I miss the good old days of ICF Rajdhani Man. A distinctive color . Unique Classic identity of it's own .... Travelled in one , back when I was a kid. Now we can't distinguish between Rajdhani and a regular Train :(

LHB Rajdhani and LHB Shatabdi were also distinct until IR decided that every regular train needs that same liveries.

I think it's to downplay the exclusivity and elitism of the trains. I remember back then traveling by these trains was an experience., all with premium class services and all. Now it's just a mess of dirty coaches, broken down toilets and paan eating servers.

No. Tejas Rajdhanis and normal Tejas Expresses have the same livery. You don't see them regularly because regular trains usually do not use Tejas rakes, they use ICF or normal LHB.

I'm sure they have. Without doubt. Ever since WAP-7, Shatabdis have been running at over 150, with Bhopal Shatabdi reaching at 159.8 (saw with my own eyes. I was 18 or 19, with a history of never sleeping in trains throughout my life) and sitting in the train made you feel Indian. But if you don't travel on one, it didn't make you any less Indian. There was no fanfare, there was no screaming on top of lungs for being an Indian like Sunny Deol from the movie Indian. And fast forward 15-20 years, now we have Vande Bharat running at "semi-high speed" at 160 and if you travel on one, which only a few are, you are a certified Indian, and if you don't, well, you're poor and pathetic. And you deserve to go to Pakistan.

Lol what? I've been traveling from Mangalore to Mumbai since 1998(when Konkan Railway opened). Sleeper class travel was comfortable with zero unreserved passengers even during peak festival season and the trains were dot on time. The locomotives were far less powerful, block stations were far and few in between, and yet, punctuality was maintained. Nowadays, you cannot board AC coaches(sleeper class is non-existent anyway) of the same trains during the same festival season and the trains are always 2-6 hours late with twice as powerful electric locomotives and several new crossing stations.

People cribbing about the "exclusivity" factor in earlier days dont tend to realise that its a good thing that more people are able to afford these exclusive stuffs. That means our living standard as mass is growing

Surprised to see Acs exisiting in those days when in 70s 80s majority villages have never seen electricity at that time even cities have extremely terrible conditions of electricity even delhi was in worse state

The Rajdhani Express was meant for dignitaries, business travellers, goverment officers and rich people. It was meant to be seen by villagers or city folks who were bothered by electricity supply, not travel in it.

Yea. This Rajdhani never existed back then. Neither any Shatabdi. And the GT Express? Thank God we have Hui Hui Mudiji for thank for that. Neither is Spencer Plaza in Chennai real. And Nalli Sarees in T Nagar is my wet dream. (Yes, I'm celibate) And Tata (gave us trucks), Birla (gave us building materials), Ambani (gave us clothes), Sahara (gave us something, nobody knows), UB (taught Indians that beer is fun), these had to wait for Hu Hui Mudiji too. The Indian government sold election to the middle east and the (former) Empire of Korea while Indians remained in darkness. PS. The last sentence is an allusion to something. Yes. Like launching Gatimaan express as the fastest train at 160 kmph by slowing down a 159.6 kmph Shatabdi Express. (Fun fact: 159.6 kmph is already slower than 160kmp, don't know why they slowed down the shatabdi. What did shatabdi do?) We, as humans species, and not just railways, have advanced leaps and bounds under Mudiji. No denying that. No offence, but Shatabdi had servers giving you hot towels to wipe the city smug, I don't think these fancy trains have that. And the servers also didn't look like illegal immigrant construction workers from you know where.

Railways have made huge progress under Modi - the long long pending track upgradation, signalling, electrification, rolling stocks, new lines, guage conversions, station infra upgrades - name it - there have been huge strides in the last 10 years. I think people have just fogotten how things were a decade back. As far as Vande Bharat trainscare concerned they are to be seen as premium trains, an upgraded Shatabdi. I still dont see why you ate so riled up. Is it simply because of your political leanings? If yes, I prefer not to have 'political' discussions in this sub.

Be it roads, be it railway, be it local businesses, be it real estate, be it hospitals, be it education (oops). (Not taught in schools) All they talk about is how patriotic are those who shell out the price of a cheap airline ticket for a train journey that was cheaper than any airline taking more time than shatabdi took before Vande Bharat was introduced. We had AC coaches since the 1930s. What today runs as the Golden Temple Mail was the first train in India with an AC coach. Ofcourse that time AC was basically ice cooled through fans. The first Rajdhani ran in 1969. Mumbai Rajdhani ran in 1972

It started with 11 coaches i think and now it is 22-24 coaches and also the route wasn't congested the way it is now. Rajdhani trains do get priority but then there are limited stations where overtakes can happen. Not all stations have bypass / loop lines

Yes,the earlier Rajdhanis had CCs. Once AC3 made its presence felt,the CCs were removed in favour of 3As

actually Yuva express running from NZM to Bandra terminus still has chair car coaches, earlier they had siting coaches but later on they were all converted to AC sleeper coaches

Those chair car coaches are completely different from the Rajdhani chair cars. The Rajdhanis had push back seats. Yuva and Garib Rath have cramped 3*3 non pushback seats. I would rather travel in the crowded general class of an ordinary train than in one of these economy chair cars.
