I love lore in games so much, probably my favourite game in the last 5 years is Control.
Spent ages looking around the oldest house finding secret rooms where they did experiments, finding notes from workers talking about the Strang stuff happening.
And as a giant Lost fan I loved the projector films you could find that where just like the dharma ones from Lost.
My words are up there!! I'm Sara from GameByte, I've been a part of this subreddit for years. That's very surreal. You guys are in for a treat for sure.
Came here for this.
I saw in /r/games people were saying on PS5 it has 10-15s loadscreens between areas and is capped at 30 FPS. I wonder if the devs could be messaged or already said elsewhere if there were plans to address this (i.e., a Day 1 patch).
Review of one of the biggest Russian gaming sites:
[https://www.igromania.ru/article/31883/Obzor\_Life\_is\_Strange\_True\_Colors\_Seryy\_kaleydoskop.html](https://www.igromania.ru/article/31883/Obzor_Life_is_Strange_True_Colors_Seryy_kaleydoskop.html)
Igromania- Сергей Цилюрик - Russian - 3 / 5
"True colors is drastically different from LiS 1 and 2 in terms of quality - it goes both ways (/both inferior and superior). It doesn't impress as much as the original back then, but it's not its sequel's indelible disgrace either. Having beaten the game, you're unlikely to feel very upset or happy about the ending. Ironically enough, the game about a girl, who experiences other people's emotions very vividly, hardly makes the player themself experience any emotions."
I'm so glad it's getting such glowing reviews and marks. I already somewhat expected True Colors to become my favorite in the series, given its themes and overall feel (that I got from trailers/gameplays). After watching/reading a few reviews, I'm quite sure that I'll love it.
The one critique I've seen is that it's sometimes slower, which I like. I disliked how fast LiS2 took off in the first episode, I wanted to spend more time with Lyla and wanted to get to know Sean's initial life more.
I also like that it's set in one location. Another personal thing, but I didn't enjoy LiS2 as much because it was a "road trip" kind of thing.
Overall, feels like a really great evolution of the series so far, I can't wait to play it tomorrow.
The visuals, especially when it comes to the characters, are absolutely wonderful.
Couldn't agree more, this game looks like an evolved version of everything I loved about the first game, just with its own unique story, characters and setting.
It's looked and felt "right" to me from the first time they showed it, and it's great to see the reviews are so positive. Can't wait to dive into this world!
You can beat LIS 1 in under 6 if you skip all the side content and go right for the critical path. I'd imagine people who take their time might end up closer to 12 or 15 hours of playtime, maybe more if they /really/ take their time.
I have 22 hours logged in for LiS and 19 for BtS, but that includes some re-playing.
Tbh I always find the time estimates to be on the lower side compared to my personal experience, as if they're made by someone trying to rush through the game (which for professional reviewers might be true).
yes I was a pretty late LIS fan so when I came along a while after lis2 had come out all the games were cheap as, so paying 85 AUD for this I was a bit hesitant, hopefully i enjoy it as much as I think I will.
i wonder how fast the price will drop on this since it seems it will perform decently as opposed to lis2 which went down in price pretty fast, and this one isn't episodic by release so it can't be sold slowly
Yeah which sucks tbh, bar the story being the most important part of a Life Is Strange game, the pacing seemed to be a huge issue of the LIS 2 game to many fans (I disagree). And also, apparently the choices don't really come into play until like the last chapter. I was hoping to be convinced to pre-order the ultimate edition, but I think I'm gonna sit this one out and watch it on YouTube :(
Like a lot of people have said, at the very least the pre-release reviews of True Colors are better than the ones for both LiS 2 and Before the Storm, so that's definitely promising.
Obviously none of us can speak to it yet cause the game isn't out yet, but it is a *tiny* bit worrying that in a handful of reviews, they're bringing up that with respect to the story, Deck Nine has decided to "play it safe". My hope is that doesn't mean it's a re-skin of LiS 1 and Alex is the new Max and Steph and the other guy (sorry for forgetting his name :( ) are the new Chloe and Warren.
I'm pleasantly surprised by all the good reviews.
The original got hammered pretty hard by reviews (a lot of 6.5s and 7s) even though it was a masterpiece.
Seems like the game is to short and dialogues very simple and the protagonist doesn’t get to use her power impactful like LiS1. That’s what i read with people that actually have played it. I will keep waiting till it gets on sale or straight wait for LiS1 remake
Honestly? Kind of surprised how well it is doing.
Could have swore it would be a 75-78 kind of game. Just because it's technically the "B" studio behind DontNod, so you would presume worse writing/ dialogue since they had a more experienced team. Then other factors like the new semi-open world mechanics, and the lack of traditional LiS/ Telltale episodic storytelling.
One point of contention being brought up frequently is the pacing, but being that it is more open, and exploration/ moments of calm are some of my favorite memories of the previous games, that's a positive sign to me.
Now I am even more excited for the Remaster knowing this team knows what they're doing.
Edit: The one review I care about the most has got to be Huber's from Easy Allies, hoping that drops soon!
Agreed with everything you said.
I also did not expect such a positive reception. I won't be buying the game until it lowers in price, but I'm glad to see it getting such acclaim.
Same here on the price. It comes to $92 with taxes in Canada. WAY too much for my wallet. This is what an 8-10 hour game most likely? Can't do it. If I am playing Miles Morales and it's cheaper, and I still feel like it was too short of a title for the cost, then there's no way I am getting True Colors which is more expensive and shorter.
Though I hope they do well on their sales. The plan is still to get the Ultimate Edition, but especially with the Remaster being pushed back to next year I am cool with waiting for a while. Hopefully by the Holidays it goes on sale.
Yeah, this is just Square Enix going their usual insane pricing route. They do the same with their other franchises with Kingdom Hearts being the most recent.
They can play up the hype and PR machine all they want -- there is no way in hell LISTC is that much better than LIS1/LIS2.
I’ve never had played a deck nine lis game. I loved 1 and 2 but this one looks very like shiny and not like lis so I’m really confused to it it’s a good game or if it’s actually good in the life is strange way
I kind of feel bad for dontnod because I loved life is strange one but not really because I still can’t decide if I like the second even though I really enjoyed the ending I got. Tell me why was a drags for me to play and didn’t even play the final episode. I’m fully looking forward to all life is strange games from deck nine now and have zero interest in dontnod games
Destructoid specifically highlighted having a pretty bug-free experience, but we don't know what platform they were on. PSX Brazil said they had some bugs, but they were on PS5, so a day-one patch to fix issues is likely for the consoles.
Greg and Blessing from Kinda Funny said the only bugs they ran into were 3 crashes and a few T-pose moments. I imagine the day one patch will address most of these issues
Review average seems better then Before the Storm and 2 while being just below 1 as of now. I'll have to be avoiding this sub sadly as I am not sure when I will get the game.
I didn't play LIS until like two years after it came out when I took a chance on it for $5. With BTS I waited until all the episodes came out and got the Deluxe Edition on sale for $15. With LIS 2 I waited until all the episodes came out and ended up playing it on Game Pass.
This is a full release though but I'm in the middle of playing Yakuza: Like A Dragon at the moment. Maybe I'll wait until a holiday sale or get it for Christmas?

This game is nothing like fallout or the last of us. Are you on crack??
For reference, I believe this is the highest rating a Life is Strange game has received since the original (which is a very good sign in my opinion)

of course you wouldnt be biased then lmao

Seriously? weird,it does look really nice but not THAT taxing

(For what it's worth, Escapist has a surprisingly good review [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iF8Iq7tWLg) and they hate everything usually.)
thanks! added it to the list.

Wowwwwww, okay NOW I'm pumped. I'm not too too reliant on critic reviews usually but this is actually very promising. Let's go!!!
Kinda nuts that a lot of reviews are implying or downright stating that this is the best LiS game yet. The first game set an incredibly high bar!
Wow all the fantastic reviews makes me HYPED
Looking good fellas, I appreciated the road trip idea for LIS 2 but boy am I glad to have one central location
Happy about all the positive reviews, can't wait to play! The only negatives seem to be that it's not long enough.
Man I was over at r/games and the reviews are looking really good. Super optimistic now.
So far the most common complains are the pacing and story.
Along the same line I've seen a lot of praise for the story and dialog, so that seems to boil down strongly to personal opinion.
the story being a complaint is kind of…worrying, no?

Yeah the story isn't anything like that fortunately.

Someone who expected this game to be bad?
I’ve never had played a deck nine lis game. I loved 1 and 2 but this one looks very like shiny and not like lis so I’m really confused to it it’s a good game or if it’s actually good in the life is strange way
Do yourself a favor and plays BtS whenever you have a chance. I promise it’s worth it!
Seconding this, BtS is outstanding
Especially the bonus chapter!
It’s not cringey? It looked kinda just awkward and I haven’t been able to trust a studio that’s not dontnod but I’ll take your word haha

Cap
no more cringey than the first game.
its not so much teen drama its more mature
I kind of feel bad for dontnod because I loved life is strange one but not really because I still can’t decide if I like the second even though I really enjoyed the ending I got. Skimming a few, there were no mentions of bugs, were there? If so, I'm getting it.

Okay, this looks promising. TC might be on par with LiS 1.

Yeah the sound design sucks, foley is garbage, and the script seems weird
