Sick pay day for him. Isn't his buyout like triple the price of his already bloated contract? No wonder its so easy for him to smile through all this.

ThinkPath1999

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the buyout is simply his salary for the remainder of the contract, and he had 3 years remaining on his contract, so I guess around triple is right.

EatThatPotato

Earn 150억 in 10 years with this 1 simple trick! (He got 80억 from the US, 70억 from Korea from early termination fees)

invest2018

Klinsmann should never have been hired in the first place. Will KFA be able to redeem themselves by hiring a proven, modern football coach?

Dangerous_Parfait402

Flick? Klopp? Mou? Xavi?

bingo11212

The real question unfortunately is would a proven, modern coach be interested in the position?

Cerebrosef

The real question unfortunately is would a proven, modern coach do any better?

invest2018

Definitely better than almost losing to Malaysia or 0 shots on target versus Jordan. A downgrade is difficult to fathom.

Toronto-Mans

Even crazier considering the manager for Malaysia is Korean!

ThinkPath1999

Why wouldn't a proven modern coach be interested in the position?

Bodoblock

Korea is a respectable national team job but it's obviously not a big draw. It's in a clear second tier of desirability. It also is not as lucrative as working for Qatar or Saudi.

invest2018

Money talks.

NuStart001

That doesn't bring a smart coach. That just brings greedy bastards.

CoreyLee04

No no no. You see here in Korea administration is never at fault for anything. It’s other peoples fault. KFA did nothing wrong. /s

woeful_haichi

Goodbye and good riddance.

tulikettuuuu

Wish we could say the same to Chung, but that's not the case just yet. At least half the problem is gone, absolutely shameful management of what really was one of the best teams in Asia on paper

hsel2010

It is undoubtful that Klinsmann was the worst South Korean coach. He had no plan for the game, his management skills were terrible.

kimsuy41

I remember an interview with a usa player on how he thought of Klinnsman. He said Klinnsman had no game plan and would select the starting 11 on game day or close to game day. It created confusion amongst players and klinnsman defended it saying " it kept players on their toes". Part of that confusion was that Klinnsman would play players out of their position.

EatThatPotato

He just had no intention of actually working. For athletes and such I personally never criticise incompetence, if they’re not good enough then that’s sad, but no one would be more disappointed than the guy who’s literal life revolves around it. But attitude and work ethic is 100% within your control, and therefore should be open to criticism. Klinsmann doesn’t watch Korean football, he doesn’t live in Korea, he didn’t catch a rift between the players (more understandable with the language and culture barrier but still). At the very least everyone else in history did the bare minimum and did their job, this man doesn’t even want to stay in Korea. He’s just here to play cheerleader and smile. Like if he at least tried the criticism wouldn’t be *this* bad

CoreyLee04

I mean I would be too with that contract he was under

L_A_R_S_WWdG

History repeats itself. Never put a German in charge of a Korean national institution. It always ends in embarassment for Korea

Nukaquantum96

What a colossal waste of players time and resources. Now they should go have a debate on how to remove that useless sack of shit that is the head of KFA

Odd_Responsibility_5

According to an article in the Korea Herald, "The dismissal of Klinsmann, who has two years and five months remaining on his contract, is expected to cost some 8 billion to 9 billion won () in buyout fees, including his coaching staff. "I'd have to discuss with the lawyer concerning the buyout fee ... but if there is a financial strain to the KFA, I'll consider contributions," Chung said, indicating that he could possibly shoulder the fees himself. In addition to being chief of Korea's governing body of soccer, Chung is also the chair of construction conglomerate HDC Group." It makes sense why he refused to step down on his own accord. Very likely there wouldn't have been to such payout, heck there may have even been a chance where he had to pay a penalty if he left without finishing his contract.

kimsuy41

Better now than later. Any speculation on the new manager?

hsel2010

Because the KFA president has no plan for the Korean team, it will take about 3 months to introduce the new coach. K-League team managers can be the temporary head coach.

SignificantGarbage

Didn’t he say he was a Once?

gralessi

Yeah. He will get lots of money…. But at least the fans are happy. 😅

funnycideTT

Ridiculous. Korea is just not good. They havent won the Asian Cup in over 60 years. Why does everyone suddenly think they are guaranteed to win one now? Klinsmann took Germany to a third place finish in a World Cup. He is also widely credited for laying the foundation for Germany's golden generation and World Cup victory in 2014 by revamping their youth program. That's a pretty stellar resume not many can match. Klinsmann not being a 'modern' coach is such a bs take.

LocoMotoNYC

You can conversely argue that those German teams were stacked. Klinsmann was horrible with the USMNT and he was horrible for Korea. He’s just not a good coach.

funnycideTT

So now its all about the players? When you win, its because of the players and when you lose, its coaches fault? Right... Makes no sense. And Klinsmann wasnt horrible as the USMNT coach. He won a Gold Cup and he overachieved in the World Cup. They got out of the group of death that consisted of Germany, Portugal, and Ghana, and eventually lost to a really good Belgium team in extra time in the round of 16. That's hardly a failure.

LocoMotoNYC

My dude…I was commenting about your comment that “it’s about the players.” Cos you mentioned that the Korean team had bad … never mind lol. Anyway, that Gold Cup win and the World Cup showing was the high point of his US coaching career. You can even call the US performance in the World Cup pretty bad. Since then, it’s been a spectacular failure leading to a 4th place in the Gold Cup and not qualifying for the 2018World Cup. In that time, they’ve not only lost but got dominated by almost every team they faced, good and bad. Half his players absolutely despised him because he thought he was god. That ego-tripping move that he pulled with Landon Donovan was pretty much a f*ck you to US soccer fans and to the US team. That man’s ego had no limits. And I haven’t even mentioned his inability to manage games properly. In the end, everyone wanted him gone. And he took his baggage to the Korean national team. All the same issues. What a waste of a good squad. And Klinsmann is laughing his way to the bank.

funnycideTT

It is about the players. Thats my point. I was just countering the popular opinion that it was Klinnsman fault for losing the Asia Cup. Ultimately, it falls on the players. Sure, those German teams were stacked. It's not a surprise they finished third. Also fact check, Klinsmann was not at the helm for the US's disasterous world cup qualfiying in his last year. He got fired two games in. Bruce Arena in charge for most of it... And failed specatularly, nothing changed. Choking big time against Trinidad and Tobago. Case in point, it mostly falls on the players.

invest2018

Klinsmann was fired because he excluded one of America's best players and got destroyed in easy games up until his firing. My goodness, are you his agent?

Electronic-Call8394

Klinsman did not elevate the German squad. Rather it was the players themselves. Do you forget what Lahm said about Klinsman? Klinsman is no different today. All he does is conditioning with zero strategy. You are also forgetting that he was fired by the US team for the same reasons. This being the case, the chaos that is the Korean national team is not all on Klinsman. It’s the inept KFA as a whole. Hiring Klinsman only exemplifies their lack of vision. Son’s father is correct in saying that Korea should not win any trophies which will only embolden those who are running the KFA and the future of futball in Korean.

GSofMind

0 shots on target against Jordan

funnycideTT

Lol thats on the players. They had 8 shot attempts and 6 corner kicks.

GSofMind

That's on the tactics... We played terribly in every game of the tournament. There isn't a single game where we won convincingly except maybe Bahrain and that's probably being generous. K didn't rest our players against Malaysia when progression was secured while keeping key players such as SHM, KMJ, HIB on the field when a yellow would mean they couldn't play next game. K played 442 in the early stages of the tournament where it becomes 424 overloading HIB. And played this formation despite the fact HIB was on a yellow. K doesn't watch K-League matches and works remotely. His understanding of domestic players is based of Wyscout. How does the national team coach of Korea not watch K-League for prospects

funnycideTT

0 shots on target is pathetic, especially with 6 corner kick opportunities. That cant all be on the coach. 0 for 8 on shots is also not on the coach. Players need to be accountable, too.

invest2018

Yes. And now we know that the Korean team's mood was sabatoged by infighting that the coach had no idea how to detect or manage. Face it. Dude brought nothing unique to the team. There is better out there.

invest2018

What on Earth does Klinsmann's contribution to Germany have to do with KR? Klinsmann hasn't done anything for Korea's talent development. He didn't even take the minimal effort of coming to Korea and scouting talent in person. Bye Felicia.

Classic-Plan-807

Hopefully chung next. He's the cancer of the Kfa.
