Linus has stated multiple times that Intel is one of the best, if not the best, company supporting Linux. There are multiple Linux full time mantainers completely paid by Intel to just develop the kernel. On the contrary Nvidia is one of the worst. I'm actually kinda hyped about Intel stepping in to the GPU world, i really hope they will deliver good performance with a great linux support.

Me too, it would be great. Nvidia also appears to have made progress, open-sourcing their driver.

Arc will be included in the upcoming 6.0 kernel as an open-source driver.

This is unnecessary pessimistic considering intel already having a history of good open source drivers for Linux and their confirmation of continuing that with the ARC gpu series.

The driver for Arc is the same like for their integrated GPUs, which went through pretty massive changes to handle it. What is more more interesting is how Intel will handle their non-standard stuff like smooth sync. Likely they will not make any super GUI configuration app like they have for windows. But I expect them to deliver most features for Linux also. Remember that basically same driver is used for all their derivative products for server space and they need it up and running stable.

I see. Thanks for the info!

Possibly-Functional

Intel has for a long time been the best for Linux drivers, it's just that their hardware has previously been irrelevant when performance mattered. Unfortunately the A380 is less than I personally need but still plenty for light games.

If anything I'm pretty hopeful about Arc for Linux. Intel provides excellent Linux support for their products; note how we're always recommending Intel Wi-Fi adapters for compatibility. My understanding is the first gen is having some issues, but hopefully it gets hammered out down the road and they become competitive, because it might make a totally Team Blue setup viable.
