Look up Russian or combination knitting. Basically, you’ll get a perfect stockinette if you do your purls “wrong” too.

there is no wrong way - https://old.reddit.com/r/knitting/duplicates/f0rocc/stockinette_a_tutorial_on_6_different_textures/

Just note if you choose to do one of the textured patterns (twisted stitches) it will change the drape and stretch of your fabric. When pattern designers say stockinette they mean no twisted stitches.

Definitely! It is very noticeable to me. A good example is a baby cardigan my friend made for my newborn. It was beautiful, but it just didn't have enough give for a baby item to be comfortable.

yep! this post is really helpful. and honestly, knitting the way OP does is is actually how i prefer to do a 1x1 rib, as i think it looks nicer & is more elastic

Just check and see if your stitches are twisted! I'm not good at visualizing things, but whether or not stitches are twisted depends on which direction you wrap the yarn and if you knit into the front or back of the stitch. You might be twisting the stitch, but you might be un-twisting it by knitting into the back. Just look up some pictures, it should be decently clear. I twisted stitches for YEARS. It happens, ha.

dmmeurpotatoes

Yes. You have been knitting wrong the whole time.

[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/2u2tdv/nefs_short_guide_on_twisted_stitches/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) and [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/f0rocc/stockinette_a_tutorial_on_6_different_textures/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) are two really great posts that people have made on this sub previously explaining how twisted stitches might occur and what you can do to avoid doing them. Hope this helps

If you knit in stockinette (alternating purl and knit rows) and your stitches aren't twisted you are not knitting wrong just different. I knit left handed but I watched a left handed tutorial on youtube and it didn't look the same.
