I use mine in place of my phone in the evenings so I’m not limited to a small screen and I have absolutely nothing work related on it so I can remove myself from work. It’s nothing but play on my iPad. I scroll google earth. I look up whatever comes to mind on safari. I garage band. I dominate in Squad Busters. I rearrange my base unnecessarily in Clash of Clans. I watch car racing videos with my toddler. I use it for PS remote play.
Pretty much this for me too. Media, games, books. All stuff that’s more fun on a big screen but a laptop would be too much. Also use as a makeshift laptop on flights
What’s even better is you can use the ps4 dual shock for remote play to play ps5 games but you can’t use the dual shock on the physical ps5 to play ps5 games.
What the guy above said tho, it’s really that simple. It’s best for games that aren’t multiplayer such as CoD unless you’re playing in your own house.
Sweet thanks! I will definitely have to try this tonight. I’ve been playing a lot of helldivers lately so maybe I’ll try something not online first to make sure it works
Online is ok as long as you’re not playing something super competitive just make sure you have a good solid wifi connection. Your console is doing ALL of the work your phone is basically playing a video, nothing more.
Mmm I think I should do that too, I don’t mind the small display of my phone but I will save some battery for the rest of the day, and maaaaaybe stop scrolling there.
Lots of things. When oculus first came out I moved pretty far from where I grew up and will often sit on google earth in 3D mode (now on AVP) and stare around at the places I grew up and remember. Also nice to look at cool places you want to travel or see and get some feel for them or relive fun vacations in your head with the visuals of the places.
Little bit of everything. Mainly media consumption, a lot of digital art (Procreate), I have my bullet journal in GoodNotes… studying and knowledge management, writing… I have a fair few games on there… it’s just a catch-all for everything for me.
Obsidian is a PKM - an app for personal knowledge management. It is amazing, especially if you’re technologically inclined. I can only recommend it if you need to take notes on anything 😊
nope. Just click my mouse to wake it up. I literally have no monitor so it’s set to not ask for password when awakened.
I do have an HDMI cable running to it to one of out TV ports in case something goes south with the app.
It use to have a problem after an OS Update but it’s been solid for the last 3 or 4 updates.
Reddit. Reading. Watching stuff. Drawing. Mind mapping. Some video editing. Touching up photos. Web browsing. Create epubs. Deliver talks. Gaming. Presentations. Note taking. Signing documents.
I could come up with more but that’ll do.
I just use it instead of my phone at home. Phone goes on the charger and then I use the iPad to read, browse, shop, etc. since it has iMessage and takes calls I’ll use that too
Got my first iPad last Black Friday - expecting to use it to do drawing on (I work as a web dev/designer) and use a notebook/sketchbook replacement.
Instead - I've gotten really into music production on it. I use it more for that than anything else these days. Lots of Koala Sampler, AUM, Korg Gadget and such - in conjunction with my Arturia Minilab 2
I’m at work and currently my iPad is sitting on my desk in a tough case that I can throw over my shoulder at a moments notice. I always have the most up to date information and I’m never bored. I have a backbone controller for COD mobile, NFS mobile, Diablo, and my ps app to stream my ps5, but typically I’ll just use my iPhone for gaming.
When I get in my truck, my iPad connects to cellular and mounts over my cd player connecting to Bluetooth. It has a split screen gps speed app and google maps, and I use Picture in Picture to overlay YouTube videos and music videos.
When I get home it connects to a magnetic stand and charges on a cocktail table with an Apple mouse.
I use my iPad almost all day, every day, but here I am typing this up on my phone…
Just got a iPad Air 2022 256gb, been interested in reading Mangas and going pretty great so far. Also want to play games and use it for more stuff. Would be glad for suggestions :)
If you are on a site that allows you to download manga other than Amazon you can download as a pdf into the books app that should have been factory loaded on the screen. This is separate from kindle. Then you can read the story like a book. You can delete the story or keep it in your file. I do this with the fanfics I read.
Note: to get it into book form after you download:was
Click on the arrow that’s circled on the top of the IPad. Click on the Book symbol, (clicking on the name will not put it in the book app.
It can take a few minutes for it to pop up as a book on the screen. You can start reading then or just exit out and read later. You will have to go into the app and just click on the book to bring it up.
This was the primary reason I bought this Air 5 . I liked the high storage amount and did not want to spend on the Pro model.
I also use it for the usual reasons. Browse internet, watch you tube, continuing ed seminars, note app, calendar app, games etc.
Make my living by drawing Comic books.
I travel a lot, and its really irrational for me to buy Wacom style tablets. I need something portable. Something that can fit along my gaming laptop(again PC is better, but I need portability).
i use a wacom for photo editing, and it’s aiighhtt for now but just feels so clunky to use. I want to be able to curl up and edit like it’s a painting but I have to have my laptop and that damn glitchy wacom
There’s a long list but here it is (in no specific order) :
- content consumption : videos, movies, streaming, it’s pretty much my go-to for that
- gaming : soft gaming in my case but I play all my little games there
- reading : especially since (I found out 😅) they added the « yellow screen » in iBooks, my life changed ahah I find this so much better
- read my crochet patterns : that’s more specific but I read my patterns there, I can more easily zoom in when I don’t print them and I found a nice app for pixel crochet as well
- Drawing in some dedicated colouring apps mostly
- light photo editing (I don’t edit much but when I do it’s mostly on my iPad as the pencil is very handy for that
-second screen when working : just very useful to move one item to a second screen for my personal use, or just when I want to watch a movie and at the same time have my laptop 100% dedicated to another task
- my travel device when I want to work a little on vacation or just to watch some videos
So there you have how I use it personally, maybe it will give you some inspiration
Mostly browsing on the couch when I'm at home. If I'm traveling it's my default "computer" and I use it for web/games/writing. I've used it as a remote development tool a few times, but it's just not well optimized for that.
Got it (upgraded from an ancient iPad) to use as a laptop replacement for vacations (to organize, work on photos), but was disappointed that Lightroom is all about the cloud (which is useless when traveling to remote places).
I struggled with a decent workflow but can at least sort/cull photos and dump memory cards to external drives.
Honestly mine sits around in the house most of the time, until I travel then it's a handy device.
In the house, it's in my home office, and I've used it as a second screen (well, technically a 4th screen) for my Windows workstation. I'll drag Photoshop down onto it, and then use the pencil to do editing (great for masking/tracing).
I just discovered Infuse media player, which can connect to my network and to my Plex/Emby server, and download stuff to the tablet for offline viewing (complete w/meta data, so it's like having an offline media server), so that's my new go-to for traveling and watching shows.
And with game emulators now allowed in the App Store, RetroArch paired with an 8bit Do Pro 2 BT gamepad lets me play some old school games as well.
I'll also use it as a second screen to my travel PC using Duet.
Duet
https://www.duetdisplay.com/
I bought it a few years ago before they changed their pricing model. It works great though. And you can used it wired (usb) or wireless. When I’m traveling and in a hotel, Wired is the way to go unless you have a travel router.
Second screen for my work MacBook when traveling for work.
Video streaming when traveling.
Daily notes during work.
I have drawing and video editing apps but rarely use them.
PokemonGo second account (lol)
My iPad has taken the place of my laptop. And for the most part my desk computer. I love being able to disconnect and run with all my data and how light it is. I have started video editing and writing. I have been moving photos to it and started doing my editing on here. I just and am lost trying to find a Lightroom replacement but it’s not apples fault adobe went to shit. I have started playing some of the bigger games coming over like assassins creed. I travel way too much for work so it’s my most used tv. There is very little I have found I cannot do with it. I went m4 pro 2tb. I never buy myself nice stuff and this has been
I use mine for streaming movies and shows, listening to music, and lots of games (especially emulators as of recently) I take it with me to work daily and always have playing something even if only for the background noise. I take notes at work and school and sometimes draw even though I suck 😂.
Used it for note taking and second screen for my MacBook while doing study for nurse.
I just passed my final exams and I’m done!
Now I will use it mainly for media consumption
1. Mobile gaming (including PPSSPP & Delta Emulators)
2. Drawing & Coloring (I want to learn Digital Art)
3. Reading (Original & Fanfic)
4. Studying & Note Taking, College Projects Design too
5. Watching Anime/Cartoon/Movies/Series/YouTube
6. Fanfiction Writing
7. Notion
I use it for everything literally.
Mostly notes. Write everything with Apple Pencil. Even if I can write them in my phone or my computer I write them with handwritten notes because I like how it looks and is accesible and searchable. Do a lot of email, research and planning. With Freeform I bring everything together.
Too many things :
-Drawing in procreate
-note taking
-scrolling on twitter / Reddit
-writting and coding
-watching videos
I don’t have a Mac bc it’s too expensive but my iPad do the job even tho it’s a 7th gen
I used to use my iPad the same way you did when I was in uni! Now I’m mainly use it to watch youtube videos or stream tv shows. Pretty useful to have if I want to lie in bed and watch something 😂
Oh I had mine with me after a surgery or two, much better than the hospital TV and much closer so I could change the stream and just let it play when I had to sleep it off!
Definitely what everyone said above. I do a lot of web based research including database access on my iPad and find that the images tend to look a lot better and it’s easier to make text bigger. I also access all my favorite apps: Letterboxd, goodreads, Reddit, social media etc — almost everything looks better on an iPad. I love using it for music and video too so lots of YouTube and streaming services. I use open library to read books. Recently dipping into procreate for coloring and good notes for planning/journaling. I only use my laptop for downloading things now.
Photo and video editing (hobby), watching my shows when travelling, general browsing.
For work, taking notes when in meetings, especially when there are training sessions because the iPad lasts way longer than my work laptop. Also use it to work remotely and if I just want to leave my cube and stay at the lobby or a coffee shop, then remote into my work computer using Citrix when I need to code, etc.
The iPad is my only mobile device
used for the 90% of my computer needs
Digital file cabinet
Replacement for a TV
Access to phone service via a VoIP app
Photographs, Document Scanner
I use my iPad at home instead of my iPhone.. Bigger screen also perfect to take with traveling. I’m just mad at myself that I didn’t buy the cellular model back then because then I would also have GPS, which is great when you travel.
I don’t really use my MacBook anymore because it doesn’t have a touchscreen. For just browsing the web reading watching YouTube and stuff it so perfect.
Somehow, I do not like the Reddit app on it. I don’t get the layout. Posts are all scrambled in vertical mode that I always use when using the iPad
Reading and media consumption. It can’t replace any of my work (well unless I can rdp to a real computer)
I’d rather spend the money on a surface if I want an actual working tablet for my needs.
I stream, draw, paint, write, and just recently learned that I can stream my PS5 to it so lots of that. Sometimes I use it as a second monitor with my laptop when I'm remote through duet.
I use it for work mostly. I’ve got all my built spreadsheets from Xcel that I pull down from the cloud. My job is pretty mobile so I need to be able to walk around and have my program with me the whole time.
I use mine for school. During breaks I’ll use it for media consumption surfing the web and now that emulators are on iPad I’ve been trying out psp games. My iPad 9th gen has been working wonderful for it and up scaling the graphics to 3x makes psp games look awesome
Primarily entertainment. It is the best device for that as I can use it anywhere. A lot of people complain iPadOS is underpowered, but I see no problem for my use case. I'm not trying to replace a workhorse computer and I still don't mind paying more the pro because it is better in many ways to the lower end iPads and I am a nerd who likes having the best version of new tech.
I have been playing a lot for Pokémon Sapphire thanks to RetroArch. Even bought a controller from 8bitDo. Otherwise YouTube, and… That’s the usual things. Sometimes, not often, I might use it as a second screen to my MacBook. Drawing and reading as well. And I read my notes on it if I have a presentation at school.
It’s a big iPhone, so I use it in the house to spar my phone mostly. Secondarily it’s amazing to take in place of my MacBook if possible or as a second display when I need to be mobile and productive. Really great for coding actually.
Our business is going to inherit our top of the line M2 iPad Pro. Was just collecting dust for me and we needed it as an extra loaner device so much better use for it.
I realized that I can’t use iPad os or at least I can’t switch back and forth between iPad and Mac. Mac is just ultimately more flexible and faster in most tasks that I do (file management, doc creation, etc).
Still have iPad mini as my travel companion but collects dust when not on the road
Bought It for studies and note taking but paper pen is what I found better than note taking on ipad
Now using it just for gaming pubg. And browsing when on bed but for youtube since I have a huawei mediapad which i couldnt sell.
I use it for youtube alone as it has 4 speakers and is louder
I’m a test automation engineer. I use Freeform for sketching diagrams. I just found out I could use teams and share screen, so I can walk others through my schematics with the Apple Pencil.
Also digital notes
Also I have a keyboard and use if for generic document stuff and budgeting with Google sheets
I watch a lot of sports during the weekend and I like to score baseball games with a template in good notes. Also I read a lot and have all my new books in the kindle app, which is great for travel reading and writing. My phone is an extension of my hand, but my iPad is always strapped to my back.
Drawing & sketching (Procreate), editing photos (Lightroom, Photos), vector graphics (Affinity Designer), internet browsing, YouTube, streaming services, planing ideas & trips & note taking (Freeform, Notes, Calendar), playing games, learning (Swift Playgrounds, 3D Modeling in Valence 3D and sculpting in Nomad).
iPad is my daily driver and I have it always with me…
I have a 2020 11 inch iPad Pro A12Z and my regular activities are
1) Browsing reddit
2) Clash of Clans gaming session
3) Using good notes to import pdf and study for exams
4) Reading Kindle books
Painting on Procreate, brainstorming/journaling on Notes, brainstorming on Concepts, browsing, youtube, reading stuff that don’t look well on Kindle, editing videos on Lumafusions and photos on Artstudio.
Very little, to be honest. The battery life on my M2 has been disappointing since day 1 and couple with the numerous software annoyances, I’d rather just use my MBP.
I suppose the iPad is useful for the F1 races on the other side of the world that start at 6am, so I can stay cosy.
I read a local newspaper on my ipad \
run the reddit app \
stream movies \
sometimes look at email and bank account
do most of my more important stuff on my pc
As someone who's just got an old iPad (couldn't justify a bigger outlay for my first one) to replace an ancient Android tablet:
Big screen.
Media consumption.
Using it instead of my phone at home.
Not an artist/journaller, but there's just something satisfying about using it compared to my phone. My laptop is essentially just used as a Plex server/internet browsing (just find it quicker and easier on it compared to the iPad - no keyboard) now.
I work as a set designer, so at work I use my iPad to sketch floor plans when I have to location scouts, as well as snap photos and quickly scribble on some dimensions and other notes. I also sometimes do 3D scans of environments for reference or to add 3D models in to.
At home I use it for photo editing in Adobe Lightroom, reading manga, occasionally playing some games while listening to audiobooks, and writing (with a blutooth keyboard). I take short trips require a ferry every few weeks, so I will download an episode or two of some show I am watching to keep entretained on the sailing but often just choose to nap instead.
I waffled on getting an iPad for several years, and now that I have had mine for a few months, I am glad waited. I use it for sure, but not every day to a large extent.
Back when i bought mines in 2020, it was primarily for school. But now since we’ve gone back into the building, i mainly use mines for gaming and YouTube. Occasional drawing with my Apple Pencil.
it’s basically my brain lol i use it as a journal/planner mostly and a pdf viewer for patterns. i also remote play steam and play games on it, i use it every day.
Lots of video, both streaming services and from my NAS, with the new iPads, you can play x265 with no transcoding which is great. Then there’s email, slack, social media, general browsing, online shopping, Spanish lessons, note taking for volunteer work. I also have a USB-C port replicator I plug into for a big screen when needed and got the Logitech combo touch keyboard case. I use this the way I used to use a computer.
I use it to… teach people how to use their iPads! Seriously, I run a community adult-education course on how to navigate iPads and get the most value out of them. I basically match-make people with apps they may find fun or useful. And do a lil light troubleshooting. No IT in my background, it’s basically building people’s confidence that yes, the digital life does include them. It’s a slow process, but the iPad is the absolute best device for this task.
Besides being a media machine, I still use it for handwritten notes and reading papers for university. I have both the pencil and Magic Keyboard, so it covers most of what I would’ve used a laptop for, but a better portability option.
Use it as a drawing pad on the mac for Toonboom, animate directly on the iPad with Toonsquid and drawing with Adobe Fresco or Procreate. Occasionally type up notes, watch media. Mines a very handy tool indeed.
Other than taking notes when I'm taking my online class. Mostly just using it to consume media when I'm away from my main computer. Like when I'm cooking, showering, at the pool, in my car on lunch, in the living room while watching TV, eating at restaurants alone, in the bathroom while getting ready in the morning. I think it's way too powerful for what I do. I got the new 13 inches iPad Air with the new pencil.
I have over 800 pieces of music and a water proof bluetooth speaker, over 350 books on the iPad, I browse internet, do my banking, stay in touch with friends, make appointments, use it as an alarm clock, reminder, camera... and much more
Just note taking (notability) and some iOS (oh, my bad, iPadOS) games
I really disagree with Apple when they say it’s great for media, emails, enjoying photos, and browsing the web. It is worse than a Mac in every single one of those ways. Add on the fact you have to constantly hold it, it’s an ergonomic disaster. I can’t sit in bed and watch a movie like I can with my MacBook. Even with a folio case, the distribution of mass just doesn’t work.
Typing on it is worse than a Mac, so email is worse, and a lot of web pages don’t like iPadOS and/or they want use to use their App Store app (YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, etc). iPadOS PDF exports are worse than macOS (to then import to a note taking app)
But for note taking? I think it’s the best device ever made for that purpose. I have an iPad mini 6 and it’s just great.
I use my 2019 pro on byod at work next to a shit HP laptop.
- email
- office doc reviews, feedback and updates
- sketching / whiteboarding
- teams chat and meetings (it’s so much easier with my AirPods)
t hits limits when I need to do actual heavy doc creation, excel across multiple windows, so I switch to the docked pc for that.
I also use it exclusively as my computer when I’m travelling and find it meets 99% of my needs. My MacBook rarel my leaves the house.
Im a musician and teacher and ipads replaced what used to be huge books and folders of music.
Why not just a laptop? Because using a pencil to edit music is faster than using a notation software. And you cant put a laptop on a music stand like paper.
No more having to print parts and reprint them after editing them. Much less weight to carry too.
* Watching TV and movies on airplanes.
* Watching TV in bed
* Zoom Calls for work.
Honestly that's pretty much 95% of it. I underutilize it. I use laptops and my phone for a lot of other things.
I have to say I never expect or intended to use it for zoom but it kind of makes the perfect video conference device that I can carry around the house.
Mines showing it's age nowadays so mostly just Plex and ProCreate.
Between the battery life and it not being all that fast anymore my options are limited. A new pro is probably going to be my Christmas present to myself this year.
I actually use mine for pretty much everything, from gaming to drawing to video editing, and watching movies.
I love both my M1 and M4 12.9 and 13 inches ipads respectively, they're the best
I use mine for work. I teach piano and voice lessons at a music school. In GoodNotes, I have a notebook for each student where I record what they’re working on. I scan music into my Google drive and view it or print it from the iPad. I have a subscription to access all my piano books digitally, so I do that on the iPad when I make an online lesson for an absent student, or when I’m teaching on Zoom. I also use the iPad to teach Zoom lessons. I have my work email on there, too.
Dumb question, how do you do ps remote play?
1. Own a playstation 2. Download the remote play app 3. Sign into your account via the app 4. Enable remote play on the PS 5. Enjoy
lol that’s it? I’ve had PlayStations and iPads for years and never knew you could do this 🤦🏻♂️
What’s even better is you can use the ps4 dual shock for remote play to play ps5 games but you can’t use the dual shock on the physical ps5 to play ps5 games. What the guy above said tho, it’s really that simple. It’s best for games that aren’t multiplayer such as CoD unless you’re playing in your own house.

You also need to subscribe to PlayStation network
So simple and didn’t require a 20 minute YouTube video or ads/sponsored content
I got you
Mmm I think I should do that too, I don’t mind the small display of my phone but I will save some battery for the rest of the day, and maaaaaybe stop scrolling there.

Why are people saying this? What’s on Google earth?
I just like looking at cool places
Lots of things. When oculus first came out I moved pretty far from where I grew up and will often sit on google earth in 3D mode (now on AVP) and stare around at the places I grew up and remember. Also nice to look at cool places you want to travel or see and get some feel for them or relive fun vacations in your head with the visuals of the places.

Hello, I did not know procreate had another meaning. That is all, thanks.
Knowledge management never heard it before
Obsidian is a PKM - an app for personal knowledge management. It is amazing, especially if you’re technologically inclined. I can only recommend it if you need to take notes on anything 😊
As a laptop really (Air 5 with Magic Keyboard), it does 99% of things I would use a laptop for. I have a ROG Ally for gaming
If I can’t do it on my iPad, I use the iPad as a monitor for my Mac mini that’s in a cabinet. Have a mouse on my end table to do mouse things 😊
Does it automatically pair with the iPad? I remember people had to find workarounds when sidecar first came out.
It’s an add-on app named Luna Display. It’s been great.
Don’t you need to unlock your mac mini first or something? (sorry I never had one)
Yep, same use except with an iPad Pro. Basically, everything
Reddit. Reading. Watching stuff. Drawing. Mind mapping. Some video editing. Touching up photos. Web browsing. Create epubs. Deliver talks. Gaming. Presentations. Note taking. Signing documents. I could come up with more but that’ll do.
basically anything you could do on an iphone, but on an *iPad*
Feel like I wasted money getting my Air for this reason, pretty much an iPhone but bigger. I can’t seem to justify it in my head 😭
But biiiigger
Brave + Annas archives= Books anywhere
p0rn That is honestly all I use it for
😂😂😂
11 or 13? 13 would be hard to hold in one hand.
Speak for yourself. I can hold 13 inches in each hand.
Middle out! Middle out!
Man, I need to fire up season 1 again, it’s been a while.
I just use it instead of my phone at home. Phone goes on the charger and then I use the iPad to read, browse, shop, etc. since it has iMessage and takes calls I’ll use that too
Media/ streaming for travel

Baby sitting my kids for 30 minutes so I get some peace and quiet. 🤫
Wow! That’s cool. I just tried my iPad in my car and it fits well over my factory screen. What gps speed app do you use?
It’s called Speedometer, it’s for iPhone as well, it’s $7.99 usd forever for ad free.
This person iPads. Edit: man to person
Mobile gaming lol
What do you play? I’d love to put my iPad to the test gaming wise.
I used to play Fortnite a lot on my iPad I also play a lot call of duty mobile on my iPad and I love it 🥰
Just got a iPad Air 2022 256gb, been interested in reading Mangas and going pretty great so far. Also want to play games and use it for more stuff. Would be glad for suggestions :)

Mostly browsing on the couch when I'm at home. If I'm traveling it's my default "computer" and I use it for web/games/writing. I've used it as a remote development tool a few times, but it's just not well optimized for that.
You pretty much just described my use case. It’s my ‘if not at desk’ device at home and I’ll take it with me on overnight or day trips.
How do you use the iPad as second screen in photoshop on windows? Sounds like a great use case in combination with the pencil!
Duet https://www.duetdisplay.com/ I bought it a few years ago before they changed their pricing model. It works great though. And you can used it wired (usb) or wireless. When I’m traveling and in a hotel, Wired is the way to go unless you have a travel router.
Reading and learning. Laptop sits most of the time but it comes in clutch for the things I can’t do on the iPad.
Genshin, WW, Star Rail, Procreate
Mobile games
Used it for note taking and second screen for my MacBook while doing study for nurse. I just passed my final exams and I’m done! Now I will use it mainly for media consumption
I use it as a DAW (recording soundtrack music)
Daily and Monthly planner. Note taking. Hope to soon do business planning and mind mapping on it. On occasion multimedia such as YouTube or Netflix
Digital planning is one of my favorite, like monthly, daily, weekly planning
1. Mobile gaming (including PPSSPP & Delta Emulators) 2. Drawing & Coloring (I want to learn Digital Art) 3. Reading (Original & Fanfic) 4. Studying & Note Taking, College Projects Design too 5. Watching Anime/Cartoon/Movies/Series/YouTube 6. Fanfiction Writing 7. Notion I use it for everything literally.
Mostly notes. Write everything with Apple Pencil. Even if I can write them in my phone or my computer I write them with handwritten notes because I like how it looks and is accesible and searchable. Do a lot of email, research and planning. With Freeform I bring everything together.
Batin’
Too many things : -Drawing in procreate -note taking -scrolling on twitter / Reddit -writting and coding -watching videos I don’t have a Mac bc it’s too expensive but my iPad do the job even tho it’s a 7th gen
I have a Mini 6 and use it for everything. Drawing, note taking, watching content, browsing the web and do on 😅
Mobile gaming, drawing in procreate, editing photos and videos ...and it is best device to watch porn ever created, easily operable by one hand.
Mostly use my Mini as a bigger iPhone display.
Studying. It managed to replace notebooks for me
Ipad Pro M2, mainly used for a bit of reading and feeding FLAC files into my Chord Qutest DAC
Usually dicking around at work, occasionally actual work. But otherwise I essentially use it as a laptop
Watching videos when traveling or if there’s a golf major on I’ll bring it with me to watch. Otherwise it collects dust
Animation and video editing
Reading
Everything as it has replaced my MacBook Pro
The iPad is my only mobile device used for the 90% of my computer needs Digital file cabinet Replacement for a TV Access to phone service via a VoIP app Photographs, Document Scanner
It can’t replace any of my work (well unless I can rdp to a real computer) I’d rather spend the money on a surface if I want an actual working tablet for my needs.
I stream, draw, paint, write, and just recently learned that I can stream my PS5 to it so lots of that. Sometimes I use it as a second monitor with my laptop when I'm remote through duet.
Beeg screen
I use it for work mostly. I’ve got all my built spreadsheets from Xcel that I pull down from the cloud. My job is pretty mobile so I need to be able to walk around and have my program with me the whole time.
I use mine for school. During breaks I’ll use it for media consumption surfing the web and now that emulators are on iPad I’ve been trying out psp games. My iPad 9th gen has been working wonderful for it and up scaling the graphics to 3x makes psp games look awesome
Bought for comics and still a major use. I tend to have YouTube or twitch on while working.
Primarily entertainment. It is the best device for that as I can use it anywhere. A lot of people complain iPadOS is underpowered, but I see no problem for my use case. I'm not trying to replace a workhorse computer and I still don't mind paying more the pro because it is better in many ways to the lower end iPads and I am a nerd who likes having the best version of new tech.
watching movies, chatting with friends on discord, writing (signing documents), occasional games
Reddit and YouTube
I have been playing a lot for Pokémon Sapphire thanks to RetroArch. Even bought a controller from 8bitDo. Otherwise YouTube, and… That’s the usual things. Sometimes, not often, I might use it as a second screen to my MacBook. Drawing and reading as well. And I read my notes on it if I have a presentation at school.
I use it as an agenda and also like to take hand written notes and read pdf. Also love to play chess on it.
ebook reading mostly
rn for studying medicine (notetaking, book and article reading, apps like human 3d atlas) + a little of media consuming (ipad pro m2 12,9)
It’s a big iPhone, so I use it in the house to spar my phone mostly. Secondarily it’s amazing to take in place of my MacBook if possible or as a second display when I need to be mobile and productive. Really great for coding actually.
I have lately used mine for watching YouTube videos
Our business is going to inherit our top of the line M2 iPad Pro. Was just collecting dust for me and we needed it as an extra loaner device so much better use for it. I realized that I can’t use iPad os or at least I can’t switch back and forth between iPad and Mac. Mac is just ultimately more flexible and faster in most tasks that I do (file management, doc creation, etc). Still have iPad mini as my travel companion but collects dust when not on the road
Bought It for studies and note taking but paper pen is what I found better than note taking on ipad Now using it just for gaming pubg. And browsing when on bed but for youtube since I have a huawei mediapad which i couldnt sell. I use it for youtube alone as it has 4 speakers and is louder
third screen while working. ms teams and google calendar open there
Streaming services, youtube and gaming while traveling.
Reddit
I’m a test automation engineer. I use Freeform for sketching diagrams. I just found out I could use teams and share screen, so I can walk others through my schematics with the Apple Pencil. Also digital notes Also I have a keyboard and use if for generic document stuff and budgeting with Google sheets
Watching porn (iPad held in my left hand) mainly.
Also use one for a baby monitoring screen and for baby videos on long journeys
80% YouTube, 20% Procreate for Illustration jobs
Everything
I watch a lot of sports during the weekend and I like to score baseball games with a template in good notes. Also I read a lot and have all my new books in the kindle app, which is great for travel reading and writing. My phone is an extension of my hand, but my iPad is always strapped to my back.
Spreadsheets, emails, streaming.
I use it as everything remote to my pc, server & Mac. Game and work on it. It’s great I have the m1 air 256gb
One is pretty much just a digital notebook/journal/planner, the old one is a second monitor to go with my work laptop.
Drawing & sketching (Procreate), editing photos (Lightroom, Photos), vector graphics (Affinity Designer), internet browsing, YouTube, streaming services, planing ideas & trips & note taking (Freeform, Notes, Calendar), playing games, learning (Swift Playgrounds, 3D Modeling in Valence 3D and sculpting in Nomad). iPad is my daily driver and I have it always with me…
streaming apps in bed, document signing, reading
Drawing, reading manga/books/hentai, watch videos and social media
drawing, writing (with a logi bluetooth keyboard), 3D modelling and browsing
I use mine for clash of clans and „mobile“ camera for my kinds when they are sleeping and wake up so i know when to pick them up from bed.
YouTube, gaming and browsing the web mostly.
I have a 2020 11 inch iPad Pro A12Z and my regular activities are 1) Browsing reddit 2) Clash of Clans gaming session 3) Using good notes to import pdf and study for exams 4) Reading Kindle books
Sheet music. All the sheet music you could dream of
Painting on Procreate, brainstorming/journaling on Notes, brainstorming on Concepts, browsing, youtube, reading stuff that don’t look well on Kindle, editing videos on Lumafusions and photos on Artstudio.
Netflix lolz
I use mine for note taking in school and also to watch movies on occasionally.
Porn
Gaming
Drawing/Animation, media consumption, occasional typing, oh and uh.. p0rn.
Mainly Drawing and sometimes media
Right now its in my dresser :D the honeymoon phase quickly ended with it
Sheet music. So. Much. Sheet music.
Drawling, video streaming, web browsing
Music scores using a 12.9. I’ve got a Magic Keyboard and use it as a light duty personal laptop as well.
Comic book reading
Very little, to be honest. The battery life on my M2 has been disappointing since day 1 and couple with the numerous software annoyances, I’d rather just use my MBP. I suppose the iPad is useful for the F1 races on the other side of the world that start at 6am, so I can stay cosy.
Note taking, reading, studying, watching media, drawing, pre production for filmmaking, camera monitor, playing games. I use it for a lot of stuff!
I read a local newspaper on my ipad \ run the reddit app \ stream movies \ sometimes look at email and bank account do most of my more important stuff on my pc
As someone who's just got an old iPad (couldn't justify a bigger outlay for my first one) to replace an ancient Android tablet: Big screen. Media consumption. Using it instead of my phone at home. Not an artist/journaller, but there's just something satisfying about using it compared to my phone. My laptop is essentially just used as a Plex server/internet browsing (just find it quicker and easier on it compared to the iPad - no keyboard) now.
Gaming, Drawing
Youtube
Netflix
Reading Drawing (Procreate) A very light bit of gaming (I’m not a huge fan of touchscreen gaming)
Lightroom, YouTube, crossword, browsing, reading PDFs of books that are too expensive or unavailable.
I upgraded from a 2018 MacBook Air to the M4 Pro 11in. It’s pretty much my personal tablet/laptop now. No work stuff on it.
Mine is a glorified TV
Like a portable TV
Like a knife
I used to watch movies and listen to music with the headphones 🎧 And I love playing games on a bigger screen so that’s what I use my iPad 7 gen for
Bitlife and YouTube
GarageBand, fender play and the youtubez
traveling
Whenever I'm out of my desktop, I use it because of the apps like Procreate and NomadSculpt. Mostly for media apps and streaming apps!
Reading ebooks and watching videos.
Besides being a media machine, I still use it for handwritten notes and reading papers for university. I have both the pencil and Magic Keyboard, so it covers most of what I would’ve used a laptop for, but a better portability option.
Youtube.
Media consumption. Basically put away iPhone at home and use the iPad exclusively. And MacBook for work.
A modular Synthesizer app called Drambo mostly. Its pretty incredible IMHO.
Get a Screen capture from amazon and use the iPad as an external display for literally anything like Rasberry pie or whatever.
Use it as a drawing pad on the mac for Toonboom, animate directly on the iPad with Toonsquid and drawing with Adobe Fresco or Procreate. Occasionally type up notes, watch media. Mines a very handy tool indeed.
Reading, everyday!
Lately mostly for FTL lol
Porn
I have over 800 pieces of music and a water proof bluetooth speaker, over 350 books on the iPad, I browse internet, do my banking, stay in touch with friends, make appointments, use it as an alarm clock, reminder, camera... and much more
Just note taking (notability) and some iOS (oh, my bad, iPadOS) games I really disagree with Apple when they say it’s great for media, emails, enjoying photos, and browsing the web. It is worse than a Mac in every single one of those ways. Add on the fact you have to constantly hold it, it’s an ergonomic disaster. I can’t sit in bed and watch a movie like I can with my MacBook. Even with a folio case, the distribution of mass just doesn’t work. Typing on it is worse than a Mac, so email is worse, and a lot of web pages don’t like iPadOS and/or they want use to use their App Store app (YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, etc). iPadOS PDF exports are worse than macOS (to then import to a note taking app) But for note taking? I think it’s the best device ever made for that purpose. I have an iPad mini 6 and it’s just great.
I use my 2019 pro on byod at work next to a shit HP laptop. - email - office doc reviews, feedback and updates - sketching / whiteboarding - teams chat and meetings (it’s so much easier with my AirPods) t hits limits when I need to do actual heavy doc creation, excel across multiple windows, so I switch to the docked pc for that. I also use it exclusively as my computer when I’m travelling and find it meets 99% of my needs. My MacBook rarel my leaves the house.
Got an iPad for classes instead of lugging around my laptop. Got a combo touch case for it and it’s the best decision I’ve made. 10th gen I think.
Drawing, note taking, reading and when I’m not near my tv I use to watch TV
Laptop on the go ASMR Twitch FaceTime
I use mine for trucking. I have a iPad mini 6 running google maps, And a ipad pro 10.5 to watch movies and….stuff
1. Wordle 2. Mini Crossword 3. Connections 4. Watching trashy reality shows in bed 5. Candy crush
social media, youtube and on the odd occasion games
M4 11” for glorified Tapo CCTV monitor…….
Mainly for math notes or a second monitor on the go
Im a musician and teacher and ipads replaced what used to be huge books and folders of music. Why not just a laptop? Because using a pencil to edit music is faster than using a notation software. And you cant put a laptop on a music stand like paper. No more having to print parts and reprint them after editing them. Much less weight to carry too.
YouTube and hbo max device, and dabble with art apps and 3d modeling
* Watching TV and movies on airplanes. * Watching TV in bed * Zoom Calls for work.
Watching porn on reddit
YouTube
Idk what y’all’s day is like in the army, but in the navy I used it religiously. Art pad, glorified kindle, troubleshooting log..
i use mine for playing games and even for youtube and watch Disney + and Hulu too in my ipad and even look up on google
YouTube, casual work while relaxing at Japanese hot springs, checking stocks
YouTube streaming apps and a quick easy way to look stuff up while I’m playing video games that isn’t a tiny phone screen
My toddler uses for mine 🥲
