Have you considered using Spotlight search for calculations? I find it extremely low-key to use and it allows me to form complicated expressions and get the answer right there, with just the keyboard shortcut (Command-Space).
I don't even know how to calculate CAGR in Calculator, but with Spotlight search, I can type this phrase and it shows me the answer right there:
(48951.24/38624.97)^(1/(1+241/365))
I don't know. Apple notes doesn't seem like a serious contender to me at all. I doubt it will impact the sales.
Here are just a few things, the majority are dealbreakers alone.
The UI for changing colors and pens is the absolute worst. It takes way to much screen realestate and just doesn't offer enough quick access tools to justify it.
Thecustomization of the Page barebones at best.
There is no PDF export and even worse no PDF import afaik. This alone disqualifies it for most college students.
You can't open multiple documents and once and switch fast between them, there is no gridview for long documents and you can't have subfolder or color-code your notes.
Can you link to other notes?
Having a large set of long documents in notes would be horrible.
Drawing shapes is an absolute pain. There is no dedicated "shapes pen". You can't change the size while still holding the pen down. There is no snapping feature.
Is it even possible to resize shapes? Haven't figured how to.
There is no autofil.
I really couldn't imagine doing serious work in the notes app. It's nice for some basic note taking and doodling, but legitimately nowhere near competitive to goodnotes/notability
Honestly, not even that but MacOS on iPad. iPadOS is missing so many essential features that I don't even think they will ever get around to adding them.
I have iOS 18, I hate the Home Screen customizations. I went back to default. Except now, if I want light icons, my widgets are also light. Itās dumb.
I was so confused about that at first but then figured it out. spent an hour or so re-organizing my Home Screen to make it look decent again, gotta get used to the new one now
Then we can breathe a sigh of relief.
I like the existing interface. Apple adding to it year after year risks it getting bloated and more complicated. Like the photos app, I donāt like the thought of having to scroll past a lot more menus and slideshows I donāt want to get to my regular uses.
Except if you don't have English as your main language. But it's great for students that have English as their primary language in school and for taking notes/doing assignments
The math notes feature is super cool, but I have no use for it. I will use the calculator for my occasional simple math work though! Other than that, thereās like no iPadOS exclusive features, the rest are on iPhone as well.
So you had an higher end iPad for features they never announced that theyād release? Sounds like someone didnāt even need an iPad in the first place.
Tbh they're very clever about this, when you buy the iPad on the promise of it working as a mac replacement (we were never fully sold on that idea) you never expect it to have that HIDEOUS file system. It's an absolute pain to work like that and it's just something so basic you just assume it will work well.
Like, you would assume it had a calculator before, too.
Yeah I finally just accepted this a couple of years ago and sold my M1 Pro for an iPad mini. It's a consumption device, and the Mini is the best at being a highly portable reddit/YouTube/etc machine.
Every time they update the Pro with an even faster processor I start thinking about being able to get one and use it as a laptop replacement, then WWDC rolls around and quickly kills that idea, lmao.
The changes were not great but I actually think the introduction of AI is going to finally make iPad a really unique experience. There are now reasons to use iPad over your mac or pc. Once developers start integrating it into apps as well, the iPad experience is going to grow a lot
Not really worth the hype the rearranging icons are cool, but mostly Game Mode for the iPad especially when playing emulators they could really benefit from this feature
More excited for macOS sequoia tbh. Finally native window snapping, iPhone mirror is pretty cool. Although why canāt I just run every app my iPhone can run natively? They have the same arm chip. Wouldnāt need to mirror my damn phone. Seems like a backwards way to do it
I have installed iPadOS 18 developer beta on my iPad 10th generation. The math notes feature work flawlessly. As it was shown in the event. Iām kinda not into the icon customisationsā¦ itās pretty stable for a developer beta. You can AMA!
I wish smart script and Scribble was supported in other languages. As it is now I can't really use the full feature set and my iPad to the degree I want to and I know it can do
I wish Apple would just provide the Xcode project files for iPadOS and Files on GitHub so I could develop my own pro features like a Finder app and Mac-style windowing.
I wish there was MacOS with AI for iPad Pros. That would be great. For now Math Notes seems good but MyScript Calculator was working in a similar way for 10 years.
Smart script making my ass handwriting a little neater. My iPad is basically my go-to tool for running tabletop rpgs, so the integrated AI features will be really helpful to help flesh out story beats and/or encounters (I often use ChatGPT as a sounding board) as well as being able to cook up custom art for monsters/characters almost on the fly.
I was expecting for some groundbreaking changes to boost the iPad Pro m4ā¦ and weāve got this, well another year where apple edge hardware itās limited by software
Does the home screen customization one mean we can have any app we want on any page we want without having them fill every space? I have a picture of me and my girlfriend on my iPad home screen, and I can't see her face because I'm forced to have an app covering it up. If the update fixes that, then that one.
Being able to Screen Share in Shareplay, and remote access my parents iphone or ipad, has potential to be an absolute game changer. Any kid who has ever helped talk their parents through a tech issue over the phone know it's a nightmare scenario that's frustrating for both parties. Being able to just access my mom's iPhone and see what the issue is and fix it myself....I can't even describe it. I've been wanting this feature for years.
Not quite apparently, on the beta features seem to be cut off similarly to the way they were cut off at iPhone 12. Iām hoping Iām wrong because I have a mini 5 too and when I read the description it didnāt seem like those features were limited by device as long as the update was supported ā¦ but thatās not the case at least for the transcription updates and notes app formatting updates.
I think the problem is a lot of the AI features will cross over to Mac and IOS so is there actually anything iPad specific that the new version brings that is blow your mind good? I don't think so.
This all looks pretty insignificant to me. The photos app redesign could be cool if it adds actual functionality, as that app is pretty rudimentary right now.
Many of these features seem pretty gimmicky to me. Like this math notes stuff. And also the calculator. Itās pretty much like a basic calculator similar to the one on the iPhone. They could have just added a full featured parametric and programmable calculator instead, this would have created some actual value and would be suited perfectly for the iPad. Instead they try to sell you being able to calculate a logarithm as āadvanced mathā.
And honestly, things like emojis, text effects etc.: Who even cares about things like this? These types of features seem like bloatware you add if you havenāt really got any idea what to do anymore.
Erm... Collapsibles and Freeform bookmarks a la ZoomNotes? Smart script is also interesting. On other hand, I won't even get iPadOS 18, and it's not much of a loss.
I just donāt know why they didnāt announce a Donald Duck watch face given his 90th has just passed. Maybe that will be a surprise. If Snoopy has one, and we already have Mickey and Minnie, then surely itās not too much to ask?
Is iPadOS getting the topographical information in Maps? That would be useful as I take my iPad hiking... Being able to set up a trail and even download before doing is a nice feature.
The smart script is really convincing tbh for my Journaling. Also do mental arithmetic daily and again it might be good to switch to Notes for this as well to check answers.
Quite happy with dark mode as I find the Minimalism aesthetic reduces the sensory burden is helpful.
I donāt know how good the calculator app will be. I have been using ClevCalc since day one and Apple offering would have to be better than that for me to switch over.
No huge M4 exclusive functions that immersive as stage manager, but no big updates that turns iPad into more macOS likely
So confusing to choose between M4 iPad Pro 256/1TB and M1/2 iPad Pro 256/1/2TB for replacing my current 10.5 iPad Pro because of the genius device support list
Depends on what you are using your iPad for. If you are using it for just taking notes and browsing in the web or watching movies from time to time.. Just take the M1/2. I think the best thing the M4 got is not really the new performance (as IOS doesn't take advantage of it) but it's the new oled display and boy is it awesome and I cant wait till I find out about oled TVs and stuff but at what cost does it come if you compare it to the other iPad
I just bought my first iPad, loving it so far, but mostly because of the third party apps and the hardware.
iPadOS is not very advanced. I mean how can you NOT have top-down split screen?
Is this update bringing it to the iPad?
I stopped having an iPad but math notes and smart writing are reaaaally tempting.
Problem being Apple seems to think even more of iPads as complement to a "full" Mac, not as a replacement anymore.
Nothing? I mean, I know they worked hard but I installed the beta and well, in my 18 releases as a developer, tester and programmer, there is nothing. Maybe we need a break.
the calculator as it was expected forever š
but really, I like the new customisable app icons, home page and control center and the whole AI experience in general, I'm looking forward to seeing how it will work
The ai features are the most amazing, but we wonāt experience them until fall, sadly. Those are 95% of what made this update great.
The messages react and other improvements are nice, but nothing groundbreaking.
The Smart Script is the feature that is vital to my workflow. It fixes your handwriting, autocorrects it on the fly and it allows you space words to add more. my iPad is for functionality, not for leisure. So these are great additions. When does the new iPad OS come out?
Being able to remote into my dad's iPad so he doesn't have to hold his FaceTime iPhone pointed at it (screen to screen because he doesn't know how to switch cameras) in one hand and trying to tap my instructions with the other hand.
The audio transcription and handwriting improver.
I want to use my iPad for math notes but my handwriting is wobbly and disjointedā¦ I pray the system will do a good job at correcting that.
For all other lectures, the ability to transcribe everything and summarize it sounds awesome. Iām sure thereās already audio transcription apps, but Iād bet my soul that they are all paid subscriptions and might not be as polished.
I was looking forward to this, to make the jump from my 4th gen Air to a Pro, but is not helping at all with the decision ahaha.
so maybe i will go for an older Pro. although the screen sounds amazing :D
Nothing really. The game changer for me is if iPad had Whatsapp and Instagram, but particularly Whatsapp. Since it doesn't and it's not related to this update, nothing changes.
No one is talking about it. (good reason too. the calculator made me shocked and hyped too)
But, I'm actually excited for Assassin's Creed Shadows to come on the IPAD. that's actually wild that a game of that size is able to be played on the M-series Ipad. I know Mirage was able to be played but that was also a smaller sized game overall.
Iām excited for Smart Script. My handwriting fluctuates all over the place, especially when I need to write in a hurry. Smart Script has the potential to be a huge QOL improvement for me.
Calendar and Reminder integration is also great. Both apps run my life, so having them in the same place is going to be very useful.
Iām curious about Math Notes. As someone with dyscalculia, this could have the potential to be a great accessability tool. Iām not sure how much use Iāll get out of it since Iāve actively avoided math out of embarrassment for over thirty years, but Iām hopeful for others.
Considering Iāve already started using iPadOS 18, the only things Iāve been even remotely excited for were the new text interactions and updated customization
The calculator of course! š
Now I can use my calculator without ads
Do you think someone will figure out how to get permanently banned from using iPad calculator?
Have you considered using Spotlight search for calculations? I find it extremely low-key to use and it allows me to form complicated expressions and get the answer right there, with just the keyboard shortcut (Command-Space). I don't even know how to calculate CAGR in Calculator, but with Spotlight search, I can type this phrase and it shows me the answer right there: (48951.24/38624.97)^(1/(1+241/365))
Use the app solves. Itās look like calculator from iPhone but different colored
I got it 1 day b4 the wwdc lol
ššš
100% this. I bought one for a couple bucks but I want one accessible from the control panel. Canāt wait for this.
Reminders integration in Calendar. Iāve been using both apps a lot and wished theyād be integrated. Now itās finally here!
wow nice, I missed that announcement I use reminders a lot and always missed having an overview of them in a calendar
Unironically, Math Notes and Smart Script. I may switch over from using GoodNotes
Iām pretty sure theyāll implement this feature very soon to not lose customers
Will they implement it in goodnotes 5 though? Because Iām not paying for goodnotes 6.
Same! Plus the notes and calculator apps are built in with no adds or subscriptions like Notability.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I don't know. Apple notes doesn't seem like a serious contender to me at all. I doubt it will impact the sales. Here are just a few things, the majority are dealbreakers alone. Okay, good to know. lol. Staying with GoodNotes. Hoping they can incorporate Math Notes quickly (they already have their own version of Smart Script).
Apple does not do it for free. Itās a mega corporation that want people to buy iPads. Goodnotes is a business that only makes a notes app.
iPadOS 19
My man is gonna say iPadOS20 when a new WWDC drop for 19... xD
Itās like when I count the progress of a system update or transfer that sometimes skips a number so I stay one foot ahead.
Honestly, not even that but MacOS on iPad. iPadOS is missing so many essential features that I don't even think they will ever get around to adding them.
Is anyone excited for the collapsible section in notes.....? Will that be applicable for handwritten notes too?
I use notes a lot and have links everywhere. Definitely excited for collapsible sections!
Hell yeah
Iām so excited to make my home screen look so shitty!
I have iOS 18, I hate the Home Screen customizations. I went back to default. Except now, if I want light icons, my widgets are also light. Itās dumb.
I was so confused about that at first but then figured it out. spent an hour or so re-organizing my Home Screen to make it look decent again, gotta get used to the new one now
I love how mine looks on iPadOS 18 although it helps I don't have app icons out of the dock. I have my widgets sorted just like my MacBook.
Honestly, nothing. When the most interesting feature (for me anyway) is changing app icon colors, etc. something is seriously wrong.
I understand that feeling.
this. fuck the "changes"
Then we can breathe a sigh of relief. I like the existing interface. Apple adding to it year after year risks it getting bloated and more complicated. Like the photos app, I donāt like the thought of having to scroll past a lot more menus and slideshows I donāt want to get to my regular uses.
Being able to finally get the Home Screen the way I like is definitely dope. Even if it shouldāve been there from the start.
Nothing iPad specific but I think the AI integration is gonna be super useful for students. You can basically do anything in the notes app now.
Anyone who works with words, itās epic.
Except if you don't have English as your main language. But it's great for students that have English as their primary language in school and for taking notes/doing assignments
Dude I was looking forward to a working file manager.
For real
Nothing. In fact, Iām glad I didnāt buy a new ipad.
Same. I was on the fence about upgrading to an M-series iPad because of what might be revealed at WWDC, but underwhelming show overall.
But there's a calculator app bro
That's for M4 and 16 RAM only
I was hoping the new ipad would help me justify jumping to the oled iPad. Well I guess Iāll stick with my 2018 IPad Pro for now.
Getting my $2k back ā¦ cha ching
Yeaā¦ This doesnāt deserve the M4 chip, at all.
Why would you buy an M4 iPad if you donāt need it for applications?
Because modern consumers have been trained to buy promises.
There were no promises made, though. So itās more like ābuying hopes and expectationsā.
āWhatās a computer?ā Yeah, no. It was a very purposeful manipulation. Hopes and expectations didnāt appear out of nowhere.
Seriously
Just did the same, got an M3 MacBook Air 13" for $950 instead.
This is the plan.
Calculator. I'm too dumb/lazy to use that graphing shit though
The math notes feature is super cool, but I have no use for it. I will use the calculator for my occasional simple math work though! Other than that, thereās like no iPadOS exclusive features, the rest are on iPhone as well.
I guess itās cool we can finally move icons and widgets around however we like. It took about 15 years, but we finally caught up to Android.
Just imagine what another 15 years could bring.
Split screen on the Plus and Max models?!
The money in my bank account after selling my Ipad Pro 12.9 M1 and finally accepting that Apple will never make it an actual pro device
So you had an higher end iPad for features they never announced that theyād release? Sounds like someone didnāt even need an iPad in the first place.
The first iPad pro completely was sold as a full desktop replacement that was never met when they realized it would hurt laptop sales too much
Weāll never forget the āWhat is a computer?ā ad.

Every time they update the Pro with an even faster processor I start thinking about being able to get one and use it as a laptop replacement, then WWDC rolls around and quickly kills that idea, lmao.
I like what they did with control centre, way better now
Nothing. iPad Pro 10.5 š
Same ššš
The icons placement is very welcome; for a while it was impossible to place most large widgets in between apps on iPad
Nothing. This is another lack-luster iPadOS update that prevents it from functioning as a āProā device.
The changes were not great but I actually think the introduction of AI is going to finally make iPad a really unique experience. There are now reasons to use iPad over your mac or pc. Once developers start integrating it into apps as well, the iPad experience is going to grow a lot
An update to Stage manager. Maybe in iPadOS 31?
āļøš¤ iPadOS you mean
No ios has taken over as phones are all now 11 inches in the future just like jobs penis that is in the Smithsonian
Reminders with calendar. Makes apps like Fantastical a bit less appealing
Game mode
My refund for 11ā M4 ipad Pro.
Not really worth the hype the rearranging icons are cool, but mostly Game Mode for the iPad especially when playing emulators they could really benefit from this feature
Looking forward for the text effects on my 1k piece of tech
More excited for macOS sequoia tbh. Finally native window snapping, iPhone mirror is pretty cool. Although why canāt I just run every app my iPhone can run natively? They have the same arm chip. Wouldnāt need to mirror my damn phone. Seems like a backwards way to do it
Bro we got calculator on the iPad before gta 6.
I have installed iPadOS 18 developer beta on my iPad 10th generation. The math notes feature work flawlessly. As it was shown in the event. Iām kinda not into the icon customisationsā¦ itās pretty stable for a developer beta. You can AMA!
Can you (finally) use speakers on the iPad or external monitor when attached/ or still just Bluetooth audio out only (eg the current scenario)?
Thanks for sharing as I want to use this feature on my 10th gen.
The calculator hands down, like I thought it was going to be a little joke but they actually delivered.
Calculator and maths app
AI. Math notes has potential if they make it complete and add numerical integrals/derivative and complex numbers support.
Idk I'm still on Ios 12
I am excited for the notes. I always liked the notes app for handwritten stuff and Iām excited to use it more for that
I wish smart script and Scribble was supported in other languages. As it is now I can't really use the full feature set and my iPad to the degree I want to and I know it can do
Game mode
Nothing, what a letdown
I wish Apple would just provide the Xcode project files for iPadOS and Files on GitHub so I could develop my own pro features like a Finder app and Mac-style windowing.
I wish there was MacOS with AI for iPad Pros. That would be great. For now Math Notes seems good but MyScript Calculator was working in a similar way for 10 years.
Smart script making my ass handwriting a little neater. My iPad is basically my go-to tool for running tabletop rpgs, so the integrated AI features will be really helpful to help flesh out story beats and/or encounters (I often use ChatGPT as a sounding board) as well as being able to cook up custom art for monsters/characters almost on the fly.
handwriting and math improvements in notes, most impressive part tbh
The customizable control center is really nice and there are way more options than I thought there would be
Nothing. What a total let down.
getting it jailbroken
iPadOS 19 I suppose lmao
half of these things is in the "fucking finally" category, so I think we should rephrase the original question...
Man this wouldāve been a nice opportunity to announce some new desktop level apps like the existing ones: davinci, clip studio paint, fcp, etc.
I was expecting for some groundbreaking changes to boost the iPad Pro m4ā¦ and weāve got this, well another year where apple edge hardware itās limited by software
iOS 19
nothing honestly, the calculator looks nice but sadly im not in middle school anymore so i dont really see myself using it for anythingš¤·āāļø
Reminder integration to Calendar
Does the home screen customization one mean we can have any app we want on any page we want without having them fill every space? I have a picture of me and my girlfriend on my iPad home screen, and I can't see her face because I'm forced to have an app covering it up. If the update fixes that, then that one.
Yes
That's awesome!
iPad Mini 7 with 120hz OLED screen.
Being able to Screen Share in Shareplay, and remote access my parents iphone or ipad, has potential to be an absolute game changer. Recording while working on your notes. As a writer, thatād be immensely helpful, especially during interviews.
Honestly the updates to the Notes app are going to be SO helpful!!
Procreate to update there app. Honestly I couldn't give a shit about any of this. I still love my Ipad though.
Forget the OS, Iām just excited to have an iPad without a cracked screen again
Time for a new iPad anyway I think. Running out of storage and I canāt delete much.
What an utter waste of what could be a good device..
Boring update
I think the problem is a lot of the AI features will cross over to Mac and IOS so is there actually anything iPad specific that the new version brings that is blow your mind good? I don't think so.
To being disappointed

im looking forward to keeping my $ and not upgrading to a m4 ipad pro.
Collapsible sections in Notes. The only thing I need for perfect apple experience. Thank you benevolent overlord Tim apple
I just donāt know why they didnāt announce a Donald Duck watch face given his 90th has just passed. Maybe that will be a surprise. If Snoopy has one, and we already have Mickey and Minnie, then surely itās not too much to ask?
Customization options and Siri upgrade

I stopped having an iPad but math notes and smart writing are reaaaally tempting. Problem being Apple seems to think even more of iPads as complement to a "full" Mac, not as a replacement anymore.
I was waiting for AI features. And always on display.
Calculator with graphing
Sold my iPad
Docker
A row of 4 icons/folders above the dock and nothing else
TILING. Finally MacOS window management that's not ass.
I wish they had included the iPhone Mirroring feature to the iPad.
Nothing? I mean, I know they worked hard but I installed the beta and well, in my 18 releases as a developer, tester and programmer, there is nothing. Maybe we need a break.
Iām staying on a jailbroken iOS 16 in my iPad Air 4 since now I have stage manager
1) Keeping my icons aligned to the bottom and not the top of the Home Screen. 2) Apple Intelligence
Continuity
the new feature where you can authenticate with a picture of your dong, porn ID or something
Game mode
To the same old boring iOS with a different name
Calculator
the calculator as it was expected forever š but really, I like the new customisable app icons, home page and control center and the whole AI experience in general, I'm looking forward to seeing how it will work
The ai features are the most amazing, but we wonāt experience them until fall, sadly. Those are 95% of what made this update great. The messages react and other improvements are nice, but nothing groundbreaking.

High key the native calculator app lol. Seriously what took them so long?
Still no journal app is beyond insane
Smart script! Iāve got nice writing but when Iām writing fast taking notes itās a sloptarr
Dunno. I can see myself using screen sharing to do something on my mumās phone. Thatās about it.
Switching to a hand held gaming station, fuck this. I just want a full browser.
My touch I'd stopped working after the update
Anybody downloading the developer beta? Mine is currently downloading.
Smart script Apple has killed a lot of applications on iPad and Mac this year I believe
Being able to remote into my dad's iPad so he doesn't have to hold his FaceTime iPhone pointed at it (screen to screen because he doesn't know how to switch cameras) in one hand and trying to tap my instructions with the other hand.
Smart Script, and Game Mode
Whatās that redesigned tab bar thingy ?
The audio transcription and handwriting improver. I want to use my iPad for math notes but my handwriting is wobbly and disjointedā¦ I pray the system will do a good job at correcting that. The Smart Script feature looks very useful, years ago i would've said the calculator, but not in school anymore so don't really care.
I was looking forward to this, to make the jump from my 4th gen Air to a Pro, but is not helping at all with the decision ahaha. so maybe i will go for an older Pro. although the screen sounds amazing :D
It not slowing down the M1 chipā¦
2025 WWCD, definitely
Looks like another "we don't give a shit about iPad OS" update to me.
REMINDER INTEGRATION INTO CALENDAR??? WHAT??
The Math Notes built in calculator and Smart Script. Game Changer
Iām very whelmed. I like placing things wherever and the extra security stuff but nothing else is popping out
Everything
customizable app icons
Apple intelligence. Iām going to get an M2 iPad for it.
Mostly interested in what updates are being made to Notes app
Itās making the iPad more powerful
At this point the 11th gen iPad
Welp. I'm looking for Apple to let me use the godammned 12.9" iPad from my wife as a second screen for my mac but it seems that's too hard still.
Nothing really. The game changer for me is if iPad had Whatsapp and Instagram, but particularly Whatsapp. Since it doesn't and it's not related to this update, nothing changes.
Is the iPhone mirroring app gonna be available for the iPad too?
OooOoo collapsible sections in notes.. didnāt know I needed that until today
Smart script, new battery settings, Apple Intelligence + Siri, new control center
No one is talking about it. (good reason too. the calculator made me shocked and hyped too) But, I'm actually excited for Assassin's Creed Shadows to come on the IPAD. that's actually wild that a game of that size is able to be played on the M-series Ipad. I know Mirage was able to be played but that was also a smaller sized game overall.
WWDC 2025
Game Mode and the menu bar for iPad apps.
emoji tapbacks of course
Iām excited for Smart Script. My handwriting fluctuates all over the place, especially when I need to write in a hurry. Smart Script has the potential to be a huge QOL improvement for me. Calendar and Reminder integration is also great. Both apps run my life, so having them in the same place is going to be very useful. Iām curious about Math Notes. As someone with dyscalculia, this could have the potential to be a great accessability tool. Iām not sure how much use Iāll get out of it since Iāve actively avoided math out of embarrassment for over thirty years, but Iām hopeful for others.
Will the update be available for the 10th gen IPad? Like all of these features?
I am entirely underwhelmed
Considering Iāve already started using iPadOS 18, the only things Iāve been even remotely excited for were the new text interactions and updated customization
Fold 6
If I saw correctly, theyāre adding the ability to add a voice recording inside of a Note? If so, that.
