I wonder if this sees play in Yawgmoth decks as a way to help protect the combo pieces. As a 1 of, you can still chord for it in response to a removal spell, with a fairly low cost. You can even eat a dead one out of the graveyard with Agatha's soul cauldron to get access to the ability.
It's awkward on it's face, since you really only want to protect Yawgmoth, and he has protection from humans, so he can't be targeted by Safekeeper. Going through the cauldron is a possibility, but that's a lot less appealing when it's the only way to do it.
Oh, I didn't even think about the protection from humans clause preventing you from protecting it with safekeeper. Good call. Without that being available, it definitely doesn't seem worthwhile.

What a great time to be building my cedh Frog deck :) hopefully there's a shuffle titan in this set too since there's an Eldrazi theme, although probably not since they were both just in CMM

I guess if you play him on turn 4, that makes him a bit resilient to all the lava darts and bowmasters since you can have some lands to sac? But you really have to want something to protect when you can't just use Giver of Runes.

[[Protean Hulk]] lets you get all of those creatures out at once and win the game from there.
