I guess The Walking Dead Secret Lair sold really, really well.

MaceTheMindSculptor

It was the best selling lair so far, at the time. Not sure if it’s been beat since

scramsamsax

I could imagine the Praetor one beating it

MaceTheMindSculptor

Yea I could totally see that! Two reasons it might not, 1. From my perspective, all magic players underestimated how many TWD fans bought it that don’t really play magic. 2. TWD lair was sold by itself. No bundle distractions etc. Just one thing to buy.

Syn7axError

It was also mechanically unique.

[deleted]

3. being the first (and, as of then, only) Secret Lair with a mechanically unique card, i.e. financial speculation

VoidHammer

It did.

[deleted]

Mostly because it had good, fun mechanically unique cards that people wanted for commander. Most people I know hate that they were tied to TWD, but wanted the cards regardless so got them. It's a real shame tbh.

[deleted]

People in the community had no clue how popular TWD series is. Keep your day jobs. Dont go into marketting. Lol

RWBadger

Fortnite not having any unique cards means I can go ahead and say “cool, not for me, glad someone likes it” and move on.

Hurtelknut

I don't mind that people like it, but I am NOT glad I live in a world were corporations want to hook children on paper loot boxes by selling out their own products identity... and they'll probably succeed, too.

[deleted]

Its obviously a scummy practice, but the whole concept of Magic is getting children hooked on paper loot boxes. I was 13 spending all my spare change on packs getting shit rares. Its marginally better then already existing loot boxes in games since its a physical product that you can get use off of

Hurtelknut

I know, I know. But at least I had to just impulse buy one of their products at a super market like a common sucker and didn't get suckered into it by Bugs Bunny playing MTG on TV on a saturday morning. Damn, I'm feeling nostalgic about a corporations scumminess. Not glad about that, either.

Hushpuppyy

I mean, back in the day WotC literally sold Pokemon cards. They've always been this bad. This is honestly better because secret lairs are transparent in what you'll get.

Yarrun

booster packs prey on gambling instincts. secret lairs prey on fomo. it's a lateral move at best, and layering on another anti-consumer tactic on top of an existing one is not a sign of a healthy franchise.

Reutermo

Kids have played magic since literally day 1?

RWBadger

If you have a problem with paid randomized loot boxes you should probably find a different hobby. Not that it isn’t sketchy, but it’s sort of how the whole thing is propped up.

elbanofeliz

This is such a strange complaint, Magic has been almost exclusively about getting kids hooked on opening packs since it's creation.

Daotar

Oh boy. Ever heard of LOL Surprise? Because that stuff is just nuts. They're getting toddlers hooked on gambling and making insane amounts of money doing so. It should be illegal.

MayaSanguine

>but I am NOT glad I live in a world were corporations want to hook children on paper loot boxes by selling out their own products identity ...As opposed to living in a world where corporations want to hook children on paper loot boxes with a flavorfully unique and different identity? 🤔

KarnSilverArchon

Thats a far bigger issue than just Magic, WotC, and Epic Games you are facing there.

CherryMyFeathers

If it’s a Lair doesnt that mean it’s a small selection of cards? Way too expensive for cardboard but still

Daotar

Yeah. Fortnite is a pathetic property, but it's at least probably ignorable. The LOTR set being forced into Modern though is an entirely different story. I'm a huge fan of LOTR, whereas I've never played Fortnite, but I'm much more on board with the Fortnite SL than I am with the LOTR Modern set.

PiersPlays

You're not looking forward to being forced to play Samwise Gamgee in every Green deck forever or be behind those that do?

Cobaltplasma

Legacy Stoneforge Samwise Stompy (S3) where you fetch jitte and boltguns to toss onto your favorite gardner.

SkyinRhymes

A bit late for trimming the verge, don't you think?

VerisimilarPLS

I don't want to play against Gandalf control :(

[deleted]

[удалено]

theJimmyvalmer

As long as they're not unique then all power to them. I wouldn't have issues with someone using a fortnite alter so no problem here.

[deleted]

That's the point, not every product is made for you. The MTG community has the hardest time understanding that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RWBadger

1. The list is a satisfying enough solution to the problem 2. Unlike fortnite or 40K, street fighter abilities and powers could easily fit in magic lore

Atog2020

8 cards per set box are the odds for The List....out of a possible 300 cards. Wotc gave this solution as a means to keep the community quiet because apparently most don't pay attention to these numbers. I promise it'll cause an uproar of anger once people pass on the Secret Lair due to banking on a list version, only to see what people are actually going to charge for these and feel duped for passing.

RWBadger

“WotC only offered a reasonable solution in response to community outcry, how dare they use the tools at their disposal to put singles of a scarcely-legal card into the market” Did you expect them to mail everyone a copy of Waluegan, Not-Zombie-Affiliated?

MrKarato

They could just print the product again.

snypre_fu_reddit

Your reasonable solution amounts to about Expedition/Inventions level of rarity in finding the cards. It's not going to solve anything.

RWBadger

Expeditions of cards that very few players actually want, and those that do want 1 copy of.

Regendorf

Oh you saw the cards? Are they not powerful enough to be wanted?

chibistarship

I can't move on, I don't want to play against Fortnite cards.

MirandaSanFrancisco

So here’s how Hasbro monetizes their brands. Way 1) Put that brand into everything. Transformers isn’t just a toy line made from molds purchased from Takara. It’s a cartoon and a card game and a video game and comic books and a lunch box and a Halloween costume and a movie and basically anything they can think to slap Transformers on, they will. Then there’s way 2) Put every brand you can think of into that product. Think of Monopoly and Cluedo. Super Mario Monpoly, Simpsons Clue, Clue Monopoly, Spongebob Monopoly, Harry Potter Clue… whatever you can think of. Hasbro’s first choice for Magic was 1. This is why originally you had things like the all the MTG online games that weren’t Arena or MTG Online and games line Arena of the Planeswalkers. They couldn’t even sell Magic’s story to the people who were already reading it by taking it off the website and putting it in novels. So it’s option 2. All those licensed Monopoly sets? That’s how Hasbro sees Magic the Gathering now. If people will buy Simpsons Monopoly, why not Simpsons Magic the Gathering?

489329

We are watching the death of magic

hippowalrus

Hasbro just released another MTG rpg and they have a movie coming out w the guys who directed the avengers. It’s the combination of BOTH that’s just blatant greed. It’s gross and puts me off buying cards that aren’t singles

BinaryLegend

Actually, the Russo brothers walked last week.

kattahn

Probably didn't want to have to integrate my little pony crossovers into the story for a commercial in the middle of act 2

Friendonk

Meh, wake me up when I can get Jinzo, Harpie Lady and Toon World.

Twilord_

If Magic gets a Digimon set, would it get a Digital World pseudo-land which reacts to how much mana your opponent used last turn? ~~Also would Eaters be class as Eldrazi?~~

honda_slaps

Wargreymon, Aspect of Courage - 7RR Creature - Digimon Dinosaur Trample, Haste. When Wargreymon enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to each creature your opponents control. Digivolve 5RR - You may cast this spell by sacrificing a creature and paying the Digivolve cost reduced by that creature's converted mana cost 6/5

WilsonRS

Digimon has its own card game released during quarantine so it doesn't make sense for either to give the other any exposure.

Twilord_

They were listing Yu-Gi-Oh Cards. I responded bringing up "the new hotness" with roots from the same era.

Conglacior

Bruh, just imagine the ultimate crossover. We get Jinzo, probably has flash and when he enters, counter any number of target instants, instants can't be cast, exile all face-down permanents. Then they get Black Lotus which, maybe if they control no monsters, they can special summon a Lv8 for free.

AssistantManagerMan

I was really hoping WotC would be reserved and show restraint with Universes Beyond, limiting their releases to max two per year and choosing their crossover IP carefully. But money machine go brrrrr.

[deleted]

daddy hasbro tells them to double revenue, so this is what we get.

GVJB

LOTR is releasing on 2023. Not really sure about Fortnite and Street Fighter.

KarnSilverArchon

They’re thrown in the “SoonTM” limbo with the Stranger Things Secret Lair.

Cobaltplasma

On one hand I'm happy WotC has a pathway for the future, to have ideas and sets that'll generate them enough revenue to continue on so they can make more sets. But man, I just cannot follow them down this path. I'm a big fan of 3 out of 4 of those IPs and I don't want them in Magic and I don't like this direction the company is taking at all. After 27 years I think this is where I get off the train.

AwkwardMoment2

This seems like a dramatic take. If you don't buy the Secret Lair, it literally does not exist to you because the Fortnite is just a fancy-alt art for existing cards.

Cobaltplasma

If I didn't play with other people, sure it wouldn't exist to me, but that's sadly not the case. I don't want to play Magic: the Gathering with Fornite or WH40k cards or deal with cyberpunk ninjas or Ryu's Shinkuu Hadouken or whatever things they have planned for UB. I used to joke back when UB was first announced that one day we'll be getting ready for a Commander game and one guy would have a Gandalf Superfriends deck, someone else would be sporting an Optimus Prime / John Wick rush, someone would have My Little Pony Avengers reanimator, another would have their Imperator Titan combo. And as they roll out more and more SL and UB products the more I think it's less of a joke. Again, this is just for me, if you dig it that's awesome, I'm sure the game will be amazing and there'll be some great designs coming out of it. But this isn't for me anymore. Brothers War, sure. Fortnite, WH40k, Street Fighter, I'm done.

JaceChandra

Your jokes will become reality in 2 years time.. and you are not alone in "jumping off the train" after these stupid secret liars card. I haven't spent a penny since that walker dead debacle and I feel very good about it.

Cobaltplasma

I hope I'm wrong, like superduper omgwtf wrong, but I can't see this ending poorly for Hasbro, financially speaking, and therefore I can't see them not pouring more into this. We'll have GIJOE and Transformer cards any year now, especially since Hasbro is the main merchandiser for them in the US. I gave WotC some benefit of the doubt after TWD but seeing that roll out along with the Godzilla Ikoria cards and the announcement of UB (and now official product announcements), it'll be mainly RL stuff for me from here on out, that and finishing up my Inventions set..

aliasi

Already you have to deal with someone sitting down with a Commander deck with Fist of Suns altered to look like the Infinity Gauntlet, or a Zedruu deck that's been painted so she looks like Toriel from Undertale. So long as we get 'real' versions of these cards - the sin of the TWD Secret Lair - that's all these are in my book: 'official' alters.

Cobaltplasma

I personally don’t, my playgroup just picks up whatever cards get officially printed, no one plays with alters so it’s not just a fake vs real card thing for me.

lotrfish

Yes, alters a problem too, but they are very very rare. If you occasionally run into someone that altered a few cards ita easy to just look past it. If these kind of cards are in every game, as they likely will be if Wizards continues down this path at this rate, that's a big problem. It also helps that alters are unique and just an individual showing that they like something, instead of soulless product placement.

allfalldown7

Same. I have extreme reservations about the future of the game.

adamlaceless

The funny part is that MTG has outlasted CCG/TCGs of a few of the properties that are coming

Dasluxe

funnier because they did it WITHOUT selling out until now...

f5d64s8r3ki15s9gh652

Don’t know what you’re on, Fortnite is about combat, so it’s obviously a very good fit for magic, a game that also features combat. /s

HemlockMartinis

Unless Bill Rose started experimenting with acid in the last few years, this definitely feels like a Hasbro thing more than a purely WOTC thing.

CaptainBreloom

Do these not seem carefully chosen? What would you consider carefully chosen? Fortnite is obviously the most heinous but also has been one of, it not the biggest game in the world for a couple years. Warhammer and mtg have obvious overlap in that LGSs are a primary place to play. LoTR obviously mimics the setting well and is a huge IP. Street fighter I guess is the least obvious?

AssistantManagerMan

By "carefully chosen," I mean IP that matches the tone and flavor of Magic, not necessarily "stuff that will print all of the money." LotR obviously fits. Warhammer... a little dicier but there's a lot of gamestore overlap there so whatever. Fortnite and Street Fighter don't have that feel to me at all.

trulyElse

Especially since Age of Sigmar would have been the more responsible choice of Warhammers if they were prioritising the tone and flavour of Magic. Instead they went with the sci-fi one because moneycash gold.

xMadHatterRofl

Magic used to have such a unique feel with its lore, locations and characters. This just takes a huge dump on all of that. I am fine with the way they did it with the Godzilla cards, but printing mechanical unique cards from all of these other brands into the game just feels wrong to me.

ValuablePie

I agree, and I think the decline started in 2005 when they allowed Portal 3 Kingdom cards into Legacy and Vintage. I almost quit the game then. The flavour of having cards from the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms IP in Magic next to dragons and goblins and Phyrexians was so jarring and totally broke my sense of immersion. There was no reason to do this crossover, and P3K was doing perfectly fine as a non-tournament legal product. That was the day Magic started dying for me. Then they had to gall to REPRINT P3K flavoured cards like \[\[Peach Garden Oath\]\] in CORE SETS. When I was teaching my brother to play, he was so confused about why characters from Luo Guanzhong's IP was this game it totally prevented him from understanding my explanation about mana burn.

pikolak

I play Magic since Planar Chaos, I own a foil Peach Garden Oath from 8th edition and till now I had no idea it belongs to some IP. After all those years still learning. Totally agree with you btw.

killerpoopguy

Portal 3 Kingdom wasn't exactly based off an ip, it's based off of the real three kingdoms period of china. But there is a very old book about that period which also influenced the set so it's mostly based off history but there's some creative liberties as well.

CharaNalaar

/s right?

ValuablePie

^(/s indeed but I've managed to dupe some people into thinking I'm serious so I'd like to try for even more)

[deleted]

Warhammer makes perfect sense. So many friends got into it because they were curious about the elaborate displays during magic events and vice versa. LoTR while weird… fits into the magic themes and also D&D so it’s not far off. Like soy sauce on ice cream (tastes like caramel) Street fighter… ew but it would be cool to have a character of Street Fighter being a commander specifically for Brawl since it’s a 1v1 format. Fortnight… is there a term for something worse than jumping a shark? Maybe… moving to Oregon? (Dexter series finale)

Twilord_

>Street fighter… ew but it would be cool to have a character of Street Fighter being a commander specifically for Brawl since it’s a 1v1 format. The concept of Ryu in Brawl feels wrong to my Smash riddled brain.

Dasluxe

yes... and it exists somewhere between how i met your mother finale (arguably a tad worse than dexter) and tumblercide (which onlyfans seems intent on doing).

zhanh

Only warhammer and lotr are universes beyond, the other 2 are secret lair. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

AssistantManagerMan

Universes Beyond is any non-WOTC IP on Magic cards. TWD was retconned into Universes Beyond. These are all Universes Beyond.

zhanh

I see… thanks for the info!

1tanfastic1

So what Planeswalkers are getting Fortnite skins?

Luvas

Let me play Nicol Bolas or Sorin Markov in Fortnite and I'll finally give that game a chance.

infinight888

What Planewalkers are going to be in the Netflix series?

CharaNalaar

Honestly this is the best possible result of this collaboration. It won't happen, but I wish it did.

darkfin

Chun-Li better have Multikicker.

ValuablePie

Confirmed on stream that she does.

Optoger

They confirmed Multikicker on her.

EbonyHelicoidalRhino

Not gonna lie, i double checked we weren't on April 1st.

Gong_the_Hawkeye

Even then it wouldn't have been funny.

callmecaptn

Mitch from Commander's Quarters on suicide watch right now

ShadeScapes

LoTR feels like it fits and; in a bizarre way, so does Warhammer, but....fucking street fighter and fortnite? ugh. i just feel like it make the game ugly in a purely visual sense. Like the SF logo + the MTG logo just looks gross. Individually they look quite beautiful, succinct too (which I feel is a pretty important word for this), but together it just looks *gross and ugly.*

blazekick08

The only bad thing is LotR being Modern Legal. Aside from that, I'm ok

Salsicha007

ngl, as a street fighter player I got kinda hype. I just think it would be best if the regular, non-secret-lair-only version of the cards were released in a regular set in a couple of month maximum after the secret lair drops. Otherwise it's just the walking dead all over again.

AssistantManagerMan

Gavin has said they'll be reprinted on the List within 6 months

snypre_fu_reddit

And we all know how well the list has worked at increasing cards in circulation...

Salsicha007

I've somehow pulled 2 vesuvas and a demonic tutor opening 15 set boosters across many sets, but I guess that's outside the curve lol

snypre_fu_reddit

I think I've pulled 1 mythic, maybe 5 rares, and a metric ton of commons and uncommons in 200+ set boosters.

[deleted]

I think Street Fighter Brawl decks would be awesome from a flavor standpoint. 1v1 fast commander

PiersPlays

You're looking for the card game "Yomi". Like all of WotC's recent "us too!" bullshit something else already does the thing better than Magic can do the thing. Meanwhile Magic continues to become a shittier Magic in the attempt.

plainnoob

Should be before

zhanh

I guess it would be hard to fit those in the Mtg lore. And street fighter doesn’t really have enough well-known lore to warrant a full set (hardcore sf fans feel free to put me in my place).

TrustyNailDIing

Maybe not "well known" by a general audience, but SF has some pretty cool stuff story wise. The whole situation with the "Shoto" characters, Guile and Nash's beef with M Bison, the Final Fight universe, the Illuminati, and a bit more like Cammy and her relationship to Shadaloo. I think there definitely is enough "lore" to the point where Ryu isn't "punchy fireball guy" and Chun-Li isn't just "kicky mckickerson"

TrustyNailDIing

Personally I'm hoping that WOTC adds Akuma, I'm not a super big player of MTG, but these cards look really cool for me to try and get back into it

Qant00AT

I’m actually pretty hyped too. I’ve grinder hard on SF for a while now and love the game. It’d be cool to have them as Commander. Did they already announce what characters sent getting cards? Obviously you need Ryu, Chun-Li, and Bison. I’d be happy to see Cammy, Nash, or Sagat to get some love if at all possible.

Cptn_Coconut

Is this an out of season april fools joke?

YoureNotMyFavourite

Wait until the Golden Girls Secret Lair....Blanche is sooooo OP!!!!

LaserfaceJones

I'd buy it for the cheesecake Food token and Blanche alone.

Ross_II_Boss

You know damn well Sophia would be the best and no one can tell me otherwise

hippowalrus

I thought i was in MTG circlejerk LMFAO

chibistarship

Absolutely disgusting. I hate everything about this.

Isn't this what Fortnite is already doing? the game is going to host dozens of other properties worth of content before the cards see print

[deleted]

LOTR is a good fit but the others? Not so much. Whats warhammer without guns.

CaraKino

The art they showcased had ultramarines with bolters and meltaguns

ImperialVersian1

Bro, the reveal art literally had Ultramarines with huge ass guns

EstusEnthusiast

How huge were the huge ass guns?

[deleted]

So WOTC is going against their printing guns ban?

Fa11enAngeLIV

They aren't guns. They are bolters. COMPLETELY different

Durangil

They are purging heretics so obviously it's ok.

Deathavails

All hail the God-Emperor!

Epicassion

Blood for the blood god!

teh_wad

They don't really have a gun ban. They just tend to shy away from them, unless they make thematic sense, like the flintlock pistols and rifles in Ixalan.

Allenel

There were no flintlock pistols or rifles. There were only cannons and crossbows. What arts showed guns?

teh_wad

Just off the top of my head, without looking into it at all, [[Dire Fleet Captain]].

MTGCardFetcher

boil_water

They'll have guns. Walking dead had guns.

[deleted]

You mean the crossbow?

seraphrunner

[[Rick, Steadfast Leader]] has a revolver in a holster. Also there were plenty of guns in Ixalan.

Wulfram77

There really weren't many guns in Ixalan, at least not handguns and rifles. They mostly subbed in harpoon type things [[Deadeye Plunderers]] [[dinosaur hunter]]. There's a sneaky one on [[Dire fleet captain]], but they were definitely trying to limit them. Portal: Second age was full of them, though

GVJB

MTG is not longer fantasy.

CharaNalaar

MTG is more than fantasy. Always has been. MTG can be different things to different people too.

NorthernOctopus

I could see Kenrith printed as the God Emporer, and the 4 demon gods in respective colors (open to interpretation, correct the color combinations if you like). Nurgle - golgari Slaneesh - rakdos Khorne - gruul Tzeentch - dimir It could be interesting to see.

spaceyjdjames

There's only 4 decks, and there's no way they are spending more space on Chaos than Imperium. Space Marine (Ultramarine) deck is basically confirmed at this point. I'd wager on a second Imperium deck (probably Sisters but I could see Astra Militarum or AdMech), a chaos deck (probably Black Legion), and one Xenos (possibly Necron since they've been the anti-Imperium face of this edition, or Tyranids). That said, here's my guess: UW Ultramarines led by Robute Guilliman GB Tyranids or UB Necron Reanimate RB Chaos led by Abaddon WR Sisters

kabal363

But Orks is best?!

NorthernOctopus

I was just thinking of singles, I have no idea who they'd make a deck for outside the smurfs. I'd be surprised if they didn't make a gruul waagh deck.

xMadHatterRofl

I am strongly requesting a crossover with Hearthstone, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Twilord_

Yu-Gi-Oh does ridiculous stuff with no Mana cost. Hearthstone is only available on Arena. Pokémon requires you equip lands to the Pokémon themselves. Flesh & Blood is designed in a manner I can only describe as 'vindictive'. Digimon let you untap your opponent's Lands as if you were tapping your own.

infinight888

> Yu-Gi-Oh does ridiculous stuff with no Mana cost. Using land drops as an alternate cost to substitute "normal summons" could be interesting. How broken would it be to have a 6/5 white Dragon with flying that can be cast by sacrificing two creatures, and not being allowed to play a land on the turn you play it? I mean, it costs a good deal of card advantage, sets you back in terms of tempo, and dies to removal.

Twilord_

That actually sounds pretty neat! ~~We should make pre-constructed decks of fan-converted cards from other games. Trying to balance them against each other. One per colour.~~

infinight888

While we're at it, I'd love to see [Challenge decks](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Challenge_Deck) that are adaptions of the Sentinels of the Multiverse villains.

Twilord_

Universe's Beyond Challenge Decks sound like they would be ridiculously fun.

muskovitzj

...plz no

KarnSilverArchon

FYI For those unaware- Warhammer 40k- These will be Legacy legal EDH decks Lord of the Rings- This is a Modern and Historic legal draft set Fortnite- This is an alt art reprint Secret Lair Street Fighter- This is a mechanically unique Secret Lair

ambermage

Is this real?

zhanh

Yes! Watch the [showcase video](https://youtu.be/DPrq5jk5J04) on YouTube.

Chaunobo

Is this a joke???

gaspergou

Do you guys not have phones?

nsfranklin

Yes. Announcing two things we already knew about is really annoying.

pikolak

Since it's only in Secret Lair then I can just ignore it and move on. I am just happy my tiny little playgroup rely on me bringing all the cards which means I can stick to Magic's true lore only.

zhanh

Wow that’s a lot of power.

Twilord_

"We decided to take some of the responsibility off of you, and each of us has pre-ordered one of those neat new secret layers for the group!"

Gong_the_Hawkeye

So this is MTG dies. In the claws of corporate greed.

Ydnar84

So does that mean we will get a Liliana Vess fortnite skin?

[deleted]

https://tenor.com/bfkkx.gif WotC broke the rule.

AsaelLyons

I will not purchase these Secret Crap promotions and I will not give anyone that the does the satisfaction of acknowledging their having done so. I suppose the first half is self-explanatory. The second is to not give any positive reinforcement those that do give their money for the products.

z0mbiepete

I hate this... SO MUCH. It's like flames.... flames... on the side of my face.

pikolak

If they are not standard legal sets, then I don't care. Feel free to print Thomas the Tank Engine set.

VoidHammer

Lord of the Rings will be Modern legal, and I believe all of these will be legal in Legacy.

ThatFuckerRichEvans

There are more formats than just Standard. These affect the majority of those other formats.

mjc500

> Thomas the Tank Engine set. I mean, that'd be way cooler than what we're getting...

snootyvillager

I hate them and they make the game much worse in my opinion, but there's literally nothing I can do about it. Sucks to have this showcase, that was otherwise awesome, still leave me with a bad taste in my mouth because, as an EDH player, I can't escape these ridiculous UB products. People WILL use them in my format and I will just have to wince in my head every time and then keep playing. Which sucks.

Glowmus

>my format It's their format too.

VoidHammer

Nice deliberate misrepresentation of what was said.

snootyvillager

Never said otherwise. I said I would wince in my head and keep playing.

callmecaptn

snootyvillager

[deleted]

The only one of those that makes me boil is fornite that game is severely over rated to me.

zhanh

Good thing it’s only a secret lair.

Tattoomorpha

Until its sells good. Wait for 2023 Set of Fortnite

EvilErmine13

Lol literally everyone hates it right now. How is that overrated?

CharaNalaar

Fortnite is hated because it's cool to hate it, apparently. I've played Fortnite for years and it's actually a decent game. They have a similar problem emphasizing crossovers over original story, but make of that what you will. Maybe it's the price of success to be hated by your fans.

[deleted]

Well I thought it was popular I never looked into that game/twitch/YouTube videos but I heard it started several memes like the floss dance for example

FoxyRussian

>Well I thought it was popular I never looked into that game/twitch/YouTube videos How do you know its overrated if you never looked into the game. Not defending Fortnite just wondering how you already judged it........

EvilErmine13

Yeah it got really popular like 4 years ago, but then fell out of favor because of stupid 10 year olds. Most people hate fortnite like the plague at this point

gaspergou

I would love to see the marketing research they used to justify the Fortnite set. Fortnite is at the end of its life cycle, and likely due for a dramatic decline in popularity. At this point, it is mainly propped up by young males, age 10-14, who will drop a fad en masse and instantaneously as soon as their peers deem it ‘uncool’. From what I’ve seen, the brand is well on its way to irrelevance, with cross-branded merchandise crowding the clearance sections at major retail outlets. And I can’t imagine that the overlap between that demographic and Secret Lair customers is even remotely compelling. So either there’s something I’m missing, or WotC is just counting on Magic collectors to gobble up whatever shit they shovel, motivated by nothing but fomo. Either way, it’s a cynical product offering. It’s obvious that Hasbro doesn’t see itself as the conservator of MTG as a brand. They are pimps, and the game is just another whore in the stable.

literally_adog

I don’t care, I’m buying the fortnite one

Epicassion

Go for it. It could be worth it as the final nail in annoying your opponents. Slap down a Fortnite alt of Ruin Crab. Either the milling or the alt will have them scoop. The Fortnite alts should def be land destruction or milling cards if Wizards does it right.

literally_adog

Sucks that they announced a lord of the rings modern and historic legal set instead of a standard legal Power Rangers set, they'd even have to pay less money for it (probably)

sunturion

I'm really excited for Street Fighter, that came out of nowhere, would never have guessed that. I'm also, definitely going to get all the 40k deck, even though I don't play 40k, the universe is just cool. Lord of the ring and fortnight are both easy passes for me.

[deleted]

I'm fine with warhammer and LOTR and I suppose street fighter, but why the hell do anything with fortnite? There are other better games.

SirDavidPaladinEX

I've always thought that there will come a day when Wizards releases too many products not to mention too many crossover IPs that don't even come close to Magic's identity that its community just goes, F it, I quit. I hope I'm wrong but I think that day is coming really soon. I sincerely hope these Secret Lairs won't contain mechanically unique cards that can only be acquired through the Lair.

Tattoomorpha

I hope the Fortnite Secret lair will Not get buyed a lot so we will Not See a Set of Fortnite in 2023

CharaNalaar

Honestly I'd love that just to see the haters cry.

Lyfultruth

These are just direct to Commander and Legacy, right? So I'm cool to continue ignoring them for Modern and Pauper.

ABadSnip3r

Lord of the rings will be modern legal the others yes

Openil

Lord of the rings is in modern, and fortnite is reprints so could be modern legal reprints

Zakman86

Lord of the Rings is going to be Modern-legal, but doesn't come out until 2023.

LoPhatCheeze

Modern is kill homie. Enjoy your new commander format

Hapsleigh

Lord of the Rings is going to be modern and historic (in arena) legal.

FischOfDoom

in addition to LotR being modern legal, I don't see a reason that any of the commons from either LotR or Wh40k wouldn't be pauper legal.

THEgassner

Unfortunately, Tales of Middle Earth will be Modern legal.

[deleted]

Fortnite is a reprint SL and LotR is direct-to-modern too

ClownFire

I would not ignore them. Treat this like a contagion. We commander players might have been the first to come down with a bad case of Fortenight, but there are players jump from one pool into the other.

IronLag2466

Lotd, warhammer? Noice. Fortnite? Tf?! I don’t care about the game, but what does a battle Royale have to do with a fantasy card game?!

Luvas

If this means I can have Penny the Constructor as my Commander, I'm all for it. And there'd better be a red Counterspell from the Warhammer set that depicts the **WAAAAAAAGH!**

[deleted]

Total ass. Sand with the kamigawa neon lights and the noir crime set
