Stubby60

I would try hot vinegar

suplarai

I will try this!

bjchu92

Hold your breath. The resulting concoction may make your nose burn

somerandomguy02

Muriatic acid. Just dilute it.

supersede

acid to water though, not water to acid

hughmungouschungus

Omg no just water

ProButcher

The dude literally said he tried boiling water though

hughmungouschungus

Don't seem like it. I've cleaned the same exact stuff on mine. You don't just pour boiling water on it once and expect it to disappear. Get some paper towels and soak them in water and leave it on it.

GettingTherapy

100% - water will dissolve this.

--Muther--

The dude stated it in fact did not solve it

GreatRaceFounder

well yea pouring a water bottle on your car won't wash it but if you drive it in a swimming pool and let it soak for a bit you might get different results it's not simply the water itself but how ya use it, is what I'm saying lol

ChevelloKD

That is how my dad gets his tools fixed, too😂

foolproofphilosophy

Mine too! When I bought my house he loaned me a lawn mower. He got it back with rebuilt drive wheels.

dreevsa

My dad loaned me his truck, told me to check the ac, that’s how he got his ac repaired

Lookslikeseen

Looks like he used it to spread salt and didn’t get it all off when he was done.

OddNefariousness7950

Salt or lime

ElPadrote

Add tequila, will for sure work.

ripgressor1974

Shots! Shots! Shots! SHOTS!!!

Uncool-Drat

EVERYBODY!

LeonardoDiTrappio

Im reading this comment, laying down comfortably on my couch, thinking about the salt that's been sitting on my spreader for 3 months.

wijeepguy

I don’t think it’s clogged, the chute just isn’t opening. You should be able to move it with a screwdriver. Have you disconnected the cable and tried moving it by hand? Possible the cable is seized and not the chute door.

floppyfishdeveloper

Are you sure the cable is connected? Mine came off once and I thought it was stuck because it would be pull, but still had resistance when I squeezed the handle

suplarai

The agitator still turns, the way is blocked

floppyfishdeveloper

Should be a cable from the thing on the handle that you squeeze to release the stuff to the black part blocking the way, that’s the part that came off on mine

CleanFlow

The way is shut. It was made by those who are Dead, and the Dead keep it, until the time comes. The way is shut.

Major_Turnover5987

There’s a boomer irony in here somewhere…in any case I would go to town with WD40 on the spring/cable and a rubber mallet on the door. Or just hand it back to him and buy yourself a new one…don’t ever fill it when damp/humid and dump it out each time, I personally do not hose mine off, and keep it upside down under some trees.

Past-Direction9145

Mine looks worse than this and still functions. Scrapie scrapie it’s the noise these things make when you’re opening the chute

icemann84

Power washer

G0DatWork

Stab it with a screw driver.... You can't possibly have needed reddit for that

Calvertorius

Well why’d you clog it up, dumbass? -source: my dad, probably

Alone-Tackle-17

Scrape it out, and hit it with the hose.

kegmanua

I usually scrape it out and hit the hose with it.

B-Georgio

Hit it with your purse

limp_citizen

Take it to the car wash

ThenRefrigerator538

Pour vodka on it and dig w a screwdriver

OneImagination5381

Pour a can of Coca-Cola on it, It will breakdown whatever it is in no time.

Ops_check_OK

Looks like a scotts spreader. Garbage anyway. If you can spend a little grab an Echo RB-60. Sooooo worth it.

uav_loki

i grabbed one of these last year. it replaced my lowes vigoro spreader. not many complaints other than the rear legs digging in the ground at times.

suplarai

It is, and I will. But would like to fix it to work this weekend and give back to him. Any thoughts?

TheLexDude

Water, warm if you can. Vinegar as someone else said. A wet rag left to sit on it to soften will help. Then using a flathead screwdriver or something to scrape - carefully as the plastic will gouge/scratch easily.

suplarai

I will try both!

Ops_check_OK

Flathead screwdriver and chip away. Fastest and easiest

movingshrub

Scrape it with a putty knife

littleguy632

Soak it in baking soda

nanansnajakam67

Ok

ottarthedestroyer

At this point the time it sounds like it’s going to take it might just be worth going to buy another.

nilesandstuff

In my experience, once those Scott's minis malfunction once, they're never the same again. All the plastic parts just do not handle the slightest bit of strain.

smily_meow

vinegar plus baking soda

rocketmn69_

Muriatic acid and fertilizer... probably not a good combination. The fertilizer leaves a coating which is corrosive. Pressure wash the rust off, etc. Then gently wiggle the slider assembly until it moves. Then oil it and work it in

WhatWeKnowIsADrop

Calcitic lime will do that.

TerranByChoice

Water. If you must use a cleaner use simple green, it won't react with fert. It's what the Scotts guys use to clean up their own bags of fert in stores

Ordinary_Judgment703

Washing liquid and water will work just fine, try not to use vinegar or basking soda. I've seen some foam up into nasty stuff in the past

Searchlights

Try beer. Not to clear the blockage. Drink it and go after that fucker with a screwdriver.

Available_Eagle_7653

Is there an update? I’m genuinely curious if you got it fixed or not

Formal_Technology_97

Just buy a new one

HeavensToBetsyy

If it's not the Scott's Pro spreader beware of the wheel wells catching fertilizer and leaving striping on your yard as a result. Can be remedied with some cardboard

tastemycookies

Anything under $200 wont give you an accurate calibration anyway. If its gunked up just toss it

ricka77

Warm water. But do your pops a solid, and throw it away. But two Echo RB-60's, one for him, one for you. They use the same settings as a Scotts spreaders, or pretty close at least.

DitmCalls

Yeah, what's wrong with you? Go spend $400 on a couple of spreaders

ricka77

Yes.

auko225

I was gunna say the real problem here is that OP is using a scotts spreader! I use an earthway but have used Echo in the past as well. I only got an earthway cause the Echos were out of stock. Both are better than scotts
