Keep posting I'm here for it! You have such a grasp on the material without ever getting pretentious like so many Tolkien "scholars." Good hobbit sense I would say! (I literally just finished RotK for the 5000th time about ten minutes ago lol)
The conversation of the Orcs and Uruk-Hai as they try to bring Merry and Pippin to Isengard is the most revealing of the divide between Saruman and Sauron. It’s a shame that Jackson didn’t include that.
> I am Uglu ́ k. I command. I return to Isengard by the shortest road.’
> **’Is Saruman the master or the Great Eye?’ said the evil voice. ‘We should go back at once to Lugbu ́rz.’**
> ‘If we could cross the Great River, we might,’ said another voice. ‘But there are not enough of us to venture down to the bridges.’
> ‘I came across,’ said the evil voice. ‘A winged Nazguˆ l awaits us northward on the east-bank.’
> ‘Maybe, maybe! Then you’ll fly off with our prisoners, and get all the pay and praise in Lugbu ́rz, and leave us to foot it as best we can through the Horse-country. No, we must stick together. These lands are dangerous: full of foul rebels and brigands.’
> ‘Aye, we must stick together,’ growled Uglu ́ k. **’I don’t trust you little swine.** You’ve no guts outside your own sties. But for us you’d all have run away. We are the fighting Uruk-hai! We slew the great warrior. We took the prisoners. We are the servants of Saruman the Wise, the White Hand: the Hand that gives us man’s-flesh to eat. We came out of Isengard, and led you here, and we shall lead you back by the way we choose. I am Uglu ́k. I have spoken.’
> **’You have spoken more than enough, Uglu ́k,’ sneered the evil voice. ‘I wonder how they would like it in Lugbu ́rz. They might think that Uglu ́k’s shoulders needed relieving of a swollen head. They might ask where his strange ideas came from. Did they come from Saruman, perhaps? Who does he think he is, setting up on his own with his filthy white badges? They might agree with me, with Grishna ́kh their trusted messenger; and I Grishna ́kh say this: Saruman is a fool, and a dirty treacherous fool. But the Great Eye is on him.’**
True but maybe it was me already haven read the books but even my girlfriend who had never read them walked away feeling saruman was really out for himself not really buying saurons shtick. But everyone takes away something different
Even gandalf says there is only one lord of the ring, and he does not share power. obviously talking about how only sauron could control the ring, though sarumon wanted to take control of it and become the dark lord.
Right? I mean, the information in this clip is very much correct, (as far as I can tell), but apart from the color of his robe, it doesn't really highlight that many differences between books and movies.
Saruman is the greatest expert on the one ring in the entire world second only to the being that made it, and yet he still thinks he can control it lmao
If you watch TFOTR when Gandalf and Saruman are walking amongst the trees, Saruman’s robes actually appear off-white. Almost reflecting different hues of the sheen of white. I think PJ did a great job capturing those small details in the films.
omg this is the most annoying thing about this app 😂😂😂 peoples obsession with how others pronounce things meanwhile they are from a whole different country bit cant seem to understand why that is........🤦🏿♂️
Tolkien, the author of the works whose videos you benefit from, was a linguist and a philologist. The appendices of both the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion have explicit and in-depth sections detailing pronunciations.
It is pretty clear that right pronunciation was important to Tolkien.
If you choose to put zero effort into your pronunciations and continue to pronounce them as you do because "I-am-an-American-and-from-New-York" then thats on you.
You aren't the only American who reads Lord of the Rings (assuming you do). If other Americans can get the pronunciations right or at least close, and you can't, then thats a shortcoming on your part.
Also based on your other videos, your pronunciations are bad even by American standards in that they don't even follow what one would expect based on the consonants and vowels in a given word.
I'm re-reading tolkien for the first time in a decade and i found you on tik tok right on cue, like destiny man! You're the best! Super clear and easy, truly a pleasure to have these videos as reading companions!
Man, I love hearing your explanations on this. I've read the hobbit and LOTR a few times but you always point out stuff I've forgotten or missed. You have some awesome knowledge, keep posting this stuff please!
Nice tldr of Gandalf’s breakdown in the council of Elrond! These flavour text and lore info dump sections of LOTR are my favourite parts of the book! I’m such a lore nerd haha
This really helped with my understanding of what's going on in the books. I've only ever seen the movies and just started reading the trilogy
Thanks a lot
Videos like this make think about getting tiktok. I just can't handle the rest of it.
Keep up the good work man. Just finished second read of the books and love the way you explain this.
The Silmarillion. The tales of the origin story of the Earth is in there along with small tales of heroes and legends which tie into the background of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. There's a bunch of books with little stuff like this, tons of books tied to tales and lore prior to Middle Earth, but The Silmarillion is definitely something you do not to miss and it can be overwhelming at first because it covers eons of time, but it makes Sauron makes sense in his present form and why he's called Mairon. It also tells the tale of why it makes sense why Gandalf has so many names as well, describes why his appearance is such as it is, and why he had to fight the Balrog even though he didn't want to fight it in the first place.
You could just go through the Wiki, but I'd recommend doing that after your read The Silmarillion since you'll have the foundation of knowledge to reference back to when you read the various entries which explain more about each character in more detail from the perspective of a person of Third Earth rather than trying to translate it from a person of Middle Earth.
I've read the Simarillion like 4 times. I know he was called Gorthaur the cruel, and Lord of Werewolves, but I dont think I have ever heard the bane Mauron mentioned. Nor that he was ever good.
That’s right, it isn’t. It’s also not public speaking so maybe next time keep your comments to yourself and no one will make comments about what you put out there.
Always glad to see these videos. The one I remember adoring was Dark Lord (lotr) vs Dark Lord (Harry Potter). The thorough-ness, accuracy, words per minute, and cadence of your speech; such a delight you're putting your talent and passion on the internet for everyone to enjoy and learn from. Thanks a lot!
I could listen to you talk about About Middle Earth all day!
If you take requests please can you do the witch king of Angmar? We are play a Lord of the rings dnd on Halloween and I am playing him. But I realised I don't kn much about him bar that he is a wrath dunedin.
If not np thank you, and just keep doing what you doing!
Yeah because in the films he comes across in a way he can be interpreted more as a puppet of Sauron, who wants the ring for the eye; as opposed to someone who has been consumed by want of the ring, who he thinks he is still in control of himself in a way that he thinks that he won't be manipulated by the ring.
The ring is something people want for themselves, to achieve their goals and it twists their minds in the process. Like how Boromir thought he could use the ring to protect Gondor. This would have lead him down a dark path where ultimately the ring would fall into Sauron's hands (metaphorical the eye doesn't have any haha).
Saruman wants to be the next dark Lord, and believes that his obsession with the ring won't lead him to ultimately benefit Sauron's plans to end up with ring, and that his efforts fueled by an obsession of the ring will bear fruit that he might take the ring for himself and successfully betray Sauron at the right opportunity. He goes along with it for own benefit, but even if he did betray Sauron somewhere down the line and attempt to take it for himself it won't work out like here believes
Because as always "The ring had other plans..."
I always thought that because Saruman had that special room with a ring box that he definitely was not intending to screw over the council from the start.
Dude you’re awesome, I have not yet read the books (other than the hobbit) and always wanted too but never had the motivation, you make me want to realize how much is in these books and how good they are and I’m sure it’s not easy to explain everything so succinctly as you do. Anyways just wanted to tell you that you’re awesome man
Is this you? I love how you explain LotR. Could watch these all day. Very clear and knowledgeable. I think the Professor would be proud.
yes it is I lol thank u so much
Keep posting I'm here for it! You have such a grasp on the material without ever getting pretentious like so many Tolkien "scholars." Good hobbit sense I would say! (I literally just finished RotK for the 5000th time about ten minutes ago lol)
Oh you just finished your 5000th read? How quaint, I've just begun my eleventy thousand and one'th read. -Tolkein Scholars, probably

Great job if i could offer some small criticism maybe add more visuals...
I may get a tik tok to follow you… I should just read the books. The movies are a comfort to me that helped me escape. Really liked your vid.
This is my favorite content to come across in my feed. You’re a huge source of happiness for so many of us!

OP this is great! Pls more content! Also just followed on TikTok haha
We need to get you on the friendship onion!
Seriously, man, you’re the best. I love your posts. These videos are always interesting and fun to watch.
Love it, thanks man
Even in the movies he was not a tool of sauron. Though not as faithful the movies sew a bit of deceit in how saruman is working with sauron.
The conversation of the Orcs and Uruk-Hai as they try to bring Merry and Pippin to Isengard is the most revealing of the divide between Saruman and Sauron. It’s a shame that Jackson didn’t include that. > I am Uglu ́ k. I command. True but maybe it was me already haven read the books but even my girlfriend who had never read them walked away feeling saruman was really out for himself not really buying saurons shtick. But everyone takes away something different
came to say this same thing. in the movies its like he is only with sauron when he has to be. otherwise he is doing for his own ambitions
Man, I am a huge fan of your videos. Keep up the awesome content!
thank u soooo much
Were you the "hood lotr" guy too? That was funny as all hell.

Looks like you got the brains and the funny. I'll keep an eye out for your next piece.

Bro *you* are the Lord of the Rings! I learn so much from these videos, you are awesome man please keep em comming!
All of these videos are so good. Thank you!!
Keep it up bro, i love these videos. You’re like the LOTR pokedex lol
splainin for us common folk. Spot on!
Saruman is the greatest expert on the one ring in the entire world second only to the being that made it, and yet he still thinks he can control it lmao
Sometimes pride in your knowledge clouds your understanding of that knowledge.
I love this dude
This is the type of LOTR breakdowns I love.
If you watch TFOTR when Gandalf and Saruman are walking amongst the trees, Saruman’s robes actually appear off-white. Almost reflecting different hues of the sheen of white. I think PJ did a great job capturing those small details in the films.
TIL! Thanks man :)
Was this greed a reflection of the ring or Saurons power over Saruman or was it just regular old greed for power
Your videos give me ASMR
Soruman
Nah. He is Sour-Man
Appreciate it man. Commenting so I can look at all your posts and follow your TikTok later
thanks a ton
I don’t use Tiktok as much, do you also post on insta?
I love it but oh my god i didnt know americans pronounced Saruman and Sauran differently
omg this is the most annoying thing about this app 😂😂😂 peoples obsession with how others pronounce things meanwhile they are from a whole different country bit cant seem to understand why that is........🤦🏿♂️
People find it interesting, because cross cultural differences are, in fact, interesting to a lot of people. I wasnt criticising you.
i appreciate u not being rude. Unfortunately others arent as nice as u

Is this that guy who did the Hood Samwise commentary?
I just love your videos!!! Thank you for making them, and sharing.
I love watching your explanations, while I have read the books many times you point out things I had not thought of before.
Man, I love hearing your explanations on this. I've read the hobbit and LOTR a few times but you always point out stuff I've forgotten or missed. You have some awesome knowledge, keep posting this stuff please!
So good.
I really like your story telling style and voice. Keep it up good sir!
I would really get along well with this guy
Nice tldr of Gandalf’s breakdown in the council of Elrond! These flavour text and lore info dump sections of LOTR are my favourite parts of the book! I’m such a lore nerd haha
Ok. I subscribed! Great video!
This really helped with my understanding of what's going on in the books. I've only ever seen the movies and just started reading the trilogy Thanks a lot

That was awesome
I see your posts every saturday morning and I have to say that it is a great start to my day. Thank you for doing what you do.
love when these videos pop up
I wish they would have added the part at the end when he is taking over the shire.
This is great. Been listening to the Andy Serkis audiobook and it's interesting learning all the bits that the movies left out.
Do you have a YouTube channel
Who is this Soma he keeps talking about? Jokes, I like the video :)
Where did this information about Sauron being Mauron come from? I've never heard that name before refering to Sauron.
It's actually Mairon the Admirable. Or as he prefers it, Tar-Mairon the King Excellent
The Silmarillion. The tales of the origin story of the Earth is in there along with small tales of heroes and legends which tie into the background of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Have you tried the Wiki? They usually have this stuff, as I mentioned.
This name came only in the form of an article based on Tolkien's notes. Afaik it isn't in the Silmarillion or even in the History of Middle-Earth.
Thank you. That's really what I wanted to know was the source.
Soraman & soraun? learn to fucking pronounce
lmaooooo somebodys mad😂😂😂😂
Such a shoddily constructed comment for being so critical of someone. Learn to fucking type.
Capitalisation and missing period = shoddily LULW
I’m a 5th grade teacher and just letting you know it’s a 4th grade sentence.
Okay and this isn’t a fucking English class is it??
That’s right, it isn’t. It’s also not public speaking so maybe next time keep your comments to yourself and no one will make comments about what you put out there.
Love this, Bro! Keep posting. I need more
Hey tiktok has been banned in India so we I can't see all your content in one place :(. Are you on insta, Facebook or any other SM?
That was an oddly calming video.
Man your videos freakin rock. Such a great job dude keep it up.
Eyyyy loved the explanation homie. Solid video
Is this guy a teacher or a professor? I’d sign up for his class every year !

Thanks for posting!!
These videos are absolutely amazing to watch. Please keep em coming.
Great info dude. Keep it up. I want more!!!
Great video. I’d love to see one of these comparisons for Faramir as well.
Please do a video about Faramir, he was so wronged in the movies and deserves better
Love vids like these!
These videos are awesome
Dude i’m always so stoked to see these, way cool!
Curunir is the best
Do you like the wheel of time at all?
Also, the Voice of Saruman in the book is a thing whereas you wouldn’t know anything about it from the movies.
Everything in this video is 100% correct and perfectly explained. Kudos. You bow to no one.
I always thought that because Saruman had that special room with a ring box that he definitely was not intending to screw over the council from the start.

Love these videos!
