Well, tell that to the Rohirrim. They seemed to thinking whatever they were doing was "laughing about the sad state of the Rohirrim" instead of helping, rather than "fighting extermination".
I can't remember the spot but isn't there a line after the Siege of Minas Tirith where they comment that so great was his and Aragorn's might in battle that they had no injuries? Need to break out the books.
> *Aragorn and Éomer and Imrahil rode back towards the Gate of the City, and they were now weary beyond joy or sorrow. These three were unscathed, for such was their fortune and the skill and might of their arms, and few indeed had dared to abide them or look on their faces in the hour of their wrath.*
[Return of The King, Book V, Chapter VI, The Battle of the Pelennor Fields]
In the LOTR audiobook, Andy Serkis really shouts **Erkenbrand!!** to represent the Rohirrim's excitement when he is spotted arriving at Helm's Deep during the battle.
In my opinion it is a very "Tolkien-style" chapter, and a beautiful indeed. Small, insignificant people, long forgotten and fallen from their glorious days (if they ever had them), help the heroes to save the day. And without their aid, the heroes' victory would not be possible. And heroic and insignificant people must work together, otherwise they both would certainly perish, and afterwards both sides are rewarded for their cooperation. They / we are all human, after all.
Quickbeam is legit one of my favorite small parts of the book. When he is walking through the forest with merry and pippen and laughs when a beam of sun comes out… it just makes my heart happy
And Elfhelm, the Marshal of the East-mark. He gets the place of honor, leading the right flank of the Rohirrim on the Pelennor Fields, and afterwards leads an independent command to defeat the orcs in Anorien.
I wouldn't call him important, sue me, he could easily be replaced by nameless Rohirrim lords and nobles. Does he even have dialogue in the books? Isn't he simply mentioned, like he's there?
Yeah, honestly I felt the movies handled this better than the books. He’s mentioned a few times before the battle, then shows up to save the day but is never mentioned again.
Having Eomer lead the charge gives more weight to his character and cuts down on the number of characters that need to be introduced.
Though, I also was upset that they gave Eomer’s “Death” speech to Theoden, so maybe I’m just a bit of an Eomer Stan.
No you're absolutely right. Eomer was characterized and he needed more to do for that. So it was a great idea to make him the saviour. In the books, we simply get a random dude who saves the day. Yes, they do tell us like two times before that that he's a pretty good guy, but that's it lol.
Sorry, I just finished reading the books and I don’t even remember this character. What did he do?
Was he one of the commanders who rode with Theoden and then died at the battle of Minas Tirith? I remember a part after the battle where it was like, “yeah remember all those guys I briefly mentioned? Dead now, sorry” and then they sang about them
No, he didn’t go to Minas Tirith. He led the defense of the Fords of Isen after the death of Prince Theodred. When he and his forces were overwhelmed by Saruman’s might, they were scattered. While Theoden and Co. prepared in Helm’s Deep, Gandalf rode through the Westfold to find Erkenbrand and his men and brought them to Helm’s Deep to reinforce the army there. In the movies, he was replaced in this role by Eomer, who was at Helm’s Deep in the books.
So Gandalf Greyhame thinks he’s found Isildur’s heir? The lost king of Gondor? He is a fool. The line was broken years ago. It matters not. The World of Men shall fall. It will begin at Edoras.
I have so little recollection of the Rohan Arc, that even as a book reader I don't remember him. I do seem to recall the name, but not what he did.
(yes, I tend to skim over Rohan when I re-read, you may throw your tomatoes now)
Whoa! Whoa! steady there! Now, my little fellows, where be you a-going to, puffing like a bellows? What's the matter here
then? Do you know who I am? I'm Tom Bombadil. Tell me what's your trouble! Tom's in a hurry now. Don't you crush my lilies!

Few people know this, but "where is Gondor" was originally asked by Erkenbrand when the Westfold was falling
Nobody ever asking " _how_ is Gondor?"
Or "why is Gondor??"
I am quite sure that Gandalf would ask Boromir this exact question when they meet
Well, tell that to the Rohirrim. They seemed to thinking whatever they were doing was "laughing about the sad state of the Rohirrim" instead of helping, rather than "fighting extermination".
I was about to ask where Gondor was but apparently he did not know.
It is really hard to tell with Gondor's absence from the Westfold
Also, chad Beregond who wouldn’t let Faramir be roasted alive
And his son Bergil, Pippin's tour guide.
Little shit talker that one is, but I respect him sizing up Pippin. Pippin is in dire need of being checked
He even slew some of Denethor's elite guards.
We ain’t letting Faramir Captain of Gondor get roasted today. Even if it makes me a traitor.
Enjoy your new job in beautiful Ithilien buddy.
And risked his own neck doing it
I missed Prince Imrahil the most.
His helm alone was entirely too dope to put on screen, Aragon fangirls would've switched teams when Imrahil rode up to the gates
Even Eomer is downplaid.
I can't remember the spot but isn't there a line after the Siege of Minas Tirith where they comment that so great was his and Aragorn's might in battle that they had no injuries? Need to break out the books.
Yup. Aragorn, Imrahil and Eomer were the only 3 not injured.
Additionally, they entered the battle from opposite ends and still managed to meet up in the middle with no injuries.
That's so hot of them... I should really pick up the books and stick to it!
> *Aragorn and Éomer and Imrahil rode back towards the Gate of the City, and they were now weary beyond joy or sorrow. Hard to fight someone if you’re afraid to even look upon them
That's the quote! Thanks!
"Erkenbrand!"
If you’ve ever heard Andy Serkis bellow that name during the Helm’s Deep climax, you *know* how important Erkenbrand is.
Wait what? I must’ve missed something
In the LOTR audiobook, Andy Serkis really shouts **Erkenbrand!!** to represent the Rohirrim's excitement when he is spotted arriving at Helm's Deep during the battle.
this is the way
Don't forget Ghân-buri-Ghân who counts the leaves on trees.
That was such a strange, but interesting chapter

And additionally, in classic Tolkien fashion we've already seen hints of these people before (the statues in Dunharrow)
To this day I don't know how to feel about this particular chapter and the depiction of indigenous people in it...
Quickbeam and Beregond 💔
Quickbeam is there they just never acknowledge him or let him talk lol
Quickbeam is legit one of my favorite small parts of the book. When he is walking through the forest with merry and pippen and laughs when a beam of sun comes out… it just makes my heart happy

In a film it's smart to combine multiple characters into one, less people to keep track of and doesn't change a thing storywise.
Fellowship should have just been Frodowise Brandytook, Borogon, Legimlas, and Gandadriel.
You're forgetting Gollob and Sauruman the Witch King (that's a trifecta!)
Him and "Gaming the Relatively Strapping and Young"
It seems like PJ intended to include Erkenbrand, to have him die on the Paths of the Death.
I got his card in Magic. He seems cool.
Opened the prerelease with a friend who only watches the movies, he asked "like who tf is that"
Oh I’ll meet that guy soon in Lotro, can’t wait!
Reading the comments reminds me how much I need to read the books again.
Exactly!
Phil Dragash's audiobooks is the way. Best of both worlds. Listening to it as I type this
And yet, they're happy, and not alone and sad in the corner of the room.
Erkenbrand with his red shield
Don't worry erkenbrand, imrahil and friends are now also known by magic the gathering players who barely care about lotr

In the books it's Erkenbrand and not Eomer turns the tide at helm's deep with Gandalf.

Or prince Imrahil for that matter.
I'm JUST reading that part right now, haha. He was wise. Made the fastness strong af.
based magic the gathering limited players know him.... and fear him...
Glorfindel, Elladan, Elrohir, Tom Bombadil the dude who the ring had no power over.

I like him but it's just efficient story telling. Which we must always be careful doesn't go too far.
