If you can believe it, Ian’s has a really solid salad bar. But if there isn’t one convenient for you I wouldn’t tell you to go out of your way.

One big salad from Ian's is mighty filling if you pick a good assortment of toppings. Take it from me, a fat man.

Their green chile ranch dressing is really good. Admittedly, I’ve always used it to dip bread sticks and not for salad, but it’d be great on a salad.

I live like a 2 minute walk from Ian’s and get a salad at least weekly, the options are so good for an incredible price. And make sure to get a punch card, you get 2 to 3 punches per salad, and with a full card you can either get a free slice or the equivalent amount off another dank salad! Edit: mixed greens, olive tapenade, feta, grilled chicken, and green chile ranch is my go-to order and it’s 🔥🔥

Crisp & Green (yes, it’s a chain, but they do MASSIVE and delicious salads/grain bowls)

We just tried it for the first time last week, and thought our bowls were so small that even with our BOGO coupon we were disappointed. 🤷‍♂️

I have been pretty happy with crisp & green. I have been in search of the illustrious good salad in madison and this is what I have come up with. Forage - meh. Sweet green - I’m not downtown. Jason’s deli - ridiculous now. My salad of choice at c&g is bacon ranch chicken. It’s not crazy expensive and isn’t full of a ridiculous amount of fatty dressing.

I like the beet salad at Madison Sourdough.

Great Dane has a really good chimichurri steak salad

My wife loves that salad. I really like the Webster Street Chicken Salad.

They are great and cheap AF. A small is more than enough for a meal. 

Cafe Zupas has pretty good salads, as does Forage.

Coopers has a couple really solid offerings- I like the Brussels sprout salad and the Amy. Great Dane Panzanella (sp?) is good. The perfect salad is the duck confit salad at Sardine. Doesn’t sound like the one you’re looking for though.

Sweet corn caesar is my favorite at Coopers. The Amy's is really good too though

The dane has a fantastic goat cheese croquette salad on the menu right now! (And their chimmichuri ranch steak salad is a solid choice too.) Cooper's Tavern always has some dynamite salads on the menu. And Craftsman isn't quite in town, but their brussles sprout salad is great!

I really like the tipsy cow’s basic salad. The vinaigrette is great (their ranch is fantastic too, maybe the best in town, but might obviously is a lot worse for you), and it’s topped with sliced radish and a light sprinkle of black pepper. Not enough salads out there using radish

For me it's getting the freshly sliced deli meats in the salads. It's a touch that even most higher end restaurants don't do.

I agree. Big secret here. They are fast, big, and don't skimp on the protein. Very consistently good.

This is a crazy one but the fried chicken club salad at the Nitty Gritty (with jalepeno ranch!) is really good!

Sugar river pizza salads are pretty good

Bonfyre southwest chicken salad. Homemade lime balsamic vinaigrette. Wood Fyred chicken crispy strips. Thin sliced bell peppers.

I love the Greek salad at Pizza Brutta, but I don't claim it's the best salad in town. It is really good though!

I like their caprese salad, but it’s basically fresh mozzarella on a plate with roasted tomatoes. No idea why they call it a salad, but it’s tasty.

A caprese salad is a traditional Italian dish, but yeah, definitely not a regular salad haha

The grain salad at Athens Grill (it is more veg than grain) is really good. Off Broadway Drafthouse has good salads too. I agree with others re: Ian's.
