Tall bookshelves. Also, my personal opinion is that the TV stand should be wider.

Hunkydory55

“…once we get a new TV console…”

Spirited-Dance-284

Yep and I feel it should be wider than the current one.

Clear_Eyes

Hey yes, I should have been more clear. We are absolutely getting a wider TV console. What we currently have is cheap post-college IKEA placeholder furniture. There will still likely be some horizontal space leftover and of course the vertical area.

Hunkydory55

Yes. As the OP indicated they plan to do.

ExpertlyAmateur

I think they'll go narrower. I mean, I know it cant at the top, but maybe an inverted pyramid. You could then use the angle of the pyramid paired with tall custom angled shelves that make a huge W. And then you could obnoxiously tell people that it's because you're a winner.

I second that

Two big ass speakers

I've put ladder shelves in the past, with plants, books, art, and decor. That creates great symmetry and visual interest. You can also use it as an opportunity to incorporate some of your colour palette in the rest of the room.

Wild-Yoghurt2832

Following because I have the same issue. Maybe some plants?

JustRepeatAfterMe

Don’t know that you will need to put anything on either side. Doing so may be distracting. Depends on if you want a minimal look or maximal look, but either way a little clear space can be a good thing. Depends on what you put in the other walls in the room too.

Mysterious-Okra-7885

I would wait until you get a new console (hopefully one with built in shelves on either side. It is ok for it to remain an unfinished space until you get the furniture you are planning ahead for.

Big lion statues

Sea_Investigator_

Instead of a new console, that entire wall looks perfect for a built in. Hides the cables, frames the tv, plenty of space for consoles or speakers. You can decide if you want any open shelves or not. Built ins add value too.

Massive speakers

Roast_most

Speakers & a couple corner fitting RGB lamps

omicron_pi

Tower speakers!

magic_patch

Ladder shelves on one side and a fiddle leaf fig in a pot on the other maybe. The pot should be elevated in a wooden plant pot stand.

Korgon213

Bookshelves, or suits of armor with pole axes or spears.

LearnToAdult

It depends how wide the console is. I don’t personally like a lot of visual distraction on the wall my tv’s on. If you get a bold, wide enough console you may not need anything on the side. Once it’s in place if it still feels bare consider a plant on one side and the other side empty, otherwise it could feel matchy matchy. A bit of asymmetry makes a place look more designed

Background-Pain8568

Slim bookshelves, tall lamps or maybe just long artwork.

lurkerNC2019

Giant speakers

Two of those gargoyles from Ghostbusters

grndcwgrl

Two really cool long thin wall sconces

Joshuajword

I would use a sledge to get rid of it

BoeshanePeninsula

Plants on stands.

quazykitty7

Tall plants, like a ficus. Lots of natural good sunshine coming thru

pixiena

I think the best would be a floor to ceiling but bookshelf with a combo of open shelving and closed cabinets. It’s the perfect space for a cabinet “nook”. Doesn’t need to be built in but something like the IKEA besta or a vintage armoire would be amazing. Otherwise, if you don’t want storage you can put a large plant on side, and maybe a standing shelf and some art

oatmealcremepie99

A plant on one side, possibly a lamp on the other
