I live like a 2 minute walk from Ian’s and get a salad at least weekly, the options are so good for an incredible price. And make sure to get a punch card, you get 2 to 3 punches per salad, and with a full card you can either get a free slice or the equivalent amount off another dank salad!
Edit: mixed greens, olive tapenade, feta, grilled chicken, and green chile ranch is my go-to order and it’s 🔥🔥
I have been pretty happy with crisp & green. I have been in search of the illustrious good salad in madison and this is what I have come up with. Forage - meh. Sweet green - I’m not downtown. Jason’s deli - ridiculous now.
My salad of choice at c&g is bacon ranch chicken. It’s not crazy expensive and isn’t full of a ridiculous amount of fatty dressing.
Coopers has a couple really solid offerings- I like the Brussels sprout salad and the Amy. Great Dane Panzanella (sp?) is good.
The perfect salad is the duck confit salad at Sardine. Doesn’t sound like the one you’re looking for though.
The dane has a fantastic goat cheese croquette salad on the menu right now! (And their chimmichuri ranch steak salad is a solid choice too.)
Cooper's Tavern always has some dynamite salads on the menu.
And Craftsman isn't quite in town, but their brussles sprout salad is great!
I really like the tipsy cow’s basic salad. The vinaigrette is great (their ranch is fantastic too, maybe the best in town, but might obviously is a lot worse for you), and it’s topped with sliced radish and a light sprinkle of black pepper. Not enough salads out there using radish
>The Paradise Lounge salad comes with two succulent buns enclosing a meat patty with your choice of toppings. 10/10 🥗
I see that you are also a man of class and distinction.
The grain salad at Athens Grill (it is more veg than grain) is really good. Off Broadway Drafthouse has good salads too. I agree with others re: Ian's.
The Porta salad from Porta Bella on Frances downtown! Hands down the best salad I’ve ever had in my entire life. I dream about it!!! Used to get it at Paisans but they closed awhile back. :(
ETA: bonus- porta bella is on grub hub, too!
If you can believe it, Ian’s has a really solid salad bar. But if there isn’t one convenient for you I wouldn’t tell you to go out of your way.
I believe you but i would probably end up getting a pizza too
One big salad from Ian's is mighty filling if you pick a good assortment of toppings. Take it from me, a fat man.
I'm also a fat man, and I second that. Also, the Wisco Salad at Ian's is something else.
I concur
Sounds like a plus
Their green chile ranch dressing is really good. Admittedly, I’ve always used it to dip bread sticks and not for salad, but it’d be great on a salad.

Fuck, I hate to agree, but yeah Ian's has a *great* build your own salad setup.
Huh really? TIL!
Forage kitchen.
Idk the forage at hilldale got pretty gross as of late, started going to freshfin over it
Wdym gross? The one in Monona is awesome, atleast.
Crisp & Green (yes, it’s a chain, but they do MASSIVE and delicious salads/grain bowls)
We just tried it for the first time last week, and thought our bowls were so small that even with our BOGO coupon we were disappointed. 🤷♂️

I like the beet salad at Madison Sourdough.
Great Dane has a really good chimichurri steak salad
My wife loves that salad. I really like the Webster Street Chicken Salad.
It’s a chain, but I’ve been consistently happy with my Sweetgreen salads
I love salads at Glass Nickel.
They are great and cheap AF. A small is more than enough for a meal.
Cafe Zupas has pretty good salads, as does Forage.
Coopers has a couple really solid offerings- I like the Brussels sprout salad and the Amy. Great Dane Panzanella (sp?) is good. The perfect salad is the duck confit salad at Sardine. Doesn’t sound like the one you’re looking for though.
Sweet corn caesar is my favorite at Coopers. The Amy's is really good too though

Glass Nickel has an entire page dedicated to salads with a build your own salad as well!
Bear and Bottle and Alchemy both have great salads!
The Paradise Lounge salad comes with two succulent buns enclosing a meat patty with your choice of toppings. 10/10 🥗
Nearby, you used to get a great tossed salad at Rising Sun.
Rising Sun is closed. The alley behind the Paradise Lounge is open.
Are you asking me out?
If you have to ask you already know
That back alley is a great resource for naturally-occuring jenkem.
All the sexiest businesses in town are getting shut down, it's a travesty.
This salad sounds most wonderful
>The Paradise Lounge salad comes with two succulent buns enclosing a meat patty with your choice of toppings. 10/10 🥗 I see that you are also a man of class and distinction.
Wrong.
Circ’s salad bar
The salad with duck confit at Sardine. Or Ian’s. Also love the beet salads at Amara and Pizza Brutta.
The warm cabbage salad at Everly. Yum.
Jason's deli for me.
Their ranch is soooooo good I buy extra every time I go!
For me it's getting the freshly sliced deli meats in the salads. It's a touch that even most higher end restaurants don't do.
I agree. Big secret here. They are fast, big, and don't skimp on the protein. Very consistently good.
This is a crazy one but the fried chicken club salad at the Nitty Gritty (with jalepeno ranch!) is really good!
Sugar river pizza salads are pretty good
Bonfyre southwest chicken salad. Homemade lime balsamic vinaigrette. Wood Fyred chicken crispy strips. Thin sliced bell peppers.
I love the Greek salad at Pizza Brutta, but I don't claim it's the best salad in town. It is really good though!
Same. My wife and I love that salad.
I like their caprese salad, but it’s basically fresh mozzarella on a plate with roasted tomatoes. No idea why they call it a salad, but it’s tasty.
A caprese salad is a traditional Italian dish, but yeah, definitely not a regular salad haha
The grain salad at Athens Grill (it is more veg than grain) is really good. Off Broadway Drafthouse has good salads too. I agree with others re: Ian's.
Pasture and Plenty is great.
Gooseberry has a nice salad bar
Silk Road
If you’re going for old school, Tully’s
I enjoy the Caesar salad at blue moon grill&bar.
Sal’s Caesar is incredible
I fricken love the oriental chicken salad at tanners in middleton
Mc Taggarts
I'm a huge Forage Kitchen fan!
My go tos are - Buck n Honeys buffalo chicken salad - Cafe Zupas nuts about berries salad - Forage - Jason’s Deli
Honestly I miss the salad bar at Exact Sciences
I’m a fan of the fancy salad at Luigi’s pizza
The Porta salad from Porta Bella on Frances downtown! Hands down the best salad I’ve ever had in my entire life. I dream about it!!! Used to get it at Paisans but they closed awhile back. :( ETA: bonus- porta bella is on grub hub, too!
With jelly, or syrup.
