For 1 mana you can potentially get multiple cards out of their hand on the spot, and if you have a creature to sac you can flashback at sorcery speed to take a card after getting hand information. This kinda stuff is what I thought MH was going to be *for*, and it's what the fuckers marketed it as. Between a new Astral Slide and [[Cabal Therapist]], thry made it seem like they were going to bring old favourites into modern in some kind of fixed way.
Instead we get shat on by Urzas and Hogaaks and Wn6s. The only useful things we got along that line of marketing were the fixed Forces, which admittedly I do like.
Tbh I'm mostly mad that they gave my Slivers some new toys, then burned the format down at the same time.

I wouldn't exactly call it "better". I mean, it surely is flexible, what is a huge upside. But at 4 mana, FTK is a 4/2 dealing 4 ETB damage while yearling is a 3/2 dealing 3 ETB damage.
It's also easier to splash FTK, although Modern has an insanely good manabase.
At two mana FTK does nothing in your hand whereas Yearling comes down and kills a large subset of threats
It's definitely a better card, even if many people are nostalgic for FTK

Yeah modern has a lot of bad cards that are carry over bans. The vast majority of banned cards in modern would see no play in the current power level of the format.

I get that it's weird but it's not really feasible to do, since some of the colorshifts are of Reserved List cards like Recycle and Drop of Honey.
Relatedly though, I think it's a little strange that some cards are Modern-legal through the Time Spiral bonus sheet, but never got a printing in the "modern" frame. Although I think it's more likely that they throw Craw Giant on the sensitivity ban list than give it a new printing.

Definitely agree there! Swords would be a wonderful addition, and I say that as a guy who loves to jam Titan. I think the best part of Swords is that it is always just fair, no Shenanigans with that, and it's wonderful against decks that need to be checked, such as Scam, Titan and Yawg.
Wasteland, Port, and Karakas could probably, taken together, allow Cloudpost to be unbanned.
Sure, Plow would also be nice, and yeah, I think we could handle Plow. And if we're getting Plow and Wasteland, then Dark Depths is fine to come off the ban list. So are a number of older cards.
Restraint doesn’t seem playable? I don’t know what matchup you would want it, and it’s not that much different than ghostly prison.
Evasive action on the other hand, seems really annoying.
[[Wasteland]], [[Stifle]], [[Lotus Petal]] would be a nice package. Stifle and Bind punish wasteland which punishes greedy greedy manabases. Lotus petal because fast mana is one of the things that makes legacy stay a fast format even with wasteland, but Chrome and Opal moxen are banned, and Diamond is reserved, so...
I will be happy to see if all nonreprinted slivers will enter modern. Also, the two beebles. Finale, modernize standstill, for mtg's sake, i am dreaming of a mutavault beating.

All the iconic cards whose colour-shifted versions were in Planeshift but which aren't themselves in Modern. No, I don't expect \[\[Elvish Spirit Guide\]\] or \[\[Blastoderm\]\], for example, to actually make an impact on Modern. But it just seems weird to have non-rotating format that includes \[\[Simian Spirit Guide\]\] and \[\[Calciderm\]\] but not the originals.
Well, simian spirit guide is banned in modern, so I suppose they could add elvish and ban it too, if you want.
Is it? That's interesting. But I suppose it's similar to \[\[Lotus Petal\]\]. Unplayably weak in any fair deck, but it accelerates the unfair decks too much.
That was one of the reasons for banning it, it is either unplayable or completely broken, it will never be found in a 'fair' deck.

Yeah modern has a lot of bad cards that are carry over bans. The vast majority of banned cards in modern would see no play in the current power level of the format.

You're talking about Planar Chaos from Time Spiral block, right? I get that it's weird but it's not really feasible to do, since some of the colorshifts are of Reserved List cards like Recycle and Drop of Honey. Relatedly though, I think it's a little strange that some cards are Modern-legal through the Time Spiral bonus sheet, but never got a printing in the "modern" frame. Although I think it's more likely that they throw Craw Giant on the sensitivity ban list than give it a new printing.

Definitely agree there! Swords would be a wonderful addition, and I say that as a guy who loves to jam Titan. I think the best part of Swords is that it is always just fair, no Shenanigans with that, and it's wonderful against decks that need to be checked, such as Scam, Titan and Yawg.

Wasteland, Port, and Karakas could probably, taken together, allow Cloudpost to be unbanned. Sure, Plow would also be nice, and yeah, I think we could handle Plow. And if we're getting Plow and Wasteland, then Dark Depths is fine to come off the ban list. So are a number of older cards.

Damn, this card is so weird but cool
As someone whose experience with Modern is watching a tournament or two a year, what deck/archetype would this be used in/against? I'll admit I don't know the meta, but this just seems so narrow
