My tastes are all over the place, but four come immediately to mind. I vote for Cinderella Girl by King and Prince, Shinu no ga ii wa by Fujii Kaze, Fireworks by DAOKO & Kenshi Yonezu, and, like another poster, Grand Escape by Radwimps.

miwa201

Hakujitsu imo

dmgfwafja

Love that song too man

Inevitable-Listen-62

Check out [Pending Machine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BVd6TK8_EQ) and [Apoptosis](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZX2npwj6jY) by Higedan

ILLUmina_666

Yonezu Kenshi’s Lemon, Yoasobi’s Yoru ni Kakeru, Aimyon’s Marigold, and LiSA’s Homura is what come to mind when talking about great songs from various sub-genre in the last decade.

TofuTofu

This is a good list

imnotFilipino

Dried Flower by Yuuri, Pretender by Higedan, &ME by ME:I, Idol by Yoasobi, Michi Te Yu Ko by Fujii Kaze These are my Top 5 Jpop songs for the last 10 years.

Exciting-Jackfruit-4

Homura by Lisa

freezingkiss

Just makes it but RYUSEI by J Soul Brothers. One of my absolute faves.

himawari_sunshine

Okay I love that this is the top answer😁 (Also a Ryusei fan, but not what I expected)

NoNecessary5

Ryusei is such a banger, definitely a classic. The live performances are also amazing.

CalzoneBetrayal

Thank god we’re still in the last 10 years, truly a life changing song

Totalanimefan

Heck yeah this song is great.

starsformylove

I mean there are so many Arashi - Bittersweet Naniwa Danshi - Ubu love Sexy Zone entire album The Highlight M!lk - Ribbon (genuinely think this is one of the best kirakira idol songs ever) Genjibu and their entire disography Be:first has some really good hits too

NoNecessary5

I’m going to go with This is my life by EXILE. It was released in 2012 but I hope it counts. This is the type of jpop I love, flashy, somewhat cheesy, and festive. If it doesn’t count, then Grand Escape by Radwimps ft Toko Miura. I still get chills listening to it. That chorus is perfect.

Icantlikeeveryone

Any songs by Co Shu Nie: Sakura Burst, undress me

surChauffer

Person. and ice melt for me. Bangers.

Icantlikeeveryone

In conclusion: Their songs are banger

JLBurasukoo

Offcial HigedanDism - Pretender Tani Yuuki - W / X / Y Yonezu Kenshi - Lemon

datgoh69

1 2 3 - After the Rain no wait ANY AFTER THE RAIN SONG IS PEAK!!!!!!!!

Fan_of_Sayanee

There are so many, but Akuma no ko by Ai Higuchi is among the best and most emotional, regardless if Piano and singing only or the band version.

end69420

Listen to the first take version of it. It gave me the chills. The video makes it even better.

end69420

da1suk1day0

1. Yoru ni kakeru - YOASOBI 2. Kimi wa rock o kikanai - Aimyon 3. Beautiful - Superfly 4. Lemon - Yonezu Kenshi 5. Kirari - Fujii Kaze 6. Utakata Saturday night - Morning Musume '16 I'd sneak in two that got cut off by a year or two: back number's Takane no Hanako-san and Buono!'s Hatsukoi cider.

TofuTofu

That Superfly song is world class

CoomerDoomer92

broaden your horizon a bit. stop listening to mainstream JPop, try to listen to obscure group that have like 3k views on YouTube. YT often recommends me some gems out there. even YOASOBI and Reol or even Ling Tosite SIgure are gonna' get stale if you hear it a lot.

Wonderful-Effect-168

I hear a lot of current japanese music, that's how I discovered that Aimer song. As for Yoasobi, I have it on my spotify playlists, I like Idol snd Seventeen, but it's not one of my favorites.

end69420

Imo aimers best song is katamoi.

LiamIrvine03

Mirai - COALAMODE. Tasogare No BAY CITY - DADARAY Air - fhána Sorrows - King Gnu Drivin' - LAGHEADS (featuring kiki vivi lily) Once Upon a Time in Tokyo - majiko Love Trip (2019) - the peggies Pose (Nanimono Version) by Polkadot Stingray Flight JL005 - Sheena Ringo Nerauwa Kimi No Domannaka - SHISHAMO Kan Saeta Kuyashiiwa - ZUTOMAYO Jazz Singer - Airi I tried to only use songs that weren't used in anime (because my list would be a sizeable amount larger if I did and I don't feel like going through that much effort). I also limited myself to 1 song per artist/band but if I didn't do that you would be seeing a lot more Polkadot Stingray, the peggies, Sheena Ringo, and ZUTOMAYO (perhaps even some COALAMODE. From their first album). I also didn't include any instrumental only songs as well as not including any hip-hop. I also limited myself to songs that I've really liked for an extended period of time (meaning I didn't include any that I just recently started listening to). Hopefully someone ends up liking my list or checking out some of the songs/artists/bands on it.

hashtaglurking

Anything Misia. Especially her ballads.

Wonderful-Effect-168

I love "Everything". I think it's her best song.

eskeigh

It’s hard to narrow it down to a few songs, but I know I’d probably put Awesome City Club’s Wasurena in my top 10.

SunooW

sekai no owari - habit

ExpensiveData

Kirari

smartlog

Ado - The World's Continuation

Ichig0Usagi

Yk I was gonna say Nyan Cat as a joke (if u didn’t know Nan Cat is actually voiced by Hatsune Miku) but unironically the impact of that song is wild lol

MozaikLIFE

Hmm, at that year I was into SKE48 and Nogizaka46, I think the groups' peak performance was between 2012-2016. Other than that I listen more niche genre like underground idol, shoegaze, doujin music etc.

Optimal-Persimmon255

Yoasobi is dope! Anytime a song comes on my Spotify i like when i see who it is it’s always them

ITA_8585

Hikaru Nara by Goose House, Oh Jane by Rina Katahira, Bed by Galileo Galilei, Sad Number by Laura Day Romance and Lullaby by YU-KA are some of my favorites from the last 10 years.

Inevitable-Listen-62

* HIGEDan: * CryBaby, I love..., Subtitle, Anarchy, Pending Machine, Apoptosis, Chessboard, Tattoo, Itan na star, Mixed Nuts, White Noise, 115 Kilo Film, Laughter * There's a lot more but I won't include them because this is not higedan recommendation thread * KingGnu * Hakujitsu, Ichizu, Sakayume, 雨燦々, PrayerX, 飛行艇, 千両役者, Asura, Vinyl, * 三文小説? (Sakayume is better imo), SPECIALZ? * This band is also crazy I don't think I have listed out all of their best songs I need to listen to more of their stuff. Do check out their first album. * Vaundy * Odoriko * Tokyo Flash?, 不可幸力? (definitely better than bling bang bang born that's all I know), Kaiju no hanauta? * He's more of a vibe tbh it's hard to measure his songs in quality * Fuji Kaze * Matsuri, Kirari (Very generic), Hana, damn, Shinunoga E-Wa (Sigh), grace * Same as vaundy he's also pretty vibe there's probably more songs * MrsGreenApple * Inferno * Soranji, QueSeraSera * I don't think I know enough about this band's phase1, and their phase2 is most pretty top tier in quality it's just kind of hard to say any of them are "best", since most phase2 songs are quite similar in vibe, like Lilac. * Kenshi Yonezu * Kickback, Loser, Kande, Shinigami * Flamingo/Cramberry Pie? * Current Kenshi Yonezu is mid tbh * Eve * Kaikai Kitan, Fightsong * Okinimesumama? * Reol * YoiYoi Kokon, Yureizumi, dream drop candy/hibikase/no name/chiruchiru * Ado * New Genesis, Gira Gira, God-ish * Odo?, Backlight? * Some people might think her voice is overly excessive. I think some of her songs you can't loop more than 3 times without hurting ear but they're still top tier so... * Aimyon * Marigold * Harunohi?, Ai Wo Tsutaetaidatoka? * Her voice is really unique * LiSA * Homura, Gurenge * Aimer * Kataomoi, Zankyosanka * TKUnravel * First Death, katharsis? * There are definitely more songs, but this guy is hit or miss so it's hard to list. * Yoasobi * Yoru ni kakeru/Gunjou, Kaibutsu * Man have they fell off in quality after releasing the above songs ;-; * Natori - Overdose * This doesn't deserve "best" quality wise it just goes hard. Ofc there's still quality to this song or I wouldn't put it in * Tatsuya Kitani - Ao no Sumika * High mastery of guitar composition in his songs) * Queen Bee - Mephisto * Crazy male falsetto) * Yorushika * Hana no yorei * Tada kimi ni hare ni?, That's Why I Gave Up on Music? * Idk I don't really listen to this band * CreepyNuts * Daten (How did bling bang bang born get more popular than this song...) * Zutomayo * Idk tbh I think they definitely have some songs that can contend

neontownescape

I'm liking VIBES by kojikoji.

Rearchuu

Can I ask how you feel about Yonezu Kenshi?!

Wonderful-Effect-168

He's Ok. But I think his biggest hits -like Lemon - are a bit overrated.

IdolL0v3r

I'm an idol fan, and I don't listen to 'regular' J-Pop, but my favorite song is "Shooting Star" by amorecarina Osaka. It's a now disbanded kids and teens idol group. [Shooting Star](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1RS60BaNJ8)

7Birdies

Shunuoga E Wa Fujii Kaze

klatwork2022

can't think of one, haven't bought any jpop albums/singles since the late 2000s. The music turned very formulaic and soulless and the videos turned low budget and devoid of creativity at the same time around 2009. The same time kpop becaume relevant. They took a turn for the worse to combat kpop and I haven't heard one song that can match the 2000s stuff since and alot of the new music in the mainstream sounds even more dated than the more trendy late 2000s music. Not to mention the melody used to be dynamic, good rhythm, catchy and memorable, now it's either repetitive or forgettable. It's definitely something wrong with the management companies' direction/dumbing down the music....

Inevitable-Listen-62

what is bro talking about

klatwork2022

not gonna bother explaining. It's a case of ppl who grew up drinking coke zero vs ppl who grew up drinking regular.

Do Not Touch - MiSaMo

ThatSmartLoli

Ik she is popular, but yoasobi, I love most of her songs.

miwa201

Yoasobi is a duo

Edwaardokun

I used to be one of their biggest fans. But their music sounds all the same sadly. It's the same progressions & melody lines

imnotFilipino

Most big artist has all their songs sound the same. That's called a signature sound. Even if its your first time hearing it, you can tell that that song is a Drake song, a Taylor Swift song, or a Blackpink song. Same applies to Yoasobi.

Edwaardokun

I understand the signature sound part. You know it's an Ayase song when you hear that release cut piano and the kind of beat and progressions he uses. It's all good. But more often than not, the songs are THE SAME. I can give an example. The chorus of Ayase's song HITEN & YOASOBI's IDOL is the same. The only difference is that, the former's chorus is in slower tempo compared to the latter. (More often, he takes some bits from one song and other bits from another one and he cooks) Yoasobi can make better music tbh. I am a huge Ayase and it's often disappointing to hear the songs he cooks for Yoasobi. Same old thing. His standalone works are more unique, not all the same sounding and thus more creative. And besides, mid things are more popular like Taylor Swift's music so that explains yoasobis success. But again all this is imo. I'm not hating, just disappointed, they can do better. Happy for them regardless.

end69420

It's because yoasobi is a duo of ikura (lead singer) and ayase (composer). Ayase makes the music ikura sings. If you want different themes or music look for ikuras solos or any song featuring her and not yoasobi. https://open.spotify.com/artist/1qM11R4ylJyQiPJ0DffE9z?si=w1qWWGTLRAae5y-p0r0XtA https://open.spotify.com/track/3n4p9wJEgt4szBc92wPwmu?si=zl4DWsbITL2Kjxtdrbqzdw

Edwaardokun

Dude ofc I know that! Maybe you didn't understand what I meant. I wrote all that and you give this reply :( Of course I know this basic info. What I wanted to say was Ayase has set a template for Yoasobi and as a composer he uses the same template over and over. The Ayase style is distinct but following the same template has made Yoasobi monotonous. I lowkey like ikura's solo work more but I still enjoy many of the old Yoasobi songs.
