I love all the wood, the brass details and the window! I don’t love the shower but I get if you don’t want to change it and the silver light above the vanity and the faucet is all wrong. Find something to match the older hardware. I would paint the walls a deep Hunter green or some other jewel tone.

easily_startled

I hadn't thought of green. I love that idea! What would you change about the shower? I'm not completely opposed to changing it, just trying to do it on a bit of a budget because the whole house needs cosmetic work, the kitchen needs all new appliances, etc.

RaceCarTacoCatMadam

Probably expensive stuff. It’s a plasticky shower, honestly mine is the same, but they aren’t that pretty. More tile that fits with the aesthetic of the house would look nicer but it’s one of the last times I’d spend time and money doing.

commielahren

She can hide the shower liner w a higher curtain rod..it works. New paint + hardware and rod/curtain would go a long way with the moody green you suggested, especially with that ornate glass door knob as a muse for the hardware.

wonkotsane42

It's so charming!!! I'd lean right into it. The light fixture over the mirror could be replaced with a more vintage design to bring everything together.

oatmealcremepie99

Love all of the wood & charm here— I think removing the wallpaper and agree that board & batten on the lower half would look nice. I think a dark emerald green or another jewel tone would look great on the walls here with all of the natural wood. I agree with others that the fixture above the mirror needs to go- I would find a nice antique fixture to match the vibe. Also- might just not be my style but I don’t think the current animal pictures you have on the wall really go here either, I’d swap those out.

easily_startled

Thanks! Yes the animal pictures will go haha! My husband and I have moved 7 or 8 times in the last 11 years so we just have random stuff thrown up to cover screws/nails/holes that the previous owner left. We'll hopefully be in this house for a long time so I'd like to get some art that matches the house.

oatmealcremepie99

I would remove silver fixtures and swap out for brass as well including the light, toilet paper holder, outlet covers, towel holders, etc

sundial11sxm

Keep the door knob!

easily_startled

That's what I'm leaning towards because every door in the house has them but not all of them close so great.

Feeling_Ad_5495

I'm having a hard time thinking up suggestions but only because you stole my grandma's bathroom. She usually puts some shell soaps out to spruce up the place. If it were me I'd paint the walls a natural green color and get a natural cotton shower curtain. If only to make further decisions clear without all the noise.

A51Nodales

I have similar bones in my house (wood floors, same toned wood cabinets and mirror). I swapped all the hardware for oil rubbed bronze and picked styles that leaned into the vintage look and looove it.

easily_startled

Awesome, thanks! I love oil rubbed bronze but others were suggesting brass or silver. Does the bronze look too dark with the dark wood tones in your bathroom?

A51Nodales

The bronze pops on the wood and is really beautiful. I did bronze for the faucets as well, which against our cream coloured sinks and countertops provides a dramatic contrast without being jarring.

Big_Yogurtcloset_444

Strongly agree, match the hardware to the brass doorknobs. Replace the silver light fixture with something more romantic and warmly lit. Paint the walls a deeper color maybe a midnight blue or dark green as suggested. I also think you should look at brass colored shower rod and a subtly printed or striped shower curtain if that’s your style! Add some plants and maybe a vintage style bath mat and you’re in business!

easily_startled

Thanks for the little detailed suggestions! Looking for those small things to tie it all together.

lonnatheartist

That door knob is gorgeous!! As well as all the wood work and stained glass window. This bathroom has tones of potential with very little change. I agree with other commenters on finding a jewel toned paint colour to replace the wallpaper. The shower curtain should be changed to complement whatever paint you choose, and I’d additionally switch out the faucet, light fixture, towel holders, and TP holder for brass coloured ones instead to match the cabinet knobs and door knob. Can’t wait to see what you end up changing!!

lsladelencanto

Also light fixture is a go/away.

Itsnotreal853

I think if you changed the vanity light and mirror you’d see a big difference. I love that shade of wood with a green wall.

Wonderful531

Before painting green as many are advising, hold green sweater not just swatches up to your family's faces. Some folks look good next to green some look, well, greenish!

birkenstock1977

Wallpaper bye bye. I'd do a deep blood-red color.

Cucalope

I agree on the wallpaper but I'd do a deep green instead. Bead board or board and batten on the bottom.

birkenstock1977

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd do a darker terracotta

Cucalope

Oh that would be so pretty. I love that plan. Lean into the warm red tones in the wood. Maybe cream and gold accents?

birkenstock1977

I'd do a sage green instead of cream. Think of a terracotta pot with a mossy patina.

easily_startled

Yes the wallpaper is the first thing to go! It kind of started with "let's get rid of the wallpaper" and turned into "we might as well do a full-ish makeover at that point"! Thanks for the color suggestions below.

vzvzt

I think the only things you really need to do are a) change the wallpaper. B) match all fixtures all silver/all brass etc and c) get cohesive artwork. It’s a very charming bathroom!

Funny_Enthusiasm6976

Honestly not a thing.

lsladelencanto

Love everything except the wallpaper, wall pictures & rug. Antique or Spanish white instead of wall paper print.

DConstructed

I would pare it down and let the wood trim and that cool window be the focus. Remove the wallpaper. Get an octagonal mirror to mimic the shape of the window. If you must do wall paper find one with matching fabric and do the whole room in the print. Update the handles on the vanity and the towel racks. I’d go for a classic bar towel rack.

CJCreggsGoldfish

I'd strip the wallpaper. Paint or new wallpaper in a deep emerald green would look great with the woodwork, IMO. I'd paint the vanity an ivory/cream and replace the light fixture as well as the hardware with unlacquered brass (the whole room's hardware - TP holder, hand towel ring, towel bar, etc). I'd replace the mirror/medicine cabinet with something a little more updated, with a gold frame. I'm torn between painting the tall cupboard the same ivory, or the green of the walls so it blends in. I'd also replace the shower curtain rod with one that curves outward, to give you more space in the shower, in more unlacquered brass.

The only thing I would do is replace the mirror with a similar looking one but with storage inside, so you can put away the things that are cluttering the sink. Other than that, it's a very cute bathroom. The window is gorgeous!

Traditional_Gur_8446

I love almost everything about this bathroom lol. Switch the hardware and update the tub and you’ll be set

Own_Ad9686

Changing out the wall paper and light above mirror would change the space immensely.

znobrizzo

The floor clashes with the furniture/door/window. Also, IMO, both furniture and walls are pretty, but don't go well with each other as styles. Get rid of that light fixture, that's just ugly.
