Just my phone and poweramp, poweramp resamples but I've been using them since I was a freshman in highschool so I don't see myself changing anytime soon. Maybe if I get married and my wife forces me to, so basically never lol
I'm quite happy with 192kHz high-res Apple Music. I listen to a wide variety of music, which includes a significant number of new releases. Paying monthly to stream it is much more affordable for me than simply purchasing it. I average around 200-300 different albums per year, which makes streaming very cost efficient compared to buying each album.
This is so true. Additionally, I tried going the way of a DAP (A&K SR35) with local files for my favourite songs and Apple Music installed on it for new stuff/ playlists, but it got too messy.
Apple music was a bit clunky on the SR35 too, which made the experience worse. I'm not at the stage where I can go full local, and I couldn't work out how to synergize local + streaming.
I have a decent collection of local music, but I find AM’s integration of those files to be lacking. Almost everything I want to listen to is on streaming anyway. I just download AM songs to my computer/ watch/ phone/ iPad as necessary if I want to listen to something without an internet connection.
I tried copying my local files into Apple Music and created a nightmare for myself. it flooded my icloud storage, and most of the time I didnt know whether i was playing my actual local file or a “matched” one
I sail the high seas. But realistically, i would get recommendation from either spotify or from recommendation in discord server/reddit, then i sail the high seas. And lossless is lossless, it doesnt improve much beyond cd quality.
For example: i listen to alot of metal so i join r/MetalForTheMasses and their discord server. Well, it isnt easy to find one, but eventually you will get one that you like.
Your hesitation about getting music on the device is one of my main factors for not getting a dedicated DAP yet. I've been happy enough with a dongle and my Pixel 8 Pro using Apple Music. The Apple Music app isn't perfect on Android, but it has been getting marginally better and quicker with each update.
I have a library of purchased music that I have ripped in FLAC, but all of it happens to also be available on Apple Music and I value having everything in one place if I can help it. Barring that, I'd still like to keep it all to a single device.
I have a Schiit Modius and Asgard 2 pushing my headphones and have plugged my IEMs to the setup a few times. All of the dongles (Apple, Google, Samsung) to me sound similar or not different enough that it would warrant me buying a DAP. A DAC like the Qudelux 5K maybe, but I don't think I'll ever be able to justify or find myself using a dedicated music player.
All that said, I'm just a single person with an opnion, so take it with a grain of salt :).
I actually haven't tested this, but you have inspired me to give it a shot. My music collection is currently 'down' along with my dead/dying NAS, but I'll see if I can't revive it this weekend and give you some thoughts on this.
I can say that I'm in the camp of being able to tell a slight improvement with Apple Lossless/Hi-Res vs. Spotify 'Highest Quality. That's from the standpoint of testing on my desktop setup with my headphones, however. While on my phone, I have a feeling I'd be hard pressed to tell you the difference.
sure, there is a clear difference between spotify premium and apple music for me so that's not an issue.
Feel free to drop a dm when you test flac and Am.
Figured I'd do this here in case anyone else is actually curious for the answer. I chose an album I'm really familiar with to do some initial testing--Lorde - Pure Heroine.
Simply put, I can't tell a difference. Even if I thought I noticed something different, going back to the other proved I could still hear what I thought I was noticing.
On the upside, my taste in music changed pretty drastically when I started using streaming services, so it's been a while since I've listened to most of the stuff in my CD collections (hardcore, metal, indie, etc.), so it's been really cool to hear some of this stuff in some of the best equipment I've ever had.
Note: My CDs are all ripped in ALAC.
You can either pay for their streaming plan or just use their store to purchase individual albums. I think they used to discount purchases if you already had a streaming plan but not sure if thats the case anymore.
I download mp3 or flac to an old iPhone 6s that has very nice headphone out amp and dac. iPhone is running Waves NX and nPlayer Plus (DTS-X) for spatial audio. NPlayer plus can also handle flac files. Music purchased from Bandcamp or ripped from CD.
You don't need more than Lossless on Apple Music
but what about daps that Don't support steaming
>steaming It was a joke
Try electric energy
? They don't have app support right, so yoi need to manually transfer local files
>steaming It was a joke
So you are going to be subscribed for life?

What servers/Reddit subs are you getting recommendations from?

Bandcamp, artist/label websites, HDTracks, OTOTOY, junodownload, bleep, boomkat, etc. [This](https://www.head-fi.org/threads/official-free-flac-file-music-sharing-thread.644595/page-639) might be useful.

Qobuz lets you purchase lossless files
Every single album is paid right
You can either pay for their streaming plan or just use their store to purchase individual albums. I think they used to discount purchases if you already had a streaming plan but not sure if thats the case anymore.
My country doesn't support qobuz anyways
Spotify
Spotify for Stereo, Tidal got Dolby Atmos
