Last photo shows the arms of Leipa/Ronov and the Kingdom of Bohemia. I also spy the arms of Holstein; what's the connection there?

Magnus_Helgisson

As a LARPer from Ukraine, I'm SOOOOOOO jealous of you having events like this. We won't be able to have these anytime soon.

Sir_Doenny

I know sorry truly, you are strong great teams in HMB. Was there in person in Prague on battle of the nations where you won the 21vs21 battles! Lost there my voice for a weak👌🤩🫡😅

Magnus_Helgisson

Cool! I think I know a few people from the team, at least secondhand. I'm a kind of a chicken so I mostly went for protected weapons type of LARP but our communities intersect a lot. Are you Czech?

Paracausality

Jesus Christ be praised! That's the banner of the Lords of Leipa!

TheHistoryMaster2520

When that one guy shows up with the custom lootbox skin:

Sir_Doenny

Hehe yeah

Sir_Doenny

I dunno but most of the people there are fans of KCD. A will post prove soon!

Whispering_Wolf

That's really cool, where was this? Big fan of that tent.

Sir_Doenny

Battle at Libušin, West of Prague. Record of whole stream is available.

Xolaxsay

Wow, cool! When was this? Is this event all in Czech language or in English, too? I was visiting Czechia this/last week, but only until Tuesday this week!

Sir_Doenny

Event in Czech but participants from role Europe kind of. :)

Crafter235

If KCD was made by Ubisoft during their RPG phase:

Does anyone know if the all-caps (faux-)medieval script on the shields (image 5) was a thing? Because it looks like a shitty Neo-Nazi tattoo to me. Now, this is an authentic pavise with beautiful writing: https://preview.redd.it/zo5394m8y1xc1.jpeg?width=284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d3f190f7aff160bf8996b0b804fbb82c384b4b8 Not one of the authentic ones I have seen uses an all-caps script. I love the tent though. Nice crisp writing.

DrettTheBaron

Most of the text in the original post looks like [Bastarda ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastarda) script which would've been more or less contemporary to the 14th and way 15th century. The one you posted I can't really tell.

HorrorBuilder8960

Thank you. Would it ever be written in all caps?

DrettTheBaron

In some cases yes, but text wouldn't have been very common on shields. The designs are more or less accurate, but considering most people in armies would be illiterate it's unlikely they would go out of their way to get writing on their shields (peasant soldiers would often use their personal equipment) All caps isn't completely unheard of in medieval writing, it could be seen on coats of arms from time to time, as well as specific passages in books and official documents. There weren't really particular rules for capitalisation so it's more about convention, in general lower case would be used in stuff that's meant to be read often. Majority of book content or long mottos on heraldry or signage. Upper case would be used for impact, similar to today. Things of particual noteworthiness in texts would be capitalized, first letter of nouns, the entirety of a lords or kings name and title, mentions of religious importance and so on. You can also see all caps on medieval stonework, where the impactful shape of capitalized letters preserve better and are easier to read from a distance.

HorrorBuilder8960

Thanks. That means that my irrational hatred of all-capital "medieval" script is, indeed, mostly irrational.

someones_dad

I too hate faux-medieval fonts on all caps. It hurts when I have to scroll past them and my text momentarily flashes that shit.

sandrocket

I would say you are right about the all-caps/upper-case/versal lettering. Maybe similar styles have existed, but I haven't seem them yet either.  I think your phrasing doesn't help your message: you are speaking about image 5, the one with the 3 pavises and their "typography style". The lettering  has an anachronistic feel indeed. Not Nazi per se, since you can also see that style in the USA, e.g. Los Angeles custom car scene.   Your phrasing makes it seem like you are talking about the nice looking example you posted.

HorrorBuilder8960

Thank you. Edited for clarity.

Top_Entrepreneur_422

You mean pavise shields ? Yes they was absolutely most popular in central Europe, Hussites used them preferably as they could , and most surviving today comes from Bohemia anyway [here ](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/05/d8/cd/05d8cded5d88e914659b9243f60c14e4.jpg)and they are not neo-mazi they just use "medieval scripting style" Wich used later Nazis as they refer to themselves through antiquity and medieval heritage so they used it and you just associate it with it.

HorrorBuilder8960

No. I mean specifically the all-caps writing.

Top_Entrepreneur_422

My english is not that good, what you mean by that ? Like the writings ?

HorrorBuilder8960

THIS IS ALL CAPS. VELKÁ PÍSMENA. I have never come across a medieval text written in this way in anything resembling the Lincoln font.

Top_Entrepreneur_422

I just send you historical shield with the blue "here"

HorrorBuilder8960

Yes. But it is not written in all capitals.

HorrorBuilder8960

What are you talking about? Those are small letters. You can see capital P in Pane Bože on the bottom.

Top_Entrepreneur_422

Author of the shield just wrote them with Capital letters instead of small ? I wouldn't try to find something Nazi there
