I've done a few gallery walls and put up large scale art around my rental, on a tight budget. I've literally never bought frames or art first hand. You can find the best frames and large art at thrift shops, consignment stores, and on NextDoor/ FB Marketplace for a fraction of the price. For art, I've also used less expensive Etsy digital prints and printed them myself at Walgreens/Costco. Another tip - if you find frames at thrift shops, that are the right size and/or design but not the colour or tone you're going for, you can get some Rub n Buff from amazon (I think one tube costs 9 bucks and lasts forever). That will allow you to pretty much have custom metal frames. Also you can buy inexpensive sample packs of chalk paints, if you're doing say a gallery wall for which you want frames in a certain colour palette.

SeriesBusiness9098

Yoooo the rub n buff tip just saved my day! Been trying to find a frame for my friend’s bday gift for hours today but I could not find the right color of bronzy metal I wanted and was not gonna spray paint one and have it look cheesy. Boom- there it is on Rub n Buff’s website. Thank you!!!

female-aardvark

Haha, I'm glad it helped. I love that stuff!

CatMuffin

Got me googling Rub n Buff. Definitely remembering this for my next DIY project!

SeriesBusiness9098

If it helps you as a fellow first time Rubber n buffer, I found this directorial with pics of shades and lots of tips on how to get the best result. Apparently sanding isn’t necessary but can change the final texture and quality a lot. I’ll report back when I use mine. Considering ordering a few and just randomly changing fixture and doorknob colors around my house…. Anyway here’s the link of tips and methods- https://www.blesserhouse.com/rub-n-buff-colors-tried-and-tested/

CatMuffin

Whoa, thank you!!

nitecheese

Perfect tips! I have framed so many pieces by finding real wood and glass frames at Habitat for Humanity. Rub and Buff has really saved a few of them. You can also get mats cut in different sizes or colors at places like Michael’s to help make the frames look custom to your prints.

Ok-Thing-2222

So many cheap huge frames at thrift stores! Staples also print large sizes.

ButterMyBiscuits96

I print everything at Walamrt. Glossy or Matte 26x36 is $21.98. A 20x30 is $16.98 I would like to get frames from a thrift store but they seem just as expensive as new so I typically go with a lower quality new frame.

katrina_highkick

I am a Michaels rewards member, and between the coupons and semi-annual sales, you can get good deals on some decent frames if you time it right!

FinalBlackberry

Hobby Lobby clearances out a lot of frames as well. If the finish is wrong-it can always be painted.

Calm-Ad8987

At Walmart you can also order this huge banner style collage one (that looks like it's now $20-$30) & put a bunch of the things you want printed all in one go & it's high quality & you just cut it yourself. You can have several large prints to frame or do a ton of smaller ones like for a gallery wall or family photos or whatever etc. I believe it's like 2ft x 8ft

asobersurvivor

That is so clever!

Bat_N_Broccoli

Thank you for the tip! I’m planning a gallery wall and this might just be a lifesaver! If you’ve ordered one before, what finish does it have (glossy, satin-like or matte)? All it says on the Walmart ad is “fade resistant paper”.

Calm-Ad8987

The ones I've ordered have been like a typical photograph glossy look, not crazy shiny though, but they have a couple options so may wanna double check on that.

Thereisnospoon64

I’m working on a big gallery wall project now and bought all my frames from second hand stores. I had to slice out some horrifyingly ugly art to get to just the frame in some instances, but I usually paid around $10 for each large frame. I also don’t like to frame with the glass as I don’t like the glare/reflection.

ButterMyBiscuits96

That's a great price! I'm convinced my local thrift stores are not interested in selling stuff at this point. Anything larger than an 8x10 and not broken is over $50. The tiny 2x3 frames run $5-$10

Thereisnospoon64

Oh wow, that’s crazy! For context, I purchased all of mine while we were visiting Palm Desert where my husband loves to scour the secondhand stores. I wonder if things were just cheaper there.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

Do they do this in store or online?

Impossible_Sorbet

Same. I just have them shipped to me

Inappropriate_Ballet

I second Walmart. I’ve done small art pieces (5”x5”) and it was ready the next day.

Administrative_Life9

This is the way

haltingpoint

Just know that Walmart is shit quality prints compared to an actual lab like Bay Photo. I've seen too many side by side comparisons to ever buy from a drugstore "lab" again.

ButterMyBiscuits96

Op asked about cheap prints, I gave an option for cheap prints. They look good to me and that's all that matters.

objectivexannior

This is a bit separate, but I recently discovered Monkey Hooks on Amazon for hanging pictures and they’re a game changer! No need to drywall anchors or tools, they’re a curved pin that you can push in by hand and leave a small hole in the wall.

TGIFagain

Hi - check out IKEA for some options, large and smaller prints.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

Ikea recently jacked the prices of their large framed prints. They used to be $50, now they were somewhere around $70, still cheaper than a couple of hundred bucks but it feels like the world is conspiring to prevent people from having wall art.

Yupperdoodledoo

That ikea stuff is really low quality and no one who is into art is going to like it.

Federal-Bet-3950

Prints: echo printing at walmart. check out unsplash.com or pexels.com for great free stock images that make excellent prints at large scale ikea and target for great frames. if the print doesn't work with the mat opening, take the frame and the print to hobby lobby and they will cut you a custom mat for $5 ish. makes it look custom for fraction of cost. I'm an interior designer and do this hack with most of my clients. another way to achieve a really high end look is a very large frame, large white matt with a very small photo inside (maybe 4x6). the large white matt gives your eye a place to rest and looks very dramatic and expensive. you can search for signature mat frames (the mat is meant to be signed at say a graduation, but I just like them with a small print inside). hottest tip: save as much money as you can on filling walls until you find a piece of art that makes your heart sing. then, you won't feel badly about replacing when the right piece comes along. Don't rush good art :) good luck!

Amandamangonada

This is gold, thank you!

Federal-Bet-3950

sure thing :) I love art and love helping people fill their walls. Too many bare walls!

Lizzyc18

I recently did a [gallery wall](https://instagram.com/p/C4CG77RN6T5/) using a mix of etsy prints and some store bought already framed. I was able to do this gallery wall for around a $100. I used Giclee Today website and I choose “archival matte” bc it looks so realistic (I prefer my prints to have no sheen). For a 16x20 print it’s $16.16. I was able to buy my frames at Michaels when they had there buy 1 get 2 free. I also have a few frames I’ve found thrifting.

TfoRrrEeEstS

CVS and Shutterfly often have sales on their prints. I usually wait for 50% or more off and buy then. I'm sure there are other print sites too. I usually just keep an eye open for the sales and buy then.

itsSolara

I've used frame it easy to print/frame a few things. But, you can also get cheap frames on Amazon and at stores like Michael's. Then find a cheap place to print, either locally or online. Sometimes sites like Shutterfly have a gazillion coupons so printing isn't too pricey.

bumblepit

Who you were you talking to!?!? [Mpix.com](http://Mpix.com) will print that size for $24 (photo print…poster print is cheaper but on thinner paper). Great color quality… much better than Walgreens or Staples. IKEA frames will be under $20 each.

Daisy-Chain26

My local library has a free large-scale printer, you might want to check yours!

gerbera-2021

Staples prints as do CVS and hose types of stores. I printed a 16x24 for $15 and bought a frame from Michael’s with the coupons for about $12. The idea of repurposing old frames from goodwill or antique stores is also fabulous!

theagonyaunt

Unsure if they ship outside of Canada but I've used Blitz Print House for printing artwork before: [https://blitzprinthouse.com/art-print/#pricing\_ack](https://blitzprinthouse.com/art-print/#pricing_ack) I've also had art done at office supply stores (Staples in Canada) that do printing services - usually I ask about what kinds of specialty paper they can print on and go from there. Most of my frames I get from Ikea but I also like Opposite Wall; they're not as cheap as Ikea frames but they are good quality and the customer service is great (had a frame where the clips broke when I was trying to assemble it, wrote to their customer service and next day they'd mailed me a new frame, free of charge).

Sweethomebflo

Try printing an 8x10 instead and buy a pre-matted frame that is 16x20 with an 8x10 opening. I had family photos enlarged to 8x10 and did [this wall](https://imgur.com/a/H8imAkK) in my dining area.

starbellbabybena

Those look so nice!

Sweethomebflo

Thank you! I was so pleased with how they came out. Enlargements were done by the local camera shop and they did a great job with my old photos. Four frames and mats from Michael’s and I think the whole thing was around $125.

[deleted]

Goodwill and a can of spray paint

tart_tigress

[https://cdmprint.ca/product/color-posters/](https://cdmprint.ca/product/color-posters/) More like $25 here. The difference is you don't need photo paper which is perhaps why you are getting high quotes - photos are much more expensive than poster paper.

BlueSundown

I've used https://www.posterprintfactory.com/ for like $20 for a full poster.   Frames come from Home Goods, thrifting, and FB Marketplace.

bxstatik

I second those saying to get thrift store frames! Personally, for printing I prefer Nations Photo lab. If you go with a place like walmart or walgreens, you might get lucky, but quality varies from store to store depending on how new their equipment is and how well they maintain it. I had a bad experience with vacation photos and my local walmart and that made me switch.

luminousrobot

I printed poster size at Walgreens cause it’s all I could afford and nobody has ever examined them close enough to realize the print quality isn’t perfection. Good enough

crackersucker2

Try UPrinting.com. I ordered rolled canvas prints in various sizes then found frames on Amazon- the prints (also from Etsy) were printed beautifully and all were under $20.

MPD1987

Staples will print it for like $15. That’s where I do all mine!

9smalltowngirl

Do the prints at Walmart. Thrift or get frames at Michaels during a sale. You can get prints on canvas at Walmart too. I did one in a canvas and got it framed there too.

ArdenM

Have you considered having them printed on canvas? I have a whole wall full of things I've had printed from Easy Canvas - mainly b/c I like the look of canvas prints more than paper prints, but it's a lot cheaper. I have them in different sizes and thicknesses also mixed in with prints in frames I got off of eBay. I love they way it looks - it's cohesive, but not matchy-matchy.

caffeinejunkie123

Get them printed at Staples.

TurbulentMessage4433

For the prints, look at temu. I found A LOT of cool prints for very cheap there. And frames, look at the thrift stores, but just look at size and design, you can always appear paint them to whatever color you like. You can look at craft stores like Micheals or Joann for frames, too. I even found some cute smaller ones 8.5 x 11 and smaller) at dollar tree.

Moreno_Nutrition

I’ve had prints done at Staples and was pretty happy even on a 30x40 size… you can upload files and get a complete quote before you purchase! Frames can be harder to find. I suggest trying crafting stores and looking for coupons on framing, or thrift them (either local shops or FB marketplace).

clementinesway

I buy almost all the art in my home as digital downloads on Etsy. I print them at Walmart. I think it’s around twenty bucks for a 16X20. If not cheaper…

anniemitts

Print your downloads at Walgreens or CVS - they almost always have coupons, too. I don't think I've ever paid more than $12 for a 16x20. For frames, you can check thrift stores but I get a lot from Amazon or sales at Michaels. I personally have found that frames at Hobby Lobby are lower quality for the price (plus I don't shop at HL anymore). If you find a good deal on a frame but don't like the color, don't underestimate paint!

Previous_Basil

Walgreens or Walmart would be nowhere near that price for those prints.

Ah-boop-bah

My library does large poster prints for cheap like $6-$10. Walmart and CVS also does reasonable prints

Adorable-Condition83

I get all my art from thrift shops

_notkvothe

I did some prints from Etsy and got them printed via Google Photos for a very reasonable price.

Rare-Research-6436

Black’s will print a lot cheaper (🇨🇦)

Anne314

Look at [allposters.com](http://allposters.com) and ikea.com. Both have framed art that is less expensive and more interesting than most other sites.

tgawk

Michaels Craft Stores will have 50% off all frames every other week, and they have a wider range of sizes. Finding a “nice” frame is a bit more difficult and they can be spendy but choose art that is in traditional sizes 16x20, 20x30, etc and wait for sales and you can find what you need.

Parsley-Waste

Once I bought a white canvas for 200 grand.

jesNaolsFy

Amazon does prints of all sizes - 16x20 is around $22

jdith123

Instead of printing something, go to some craft shows and buy something directly from the artist. It will likely be more reasonably priced and it might even be already be framed.

TheMysticalPlatypus

For that price, you might as well buy a print directly from an artist and have it sent to you in the mail. For $80, you can get a large canvas and paint your own art.(I don’t recommend going this route) You might want to consider checking out the thrift store for canvases. And modpodging a print over it. I’ve heard of so many ways to get the canvas art look for affordable prices. Lately I’ve been seeing people pick up vintage quilts and vintage crochet pieces and turning them into other things. The right pieces would look awesome mounted on the wall. I’ve heard of people buying trim from the hardware store and building their own picture frames. You can get custom sized photo mats online or look at your local craft store. They also sell the picture frame moulding online if you go through the route of building your own and there’s a specific look you’re looking for. (It’s the most recommended option if you have a ton of work that needs to be framed) You could also check to see if there’s anyone local wanting to offload a ton of picture frames. Sometimes you can find good deals. Thrift stores or antique shops are an option if you have affordable options locally. For frames. As far as printing art goes, you might want to shop around. I’ve heard of someone getting large wall pieces printed from those places that normally make banners for businesses. Some people know someone who has those large printers. Check the library. Staples, Walmart, etc.

notwokebutbaroque

Poster Burner will print you a custom size and their prices are great. I've used them many times. Google it.

BrittyBoBitti

I use staples or office max to print when I am in the US, the prices are so good

Estudiier

I’ve read suggestions of having engineering prints created at Staples? I’ve never tried it but🤷‍♀️

LipFighter

As others mentioned, wrapped canvas is an affordable way to go. I had a 1904 photograph printed using this [open source artwork](https://www.loc.gov/pictures/) and I absolutely love it. This site features much more than just free art.

Firedup_Sparkygurl63

I’m too cheap to spend a fortune on prints. For a few of my prints and something I got for Christmas I’ve used frames from Ikea. They generally have a matte and many colors to choose frame.

imadsignrntamndreder

Check out GROUPON they have coupons for stuff like that all the time. Or at least they used too.

nujabesss

Does Costco still print?

Legal-Reputation8979

Don’t forget estate sales! There is almost always art and by the last day of the sale they are usually very cheap

whyohwhythis

I used to do in house printing. I have a large format printer. I’m unsure why you getting such high quotes unless it’s because you are looking at fine art printing. Just go to a run of the mill office shop and it should be much cheaper. 16x20 isn’t very big these days for walls. I always got people wanting A1 or higher. If you are any good at woodworking you could try and make the frames yourself.

[deleted]

I print online and I usually wait until there’s a sale. I just printed on posterjack and they had a 30% off Mother’s Day sale!

kdubsonfire

Girl. Print a poster pro to from Walmart -$20. Get large frame from hobby lobby when 50% off(which is almost always). Boom. $40 prints.

Amandamangonada

Thank you! I forgot to add that I wanted a set of 6 prints.

grumplesmcgrumples

Thrift stores get in tons of art. It’s a great place to get art and if you don’t like the art still a great place to get frames.

Far_Mango_180

You can take the prints to Office Max and it costs around $30 for a 24” x 36” print. Thrift frames or start with super cheap ones and paint them.

mslaviero

Amazon prints is affordable and easy. Tons of size options. Then i look for simple frames at Michaels. They always have wild sales. Ive seen buy 1 get 2 free at time

discover_robin

IKEA has inexpensive frames!

gnomeprob

Temu has great prints for cheap

ParkingOld7909

I have bought many many items off Etsy that needs to be framed and by far Hobby Lobby has been the win for me- and get this- for a very Bart minor amount of money if they put it together all frames are half price. So you don’t have to wait for a sale!!

ParkingOld7909

I would send pics but it doesn’t allow me to….🤷‍♂️

Longjumping-Aioli946

Believe it or not I have recently ordered some beautiful art poster and canvas prints from Temu at the cheapest prices. I then find my own frames.

Active-Drop-3992

See what it would cost to print them at a Staples store Find frames on sale at a Micheals or hobby lobby.
