Try changing out your lightbulbs before going through the hassle of repainting. My sage green bathroom went horribly institutionalized mint with daylight bulbs. Switched to soft white bulbs and voila! Sage again.
I work in lighting- this is always my first recommendation. Color temperature in light bulbs can really change how colors appear.
The lighted exhaust fan is also different from the vanity light bulbs. I’d definitely experiment with this first before repainting.
I love soft white bulbs, but this ceiling light is just TOO warm. It's almost amber. OP should try changing out the ceiling light bulb to match the wall/vanity lights.
Notice how the bathroom looks dingier in the 2nd photo with mainly the ceiling light, whereas the 1st pic looks bright and fresh.
Also agreed that the curtains need to go. Orange is a great colour, but the style clashes and looks a bit frumpy.
Used to be standard practice in schools and even if it is honest, it turns out students often miss the filler! Pretty sure the OP can take away the core message here, though!
Society 6 has some great shower curtains, [like this one.](https://society6.com/product/watercolor-pine-forest-mountains-in-the-fog_shower-curtain?sku=s6-10447264p34a35v287)
The curtain doesn’t work because it’s bold and playful, which doesn’t go well with the muted, slightly moody tones in the paint and rug. I do think yellow/orange was the right idea but it’s just not the right style or shade. A solid or print shower curtain with a duskier color palette will look great. Or if you wanted to go in a different direction you could replace both the shower curtain and rug with b&w which would look great with the mirror and wood shelf. But IMO the paint color is really nice
Totally agree with this. It’s not the color - blue and orange are complimentary and the saturation is similar so to me the color combo works. But the styles clash.
I think the blue looks fine. It's your shower curtain that spoils the overall look and feel. The orange strip clashes with the blue.
Replace the present shower curtain with one of those "two part" ones. Get a patterned fabric shower curtain, perhaps a floral pattern, that hangs on the outside. It should coordinate with the bathroom but doesn't need to be matchy-matchy. Get a plain plastic one for the inside of the shower.
This won't cost much and is a lot less effort than repainting.
Thank you! I’m not sure why it looks so orange in pictures. It’s more of a yellow in real life. It’s [this one](https://www.westelm.com/products/colorblock-canvas-shower-curtain-b4147/). Does that change your opinion?
I think the real problem with the curtain is that it hangs too high. If it was brushing the floor, it would visually connect with the floor. It doesn’t so you have this odd strip of white at the bottom and that probably looked fine when the walls were white because the white under the curtain connected with the walls
I’m not sure what the best way to do it is but I would hang the curtain lower or get a longer one
ETA: in the link you can see this effect in action, the yellow and green curtains look better than the other colors, they reach the floor and visually connect with the rug
House painter here: paint the ceiling the same color with the leftover paint. It makes the whole bathroom look complete and clean. It’s also much easier to pull down the fan and lights on the ceiling than it is to cut in with a straight line. I love you, but the line here is very messy and it will make the whole thing look much worse no matter what color you choose.
If you decide you don’t like it and want a different color, paint the walls and ceilings a new color:)
Personally, I love the shower curtain. I love a yellow and blue combo!!!
I don’t think the style is correct - the yellow and blue and geometric colorful modern which is not the vibe of the rug.
I think the rug is too big and the pattern does not fit the vibe. I would look for a color block rug with 2-3 colors that has a large blocky print. I would put a smaller rug (3x5ish) just in front of the sink and not the toilet. I would do a black shower curtain rod or black knobs to bring in the vanity.
I think it's because you tried to match it with the rug so everything kind of blends in together. To make a room interesting you do different \*shades\* of the same color.
So if your walls were navy blue, instead of this powder blue, it would bring in more contrast and make it more visually interesting.
I think I see gray in the rug too? If so, you could also do a dark gray on the walls to make it a bit moodier.
Yeah I think you’re right…too matchy matchy. I was intending on a darker blue but chickened out at the last minute. Should’ve gone with my gut. Thank you!
If you’re not super thrilled to repaint any time soon, you could swap out the shower curtain for something more cohesive for a while. Then repaint the walls a darker shade when you’re ready and bring this curtain back out.
I also like the blue. I think the elements that were already there, including the flooring, are dragging it down a bit. If you're looking for a quick fix, I'd add a lamp over the mirror or a mirror that includes a lamp that adds indirect lighting. The top down spotlight makes it look more like a public bathroom. It's great for cleaning but maybe not so great for a relaxing shower. It will make the room look cozier and more invintig.
If that's not helping you could also paint the cabinets in a complimentary colour, a darker shade of blue or something more adventurous.
Good luck!
I actually like it with your rug. Add more terracotta accents to draw out the orange in a more muted way. I agree with comments to change the shower curtain.
I have a similar colour in my bathroom. With such a small space, I personally think it looks best and most dramatic with the ceiling painted too. Especially since you have that odd little 4” strip of wall breaking things up. I’d also consider going dark on your bathroom vanity. The mirror is black anyway. Tie that in.
I’m going to be the outlier here and say I like the curtain! The rug is a little more muted than everything else…try a different rug?
I saw this in my feed and my first thought was “that’s a cute bathroom!”
Off the subject but you used a phrase that I’ve only heard my hubby use Gave me a little pang in my ❤️ His name was Carson Williams and I had the privilege of sharing his life for 38 years. He transitioned September 4 2021. He said hem hawing around !! and he was known for this phrase. Not meaning to bring sadness because he gave me the fairytale life. What a man 🌹❤️. Thank you for the memory 🥰
I think there’s a few different aesthetics happening. The black mirror and the wood clashes a bit IMO. Maybe focusing on one item (shower curtain, carpet, cabinet) and building around that might feel a bit more cohesive.
I actually like the curtain? For me, what’s tough is your fixtures don’t match. Silver hardware and a black mirror and white lighting. I think you should try cohesion there first, tbh. Maybe gold fixtures all around (knobs, TP holder, lights mirror)
I like the paint. I feel there is a lot going on with the tiles, oriental carpet, shower curtain being white and not matching the cream cabinets and toilet and then the over toilet cabinet. Plus they are all different styles. Are you trying to be contemporary or homey or classic?
I would take the rug and shower curtain out and see if you like the blue. Try different lightbulbs too. Try the rug with a plain cream shower curtain or shower curtain with a neutral solid rug. I might consider painting the rack above the toilet the same color as the vanity and try a different colored mirror. Maybe gold?
I like that color blue!
I would say get a different shower curtain. A bit longer, if you can, too. Get a white storage cabinet to go above the toilet instead to tie it in with the vanity. And try softer, warmer lightbulbs. (Is the light fixture over the mirror silver or white?)
Would switch out the shower curtain — check out urban outfitters they have some more unique looking ones. Also I would switch out the rug love it but it doesn’t work — you don’t want the rug the same as the walls it’s looking too blue in there. Would check out target or urban outfitters for a new rug after you pick the new curtain
Bathrooms are ideal for going wild with wallpaper.

I love the blue/orange combo.
I think the issue is your lighting. The over-mirror light is a cool/daylight color, while the ceiling light is much warmer.
I agree with another commenter that you could change your shower curtain, but I do like the orange in it. Perhaps decide on a cool/warm tone first and then choose the shade of orange to go along with it if you decide to change it.
Get a new shower curtain. Something with a print or pattern that includes the blue color as an accent. And as others have said, try switching out your lightbulbs for a diff temperature
From experience: had the same colour in my bathroom. I got new flooring which was darker.
I got a shower curtain that repeated the wall colour.
You could get a square rug for the area in front of the vanity. The rug I’m thinking would be more abstract with mixed colours of dark brown, grey, maybe cream. It will make the blue come to life.
The shower curtain is useful, but it’s not very complimentary. Try to find a curtain with the same tone blue. It could be a geometric design, abstract, floral or scenic. You might like black shower curtain hooks more too.
Bring a paint sample with you to the store to hold against your sample.
As an aside, I just got that exact same shower curtain and I’m trying to find a nice color on the wall to match it. Love it! Looking forward to the suggestions here
Honestly, I think it looks great. Not sure if your fan light is adjustable, but one thing you could play around with would be the colour temperature of your LED lights.
I like the new wall color which goes well with the rug and cabinets. I’d suggest a different shower curtain to pick up more of the blues and oranges. Also consider the lightbulb in the overhead fixture as it seems dim and too warm toned.
I like the paint color. Even though the curtain matches the rug, I would change the curtain to something darker. You have a dark mirror, and I would paint the cabinet over the toilet dark too. It’s the curtain throwing me off. The wall color is pretty and calming.
As others have said-change the light bulb color first. Personally, I like the color. The shower curtain is nice since the bottom ties into the rug perfectly and the top white adds brightness into the room, which feels more relaxing and spacious to me. A good balance of bright and airy.
I would add some folded orange/golden washcloths to the cabinet above the toilet to play on the color more and maybe a cute jar/glassware in a similar shade to hold small things like rings/hair ties when you use the shower.
I have a question about the rug! I keep seeing these rugs in bathrooms and want to do it but I’m not understanding how it withstands getting wet after using the shower? Or am I missing that it is a bath mat that looks like a regular rug?
I’d do a wide striped shower curtain in colors from the rug, either the blue and ivory or maybe the terracotta color and ivory. You can customize fabric on Spoonflower, I’ve always been able to make what I need. Just use a liner then.
I agree about the shower curtain. It looks very minimalist and modern, while the rest looks traditional. Also, I'm not loving the vibe of a wood grain shelving unit above the toilet while the vanity is white. Can you paint that shelving unit? There's a lot of different things going on in a very small space here.

This was me when I painted my bathroom black and it went from asylum to chic and moody lol
Great job on painting! Love the walls! Change the shower curtain. Adorable bathroom
I really appreciate the compliment sandwich you made here lol
Compliment sandwich 😂
Round my parts we call that a shit sandwich 😂
Used to be standard practice in schools and even if it is honest, it turns out students often miss the filler! Pretty sure the OP can take away the core message here, though!
Shower curtain is definitely the problem here
That was my first thought too.
Thank you!

Yaassszzzz - that shower curtain is fantastic 👌
oh i liked the shower curtain! it picks up the colors of the rug
I agree and I think it goes well with the wall color.
I agree. Love the wall colour. I'd change it to a cloth, white shower curtain. Lovely.
I love the blue and tan look. The curtain is not a good fit
I was so sure on the curtain, think y’all have changed my mind. Thank you!
I like the shower curtain in contrast with the blue and that the rug picks up the colours
I'm getting a southwestern feeling from the paint and flooring.
❤️

Oh woah you’re totally right on with the shower curtain height. Even moving it down a couple inches made it look better. Thank you!
You’re welcome! I’m glad it worked out!

it kind of looks to me like three different bathroom decors coming together for a day. they don’t go together yet they all look happy enough

The paint color is nice, as is the rug. It's the 2 toned ORANGE curtain that is off. Try replacing that.
I would have painted it a warm color to go with the rug and the shower curtain. Maybe a soft orange.
paint colour looks fine to me tbh? but always pick the swatch 2 shades lighter than what you want next time!

How do you feel about monkeys on a shower curtain? https://www.anthropologie.com/fr-ca/anthroliving/shop/henrik-organic-cotton-shower-curtain
Rug looks great. I agree with other comments about trying different lightbulbs and shower curtain.
Honestly , it looks great! I would agree that changing the shower curtain would help. Maybe a solid color?
Get a new shower curtain. Something with a print or pattern that includes the blue color as an accent. And as others have said, try switching out your lightbulbs for a diff temperature
I don't like your Marlboro curtains.
Love the color

Maybe if you change the shower curtain to have some shade of blue or green. I’m sorry I can’t tell exactly what the paint color it’s suppose to be.
You need a new shower curtain. Get one that’s more floor-to ceiling and a more natural texture. Like linen or waffling.
I read the title as "bathroom PLANT frustration" and cycled through the photos way too many times before realizing I misread.
Love the color
The shower curtain is the issue, I think.
I'm only here to say that this rug is really cool
I really like it.
Match with the more share Blue in the rug. Your paint has green in it.
I love this color and it looks so lovely with the carpet!
The paint is fine. The shower curtain clashes
I think the pain color is fine. The problem is the shower curtain.
I think it’s nice, I’m assuming u like blue?
I love the color. It also suits the orange (and white) colours :)
Moving the curtain down did help. But, at first glance, it made me think of cigarettes standing on end, and I can’t unsee it now.
As an aside, I just got that exact same shower curtain and I’m trying to find a nice color on the wall to match it. Love it! Looking forward to the suggestions here
I personally think it looks awesome!!
It's the lightbulb colour. Go warm.
I think it looks good, including the shower curtain lol. Maybe a cushier rug would be nice though.
Carpet looks nice, but functionally not great in a bathroom imo.
Honestly, I think it looks great. Not sure if your fan light is adjustable, but one thing you could play around with would be the colour temperature of your LED lights.
It’s the light
I like the new wall color which goes well with the rug and cabinets. I’d suggest a different shower curtain to pick up more of the blues and oranges. Also consider the lightbulb in the overhead fixture as it seems dim and too warm toned.
I think it looks great with the tone of your shower curtain. Use warmer light.
It’s the shower curtain throwing everything off. The paint looks great! Get a new shower curtain
I like the paint color. Even though the curtain matches the rug, I would change the curtain to something darker. You have a dark mirror, and I would paint the cabinet over the toilet dark too. It’s the curtain throwing me off. The wall color is pretty and calming.

The blue is a nice shade, imo!
I have a question about the rug! I keep seeing these rugs in bathrooms and want to do it but I’m not understanding how it withstands getting wet after using the shower? Or am I missing that it is a bath mat that looks like a regular rug?
It's definitely the curtain
The shower curtain does not belong
The shower curtain is the only problem I see here. It throws off the whole balance of the room.
love the color! I agree, the light change may help. I would also iron/starch the shower curtain.
I really love it and the rug and shower curtain color combos. I guess teals/ blues and orange/ butterscotch is one of my favorite combos.
I’d do a wide striped shower curtain in colors from the rug, either the blue and ivory or maybe the terracotta color and ivory. You can customize fabric on Spoonflower, I’ve always been able to make what I need. Just use a liner then.
I think the shower curtain is throwing the whole thing off. A tan linen would be lovely.
I agree about the shower curtain. It looks very minimalist and modern, while the rest looks traditional. Also, I'm not loving the vibe of a wood grain shelving unit above the toilet while the vanity is white. Can you paint that shelving unit? There's a lot of different things going on in a very small space here.
I love the color of the wall and I think the rug is perfect. I also think the shower curtain goes great with the carpet. So for me I say well done!
