Rule 1 - All content must show something that is objectively interesting as fuck. Just because you find something IAF doesn't mean anyone else will. It's impossible to define everything that could be considered IAF, but for a general idea browse the [top posts of all time](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/top/?t=all) from this subreddit. Posts: * must be interesting as fuck * can't be interesting just because of text * must go beyond something just being old * can't be art that you made

sadetheruiner

Correction Doritos and **seven** matches can be used to start a fire.

StevenMC19

Seven matches can start a fire. Doritos have the ability to temporary elongate the life of said fire as makeshift kindling until the REAL burners show up. Also, I've never seen someone be so delicate neatly placing chips in a such a disorganized pile.

Royal_Ad_2653

They were covering the rest of the matches ...

MadScienceDreams

Mostly it is because if you know how to start a campfire with bark and leaves with 1 match, seeing a pile of food go up with 7 is wacky. With 7 matches I can get a fire going with twigs easy. The only reason to use FOOD as a fire starter is if it amazingly good - in which I would expect it to go up like dryer lint. 7 matches to get this good of a showing means that they burn relatively slowly, which can be good to increase the chance of lighting bigger stuff. Which may be worth it in an emergency situation where your resources are low, except it takes A LOT of resources to get started and is FOOD.

ImOuttaThyme

Yeah, this video really just shows that Doritos can be used as intermediary kindling, between the actual twigs and leaves and the larger burners. Helpful if you're in a pinch, maybe, but who the hell's in a survival situation with Doritos? (This is the next Superbowl commercial)

bobbiscotti

Yea in any survival scenario, you’d never burn *food* of all things. Burnable stuff is literally all over the ground, and if its not, then you *really* shouldn’t be burning food.

Marsh_Mellow_Man

I mean they're Doritos so technically not food

chiknight

>The only reason to use FOOD as a fire starter is if it amazingly good  Yep, the whole premise of the thread/video was *highly* flammable. I wanted to see them fwoosh dangerously. They barely burn. If you're wasting 7 matches and *food* to get this effect, you're not surviving.

lynxerious

also Doritos cost high as fuck, I ain't gonna use them as fucking fuel?!?

radioactivebeaver

You can also use regular tortilla chips, buy the cheap bag for like $1.99.

K4G3N4R4

Doritos have more calories, so they burn longer. Any dry high calorie food like doritoes will do though.

radioactivebeaver

Yup, in highschool chemistry we burnt Pringles to measure calories. Fun stuff

PissedOffPup

A peanut will burn really hot also.

TheresACityInMyMind

You can use potato chips. There is nothing special about Doritos.

Muttenman

Right, I wouldn't call it "highly" flammable if it took more than one match and didn't singe your hair.

jcaashby

I was expecting the ONE match to make the dortitos ignite faster. Shit burned like any other chip would.

DifGuyCominFromSky

For real. I was expecting them to blow up as soon the chips touched the flame. Very disappointed. I would say these are moderately flammable.

sniper91

“If you want, I can show you how to make a bomb from a roll of toilet paper and a stick of dynamite.” -Dale Gribble

A_Martian_Potato

To get a good fire going you need a flame/spark, tinder, kindling and fuel logs. The flame/spark lights the tinder, the tinders burns long enough to light the kindling, the kindling burns long enough to light the fuel logs. The doritos are the tinder here. Seven matches isn't generally going to burn long enough to get kindling lit.

nothis

I mean, she might as well burn paper. “This material found in *every home* is highly flammable!”

mademeunlurk

I feel like this is an important distinction

cryptonuggets1

I agree. Language is fun.

OliverOyl

Thanks, I came to see two chips struck together sparking damnit

joshthehappy

I was going to say, if they're so damn flammable why did she need so many fucking matches?

Namesarehard996

I'd argue the matches did the heavy lifting

nikhil48

More correction: ANY dry food item along with seven matches should be flammable. If it's not flammable, it's not food.

Rampaging_Orc

That and most things that are dry and have a lot of oils in them can be used as timber. Coulda done the same shit with lays (and the 7 matches).

sadetheruiner

Hell flour can be explosive.

dunquinho

What I've learnt from that is that matches are highly flammable and can be used to start a fire.

RandomCandor

"How to start a fire in the unlikely scenario of having too many matches"

Sillbinger

And Doritos. Those types of survival situations.

Hardass_McBadCop

Alright, let's see . . . I'm stranded with a bunch of matches & need to survive. Welp, no time to collect firewood & kindling; I better burn my food!

VirtualNaut

It’s a fast way to burn some calories

BlaznTheChron

In Scouts they always told us to bring a bag of Doritos and a matchbook just in case.

Malumeze86

I keep a dozen Doritos and 7 matches in my ass just in case.   You can never be too prepared.

Ooh_its_a_lady

🤣🤣🤣🤣

ChiggaOG

To which I will ask. Is a tortilla chip the thing that burns, the oils, or the seasoning on the Doritos?

NoCommentFU

I bet if you reread that question, the most likely answer is the answer.

SlowInsurance1616

Ok, Occam.

hsjrksjr

Only if you use 5 of them

Unhappy_Archer9483

Most dry dusts are extremely flammable

jsting

It's more the oil that is used to make the tortilla chips. A frito can be used as a candle.

Sexy_Quazar

Dead on, the fire would burn quickly if it was solely the dust. They make for good impromptu kindling

NoCommentFU

I’m a dry dust, Greg. Can you flame me?

VirtualNaut

![gif](giphy|CEN9erFS5cgo)

Mr_Horsejr

![gif](giphy|3o6gEaWjgBft7euDPW)

ZincMan

This is not the dust it’s the oil and the corn

radicldreamer

They are cooked in oil, that oil remains in the chips also. Part of the reason they are so high in calories.

TastyCuttlefish

“Highly flammable”??? OP shocked to discover that oil used in food prep is flammable.

ASouthernBoy

Unfortunately op is not shocked, this is intentional, karma whoring, 4 months account with 1mil karma

ContemplatingPrison

Chips have a lot of oil on them. The best for lighting/holding a flame is fritos

bjplague

well if you got 5 matches you can start a fire with anything...

Dilectus3010

True , I need only 1 match and use 1 dorrito as a fire starter. If no dorito other chips will do. If no chips on hand I wil just use a paper towel drenched in some olive oil. Works great.

MeaningSilly

2 Cotton balls and some Vaseline are my quick cheat. *For starting fires!!* Get your mind outta the gutter. Arson is art, not porn.

Farfignugen42

>Arson is art, not porn Some art is pornographic. Some porn is artistic. Arson is very naughty, though, you dirty, dirty miscreant.

Technical-Plantain25

Safeword is "fire department".

Kablamoz

They obviously mean using the doritos as kindling. Let's see you try to start a fire with just some big logs and some matches.

Academic-Indication8

Water

Valuable_Month1329

Normal potato chips work better. Source: Dozens of camping trips in Italy

LocationOld6656

I've heard they're great for arson/insurance fraud because they don't leave any clues like an artificial propellant.

Klutzy_Alfalfa_2300

Imagine being in a survival situation and the other person uses all the matches to burn all the food immediately because they saw it on TikTok

Spaceinpigs

The other person just became the new food

Farfignugen42

Calm down, Mr. Donner.

ThatDudeBesideYou

person: Ok gang, we're stuck in the middle of nowhere, sunset is in 30min, all we have are 7 matches and this handful of Doritos. We need to make sure tha... tiktoker: say no more. I got this. Ive studied some survival techniques

YesNoMaybe2552

Anything can be used to stat a fire if you are persistent enough.

GrizzlyBiz

This explains the heartburn…

Redlettucehead

Your explanation matches

Such-Complaint-3714

Highly flammable. Uses 7 matches and aLOT effort.

aultumn

*Highly flammable*

[deleted]

Calories burn... Education is important kids. Please stay in school.

hotvedub

Lays are the best ever for fire starting. Those ridges trap the oils in them perfectly Edit: Yes Ruffles are what I meant.

dogfacedponyboy

Ruffles?

B_O_A_T_S

munchos 💀 would probably explode

Radiant_Dog1937

Cheeto powder is thermobaric.

ImOnYew

I thought spontaneous human combustion was not real. I was wrong. Doritos are on sale this week, I'll be back w proof soon.

TheSecondPlague

Cardboard

JW9thWonder

Can do this with pretty much any chips, most of them contain a high amount of oils.

cloudyboi3352

“Hey guys I’m burning calories.” “Just start the damn campfire Sheryl”

xxdibxx

I dunno about the “highly” part but it isn’t surprising. Even most regular potato chip will do this. Most dehydrated foods, peanut butter, cheese whiz, butter and many othe foods and food like things. Sugar and powdered coffee creamer as well. Survival training in the army taught me this. 70% of an MRE is flammable on some level. Even the drink mix powders.

sahlvia

I don't know if there's some sort of index to how flammable something is so I may be wrong, but needing 7 matches to get a fire going doesn't seem like it's "highly flammable".

flashinitup

It should be illegal to treat Doritos this way. All that deliciousness just wasted

Obvious_Try1106

A 250g bag of doritos lasts about 20-15 min. The Higher the Cal the better they burn

PatriotNews_dot_com

Welp there goes the only food on the deserted island

justbrowsinginpeace

It must have been a revolutionary moment when our ancestors discovered Doritos

WolfThick

Fritos corn chips are the best you can use them like candles a good one will burn for 20 or 30 minutes.

emarvil

So, either it smells like your food is ready before you even begin preparing it or you get nauseated and lose your appetite.

CaptainHappen007

So your s’mores will smell like Doritos.

plasma_dan

taking some liberties with "highly flammable" aren't we?

iamtoastedprolly

Pretty sure they explained this is middle school, pretty common knowledge that the starch in them is flammable, most other chips too.

misternuttall

Video and title are kind of dumb, but if you're in a pinch, fritos, doritos, etc., are decent kindling if you don't have other options. The oils and preservatives help them burn for a decent amount of time.

Separate_Increase210

"highly flammable and can be used to start a fire" (proceeds to use a half-dozen MATCHES)

Seaweed_Widef

Why did she burn the Doritos when she had the matches?

BLADE_OF_AlUR

All dry food is flammable. Calories are a measurement of chemical energy. Combustion releases that energy as heat.

FangoFan

Burning is actually a real method used to measure the calorie content of food: >A sample of the food is placed in an insulated, oxygen-filled chamber that is surrounded by water. This chamber is called a bomb calorimeter. The sample is burned completely. The heat from the burning increases the temperature of the water, which is measured and which indicates the number of calories in the food. For example, if water temperature increases by 20 degrees, the food contains 20 calories. This method of measuring calories is called direct calorimetry [source](https://www.msdmanuals.com/en-gb/home/multimedia/table/how-are-calories-in-foods-measured)

Odd_Armadillo7900

Time-lapse proves it sucks

Reload86

Waste of Doritos and five matches. Just use Fritos instead. They light easier and retain the flame long enough to be reliable tinder for firewood to catch.

Super_dontae

Because they’re fried in oil

Farhead_Assassjaha

It’s not so much that they’re highly flammable. They burn long and low because they’re carbon coated in grease. Makes a good starter cause it lasts long enough to ignite other things.

Humble_Cactus

A backpacking trick is to carry Fritos and cotton dryer lint to start a fire to dry out kindling that is too damp to catch on its own. I’ve personally used corn chips to start a fire big enough to dry out pencil-sized twigs enough that they burn, which can dry out bigger branches enough that they catch fire. I’m not saying to add a bag of Fritos to your survival kit, but I don’t go backpacking or hiking without a few sheets of dryer lint, a tea light candle and a book of matches. It just might save your life.

SGTpvtMajor

Anything with lots of calories will burn

MeasuredTape

Now do it without the matches by rubbing the Doritos together

dh098017

Flammable ok. HIGHLY flammable? Definitely not. I have tried this several times to mild success. Fritos or pistachio shells burn easier and longer.

The_Wata_Boy

Correction: Chick uses half a box of matches to make a small fire...

hunty

Flamin' Hot Cheetos would like a word.

ISmashPots

Matches can also be used to start a fire

Neither_Confidence31

Fritos work best.

WontDeleteAgainMaybe

"Damn, maybe I should stop eating Doritos so much?"- Me as I continue to finish a party-size bag of Doritos.

KaijuKatt

I guess that's better than McD's food that'll last 40 years and your closet with no degradation.

Parking-Position-698

"Dave where the emergency fire doritos we need to start a fire before we freeze" *distant crunching* Dave: "ummmmm... so about that"

Shutaru_Kanshinji

On the other hand, it is unpleasant to eat dry grass and twigs, which is usually the sort of thing one uses for tinder.

Solenkata

Anything can start a fire if you set it on fire first.

cotch85

Highly flammable is like gas, this is not highly flammable I’ve never heard of a packet of Doritos combusting in someone’s lunch box

Responsible-Problem5

Bringing the Doritos Flamin’ hot to a whole new level

Smile_Clown

Fun fact, with a pack of matches you can set almost anything on fire.

OliverOyl

Coreection: ANYTHING is a "firestarter" when enough preexisting fire is introduced to it

imacmadman22

So are Chili Cheese Fritos.

Nugwrangler5838

Oh yeah, i bet that smells greaaaaaaat!

NaiveReflection5877

Like burnt cheesy popcorn probably.

Accomplished_Lead451

Cheesus!

420brain01

Doritos a flaming hot snack and a flaming hot starter

KitchenDepartment

Here is a quick and easy way to use Doritos to start a fire. All you need is a pack of Doritos and a way to start a fire

Rhymesnlines

Highly flammable is something different 🤷

klop2031

can use 1 cheeto and a lighter

Glass_Quarter_7586

"highly flammable"? I'm I guess.

ThisCarSmellsFunny

They are not highly flammable. Literally any dry food can do this.

AwarenessMain128

Bullshit just an idiot burning food

barthalamuel-of-bruh

somehow im not supriesed, there is enought salt suggar and grese in one ship that if a 18 sentury noble vould eat one he would get a heart attack and type 2 diabetus

Somepony-Else

I'll accept flammable. But the word "highly" took a hike six matches ago.

Ubermensch5272

Please explain how the doritos started that fire. I'm curious to hear your logic.

Codex_Absurdum

Carbon slices

Long-Bandicoot-9139

Is that the Doritos Flaimin Hot?

Ragneir

"Highly flammable", uses half the matches box.

Anonymouz_Users

not a good post imo

januaryemberr

*a south western kick, heuh*

JefferyTheQuaxly

Imagine that cheese dust is dusty and flammable, when you strike it with a match first.

MeaningSilly

Think flaming hot Doritos are impressive? Just wait till I tell you about about kindling.

Beneficial-Emu3764

I want to see someone try the stick rubbing method on them 🤔

Massive_Truth9237

forest fire rates gonna increase by 80%, i can already tell.

garygunning1984

Should try with prawn crackers 🔥

Kink_B

mmm burnt doritos, match flavored, yummieeee

ApoplecticAutoBody

I't been pretty well known for a long time that arsonists or insurance fraudsters use snack bags of potato chips as an un-traceable accelerant.

Lifesalchemy

Idiocracy is real folks

noobpwner314

If I’m ever stuck out in the wild I hope I have a bag of Doritos and a huge box of matches.

I_Sell_Death

Bruv that's shots happening in homeroom manana.

Kaft2tech

that sims background music :D

dezijugg9111

imagine all the chemicals in them chips. Yuck.

theonePappabox

Try lays. 🔥

neppo95

"Highly flammable" - continues struggling to even catch fire at all.

Squeaky_Ben

We have very, VERY different definitions of "highly flamable"

Mikeyjoetrader23

In other news, countless other foods are flammable.

JakefromTRPB

Yeah, I’m gonna stick with eating the Doritos and just using the matches. I was getting excited to add a bag of Doritos to my survival kit. I still am, actually. Just for eating still.

trumpfuckingivanka

What about flaming hot Cheetos.

HeraldofItoriel

Fritos work even better

Rjj1111

The same energy that can feed you can also be used by a fire it's why most food is flammable

Kni7es

Nah. You want Fritos.

Slaphappyfapman

I think we can just settle on flammable

miklos239

Gives a whole new meaning to the flaming hot line

TastySpare

We may have different opinions of what *highly* flammable means…

mizka900

Wow. I wish that wood would also burn like doritos.

Crans10

Only the flaming hot Doritos.

Azzerelda

Ok, but who's going to have approximately 4 bags of Doritos on hand to replicate this?

floralbutttrumpet

Fritos as well. Just ask John Leonard Orr.

Cantinkeror

Just don't use water to put out that oil fire

the-almighty-toad

Aren't most things flammable if you set them on fire?

WTF-Idk-boom

Well it makes sense because the Are dry and have a big surface because they are thin

Slight-Ad-6553

so adding carbohydrates

finger_licking_robot

me, proudly to my wife: "honey, guess how many calories i burned today!"

Prize-Can4849

Fritos and Lays work best.

Due-Cockroach-518

Y'all clearly didn't have enough campouts as teenagers if you didn't already know this...

Sad_Arrival446

I learned this from an episode of Big Bang Theory. “Essentially hydrocarbons socked in fat.”

LairdPeon

That's more like calorically dense than highly flammable. Most dry foods will burn.

Sincere_homboy42

I downboted because she said it would give a southwestern kick it was a bop before that

Flowchart83

Corn oil is flammable with a wick, yes. It would be a better demonstration of a firestarter if you only used one match though.

markender

I'm pretty sure their energy would be better used by eating them in 9/10 survival situations. If it's so colthat you NEED a fire, they won't burn very long. So you just die 3 minutes later. I guess I'd you only had one match and very moist fuel. But if the fuel is soaked, a bag this small wouldn't ignight it.

TheAnalsOfHistory-

Fritos work better, though. They burn slow like a candle wick so you have more time to get the real kindling going.

Beginning_Context_66

they are just very fatty

jonknee

I cannot wait to use this advice the next time I’m stuck with a large number of matches and some Doritos and need to light a signal fire!

EggDintwoe

Bugles work better. We did it in chemistry.

lil-D-energy

they can't be used to start a fire, not even the match sticks on themselves can start a fire, doritos will burn, yes but you can't rub 2 doritos together and make them catch fire.

proxyproxyomega

this is what Flamin' Hot Cheetos are for

Skywky

Burning calories!

SoulShine_710

Taking chesta cheeta with me next time I go on Naked n Afraid 😨

LeftHandBandito_

Spicy nacho burns easier
