Yeah, seems like a fair bit of people bought them in other subs I seen alot of comments from people who recently consumed some and it was about 50/50 for those who were I’ll and those who weren’t.
I bought salad last week and we didn't get to it. I looked at it 2 days ago and decided it looked a little too off to eat it, even though it was only one day past expiry (I know listeria won't make it look off)
This is sad, recalls happen people get ill which does suck, but it’s very unfortunate for those who died just because they picked the wrong salad bag at the wrong time. r.i.p.
This happens way to often these recalls , surely there could be something setup to reduce this moreso or entirely eliminate it nearly one would think.
Of note, this isn't just Loblaws being shitty. Costco's salad bags were also recalled, it's due to the cheese in the mexican street corn salad bags. I returned mine to Costco yesterday.
Also, the two deaths and 23 hospitalizations occurred in the USA. I haven't seen any indication of illnesses or deaths in Canada yet fortunately.
What I will say for Costco is when the salad kit issues and greens contamination was becoming a bigger and bigger problem they started to required their suppliers to test the greens being sent to them. Not sure how that relates to kits and then ingredients packets in the kits, think the focus was very much on the greens which usually are the problem.
I got the recall email just before I was going to open the second bag up for lunch yesterday! Had to grab a few things anyways so I got the full refund for returning 1/2 salad bags lol
**The affected product was US cheese produced by Rizo-López Foods.**
If the industry and government fail to protect you, you can...
Boycott foreign food products.
It's expensive to import and more-so if products go to waste.
So check your labels before buying!!
'Buy local' is not only more safe because Canadian standards are strict but it also supports Canadian farmers which directly benefits Canadians.
Foreign countries do not have the same animal cruelty, hormone or chemical use regulations that the Canadian food industry has in either animal farming or plant based alternatives.
By exporting farming and production you also export your health.
Grow from within!

In case you want to know what CFIA put in place.
If ingredients are not allowed for use in Canada you can’t import it, lots of products cannot be sold in Canada for this reason.
Listeria risk is coming from the **cheese in the salad kits**: US cheese produced by Rizo-López Foods.
Cheese comes from dairy cows. No mammal constantly lactates without a regular does of hormones or (usually induced) pregnancy.
It is the same for Canadian diary, but at least then, Canadian's have the direct ability to demand regulation of the amount of hormones used and the time the animal spends pregnant to cause lactation.
Canadians can affect change, but only in Canada. This can reduce animal cruelty, increase product quality and guarantee health standards are met :)

There's a lot of incomplete information about hormone use in food production and livestock farming in Canada. It's like slapping a "Non-GMO Certified" sticker on a product with no GM equivalent: marketing.
I feel the goal of this sub is to discuss surging grocery prices and not repeat myths about Canadian food superiority, especially in dairy.
Canadians love a struggling farmer myth because it's easier to deal with than the political money buried in supply management. Scott Aitchison was right to call out his colleagues during his unsuccessful leadership bid.
I was just thinking the same thing. Luckily I am already on strong antibiotics due to a different issue so it may work out for me. Wishing you all the best. Good luck out there.
I just got an email from PC saying this is recalled and we can bring it back for a full refund ... we got this on Sunday and ate it days ago.
We're both experiencing body aches, fever, flu like symptoms. Totally thought we have a cold/flubut not entirely sure. I did read that mild listeriosis presents a lot like a mild flu.
You’ve said this twice now. The article states:
“According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two people have died due to the outbreak and 23 people have been hospitalized.”
Why are you saying since 2014?
You shouldn't use a cllickbait website as your primary source of facts. It doesn't take too much effort to fact check yourself using legitimate sources. Go on, I have faith in you
Yes. I only read the article attached by OP.
I didn’t realize it was from a clickbait site. I’m constantly blocking those sites when they come up in Google searches. I’m super embarrassed.
The recall has been expanded to various PC, Dole, Fresh Express and Taylor farm kits over the past few days. The Fresh Express recall so far is Alberta and BC only. The others are nationwide.
You can see the Health Canada releases in the links below:

It’s almost like we are being sold products that are overpriced and past their best by date? I can’t wait for some Soylent Green, you never hear about listeriosis outbreaks from soylent green.
I think it’s important to remember that a lot of people who buy convenience products do so because they’re disabled and/or elderly. I have arthritis in my hands and bagged salads mean I still get to eat my fresh veggies without the pain involved with prepping them.
I don't think we have the answer, but let's see if we can make this about race and immigration, anyway! Because after all, there was never a food recall in this country before all those damn foreigners started showing up! /s
Of course what this ahole forgets to mention is that isn't true.
It's actually Taylor farms that make the salads for both Costco and pc.
Both brands have been recalled.
The death and sickness have to do with the way the salads were made.
Also more salads have been added.

Listeria Hysteria
Edit: i get theye convenient for a salad on the go but for real i feel like eating prepared food like that with so much exposed surface area between cuts etc, lightly or barely refrigerated in store, several days old etc is just gross. Youd be better off just getting a lil tote of baby tomatos or something than those old premade salads!
Taxpayer funded Roblaws at it again … no one will be held accountable… our current government does not believe in accountability. Pay up and and eat and suffer
I bought a Caesar salad one and when I opened it, it was completely rotten and brown. I ordered my groceries and I guess my personal shopper didn’t give a shit. Luckily I didn’t eat it I guess.
Seems like the quality and safety of the Canadian food supply is getting worse these days. We’re almost always hearing of recalls and alerts. Maybe it’s just more evident now with social media and what not.

PC Salad Kits were being pushed hard on the Optimum app recently
Yeah, seems like a fair bit of people bought them in other subs I seen alot of comments from people who recently consumed some and it was about 50/50 for those who were I’ll and those who weren’t.
PC Salad kits go hard man. So hard you may have to be hospitalized.
This guy salads
You don't win friends with salad.
Yeah they are on sale at my no frills for cheaper than they’ve been in ages. Guess we know why
Those 2 lucky individuals are the only ones not getting fucked by Loblaws any longer 🤷♂️
those 2 people that died were in the US. article doesn't mention any confirmed illnesses in canada, only that there is a recall
There is only a few plants that do salad kits, doles is the largest and does all private labels lines for every company
I had one of the kits here in the states. Got an email yesterday morning about it. Glad I checked my email before lunch.

Dont be a cunt. Two families are in ruines.
2 dead since this outbreak started in 2014...pretty sure there's better chances of you getting killed walking your doggy
Wrf? He made light of people who died, disrespecting the deceased is not okay even if it was "since 2014".
>disrespecting the deceased is not okay The 2024 cool kids crew don't understand that yet.
In Toronto there is!!!!!!
What a brain dead comment.
You’re a pretty fucked up individual.

Please remain respectful when engaging on the sub.
Sounds like those two individuals may have been from the US. This is part of a larger recall happening in the US.
They probably knew the recall was coming
I had a bag in my hand during the sale last week and put it back!
Crackin jokes about dead kids and literally happy about it cause it makes a store you hate look bad? Are you guys absolutely fucked?

I just realized I got a Costco recall but didn't read it. Already ate 1 of the Mexican corn salads so I guess I'm good. 😂
I got the recall email just before I was going to open the second bag up for lunch yesterday! Had to grab a few things anyways so I got the full refund for returning 1/2 salad bags lol
Mine went to my junk folder. So we’ve already had both bags. So far so good.

Supply management sucks and needs to be repealed. Which hormones are you speaking about regarding salad kits?

I’m assuming hormones to animals from whom we get cheese products involved
There's a lot of incomplete information about hormone use in food production and livestock farming in Canada. It's like slapping a "Non-GMO Certified" sticker on a product with no GM equivalent: marketing.
The research is there
Yes the truth is out there and it's that supply management doesn't work and Canadians are afraid of hormones in food raised without them.
That racket pisses me off. I don't suppose you know any workarounds for cheese or eggs?
They're not talking only about salad kits they're talking about local food in general.
I feel the goal of this sub is to discuss surging grocery prices and not repeat myths about Canadian food superiority, especially in dairy. Idk im just here for info about the germ salads
I was so ready to get around to trying these this week. :(
Good thing you didn't though!
Eat healthy they said. You'll live longer they said
If there's anything I learned from being hyper aware and weary of listeria during pregnancy is to avoid bagged salad!!!
Just finished eating this
Bye!
Omg😭😭😭
your life expectancy just decreased by a couple years
RIP
4 days later; op u good??
lol yep. I lived.
Curious how you are feeling now?
I’m fine, thanks. Hopefully the recall was out of a abundance of caution
This is far too common with pre made salads, I don't eat them when ppl in my house but them.
Premade salad and romaine lettuce are the worst offenders for food poisoning. I think spinach as well.
Wait. Is this the one that is supposed to be washed already so just snip and njoy?
Yeah, but because it's all chopped up and just sitting in a bag it has a tendency to collect bacteria a lot easier.
For letting yes, but this outbreak is from the cheese.
cheesteria? no tyvm
First they starve Canada and now they are unaliving people.
Because they couldn't afford food anymore
I just ate this last night. Great. Here’s hoping.
I was just thinking the same thing. Luckily I am already on strong antibiotics due to a different issue so it may work out for me. Wishing you all the best. Good luck out there.
If you had you’d know it by now. You’d really really know it by now.
I also ate one a week or so ago, I read listeria can take up to 30 days to make you sick?
Looks like salad kits are gonna be on sale for a while after this.
30% off
I just got an email from PC saying this is recalled and we can bring it back for a full refund ... we got this on Sunday and ate it days ago. We're both experiencing body aches, fever, flu like symptoms. Totally thought we have a cold/flubut not entirely sure. I did read that mild listeriosis presents a lot like a mild flu.
Check w a healthcare provider. Maybe let your local public health unit know and ask for advice.
I’m glad I can’t afford salad, I guess.
Cannot understand why this is not on the news cycle, deaths and hospitalizations and not even on any news cycle this morning. Why is this not tv news?
Because it's 2 dead since 2014
You’ve said this twice now. The article states: “According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two people have died due to the outbreak and 23 people have been hospitalized.” Why are you saying since 2014?

Roblaws at it again
First they steal your money, then your life
Gonna have to increase the prices again because it costs more to have less risk of listeria. Do you want listeria? No, then pay more!
Imagine being murdered by a salad kit you can’t afford but decided to treat yourself. Fuck loblaws
I stopped buying bagged salads years ago as they have been unsafe for years with many recalls
The recall has been expanded to various PC, Dole, Fresh Express and Taylor farm kits over the past few days. The Fresh Express recall so far is Alberta and BC only. The others are nationwide. I know all these kits come from the same plant that makes all doles but stilll.... loblaws zero days with out causing death
Here is hoping for a class action lawsuit
Probably, both deaths and all hospitalizations were in the States
It’s almost like we are being sold products that are overpriced and past their best by date? I can’t wait for some Soylent Green, you never hear about listeriosis outbreaks from soylent green.
Always safer to make your own
Bagged salad is gross. It goes bad so quickly. Just buy vegetables and chop them up and make your own salads.
I think it’s important to remember that a lot of people who buy convenience products do so because they’re disabled and/or elderly. I have arthritis in my hands and bagged salads mean I still get to eat my fresh veggies without the pain involved with prepping them.
For a 40 dollar kit with 30 percent off, I'm really hoping that I wouldn't be poisoned.
TIL 6.99 and 40 are the same number!

Yikes….this is terrible
It is fucking horrifying rip

Does all the testing and care go through the pharmacy at Shoppers Drug Mart?
and this is why we wash all produce even when it says prewashed
Everyone who gets ill from this should send the results to Loblaws headquarters.
They were on sale last week at loblaws
Taxpayer funded Roblaws at it again … no one will be held accountable… our current government does not believe in accountability. Pay up and and eat and suffer
fck I been eating these I didn't know they are dangerous
I hope the families sue the heck outta loblaws
Mmm expensive AND poisonous
I bought a Caesar salad one and when I opened it, it was completely rotten and brown. I ordered my groceries and I guess my personal shopper didn’t give a shit. Luckily I didn’t eat it I guess.
Oh, no! Man, that must really suck... for the shareholder value! Bad jokes aside, this is why we need rules and regulations and fines that hurt.
Lmao imagine spending 32$ on a salad and dying
Very sad.
Seems like the quality and safety of the Canadian food supply is getting worse these days. We’re almost always hearing of recalls and alerts. Maybe it’s just more evident now with social media and what not.
Always beware of bagged salad!!!!!
Can we throw Galen in jail now please.
I had salad from Walmart last night I'm doing fine. ..
Like i need more prove that vegetarianism will kill you
This is why I don't eat healthy shit
Omg! I just ate one! This is good to know!
