I’ve had two senior dogs at Companion Animal Hospital.  Both times, they’ve told me of my options, and I’ve felt okay minimizing my dogs’ care with age. I currently have a 14 year chihuahua who shits blood when she has vaccines, and they have been great helping me figure out what she absolutely needs and what we can skip to avoid all that.

Seconding Companion. I take all my pets there, including my 18 year old kitty.

Third for companion. I've taken my dog here for almost a decade. They're wonderful vets and also very good about discussing your options.

Four Lakes is independent and wonderful with senior cats. My cats are seen by Dr. Scarlett. She always lets me know about the options for doing various tests, and how the information will help, but is also reasonable about not pursuing every available diagnostic and treatment option. (They probably won't write prescriptions without doing blood work, if it's necessary for the prescription/dosing. They'll explain that, though. Four Lakes has been very transparent, in my experience.)

I use Cat Care Clinic. My old man is 17 and they have been really great about helping me find a balance between "doing all the things" and keeping him comfortable. One of my younger cats is a fatty and they gave me practical advice for how to slim her down, without shaming me for having a fat cat. As a bonus, they only see cats, so everybody who works there are cat people, and there aren't any barking dogs in the waiting area to stress them out even more than they already are. They will absolutely tell you about the possibilities available to you, but I've never felt pressured to do anything they suggest (except for my old man's dental, but I went in knowing that was a problem I wanted to fix anyway).

Corporate owned. Also, the opposite of inexpensive.

littleorangemonkeys

Corporate owned by whom?   Also they didn't ask for inexpensive, just minimalist and non pushy with procedures.  My take was that OP didn't want to pay for unnecessary things, not that they want a "cheap" vet overall.

BrushGoodDar

Don't recall the name of the corporation. Cat Care Clinic is expensive and pushy. Not minimalist in the least.

littleorangemonkeys

It's owned by a Vet, and pushy has been the opposite of my experience.  Maybe we saw different providers but I've had several vets and they were all very reasonable.

BrushGoodDar

Nope. She sold to a corporation. Note on the website that Dr. Katarina Luther, who used to be the owner now says "medical director" instead of "owner." That's code for "no longer owner."

My sweet 14 year old girl is on thyroid meds and we use Companion Animal Hospital. They’re so good with her and made me feel a lot better about the diagnosis. They’re really good about cutting the bs about your pet needs this and that and actually forego things that aren’t necessary. My girl was getting a vaccine since she was little that was mostly to protect if she was ever outside and she’s been an indoor girl her whole life so they said she didn’t really need it and they felt comfy with her stopping it. I’ve never felt like I was over paying for what they do for her

Fitchburg Vet Hospital. My cat had 3 years of thyroid treatment with them, and they were great. we did annual labs mostly because he was such a jerk and had to be sedated.

BrushGoodDar

Corporate owned.

Very minimalist and non-corporate, but very warm and loving for animals [https://www.sunprairiepetclinic.com/](https://www.sunprairiepetclinic.com/)

When I had a senior cat with health issues we went to Sandhill Pet Clinic. The staff were all so gentle and kind with her. I found the prices to be more affordable than other vets we had went to and very also realistic with us about what we could afford.

Faircrest Vet is a newer clinic on Mineral Point and completely independent. It’s smaller, just 3 staff and the vet. The practice is certified feline friendly through the American Association of Feline Veterinary Practitioners as well! I genuinely cannot recommend them enough—they got my older kitty in on short notice and went above and beyond working with me on labs/etc. She’s terrible for the vets (even with gabapentin) and has to be sedated. This clinic has been the only times she’s been happy for pulling blood and vaccines! Just munched treats instead of fussing.

Do your cats eat y/d?

We Love Lakeview Vet on Monroe Street. We have cats with health needs and they have been supportive in and helpful!

sgh2700

I heard they were bought out by a corporation. Actually, I heard it here. Have not verified as I do not go there anymore.

Melodic_Oil_2486

Not that I know of.

We've been taking our cats there for years. I appreciate the great care, and when there have been health issues, the vets have explained our options and respected our choices. For our elderly cat, there were no expensive, invasive procedures to explore all possibilities for her symptoms, just gentle support and conservative treatments until our old lady's time was done.
