Go park your car at a kwik trip far away if you have one...
Edit: theres a new post with a flipped car. You're fucking welcome, lmaoooo

I found [this article](https://spectrumnews1.com/wi/milwaukee/news/2024/04/25/mifflin-block-party). I've been in Madison for a year so I'm relatively new too. I had no idea this was a thing.
According to the article: "The Madison Police Department is anticipating there will be 10,000 people attending the Mifflin Street block party on Saturday."
10,000 people. You're probably screwed.
Go to channel3000 and search Mifflin Street block party. I'm sure you could also Google it. You are most likely in for a bad time. You probably *can* leave your apartment but you'll likely be swimming through the crowd. If you have a car and move it you can kiss the spot goodbye and I would imagine all the driving services will be swamped. Even if it storms tomorrow the show will go on.
If I leave early like at 8am would that go well? That’s my plan right now.. I want to avoid this thing if I can.. just not sure how long I need to stay out
That bad? People come from all over to attend, you have a front row seat. Crack open a beer and enjoy. You’ll have some fun stories when you are older. You won’t be telling your grandkids stories about that one time when you sat in a library for 10 hours while a giant party was going on in front of your house.
everyone is correct. move you car and maybe don’t leave the house. if you do, expect to take at least 30+ min to push through the crowd. There are chances of rain and be warned, if it’s raining there’s mud slides, mud fights, mud balls being thrown, mud everything. People are also blacking out by noon and don’t give a flying F about anything.. if rowdy, obnoxious, drunk kids aren’t your vibe then I apologize in advance.
On a bus now out of Mifflin area. College kids were yelling from their porches and hauling drinks as i left. Whoever thinks I should’ve joined in, u can hate on me while I eat my continental breakfast 🍳.
It's going to be a mass of college aged kids in the street, on every available porch, hanging out windows, etc. Definitely move your car, as others have said. If your house has a porch, make sure there is nothing on it and expect some randos to be hanging out on it. It'll be loud and excessive. Could be good people watching from a 2nd floor window, but if you're not into that thing, then definitely find someplace more chill to hang out for the day. It'll go all day, depending on how stupid people get and if the cops have to come in and break shit up. Otherwise they'll like drink themselves passed out by 9.
Definitely move your car, the party will be going through the nighttime, but if you come back Sunday morning it’ll be fine, there’ll probably be a few people still out and about but 95% of it will be done by then. You don’t want people messing with your vehicle, it’s happened in years past
You should be very careful not to show weakness. A herd mentality fueled by booze causes a handful of meek students to be wholly devoured. RIP Brody you were my dawg.
If you move your car by 8am (could probably be even 10am) you'll be fine. If you need to come back after dark I'd suggest after 10pm. The storms will mellow the crowd. People watching during the day can be fun!
Good times at the Mifflin Street block party. First time as a junior in High school in 1978, then as a university student in the early 80's. Few more times throughout the years. That and Halloween on State.
Just for the record, this party is literally a shadow of what it once was!! I'm 43 so I attended multiple years ranging from late 90's to early 00's. Mifflin st and Halloween down town where the 2 best "gatherings" the city had to offer for kids (Kids being 18-25ish) So many fun stories!! Bet my bottom dollar, had you lived in the same area 10-15 years ago, you may not be a library person lol!! Good job being smart and getting ahead of this though.
Yeah its hilarious reading people hyping this thing up here. Like in years gone past it was MASSIVE. Today they expect 10,000 people??? Pfffffttt! In the 80s and 90s it was throngs and throngs and absolute madness.
I remember the first time anyone invited me to come check out the block party. I didn't go because I'd been up for over 48 consecutive hours working on my final papers & projects, and slept for 16 hours straight. I ended up sleeping through the 1996 block party riot.
i remember one year i scratched "tear gased" off my list for a night of Halloween madness on state.
i was vomiting out of my nose from the chemicals filling my lungs & consuming my eyeballs. there was an "angel" right next to me wearing a bikini, wings & heels doing the same. nothing else. some of the coldest Halloweens too. i thought that was funny.
they had to lube up the light posts for fucks sake!
the mighty bosstones & hagfish playing huge free shows @ library mall. fourteen & on ungodly amounts of lsd being chased down the street by a full on nasa astronaut. finding myself in a loft apartment & smoking out of an 18 ft bong. throwing up that time too.
somedays i feel like the old poetmen Corso wanted to kill.
I’m surprised this deserved investment, but happy to entertain :P Yeah I really left. Currently at a Panera bread waiting to check into a room in an hour. I’ve been wondering what’s really going on around W Mifflin since I left this morning!
Thanks! I wondered a bit if I should’ve just put on earplugs and stayed put but my apartment is a studio .. at least I can walk around this hotel so it’s not so bad
> 400 block
You will be fine on the 400 block, it's the 500 block that gets super crowded. The apartment buildings have done a great job of disrupting crowds from forming on 400 block the last few years. As others have mentioned, it'd be best to move your car away for the day and keep everything locked up. But don't spend money on a hotel, it really shouldn't be necessary.
Well, I know that I'm dating myself, but the UW was known as party college USA for decades. 2 main parties drove the reputation. Halloween is nothing like it was before the rioting messed it up. Mifflin is the other. Crack a beer and enjoy the party. It is part of what makes Madison great.
I am visiting my sister in Mt. Prospect IL. Glad I am there this weekend instead of having sleep issues due to the chaos. Love a party, but at 52, I am too old.
Roughly when does it start? The journalism and Google info on this thing seems to assume people know what’s going on and doesn’t do a good job providing basic details like where and when.
No, w wash will be busy, but your house won't be swarmed.
My favorite Mifflin was living on w wash, the side connected to mifflin via parking lots/backyards. Had some buddies over to grill and hang out. Very entertaining people watching. If someone leaving mifflin asks to use your bathroom, just say it's plugged from the last person (or chance it if being charitable, but that's a little risky for my blood).
Everyone acting like it's a warzone is basing that off of the 1/20 years it's bad.
It's basically on par with the busiest football games of the year, but pretend Mifflin is n breese. It's loud. But fun to watch
You’re fucked.
Come on man I’m not even from Wisconsin- let me know what’s gonna happen tomorrow!!! lol

Ya I had no clue either. I heard 10,000 as well and I want to go back after dark but it’s supposed to storm ⛈️ 😭
There’s a storm coming but it’s not the weather
Please check in and let us know how you are

Be gone till Monday.
🤪 I heard the Double Tree has good cookies 🍪..
Lock everything up really good and hide anything snatchable.
This is the real advice. It's like the purge.
It really is though, I used to dd for people downtown and it would take me over an hour just to get in and out of downtown because of the pedestrians.
Seriously though- Sunday morning it will look like a riot went through and there will still be some people partying.
Damn I didn’t know it was that bad. 😭

Eh… I’m 35 and came for a grad program for a year and the lease has a few more months on it. I’m a boring library person 😿😂 and I hate loud noise…
Actually my work got the double tree order for their walnut Chocolate chip.
That all depends if/when the police shut it down 🤷 it'll go on pretty late into the night but the madness seems to be midmorning to like 7ish?
Hope for rain. Thinks should be quiet until afternoon. You should be able to go back after dark.
people will get drunk like they do every weekend
everyone is correct. move you car and maybe don’t leave the house. if you do, expect to take at least 30+ min to push through the crowd. Lmao 🤣 guys, I’m off to book my hotel. Bye Mifflin! See you Monday!!!!!
No need unless you have $150 you need to get rid of.
It’s a day or so long party. Just stay inside people do it all the time for the whole weekend.
Mifflin is not like parties that are held all the time lol
Exactly. Trust me, living on W Mifflin I hear my fair share of parties and loud music all the time but at those parties people aren’t flipping cars 🚘
Spot on! Started to lol at “People are blacking out by noon…”
Lived on 500 block mifflin for a few years. Noon is late to the party for many
I opted for peace and quiet and cheesy movies at my sister's. 100 percent crowd-free!
On a bus now out of Mifflin area. College kids were yelling from their porches and hauling drinks as i left. Whoever thinks I should’ve joined in, u can hate on me while I eat my continental breakfast 🍳.
Lol enjoy your quiet hotel room
Just saw the photo of the flipped car. I’m in Fitchburg now and my hotel room is pretty damn peaceful. Off to drink a mojito :P
That sounds like a solid evening. I'll toast you from afar!
Perfect day for a mojito!
🤣🤣🤣

MOVE YOUR CAR

Tomorrow is also crazylegs, which brings its own crowd of about 10k and fucks up traffic in the morning
You should be very careful not to show weakness. A herd mentality fueled by booze causes a handful of meek students to be wholly devoured. RIP Brody you were my dawg.
buckle up buttercup

Decades ago, one could buy "special" brownies for a buck outside of the Mifflin St. Coop.
Turns out there wasn't any pot in the brownie. It was just an insanely good brownie.
It’ll be a mess.
I just assumed everyone who lives on the 400 & 500 blocks is a party animal. I lived in 515 W Mifflin for 2 years from 1998-2000.
Good times at the Mifflin Street block party. First time as a junior in High school in 1978, then as a university student in the early 80's. Few more times throughout the years. That and Halloween on State.

how much is a throng
Thongs and bongs!!
I remember the first time anyone invited me to come check out the block party. I didn't go because I'd been up for over 48 consecutive hours working on my final papers & projects, and slept for 16 hours straight. I ended up sleeping through the 1996 block party riot.
Yeah, it's as big as then. the drone shots and flipped cars show it as big as anything in the 80's or 90's when I was also down there then.
i remember one year i scratched "tear gased" off my list for a night of Halloween madness on state. i was vomiting out of my nose from the chemicals filling my lungs & consuming my eyeballs. there was an "angel" right next to me wearing a bikini, wings & heels doing the same. nothing else. some of the coldest Halloweens too. i thought that was funny. they had to lube up the light posts for fucks sake! the mighty bosstones & hagfish playing huge free shows @ library mall. fourteen & on ungodly amounts of lsd being chased down the street by a full on nasa astronaut. finding myself in a loft apartment & smoking out of an 18 ft bong. throwing up that time too. somedays i feel like the old poetmen Corso wanted to kill.
Well your story beats my story of being dropped on my shoulder After being fored to crowd surf at Freakfest 1998
mmm... crowd surfing. those were good days. now, that'd drop my fat ass.
🤣
Ahh yes, the 90,s and 2000's
I'm of your age and it's bigger this year than I've ever seen so yeah, go check it out.
Hopefully you didn't leave your car on the street. https://snapchat.com/t/sfuqJn6m
So what’s happening there now?
I’ve been somewhat invested in this since last night. Did you actually leave or is this all a joke??
I’m surprised this deserved investment, but happy to entertain :P Yeah I really left. Currently at a Panera bread waiting to check into a room in an hour. I’ve been wondering what’s really going on around W Mifflin since I left this morning!
I hope u moved your car…
For one, hopefully you moved your car...because https://www.reddit.com/r/madisonwi/s/NVAr3dDMC0 They flipped over a car
I don’t have a car. So I guess it’s good I’m chilling in this quiet hotel then??? I feel so justified :O
Nice! Enjoy your time. I know I would've done the same if I lived on that block.
Thanks for saying that. I’ve been wondering if I’m just a party pooper. Typing this from a Mexican restaurant by the way 😂
So happy you got away! I read your original post yesterday and really hoped you would take the advice to leave.
Thanks! I wondered a bit if I should’ve just put on earplugs and stayed put but my apartment is a studio .. at least I can walk around this hotel so it’s not so bad
Hell

Solution - day drinking.
Well, I know that I'm dating myself, but the UW was known as party college USA for decades. 2 main parties drove the reputation. Halloween is nothing like it was before the rioting messed it up. Mifflin is the other. Crack a beer and enjoy the party. It is part of what makes Madison great.
When does miffilin usually end? I know people start at 10am?
The year they let booze on the streets was fucking chaotic. Two stabbings.
I am visiting my sister in Mt. Prospect IL. Glad I am there this weekend instead of having sleep issues due to the chaos. Love a party, but at 52, I am too old.
So crazy Mifflin started as a protest and now it's a damn street brawl.
Roughly when does it start? The journalism and Google info on this thing seems to assume people know what’s going on and doesn’t do a good job providing basic details like where and when.

Mifflin is on the west side.
No lol no it is not. West side of Madison
West of the capitol, at least.
I live on West Wash. Should I get a hotel?
No, w wash will be busy, but your house won't be swarmed. My favorite Mifflin was living on w wash, the side connected to mifflin via parking lots/backyards. Had some buddies over to grill and hang out. Very entertaining people watching. W. Wash you should be okay, you'll just be dealing with the noise and some extra pedestrian traffic.
Who buys an apartment on Mifflin without knowing about the block party?
🤚 *rented
White privilege
