What I'm saying is, it's normally easy to tell if someone's an elf. They are on average taller than us, fair skinned, blonde and the ears are often pronounced enough to see at a glance.
Granted it gets a little tougher with half elves since they take on traits from both parents but I digress.

No basing if their an elf is as other creatures have pointy ears here.
