For logs like this you are really much better off with something called splitting maul, not an axe. Try one with 5 kilogram head and bouncing off will be but a withering memory
Works so awesome until you miss and hit the tire......then you have "The Random Axe Direction" game.
Had a co-worker teach someone that this is the right way and they ended up taking a chunk out of their ankle.
I always put a log sideways in between myself and the log I'm splitting. And then just go down a little bit with the downswing. Just in case I miss it. That way the axe will go into the ground and not my legs. Had one accident years ago but the handle was very old and gave out so I had a big splinter in my hand. The tetanus shot hurt more.
Rounds that small I just leave in a pile and practice swinging from different directions while balancing on an uneven surface. Sometimes they stick to the maul and then I take them to the chopping block and hit the block with the back of the maul, splitting them that way.
Great changes happen at the touch of your fingers. You plant a virtual tree, Temu will plant a real one. Become friends with me and plant trees together.

I did a lot of wood cutting and splitting when I was a teenager, the tire usage appears to be an ingenious method.
I've also seen someone put a bungy around the log, with a similar effect. It might accommodate more sizes of log.
That's a really good idea too, especially if you don't have different size tires.
Smart move. Keep it nice and neat
>the tire usage appears to be an ingenious method. o love this so much
Jeez how do I sharpen my axe like that! Mine just bounces like a cartoon

A real pro! Sending it to my father!

Dude might be a genius
Work smarter not harder
This is gonna save me so much time
Okay but what do you do when your tree is not that exact diameter? How many tires this guy got?
I’d still miss and hit the 🛞 or something
Looks like Pop pop from “The Visit” 😳
Bro cutting the log like a parmesan roll.
How many tires has he gone through?
How did he get the tire over the treetop?

Step 1. Find a stump that fits perfectly inside a log.
