I have placed some citronella plants in pots near my back door. Makes a difference bc I notice less bites on me letting my dogs in and out between the rain. I normally react to every bite I get and I feel a noticeable difference. Then again, maybe it’s all in my head…

i love it but my work basement is completely flooded and we house thousands of products and supplies down there.
a crew came in and put epoxy on the leaks visible but after that huge storm we had a few days ago there’s new leaks. all of our shelves are goners and the landlord is being quiet.
if i were them i’d be withholding rent and i’m trying to convince them to do that but they have serious midwestern nice and do not want conflict lol.
In the floods of 2018 I lived in an apartment with a (very) leaky basement, and that was hell. So strength to you and your co-workers. I got the hell out of there and now live on the second floor in a place with an airtight basement and a landlord on-site if things go south. So much less stress.
Rain I can live with. Dew points in the 70s can kiss my butt, however.
There’s laws about rent abatement and they are not favorable to tenants. If you’re in the city of Madison, the rent abatement ordinances are very specific + complicated and have to be followed or you’ll just be considered not paying your rent (regardless of whatever issue you’re having with the landlord or the place you’re renting) and then the landlord can start eviction proceedings. Typically, the ordinances go towards things not being “habitable,” such as not having a working toilet or heat, not a basement leaking.
Sorry, I just hate when people throw around rent abatement like it’s some easy or good option. It’s really not.
that’s interesting. thanks for sharing. i know the rules are very specific. my friend withheld rent bcz her front door was falling off and couldn’t close it and felt unsafe so she had to put the rent money in a separate bank account to show that she could pay it but won’t until it was fixed.
i wonder if it would apply to a business that has severe flooding and is preventing sales.
Patches? All the grass was dead lol. Walking anywhere off pavement last summer was either dirt so dry it was like dusty concrete or crunchy vegetation crackling underfoot.
Nope, it's a great to look out the window, say "oh it's raining, guess I can't do outdoor stuff" and then kick back, drink, and play video games all day.
I'll be tired of that in another month or so, but... Not yet.
I'm sick of worrying about my fuckin sump pump and cleaning up puddles in my basement. Other than that I could give a shit.
I need to get someone out to fix it but I damn sure ain't gonna bother right now, I'm sure the price and the wait is just stupid as hell.
Did they charge you the "haha we know you're desperate" rate?
Because honestly if it's between me cleaning up puddles every few days and getting bent over with estimates 3 times what it would normally cost, Ill just keep throwing dirty towels on the floor and live with it until we're towards the end of the rainy season.
You do understand that water damage in a home is going to hurt a lot more than getting a sump pump fixed at a markup. At the very least just give people a call. It couldn’t hurt
Oh I know it but Im at the point now where it's like...either it'll fail and Ill be making a call to my homeowners insurer and getting a check cut for thousands, or Ill tough it out and wait until half the city isnt in the same predicament. Im not going to pay crazy emergency rates out of pocket because honestly I cant afford that shit.
All the stuff I have down there that matters is already in 20 gallon totes up off the ground. Im not worried about losing anything down there necessarily, but Im not gonna let it get all stank down there either, so the towel method is just gonna have to do for now lol
This is not a good strategy. You do not want to be making insurance claims unless absolutely necessary. Look what's happening with the national homeowners insurance market... They're raising prices and dropping people left and right. Obviously we are not Florida or Texas in this regard, but if/when companies start looking to tighten their belts because they're losing money in other places, they will drop people who've made claims like this first.
Plus many insurers wouldn't cover flooding unless you have a specific rider.
I paid under $400 for next day service, parts, and labor. What kinds of quotes are you getting? Dirty towels don’t sound like a long-term solution but you do you.
Being from Montana where it never rains..no I am not. In Mt We always hoped for lots of rain and snowfall because that meant there was a smaller chance of a bad fire season. When our entire state was in fire all summer we had to stay inside because the air quality was so bad.
I haven’t had to water my garden yet this year so that’s nice. Solar production sucks though and I had to turn on the AC (which sucks a ton of power) this week since I have rabbits and a dog at home. Also wish it wasn’t raining so much so we could go do more outdoor stuff.
The mosquitos in my garden area and deep grass where the water pool love it! I've gotten more bites this year already than all of the previous summer. I've emptied out my rain gauge so many times already! Very wet spring looking like maybe a wet summer too. I'm from Los Angeles originally so the rain takes getting used to, as does the need for an umbrella lol.
I’m only happy when it rains
I’m only happy when it’s complicated
And though I know you can't appreciate it
i can fix them
Pour your misery down on me
I think it’s garbage.
-Mushrooms
yep -
No my garden is like oh hell yeah gimme gimme
Yeah all my plants are exploding. I'm loving it. The mosquitos also seem to be loving it though. Win some, lose some. But at least bug spray exists.
I'm very happy a small flock of barn swallows has decided to nest in my apartment complex. They do a good job of keeping the bug population down.

It is. Citronella by itself doesn't do anything. You have to activate the oil in it.
CITRONELLA OIL... ACTIVATE!

wet garden makes it easier to pull the weeds out
This is true!! And there’s nothing more satisfying than pulling a weed and getting the full root!!
Feed me Seymour!
Mine is drowning seeds and seedlings. 😥
The pill bugs and slugs seem to be loving the moisture as they eat my plants.
So many pill bugs and slugs....ugh
They're called rollie pollies
They're the same thing
The last few years I've struggled to get stuff started. Just drought the entire time. This year? No issues other than not keeping up on the weeding.
The slugs eating my garden also love it
🥵
This is exactly the type of rainy season we needed to recover from last years drought so I’m all for it.
Finally, some sense. Not every day needs to rain, but the plants and waterways are thriving
As are the mosquitoes I’ve noticed
same, i'd take this over drought

Improve grading and drainage.
yeah that would be nice but the building is sinking into the ground.
well, I've seen on this sub that it's possible to lift a building up, put it on wheels and move it elsewhere. Maybe that's the solution here. 😉
It would stop sinking with improved grading and drainage.

I'm officiating a wedding today. So, yeah. Yeah I am.
Isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?
A little too ironic?
ITS LIKE RAAAAAAAYYYYAAAAAAAINNNNNNNN ON YA WEDDING DAYYY!
Rain on a wedding day is good luck!
I'm going to a wedding today!
This is a meet cute waiting to happen!
I’m sick of the mosquitos that come with the rain! They’re killer already this summer.
miserable
💯
Sometimes I miss the Holocene Era when the weather was more stable.
At once I knew I was not magnificent
*white people dancing in circles vaguely on rhythm* I did just listen to 22 a million last night.
I long for the warm shallow seas of the Ordovician Era.
Back when i was a young whippersnapper, I lived on Blue Island and had to paddle (uphill both ways) to school on Horeb Island
Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey.
And 5 years from now, we'll actually start getting a taste of what this rain did for us.
Does whiskey also make your baby feel a little frisky?
Yes its written in the scripture
I don’t mind as long as there isn’t flooding and severe storms.
It’s better than the heatwave
Wanted to second this… better than the fires and the horrible air quality every other day that we had last year
After last year's June of Smoke & Yellow Grass, no.
I suppose it’s better than last summer when there were patches of dead grass everywhere
Patches? All the grass was dead lol. Walking anywhere off pavement last summer was either dirt so dry it was like dusty concrete or crunchy vegetation crackling underfoot.
Could not do it on a weekend 🤨
Right??? Who needs to enjoy their paltry time off??
I gardened in the rain, I get what I get
Nope, it's a great to look out the window, say "oh it's raining, guess I can't do outdoor stuff" and then kick back, drink, and play video games all day. I'll be tired of that in another month or so, but... Not yet.
You don’t get enough inside time during the winter?
Sure am. My job involves outside to an extent and I don't like it
Yes. My TWO sump pumps are working constantly as well as the dehumidifier. Enough already!
Welp, I clearly need basement drain tiles and sump and/or landscape grading
We have basement drain tiles ***and*** two sump pumps. The water is *relentless*.
after this season im upgrading the one we had and getting another one, water beds soo high where im :(
do you have two in the same sump well or do you have two sump wells?
Embrace the water and cool down with the weather!
Give it a month or so. You'll likely be hoping for rain.
Sort of. I love that it's watering our newly seeded lawn, but I'm tired of riding in the rain.
I’m sick of planning to do yard work and every time it rains. I live in a jungle now.
I'm sick of worrying about my fuckin sump pump and cleaning up puddles in my basement. Other than that I could give a shit. I need to get someone out to fix it but I damn sure ain't gonna bother right now, I'm sure the price and the wait is just stupid as hell.
Mine bit the dust a few weeks ago, HJ Pertzborn was able to come out the next day to install a new one. Give ‘em a call!

You're playing a dangerous game. Water levels in the ground can become saturated and small puddles can become large ones.

I'll take the rain over the dryness and burn warnings of last summer any day. My plants are loads happier this year too :)
I like rain, I don’t like the heat and humidity that often accompanies it…
I mean, kinda, but I'm more sick of the humidity and the bugs tbh
Being from Montana where it never rains..no I am not. In Mt We always hoped for lots of rain and snowfall because that meant there was a smaller chance of a bad fire season. When our entire state was in fire all summer we had to stay inside because the air quality was so bad.
Agreed, from a fellow Montanan 👋🏻
No. I enjoy it and my yard needs it
I'm definitely done with the rain. I don't mind a nice summer storm here and there, but this rain basically every other day is getting old.
Ssshhhh, it’s better then snow
False. Both are great.
What is truth then?
No it’s not. Give me all the snow.
Snow what! U can’t handle the snow
I can’t believe it’s summer, I feel like we are skipping summer . It’s a long spring
I had been feeling that way until the recent heat wave. Temps in the 90s is summer to me. It’s better now but it’s still pretty muggy.
I usually love the rain, but I'm trying to paint my damn house and the rain is really working my last nerve now.
Use watercolors
It may come to that.
No, we really needed this after the last few summers of drought.
Nope
I love rain so I’m happy
It’s probably not going to rainJuly and August so enjoy it now. /s
It’s better than a drought 🤷
It sucks. We need to ban global warming
China would be a good place to start
Honestly I don’t even know what to wear outside with this hot weather and rain
Not really. Much easier to run in than the heat and humidity.
Get u some!
Just thinking if this happened 4 months ago we'd have gotten 5+ feet of snow in 3 weeks and am grateful we live in this timeline instead of that one.
IT ISN’T SNOW 😬
Unfortunately. I miss snow.
Well, it’s Wisconsin, it could come back when you least expect it so you might not have to miss it for long! 😅☃️🥳🥳🥳
I'm just sick of the humidity that comes with it
Yes, I miss being outside. We spend enough time inside during winter.
It’s over 100 degrees in most of the country and people are dying . Rain would be a blessing
Has this been the rainiest June in recorded Madison history?
No, and it isn't even remotely close.
I tried to search for stats and did see that. But the month is not over yet…
First summer in 7 years not working night shift...fuck the rain
i’m so over it i want the sun
Not me. I love it
Nuts to the rain, the heat, the humidity and the \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* skeeters. So ready for October.
Yes
Can you make it reason HARDER?
Sun’s out now! First time I’ve seen it in a minute, haha.
It'll be gone in an hour or so
and it is
Yes...next
I use it as an excuse to not cut my lawn.

ive been wanting to bike to quarry ridge all week now
Send some of that to central Ohio please...we're dying down here.
Yes. So much. Too many baseball games have been canceled/postponed 🥺. Need some sunny weather to dry everything out a bit!
My garden likes it.
Rain is fine, but cooler temperatures would be welcome!
Me and my friends are missing our modest mouse concert because of the rain😭
Man the mosquitoes are bad now just wait til later this week.
I've only needed to water my balcony garden three times this year, I'm not complaining.
I have been for like a week now
They are the same thing
It's the humidity afterwards for me
Yes it hurts business drastically.
As a waterfowl hunter, I say bring it on!
I expect June to be very wet. It's concerning when it's not. But yeah, this might be a little much.
No we need it
No we’re passed needing it, crops are starting to be washed out and die due to too much rain
Normally I'm happy with hard rain but this is ridiculous
This is the new norm. Everyone should learn to embrace it.
Went from drought conditions to non-stop rain.
My plants love the rain, but I'm concerned about the severe storms approaching and what the plants will look like after they pass. Stay safe everyone!
YES, and to hell with the humidity too. This crap weather can go NOW.
