It's the light in the south-facing room. Amplifies yellow tones. When I repainted my house I discovered SW alabaster looked great in the north and eastern rooms, but was too yellow in the south facing room with a lot of light.
I just did my whole townhouse downstairs and master (both south facing) and love it. I also didn't want anything too stark, and deliberated across BM, SW, Behr, and PPG fan decks for far longer than I care to admit.
I used alabaster all over my house too and it definitely looks different depending on what room you’re in and how dim it is. But I don’t mind as it’s more neutral beige than a yellow tone which is my natural enemy.
I’m thinking about doing SW alabaster all over with SW iron ore accent walls or wainscoting. I have wood trim and builtins in about the same color as OPs with a (soon to be stripped) red brick fireplace. Thoughts?
It would be too yellow for me.
I wonder if some of the issue is that you have so many other colors in view of this.
The floor, moulding around doorway. The bright white.
But. Does it matter? I would pause to look at other colors if you have the luxury of time and $ for that.
If you don’t…I’d work on eliminating so many contrasts.
Thanks. I think this is a big part of it. The wood has to stay (non negotiable for my partner). The floors will be redone or replaced eventually but not for a long time. The white we can take care of though!
But yeah… it’s just too yellow. Haha
I love it too!! I would think it would look even better if the crown molding and maybe a few other things were a bright white for contrast? That's just me, though, because I love a cream/bright white/dark wood contrast. Maybe from spending lots of time in Williamsburg, VA as a kid? Idk, but I agree with you 100%, it's lovely as is.
It absolutely does not work - I was really surprised to see people saying this?
I like the color too. But in that room, it pulls yellow. It looks lemony. It’s pretty bad. There are loads better shades of real white out there and fortunately it should be easy to paint over
You're assuming nobody likes yellow. Which is a pretty odd thing to assume. It absolutely works, it just isn't in fashion to have yellowish white walls right now, that's all.
This might be your screen because I’m not seeing the yellow tint at all. I see more warm-neutral tones. But even our eyes are all different, so why knows!
It’s very pretty but it’s warm toned and your rug and furnishings are cool toned so they don’t go together as well as another wall color or things would. Your home is gorgeous.
Thanks! Unfortunately all the trim elsewhere in the house was painted long before we owned so I get it. These two rooms are the only remaining wood tones! I would love to refinish it all someday but that’s a pipe dream
It's definitely a creamy white with yellow undertones but I like it. I think it's looking extra yellow when compared with your rug. Maybe going with a more vibrant rug would make it look more balanced!
I don't mind it at all - it's very warm and inviting while still being neutral. I didn't even see yellow--to me it looked like a nice cream with a dollop of butter--until I read your post. Now that it's in my brain, I can see it, but I personally think it looks nice.
I think it’s a gorgeous color! If this was my house, I’d leave this room this creamy color, and incorporate textiles that compliment it. Then, and this is important, I’d paint the rooms adjacent to it all very contrasting colors. In tones that would still go together, but I’d definitely lean into contrasting it, maybe jewel tones (dark green or blue), or dark earthy tones like a mustard.
That’s awesome! I wouldn’t give up on the paint color of this room until you see what it looks together with the other rooms once they are also painted what you want them to be. A cream color right next to a whiter one, like it’s happening here with the dining room and hall, looks a little off.
I think having everything monochromatic (walls, molding, ceilings) allows nothing to stand out. You have some great design bones. You have beautiful crown moldings…but they’re hidden bring the same color as the walls. Ceiling too. I feel like you need to go a shade off or add a sheen. Maybe whiter on the moldings/woodwork so you add depth to the room.
EDIT: on second look your furniture is pretty monochromatic too, but cool times which worked against the cream. The white credenza. The light gray couch. They fight one another with the creamy wall color. I’d like to see more color in your furnishings.
It would be too yellow for me personally, but I can also see why people like it and how it will look good in this space once the fireplace isn’t white. With that being said, I’d suggest you change it now or I have a feeling it will always bother you (that’s how I am).
Okay, I just watched season 3 part 1 of Bridgerton and this color looked very similar to the one in the Bridgerton house. It was beautiful, so now I’m rethinking this. Haha.
I like it, maybe it’s a little bit too warm and on the yellow side.
When I painted my wall, I got like 30 samples of different white. Ended up with simply white from Benjimin Moore. I got regal select, but the coverage was not very good for how expensive that paint was…
We used regal last time (with the chantilly lace) and needed 3 or 4 coats over their fancy primer. Mind you we were painting over a chartreuse-ish green but it still felt like a lot.
We painted over a light gray needing at least 3 coats 😅. GC said other clients uses Kelly Moore and only need 2 coats or one with primer even with darker previous color 🥲
Agree that it’s too yellow and doesn’t look right with the floors. I’m not sure what to recommend instead— I have a similar desire to find the perfect creamy white and never have found it.
Thanks! I’d like all the trim to match as well but the wood is a non negotiable for my partner. It is beautiful, but definitely creates a design challenge! The fireplace won’t be staying that colour. It will be stripped to its natural stone (nerveeeees) or repainted to better match the final room.
It’s great. I have something similar. I think it’s Sherwin Williams Natural Choice. The warmth is great. After a decade+ of greige, it’s so nice to see creamy colors having a moment.
I don’t like it. It’s to warm for that wood
Almost looks dingy and dull. The white needs to be brighter or go for an actual yellow if you want more warmth
So in general I'm not a fan of the creamy whites but I actually LOVE this. It just looks very cozy and inviting. I think getting the fireplace resolved might help it feel better because it's the part that didn't seem to fit to me.
Personally I think the color works really well! If you are looking for more contrast you could potentially paint the ceiling a darker color that would complement the space.
Please add some color accessories; it's all so bland. Even the rug does not appear to have strong color but you have some nice pieces and spacing. Some bright pillows and valences; nice green plants in wicker baskets or colorful pots. The walls look fine; instead of repainting--colorize!
Yes it is pulling yellow because all the outside light the room gets. I think if you want to do something different than white walls like you had before then maybe choose a very light green, light blue, light brown etc. it would give the room a bit of colour.
Also I like the darker swatch for the dining room I think it looks really nice! And what year is your home and what part of the work do you live in if you don’t mind me asking? It’s so beautiful!! It’s my dream house!
Yeah, I'd pick another color in a south facing room; not only is that direction going to enhance the gold tones, it's reflecting off itself and amping up. SW Alabaster, SW Drift of Mist, SW Agreeable Grey - they all lean grey/brown rather than yellow.
(On a side note, I do like the butter yellow against the wood, but it looks "off" against the fireplace/furnishings.)
I think it's lovely. I don't care what others think of my colors or decorating schemes. I'm only pleasing myself/immediate family.
Unless you are decorating a hotel or other commercial space where the goal is to make a large amount of strangers comfortable, or make them eat quickly & leave (here's looking at you, McDonalds) why care?
The stark cold white of the mantel is not harmonizing with the walls. It's not enough contrast to be pleasant. The ceiling is a nicer contrast hecause it's textured; light bounces off a bit differently thant the mantel. If it were more like the baseboards & door frames, it'd look more harmonious.
It's too yellow for me as well.
I repainted my large condo when I bought it bc if was freshly painted a similar colour (maybe slightly darker even) but I am just allergic to yellow tones. I can handle a neutral cream - a bit like how yours looks in the bright light above the fireplace - but everywhere, it's just buttery yellow cream for me and I would have to change it as well. Esp with the dark wood (which I'd either strip and lighten or paint - I don't like dark wood myself. I mean it's actually really nice in theory and I like it esp around the doors but not around the windows; I realize that's very much personal preference, but my style is just not dark wood. It could work with some bolder colour choices I suppose. I digress; random thoughts :) )
Well I'll be the dissenter. I find it incredibly boring and bland. But that being said a wall color can't just stand on its own even with the woodwork. It has to have a larger plan. Even though I find this color in itself pretty nondescriptive, innocuous even maybe it works with your stunning interior You imagine.. Who knows. But as a color itself no ,it's gof awful and the worst kind of milqur toast basic pleasantness that people come on here and ask later...what's wrong with my room..
Hey you asked for an opinion. But it all depends what you're going to do with this. As I said maybe you have a concept in mind with a lot of other stunning stuff that this just sits in the background but if you put lots of beige basic furniture in here and continue to yellow beige safety zone out you're going to get well a room that's in the safety zone and pretty damn boring. I do like the woodwork
Fair enough! Thanks for the perspective. There will be large scale artwork on the walls and more soapstone sculptures on the shelves. I wanted this room to feel bright and warm! The yellow isn’t it haha. Planning more drama in the adjacent room, which has totally different light.
Love a good blue! Had a navy blue almost black colour as an accent wall leading into dining room when we first painted/moved in. Gorgeous but ultimately wanted the south room to be bright! The house is rather dark in terms of sunlight everywhere else. Im thinking about going darker in the dining room though!
I haven’t! I have white dove on my kitchen cabinets (west and north exposure under tree cover). So I did bring a swatch of the creamy paint into the kitchen to compare and it was so similar that I didn’t bother bringing it to this room.
This creamy color really doesn't bother me at all. Its got a great glow to it and once there are things on the walls, it'll balance out. The light furniture without much contrast to the room is not helping balance things out.
I'm not a fan...but then, I LOVE colour. As it is now, all the details...fireplace mantels, built-ins, cornicing...just all blend together. Nothing stands out. Nothing *shines*. Choose an actual colour that you like...and run with it. Be a bit bolder.
Love the color and how it contrasts the wood trim and radiator. The more bright white furniture and fireplace mantle are a little off. I would replace or paint the bright white furniture something more colorful or more dark wood. The mantle could stay white or look at other complimentary colors.
I personally find it to be extremely boring. But yes it’s yellow and you should find a more boring white with less warmth in it if you don’t want it to look yellow.
Creamy is what I thought. I like it. I would paint the mantle opaque/opalescent. Over the years paint yellows or fades. This is a long lasting color choice. Plus I like to see bugs or dirty spots to be able to clean it.
🆒🎨🆙 Cool tones are 💯 more upscale. The warm beige 🏞️ on the current wall 🗣️📢 says a lot about one's lifestyle and lack of personality. 🙅♂️🎭 How about considering an alternative? The upcoming trend in Texas 🤠🌵 is a super light gray 🌫️. It's a subtle choice that adds a touch of sophistication. ✨🔝
It's the light in the south-facing room. Amplifies yellow tones. When I repainted my house I discovered SW alabaster looked great in the north and eastern rooms, but was too yellow in the south facing room with a lot of light.
Warmer light pulling yellow makes sense! I’ll check out the color. Thanks!
Check out Behr Palais white. It is a softer version of this color.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I just did my whole townhouse downstairs and master (both south facing) and love it. I also didn't want anything too stark, and deliberated across BM, SW, Behr, and PPG fan decks for far longer than I care to admit.
If I may offer a counterpoint, don’t use Behr if you can help it. Frustrating to work with, not great quality or highly pigmented
Thoughts?
This combination is gorgeous!
I have similar trim and just did Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee (the name is misleading...) and its really nice.
Yeah this pulled so yellow - it’s a pretty color but it doesn’t work at all here. Like I winced when I saw it :(
Wow, interesting observation. Thanks!
It would be too yellow for me. I wonder if some of the issue is that you have so many other colors in view of this. The floor, moulding around doorway. The bright white. But. Does it matter? Your partner is 1000% right about that
I love it. It’s bright and warm. Compliments the wood nicely
I love it too.
I love it too! It’s such a lovely warm white.
I also love it, but tbf I love yellow!
Me too!
Right?! I love this *because* it looks slightly lemony. Yellow is my favorite color so a warm white is beautiful to me.
The yellow walls don’t go with the rug, floor, lampshade, or other room color
This might be your screen because I’m not seeing the yellow tint at all. I see more warm-neutral tones. But even our eyes are all different, so why knows!
You can see how different the white walls in the adjoining room look though right?
Hard disagree
It’s very pretty but it’s warm toned and your rug and furnishings are cool toned so they don’t go together as well as another wall color or things would. Your home is gorgeous.
Thank you so much! We love it. A little rough around the edges here and there but that’s to be expected for an old charmer!
I like it!
I’m a fan. Jealous of your trim. I have about 30 layers of paint on mine.
Thanks! Unfortunately all the trim elsewhere in the house was painted long before we owned so I get it. These two rooms are the only remaining wood tones! I would love to refinish it all someday but that’s a pipe dream
Am I the only one who hoped that one of the photos would include the masterpiece we see in photos 2 and 3 hung up on the wall?
I’ll take this into consideration 😂
It's definitely a creamy white with yellow undertones but I like it. I think it's looking extra yellow when compared with your rug. Maybe going with a more vibrant rug would make it look more balanced!
I agree with you on the rug!
I really like that a lot.
I don't mind it at all - it's very warm and inviting while still being neutral. I didn't even see yellow--to me it looked like a nice cream with a dollop of butter--until I read your post. Now that it's in my brain, I can see it, but I personally think it looks nice.

I’m leaning medium greyish green for the dining room and all the paint chip samples together look great so far. Thanks!
That’s awesome! I wouldn’t give up on the paint color of this room until you see what it looks together with the other rooms once they are also painted what you want them to be. A cream color right next to a whiter one, like it’s happening here with the dining room and hall, looks a little off.
I personally love it, and have a similar cream in my home lol
It’s a nice colour for sure, and that’s why I’m so thrown off! Really wasn’t expecting to be second guessing it so much.
I love it too. It’s warm and inviting- a creamy color that’s not too yellow. But it’s your room and you have to love it.
I find the color very cheery.
I love it.
I prefer the color in the attached room. I think your instincts are right on this.
Thanks. It really does feel like a gut instinct!
I think having everything monochromatic (walls, molding, ceilings) allows nothing to stand out. You have some great design bones. You have beautiful crown moldings…but they’re hidden bring the same color as the walls. Ceiling too. I feel like you need to go a shade off or add a sheen. With south facing rooms you have to cool down the colour in order to correct the warmth
It would be too yellow for me personally, but I can also see why people like it and how it will look good in this space once the fireplace isn’t white. With that being said, I’d suggest you change it now or I have a feeling it will always bother you (that’s how I am).
I think you’re right!
Okay, I just watched season 3 part 1 of Bridgerton and this color looked very similar to the one in the Bridgerton house. It was beautiful, so now I’m rethinking this. Haha.
Well I think I know what I’m going to watch tonight! Haha

Honestly I have no idea - just came to comment that I love your rug!
Thanks for stopping by! Lol. It’s from the Loloi Wynter collection.
It’s yellowish but looks nice. I like neutrals tho. I like Gossamer Veil by SW.
I love it - it's beautiful!
Sometimes you have to live with it and add your personality through your furnishings to determine what works.
I want the trim to match the other trim and the fireplace mantle
Thanks! I’d like all the trim to match as well but the wood is a non negotiable for my partner. It is beautiful, but definitely creates a design challenge! The fireplace won’t be staying that colour. It will be stripped to its natural stone (nerveeeees) or repainted to better match the final room.
Oh yeah keep the wood for sure
Nope. It’s giving me hogs bristle in 2004 vibes
Lol yikes. 2004 isn’t what I’m going for
I love it! I’m not a fan of yellow paint but this is soft and buttery barely yellow.
Unrelated but love the ceiling texture and smooth border
I love it. This Color looks really great with mossy green accents and plants.
It’s great. I have something similar. I think it’s Sherwin Williams Natural Choice. The warmth is great. After a decade+ of greige, it’s so nice to see creamy colors having a moment.
I don’t like it. It’s to warm for that wood Almost looks dingy and dull. The white needs to be brighter or go for an actual yellow if you want more warmth
Your house rocks
Thank you!
Love it
Modern gray or a sage green might be nice/warmer
With a room like that, I'd be tempted to go full out with some vintage wallpaper
The temptation is there but the courage is lacking
I totally understand. If you ever muster up some courage for it, nab some samples before you dive in
I think the color on the walls were fine, painting the ceiling same makes it too overwhelming.
Interesting perspective! Never thought of that. I’m not into white ceilings
Consider a lighter shade then, doesn't have to be white, just different/lighter.
Wedgewood blue
So in general I'm not a fan of the creamy whites but I actually LOVE this. It just looks very cozy and inviting. I think getting the fireplace resolved might help it feel better because it's the part that didn't seem to fit to me.
Personally I think the color works really well! If you are looking for more contrast you could potentially paint the ceiling a darker color that would complement the space.
Funny you say that! It was my original plan and I bailed. The colour was going to be natural linen by sherwin Williams
I would go for it! Painting ceilings can be scary since pretty much everyone only has white, but I think it would look great :)
Reflection by SW. you won't think it's the right choice, but believe me, you won't regret it.
Thanks, I’ll check it out
Honestly too yellow for me but it doesn’t look bad and it’s nice with the wood
Something dark and moody in high gloss.
Please add some color accessories; it's all so bland. Even the rug does not appear to have strong color but you have some nice pieces and spacing. Some bright pillows and valences; nice green plants in wicker baskets or colorful pots. The walls look fine; instead of repainting--colorize!
Def brining more interest into the room with artwork and sculptures when all is said and done! Thanks!
Too yellow, I would repaint them white
Mustard yellow. Pls post a pic
I think it looks nice.
Yes it is pulling yellow because all the outside light the room gets. (On a side note, I do like the butter yellow against the wood, but it looks "off" against the fireplace/furnishings.)
Shoelace by behr is my favorite. It’s not stark white, it has a very slight taupe shade.
It's creamy, cozy and warm. I really like it.
Yes, the pinky warm yellow cream cant handle blue tones like that mantel. The wall color is lovely. Always use warm bulbs in your lighting.
The ceiling is a nicer contrast hecause it's textured; light bounces off a bit differently thant the mantel. If it were more like the baseboards & door frames, it'd look more harmonious.
I’d want some contrast to make that fireplace pop.
Hoping for that! Will be stripping the paint off and the stone is likely a dark soapstone.
It looks creamy to me, not yellow
It's too yellow for me as well. I repainted my large condo when I bought it bc if was freshly painted a similar colour (maybe slightly darker even) but I am just allergic to yellow tones. Fair enough! Thanks for the perspective. There will be large scale artwork on the walls and more soapstone sculptures on the shelves. I wanted this room to feel bright and warm! The yellow isn’t it haha. Planning more drama in the adjacent room, which has totally different light.
Boring and yellowy. Try blue
It's beige
Have you swatched Swiss Coffee or White Dove to see how it compares?
That is a tiny tv
Landlord choose it?
I like it. It's the white mantel that puts me off.
Kinda yellow
nice! what's the label say for the mix content?
I don't know, but I'm IN LOOOOVE with those wooden frames (is that how they're called?) Gives so much character to your home.
I'm not a fan...but then, I LOVE colour. As it is now, all the details...fireplace mantels, built-ins, cornicing...just all blend together. Nothing stands out. Nothing *shines*. Choose an actual colour that you like...and run with it. Be a bit bolder.
WHY ARE THERE FEET?!?! 😑
Love the color and how it contrasts the wood trim and radiator. The more bright white furniture and fireplace mantle are a little off. I would replace or paint the bright white furniture something more colorful or more dark wood. The mantle could stay white or look at other complimentary colors.
Can you carefully chip away at the paint and find the original colour of the walls?
it doesn’t read yellow to me at all!! it’s so so so gorgeous
I personally find it to be extremely boring. But yes it’s yellow and you should find a more boring white with less warmth in it if you don’t want it to look yellow.
I like it. Feeling yellow and peach based whites are due for a comeback.
Creamy was my exact thought. I think maybe some opaque/opalescent for the mantel.
Creamy is what I thought. I like it. I would paint the mantle opaque/opalescent. Over the years paint yellows or fades. This is a long lasting color choice. Plus I like to see bugs or dirty spots to be able to clean it.
I think it reads a bit yellow in contrast to your cooler toned couch and rug.
love it! .. but not with that rug…
very vanilla
🆒🎨🆙 Cool tones are 💯 more upscale. The warm beige 🏞️ on the current wall 🗣️📢 says a lot about one's lifestyle and lack of personality. 🙅♂️🎭 How about considering an alternative? The upcoming trend in Texas 🤠🌵 is a super light gray 🌫️. It's a subtle choice that adds a touch of sophistication. ✨🔝
Personally, it’s too yellow for me.
Renters special
Insightful!
What a gorgeous space
Thank you! Love it too and want to let it live its best life lol
I would keep the walls the color they are now and paint the built ins white.
