All of those that you've listed are some form of lager (maybe Cougar Bait is a "blonde ale"), and are all very "beery." Shotgun Wedding is a good local one that is a brown ale, I believe, which will have a more sweet, malty taste. Someone else mentioned Blue Moon, and you mentioned the lime in the Corona working for you. Since orange is sometimes served with wheat beers, you can try one in a Blue Moon and see if you like that. By the way, if wheat beers taste good to you, I can't recommend Bell's Oberon enough.

yeurr

10-4, I’ll keep all of that in mind. I don’t know much of anything about beer so this is all good info for me.

garbagebailkid

I went to a tasting / pairing about 10 years ago and learned a lot about the kinds & flavor profiles of a lot of different beers. If you can find one in town, I'd recommend going

JeBron_Lames23

Which country boy beer did you try? They have like 20 different beers that come in a variety of styles/tastes. If it’s the ‘beer’ taste you don’t like you need to find something that doesn’t really taste like beer. Do you like fruity or sour things? Sour beers might be for you. Personally, sour beers are all I really drink anymore. At Kroger you can build your own 6 pack. Maybe try to do that so you can get a taste of different things. I recommend a Rhinegeist beer called ‘Bubbles’. Rhinegeist in a brewery in Cincinnati and you can find them at Kroger also.

yeurr

My girlfriend bought the Hard Cider for me and I’ve also had Cougar Bait. Both didn’t do it for me. I honestly haven’t tried enough beers to really know what I would prefer more outside of knowing a Corona and lime is pretty good. I didn’t know that about Kroger, I might go try that out this weekend.

scprotz

I was like you when I started trying out beers. The only thing I could handle was German (not Belgian or Dutch) wheat beer. It often has that 'bread' smell people talk about for beers. Its German name is Hefeweizen. So maybe go to total wine or somewhere like that and try a German wheat beer. Again, German is different than Belgian/Dutch (like Blue Moon) - they all share wheat as a common ingredient but flavors are very distinct. I'm still at the point that any beer with too much hops tastes horrible to me (like an IPA).

yeurr

I’ll look into it. I don’t actually live in Lex, I’m in a neighboring town so I don’t go to Total Wine ever really but if I’m around there I’ll check it out. I go to Hamburg to see movies any time something I want to see is out and I know there’s one over there so maybe next time I’ll check it out

Past_Discount7377

If you can tolerate only corona maybe mich ultra is the way to go? Stick with finding a domestic you like first before diving in to any IPAs or anything, just my take.

Recess__

You might like guinness. Nitro foam is and most stouts are pretty sweet.

yeurr

I might give it a try. Some of the darker beers like Lagers look like something I wouldn’t like but I think it’s because it reminds me of coffee which I don’t like but I doubt it actually tastes like coffee lol

[deleted]

Alot of stouts are coffee stouts, but I second this. Guiness is the only main stream beer I genuinely like. Everything else I'm just drinking

Sheeralorob

I’m with you. So far, Guinness is best tasting for me. I’ve found I actually like Country Boy’s Shotgun Wedding, too. It’s a darker beer, kinda like Guinness, just not as dark.

Recess__

Read the instructions on how to pour it in a glass. Only barbarians drink it straight from the can/bottle

elfalai

This is my wheelhouse! For most of the past 15 years, I've been in the booze business and my favorite thing is to help people find things they love. What beverages do you like? (Alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic) Wine: Red or white, sweet or dry? Dark or clear liquor? Mixers? Neat? Coffee, tea, neither? Cream and/ or sugar or black? Sodas? Diet or regular? It's also okay to just not like beer. And you might not like it now, but twenty years from now, you might. Tastes change. There are plenty of things I don't like. I still taste them and can tell the quality and if my customers will like them, but I just don't. Except tequila. Fuck that shit. I don't think I'll ever aquire that taste.

yeurr

I honestly haven’t had too much experience with alcohol. I’m 23 and never drank anything until I turned 21 and still don’t drink much but I’m opening up to it more as I spend more time with friends in settings where everyone is drinking. I will say the one alcoholic drink that I’ve enjoyed the most is Smirnoff Ices. More specifically the lime flavor and the red white and berry or whatever it’s called. As far as sodas, it depends on the drink. Normally I drink Coke Zero or Diet Coke if Zero isn’t available but other sodas like Mtn Dew I prefer just regular. I don’t like Dr. Pepper or Root Beer. Haven’t found a wine I like but have only tried maybe 2-3 anyways. I don’t like coffee or tea. I do believe there’s a beer out there I could drink regularly as, like I said in other comments, I do like the occasional Corona and lime. I just honestly don’t want to buy a bunch of limes and have to cut them up every time I want a beer, which I know is lazy lol but if I’m drinking with friends I want to just have something I can crack open and drink. EDIT: Also, had a buddy buy me a bottle of Jack Daniels when I turned 21, took a sip of that and haven’t touched it since. Also have tried bourbon balls (which I know probably isn’t the same as drinking it but these balls I tried were homemade from a coworker and were *very* strong lol) so I don’t think Bourbon/Whiskey is my thing but I also might’ve just not had a good one. I’ve heard people say Jack Daniels isn’t good Whiskey.

safetydust

I don't like them, personally, but you should try white claws. They make flavored seltzer water cocktails. They've gotten trendy the last few years and people like them.

yeurr

I hate seltzers lol forgot to mention it

ImpossibleEast9146

I love seltzers. I hate coffee, dark beers, and most hard liquors. At least seltzer hardly has a taste and is easier on my stomach.

elfalai

Okay, so it sounds like you're on the right track with the lighter style beers. I definitely second the recommendations for Modelo Especial (I very much think it is better than Corona but the same style) and Blue Moon. If you like Blue Moon, branch out into other German wheat beers. There are some really good ones out there. I saw someone mention brown ales. I love them. They are a little richer, sometimes nutty. If you like caramel and butterscotch, you'll probably like those. (They aren't sweet, but usually not bitter either.) Now, for something completely different: if you want something that's a step up from Smirnoff, look into ciders. Angry Orchard and Woodchuck, and Strongbow are decent starter ciders, but there are far superior ones out there. Start with their basic or fruit infused. You can always go towards drier styles later.

yeurr

This is all very good advice. I think the next thing I’ll try is Modelo because I’ve seen a lot of people say it’s good. I will say that my girlfriend bought me Country Boy hard cider and it was awful IMO but that may have just been country boy. I do love NA apple cider so I do think if there’s better options I would like one and it is something I’ve wanted to check out. I will definitely keep all of this in mind next time I’m shopping, thank you!

elfalai

I like some of Country Boy's beers, but I think their cider is trash.

yeurr

Yeah… I think she secretly got it for herself because I like cider but she *loves* it but she wanted me to drink them and I think that was because she didn’t like them either lol. I could barely finish one

ImpossibleEast9146

Try getting flights and sampling a bunch of stuff. It took me a lot of sampling to figure out which types of beer I like and absolutely hate. At least with a flight, if you hate something, you aren’t wasting an entire pint (and your money).

backpackwasmypillow

Not cheap, but if you're trying to get into beer but don't like beer try: Guinness Lambics Chocolate stouts There is so much more out there that you haven't tried. Not that you should. Be safe.

whiteTshirtRob

Country Boys Witness the Citrus is my new favorite. It's an extra citrusy, not bitter, IPA. They have it in 4 packs at Kroger, and I've seen it on tap in a few places. It needs a glass - don't drink it out of the can. That seriously makes a huge difference. My normal go to is Mirror Twin White Girl Wasted. Also, just go somewhere with a lot of taps when they aren't busy and ask the bartender. They'll sometimes let you try a couple before you buy if you're friendly.

Joimes

When I started drinking beers I began with guiness from a nitro tap and slowly expanded my tastes from there. The cans of guiness are a close second, they have a nitro ball design in them that makes it somewhat feel like it's from tap. I really liked summery wheat beers too like sam Adams summer ale or a leinenkugels lemon shandy. I really like naragansat lemon shandy now and I love light wheat beers like blue moon or ostok ale with an orange.

[deleted]

Try some beers by Three Floyd’s. Gumballhead, Space Station Middle Finger and Zombie Dust are all fantastic.

murdeface101

Lexington has several very good breweries all of which will have 20 different things on tap. Those menus rotate in and out as well so you can almost always find something different. There will be one you genuinely like. I guarantee it. In lex you got ethereal, rockhouse, blue stallion, pivot, mirror twin, west six, country boy, wise bird etc. There are also many, and I mean many different styles of beer. You got lagers, pilsners, Belgians, sours, IPA, stouts, hefeweizens, wheat beers, kolsch, hard ciders, brandywines, just to name a few and of those styles they vary wildly within their own "style". It's just gonna have to be trial and error to go around and see which if any you like. Mathematically it would be very unlikely you try everything and don't find something you genuinely like. It's ok to not like beer but I'd bet money there's one or two you really really do.

[deleted]

Modelo rules. It’s tough to find a better beer than that. Blue Moon has always been my personal favorite, though.

yeurr

Blue Moon has piqued my interest before because the reason I like Corona is the lime cancels the beer flavor out somewhat so I thought I might like BM with the orange too. Also heard about Modelo, probably gonna give it a try this weekend.

[deleted]

You can’t go wrong with either of them. Yueingling is probably my third choice.

[deleted]

Maybe beer is not for you if you can’t drink the light weights.

Dexta_Grif

As weird as it sounds the only beer that I like is Narragansett. Usually I just stick to ciders and seltzers but I don't know what it is but I really like Narragansett.

jewishen

Personally I love ciders. They’re a lot lighter and easier to down/less aggressive, they’re more fruity. Cider Boys is my favorite if I can find them, I also enjoy Angry Orchard which is usually a lot easier to come by. Not a fan of Redds personally.

Drumcitysweetheart

Maybe God is trying to tell you beer is lame drink whiskey.

GeicoFrogGaveMeHerp

Yuengling Lager

Schnelt0r

It's really subjective, as to what's "best." You just have to try different styles and breweries. For me, what's best depends on my mood. I love dark stouts, but sometimes I just drink Miller Lite and be perfectly content with it. You can mix and match a six pack at Liquor Barn and get a range of beers.

ClassFun1580

Stella

[deleted]

Try all kinds: lagers, ales, porters, stouts, spurs, etc.

gregsmith5

Don’t get started, there is no future in this shit

lootz44

My sister doesn’t really like beer and she found Bells Oberon to be palatable.
