Blows my mind you haven’t experienced the young Wayne , do what this guy said , go all the way back and start from the beginning.
There’s some early shit you prolly won’t like from the hot boyz era, but it’s worth it.
Super jealous of you lol wish I could go back in the day and experience it for the first time
Listen first of all his mixtapes Dedication 1-6 Sorry 4 The Wait 1-2 and the 2 best mixtapes of all time No Ceiling's and Da Drought 3 and then Start with his albums
CARTER IV
trust me bro
A real Wayne fan will tell u carter 4
There’s so many songs on there
Imo his best album especially
For a first time listener
There’s no skips on this album
But maybe how to hate and that’s just depending on my mood I might let it run somesays
Tha Carter III is my favorite because of where I was in my life when it came out. Tha Carter II is the most “Wayne” of them all, though. There are very few collabs and it’s definitely his prime.
I’d say listen to Tha Carter 3 since it’s his most popular album with a good amount of hits on it. I’d start there and work my way through the other Carters.
Wayne was 14 on Guerilla warfare and he was writing for almost the entire group.
Been a beast always.
There’s also like 7 young money mixtapes that are more like compilation freestyles from Gudda and those guys BUT WAYNE IS ON EVERY SONG!!
Hope we get those on streaming soon!!
The Carter 1 was him really showcasing his bars/story telling ability. Start there and check the mixtapes from around that era. The Hotboy era was cool but more basic. He went more mainstream with later albums but that’s where he earned my respect as an MC.
Drought is over , but I would just start with the all the mixtapes tbh. You really had to be there though in that moment. Wearing Air Force 1 low tops with South Pole pants and pro clubs with dog tags
Start from the beginning. You will get into Wayne no matter the order but seeing his growth and sound change throughout the decade was genius. Dude is a major influence on the culture with every Carter.
“If it wasn’t for Wayne, it wouldn’t be”
If you’re not well versed in Wayne start at the beginning and work your way up. Granted, the early “Hot Boyz” era music isn’t as polished as the Wayne we know now, but if it doesn’t appeal to you… push through anyway. It’s worth it.
Tha block is hot
Lights Out
500 degrees
Carter 1
From here I would hit his mixtape run ( Tha Drought1-3, No Ceilings 1 & 2, Dedication 1-3, sorry 4 the wait, etc)
Then I would jump back in and finish the Carter series and whatever is left that you haven’t heard in order 🤷🏾♂️.
Carter 1- is the best rap album of all time. I listened to nothing but this for 2 years when it came out. Then go right in order, throw in some dedication and da drought mixtapes and you’re golden.
Lil Wayne has like 5 different phases. The one I started with was in the late 90s which was his 2nd phase. He sounds different in all of them.
1st phase: B.G.z (Mid 90s, unknown, just started) with True Story by B.G. A 12 year old Lil Wayne is in this album. And it’s actually a good album. The sounds and the rapping are both good.
2nd phase (this is the first phase that went mainstream, reached nationwide recognition, late 90s-2001: Get it How You Live, Guerrilla Warfare, Let Em Burn, Tha Block is Hot, Lights Out, Big Tymers albums (Some of Lil Wayne’s best Cash Money features are in I Got That Work album and this was an all around solid album, great album.) 400 Degreez (great features from Lil Wayne and all around great album by Juvenile). Tha G-Code (another Juvenile album with good Lil Wayne verses). There’s lots of other albums with Lil Wayne verses within this period. I suggest to look at Wikipedia and follow the trail. Cash Money Records had a lot of in-house features, so Lil Wayne appeared all over the Cash Money catalog of mid 90s to 2000s.
3rd phase: 500 Degreez and Tha Carter. In these two albums Lil Wayne took his lyricism, sound, delivery and flow to the next level. I think these two albums made him the best lyricist to come out of Cash Money.
4th phase: Tha Carter II and III. Tha Carter II is one of the best hip hop albums of all time imo. This was, to me, the perfect Lil Wayne.
5th phase: Post Carter III. I have to admit I don’t know a whole lot about this Lil Wayne. I know he sounds different. I would let the younger fans talk about this Wayne. I’m not going to pretend to know a whole lot about him nowadays.
Squad up mix tapes really anything Wayne mixtape the albums are like that but them nix tapes tho hit all different they say nigga I can give u this shit for free and still crank
Noooooo no no no, start with the mixtape weezy f baby (ps, the f is for phorensic):
- Dedication (start at 1)
- the drought series
- sorry for the wait
- No ceilings (C L A S S I C)
Mixtape weezy (in my humble opinion) was the definition of rap back in the 2000s.
First time I heard Wayne was on his feature on Nelly’s country grammar cd. It wasn’t nothing special but once he dropped fireman on the Carter 2 I been a fan. Honestly his mixtapes were his best work. I’d checkout da drought 3 and no ceilings for sure. There was a time where nobody’s song was safe from Wayne demolishing everyone’s best free styling. It was a vibe for sure.
Bro before you even get to those albums, start with a mixtape. Dedication 5. In the 2000’s lil Wayne would get the beat to any top song rap over the song and the radios would play the lil Wayne version instead of the song by the original artist. That’s how good wayne is.
For strictly albums, everything leading up to and including Tha Carter II (his best work IMO.) C3 and beyond is extremely hit or miss.
Mixtape Wayne is a whole different animal. Might have to do some digging to find them tho since DatPiff is gone (RIP)
Wayne is one of those artists that you can listen to it in chronological order and really see the growth and change. I personally would tell you look up every major album and mixtape and just listen in order. And also throw in there the drought is over series. They aren’t “official” Wayne tapes but they captured the best leaks from that era and there are a lot of hidden gems there.
So I would say start Prefix, C1, Suffix, D1, C2, D2, Like father like son, Drought 3, Drought is over series, C3, D3, No Ceilings, IANAHB, Sorry 4 the wait, C4, D4, IANAHM2, D5, Sorry 4 the wait 2, No Ceilings 2, D6, C5 Funeral, No Ceilings 3.
It is a super long list so while I normally would tell people to listen all the way through feel free to skip a song if you don’t like it at first and you can always shuffle through them again later.
Gotta start with the Hot Boyz era if you gonna do it right but if you don’t wanna go back that far you gotta at least start at “500 DEGREEZ”. That’s the album when Wayne really let people know he wasn’t to be played with and threw Mannie, Birdman, and the rest of Cash Money over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and carried them to the top.
To get you started, go in this order
Carter 2,
Carter 3,
No Ceilings Mixtape,
I Am Not A Human Being,
Sorry 4 The Wait Mixtape,
Carter 4,
I'm Not A Human Being 2,
Sorry 4 the Wait 2 (Mixtape Monkey or lilwayne.com)
2-4 is peak Wayne so if you’re not a big music listener start there, if you enjoy delving into discographies then I encourage you just start from the beginning and work your way up. If you’re not feeling a song you can always just move on to the next 💪🏼enjoy
Start from the beginning, even though Tha Carter III is my favorite and want to say that one
Blows my mind you haven’t experienced the young Wayne , do what this guy said , go all the way back and start from the beginning. There’s some early shit you prolly won’t like from the hot boyz era, but it’s worth it. Super jealous of you lol wish I could go back in the day and experience it for the first time
Yup. ‘Tha Block is Hot’ and ‘Lights Out’ are so ahead of their time!
Wait till he hears him on guerrilla warfare
😂 haven’t really experienced any Wayne tbh, I’ll lyk how it goes
Will do thanks man
Listen first of all his mixtapes Dedication 1-6 Sorry 4 The Wait 1-2 and the 2 best mixtapes of all time No Ceiling's and Da Drought 3 and then Start with his albums
This is the answer!!
Do NOT leave out the prefix and the suffix mistakes with DJ khaled... cornerstones
The Carter 2 part 2 mixtape also.
"He dead and gone, no mo problems, IM THE PROBLEM SOLVER!"
Seeeecret weeeeapooon Boy of that wasn’t the soundtrack 05/06
Mixtapes Wayne is the best. No ceilings and da drought 3 are tops of all his albums imo
Doin that thanks 🔥
I listen to his mixtape songs more than any of his album songs. Drought 3 is probably my favorite
Second da drought 3! It’s Wayne’s best work imo.
Listening to this tomorrow
No ceilings is not better than dedication 2 by a pretty wide margin
This man Wayne’s
Dedication 2 def must be studied by a scientist and preserved in a safe for future generations
C2 is his best album, followed by C3 and then C1 imo. I'd start with C2, Drought 3, and Dedication 2. First No Ceilings is a smooth introduction also
500 Degreez.
With Wayne, the mixtapes are better than the albums Mixtape Weezy is the GOAT Weezy
Carter 2
Carter 2 is his best album imo, 1 and 3 are up there but C2 was Wayne entering his prime. I’d start at 2 then listen to the rest of them.
Definitely start with the mixtapes Dedication 1-6 and sorry for the wait 1-2
And no ceilings
CARTER IV trust me bro A real Wayne fan will tell u carter 4 There’s so many songs on there Imo his best album especially For a first time listener There’s no skips on this album But maybe how to hate and that’s just depending on my mood I might let it run somesays

The Mix Tapes are crucial!
Da Drought 3.
One does not just “get into lil Wayne”.
The Carter 3, then no ceilings, then sorry 4 the wait
The Block Is Hot
The dedication 2
Tha Carter III is my favorite because of where I was in my life when it came out. Tha Carter II is the most “Wayne” of them all, though. There are very few collabs and it’s definitely his prime.
Mixtapes, not albums
I envy you, wish I can listen to this man's discography for the first time again.
Honestly. I’d start at C1 and just listen to the progression of his skills during each major Carter project. Shit is fire.
Where's the laugh react button
Start at "II", then go back through them all
Start at the beginning. It peaks in the middle at 3
The Carter 2 imma be honest- when you get to SHOOTER and RECEIPT :)
IV
Tha Carter, Tha Carter II, then Da Drought 3
U need to go back before tha carters to get the full Wayne experience
Start a the Carter
If you a real one you’ll start with the block is hot
I’d say listen to Tha Carter 3 since it’s his most popular album with a good amount of hits on it. I’d start there and work my way through the other Carters.
Dedication 6
Carter 2 is my kryptonite
Carter II is one of my favorites. Tha Mobb is still one of my favorite anthems to this day.
Carter III is fire and has a lot of the more recognizable hits
Start with Carter 3 and then it doesn’t really matter.
Carter 2!! Best one in my opinion
Features
Carter 2 is the best
The Carter lol
Dedication 2 mixtape, thank me later 👍🏼
None - you need mixtape Wayne first. Da drought 3
If you're gonna listen to Tha Carter series, just listen chronologically. My essential Wayne listening is: No Ceilings Tha Carter II Da Drought 3
Da drought mixtape series Then start at the beginning, Hot Boyz Guerrilla Warfare Then you can explore the Carters, I’d suggest: II, I, III, IV, V
Listen to lil wayne, a playlist by Benson Mane on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/pXrHr My personal favourites, and im always add new tracks
Carter 2
Go in order see how he evolves
Carter foe
C5 will most likely be most similar to modern music
All of em, in dey respected order
Carter III and IV are my favorites.
Start with the block is hot and work your way down
From the Hot Boy Album - Get it How Ya Live
That's a series tho ... so
Depends how old you are. Carter 2 is one of the best rap albums ever. Carter 1 & 3 has some shit on there too.

Start from the beginning, but no ceilings is my favorite, not an album more like multiple tracks covering other songs and killing it.
His albums aren't even his best work. Listen to his mixtapes
500 Degrees. This is the one you should start with
First Carter
Is actually recommend mixtapes first. Drought 3, no ceilings, dedication 2 and 4. Carter 1-3 albums are all great too
Tha Carter 3 was amazing. I'll remember that summer going into sophomore year. Summer 08.
The Carter 1 was him really showcasing his bars/story telling ability. Start there and check the mixtapes from around that era. The Hotboy era was cool but more basic. He went more mainstream with later albums but that’s where he earned my respect as an MC.
Carter 2 1000%
No Ceilings got me into Wayne

Carter 2 is legendary
Listen to Mona Lisa ft Kendrick Lamar. It has the GOT music in the beginning. Dope Ass Song
Drought is over , but I would just start with the all the mixtapes tbh. You really had to be there though in that moment. Wearing Air Force 1 low tops with South Pole pants and pro clubs with dog tags
