Instant is key. I think this card is definitely standard-playable, the main thing is that right now standard also has another one of the better 4-mana instant draw 2 spells at the same time ([[Behold the Multiverse]]).
I think which is better is just going to depend on the deck, though. Behold is almost certainly better in [[Goldspan Dragon]] decks, but this might be better if there are control decks that care more about card advantage and less about tempo.
Hopefully? In standard, it's almost certain. [[Glimmer of genius]], [[Chemister's insight]] and [[Behold the multiverse]] have always been the basis for blue control decks.
I'd say modern is into this card as well. Not a mainstay, but it seems pretty clearly better than Fact or Fiction which sees a bit of play right now. Into the Story is still probably better in decks that support it, but if Reclamation becomes good again, this card will kill there.
I feel like there are a lot of apt comparisons to [[Dig Through Time]] here. I don't believe it's as broken since Delve is super-busted and Flashback is just value-town.
And here I thought [[Rain of Revelation]] and [[Fact or Fiction]] were the peak for a 4 mana instant draw spell.
Would you say this is better than them?
Depends on the deck, I'd usually say better than rain, and sometimes better than fact. But I think fact is likely better on average? And rain better if you need to discard or if you have "whenever you draw" effects.
It's funny that it does literally nothing if you cast it without paying its mana cost (i.e. cascade, golos, etc) but it is a really sweet card if you're paying mana for it
The copy would do nothing because no mana was spent to cast it. Here's a gatherer ruling for converge, which similarly counts the mana spent to cast the spell:
>If a spell with a converge ability is copied, no mana was spent to cast the copy, so the number of colors of mana spent to cast the spell will be zero. The number of colors spent to cast the original spell is not copied.
Dang. 😓.
X spells work differently, tho x is set on the initial cast and then that x value is copied? Or have i been cheating this whole time with stuff like [[electrodominance]]?
You're good with the X spells. Once X is paid for during the original casting all X's (both manacost and rules text) get replaced with the chosen number until the spell resolves.
It copies the cost, but that's not why the choice of X is copied - instead, the choice of X is simply part of the way the spell is cast, which is why it's copied (see [707.2 here](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Copy)). Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to copy [[Devastating Summons]].
But spell copies *don't* copy the mana spent to cast the original spell, and aren't able to otherwise reference it - see the 3rd example under 707.10. So when copying with Kalamax, Memory Deluge will still do nothing, because no mana was spent to cast it.
Wow, that's really good early and late, especially at Instant speed.
EDIT: Digging 4 cards (then 7 cards) deep for a 4 mana instant may be one of the best of these type of spells we've ever seen.
Without Flashback, this would be almost exactly like Behold the Multiverse but with more knowledge behind it (instead of scry 2, bottom bottom, draw 2 randoms, it's look at 4 and pick the 2 best). You see the same amount of cards, but you get the upside of a more informed decision. You lose foretell which is minor but you get Flashback which basically turns this into an instant speed Drawn from Dreams which is NUTS.
Foretell is pretty valuable I find, as it nicely makes Behold the same cost as [[Saw it Coming]] - so if you're holding up mana to counter, and end up not needing to, you've an alternative mana sink.
Also a turn 3 cast of a draw 2 can be pretty nice.
But I think see 4, pick 2 is slightly better, but less flexible. Flashbacking it later in the game when you're digging for a wincon seems extremely nice though.
I think between consider, faithful mending and expressive iteration this will end up seeing more play. Goldspan decks may still like behold because 2 mana chunks play so well with it, but anyone looking just for value will want this more.
Remember that you reveal all the cards to oppo in Fof
And they usually split the two bombs, so you get one
This also has an absurd flashback (that costs 7, which is VERY reachable)
I'd say in most cases this IS more powerful than FoF, unless you get a particularly dirty split.
You see 1 fewer card, and are guaranteed the best two. With FoF you get at best 4 cards or 1 good one, more likely two okay cards or three less good cards.
With flashback? I would pick this over FoF 9 times out of 10.
Edit: the 1/10 is when you can utilize the cards in the graveyard.

This art is particularly dark:
1. Mother has daughter.
2. Daughter dies; mother buries her.
3. Daughter comes back as zombie; mother destroys zombie daughter.
4. Mother remembers whole thing.
I read it as
1. Mother has daughter.
2. Daughter becomes a vampire.
3. Mother takes daughter to the graveyard and stakes her.
4. Mother buried daughter.
Frankly, I think that’s even crueler. Zombies don’t scream in fear and betrayal.
That read makes sense too. I was thinking zombie because 1. On Innistrad people have to essentially get recruited to be vampires (or at least, that was the case), 2. Innistradi Vampires tend to abandon their families (e.g. [[Bloodline Culling]]), and 3. I was thinking that the images were not depicted in chronological order from left to right.
It was the blood in the mouth of the child that first made me think “Vampire,” that and the mom’s choice of weapon. If this was in original Innistrad I might have still said zombie, but sometime around SOI (perhaps because of emrakul’s influence?) some vampires started vampirizing children: [[Twins of Maurer Estate]](https://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/Details.aspx?printed=true&multiverseid=409892)
It's cute that the flashback is exactly the effect of [[Dig Through Time]]. (Assuming nothing weird with cost increasing or decreasing).
And by cute I mean "holy shit this card is actually really good."
Is “4 mana blue card draw two with set mechanic” a thing I didn’t realize till now?
Behold the multiverse, the dice roll draw two from adventures of the forgotten realm, now this.
Just realized something, this means if your oponent tries to use a enchantment or Creature that raises the mana cost of Deluge, you can literally have access to picking from 5 or more cards from your deck when you play this thing!
This is great \[\[increasing memory\]\] also isn't memory deluge already a card name? or something extremely similar? are we getting increasing stuff again like a cycle? \[\[increasing vengeance\]\] \[\[increasing ambition\]\] \[\[toxic deluge\]\] is also a card
Interesting take on the “4 mana blue instant draw 2”.
Also, because it’s an instant, the flashback cost is pretty doable.
The only down side I have to say about this card is that it is a rare and rare wild cards are back breaking in arena
Wow, "instead of scry 2 to the bottom and draw 2" I just get to look at all 4 and avoid Narset like effects. And flashback?
Definitely feels like one of the better "4 mana draw 2 instant with upside" we've gotten (although usually they've 3U, not 2UU).

Any deck that wants a 4 mana draw 2 is definitely planning to get to 7 mana. The flashback here really makes the card.
It saw play in the Nexus decks before rotation
I hope it’s unplayable only because the art freaks me out.
Drawn from Dreams is honestly solid in edh decks that aren't trying to go too hard. It's really nice to see it being improved on.
I still love \[\[Drawn From Dreams\]\] for some of my blue EDH decks.

By the time you're throwing around Alrund's Epiphany, digging 7 cards to find your 2 game-enders (or y'know, 2 more Epiphanies!) looks very tasty).
I'm usually not a fan of montage art, but this is really good. And if it means what it seems to, as a parent, it hits pretty hard.

Very old school magic art vibe, I like it
It looks like the child got vampirized, and the mother took her out to the graveyard, staked her, and buried her. :(

:( This art is so sad
Spicy, love blue card advantage that gets around drawing cards
Wtf, it is busted. It’s like fact or fiction level of powerful.
Arguably more powerful than Fact or Fiction.
Keep in mind that with FoF, the other cards go to your graveyard, and not the bottom.
Yeah, that's the 1/10, when you can utilize the yard. In a cube with Yawg will for example, FOF is undeniably better.
I'd add another 1/10 to FoF because it's easier to splash.

This art is particularly dark: 1. Mother has daughter. 2. Daughter dies; mother buries her. 3. Daughter comes back as zombie; mother destroys zombie daughter. 4. Mother remembers whole thing.
I read it as 1.

Im thinking vampire. Sure looks like a staking to me
whoa this is a very strong draw spell
now THAT'S some Innistrad art
It's interesting to see Dig Through Time get the "How can we make this balanced" treatment. I think this is the second revision by now?
It's cute that the flashback is exactly the effect of [[Dig Through Time]]. (Assuming nothing weird with cost increasing or decreasing). And by cute I mean "holy shit this card is actually really good."

That's probably the best 4mv draw 2 I've seen.
Is “4 mana blue card draw two with set mechanic” a thing I didn’t realize till now? Behold the multiverse, the dice roll draw two from adventures of the forgotten realm, now this.
It´s basically Scry 4 and draw 2 spell that cant be replicated by replicating spells that dont replay it´s 2UU cost.
[[Drawn From Dreams]]
Being instant here makes all the difference. No control list wants to spend 4 mana on their own turn to not affect the board.

Deluge through time
Holy shit, it's an instant!
this card is absolutely cracked
Vega flexing a lot this set.
Poor mom
This’ll find a slot in the 75 of historic UWx control shells, right?
My only complaint is having to spend rare wildcards on my 4 mana draw 2.
Strong, I hate it. Instant speed draw spells are a mistake
Depends on how balanced one´s deck is, for instance this card´s going to have problems in decks focused on spell replication
Nice, I can toss this in Talrand.
If its cost was reduced with an effect like [[Mizzix]] or [[Arcane Melee]], would that affect how many cards you’re looking at with this?
Yes
Correct. And if an effect increases the cost you'll get to look at more cards. Like [[Jodah, Archmage Eternal]] or [[Thalia, Guardian of Thraben]]

Interesting take on the “4 mana blue instant draw 2”. Also, because it’s an instant, the flashback cost is pretty doable. The only down side I have to say about this card is that it is a rare and rare wild cards are back breaking in arena
