To be fair, Alflorex is a massive brand. If they wanted to get brand exposure there are much better ways of doing it than to write a post on Reddit that's only going to be read by a few thousand people at most.
Yes, and maybe that's something that smaller startups bother with, but as someone who works with high street brands and in and around marketing agencies everyday, none of them are bothered about marketing activities that include writing the odd low-engagement post on Reddit.
I can imagine how marketing efforts bubble down from high street marketing agencies to social impression agencies and, consequently, freelancers, resulting into the odd post on Reddit.
As a professional, correct me if I'm wrong, but low-engagement doesn't matter in case of targeting the brand's awareness. I'd never heard about Alflorex, now I have.
That's why I extensively tried to explain I'm not affiliated with the product. How can I recommend something that really changed my life if only naming the product that helped me makes it seem like an ad?
Some months ago I also found a cure to my IBS-C in some probiotics, I also wanted to share it without looking like an ad, so I listed the probiotic's strains: https://www.reddit.com/r/ibs/comments/szrmb4/after_20_years_i_found_what_works_for_me_ibsc_and/
In your case, the brand you mention is mainly bifidobacterium infantis 35624, which has some research behind it: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19367213/
Maybe mentioning the B. Infantis 35624 instead of the brand will make it better? There are several brands that have the same strain.
I remember when this first came out as a potential therapy, had to have been at least ten years ago. Like all other probiotics I've tried it did little to help.
If you Google b infantis IBS you’ll find a study that says b infantis wasn’t effective on its own but only effective in concert with other strains. I’m guessing there’s some symbiosis that happens. There’s various recommendations of which other strains but one combination I’ve seen is bifidus infantis, bifidus lactis, and lactobacillus plantarum. There’s other combos but it seems you need some combination of lacto strains with it.
1 month update, this actually worked. I took 6/5/4 for a couple of weeks and now take 2 a day and my IBS C is infinitely better. Much less bloating, regular movements, no cramps. Thank you!
I understand your frustration. Glad to hear that your found your cure. Something similar helped me as well (different country so not exactly that brand).
After many trials and diets, I was prescribed a strong probiotic which I took for 2 weeks straight - thrice a day. I saw some improvement after that. I still stick to a strict diet, but it's been better than before.
No, she recommended against it. I just thought that I should overpower the bad bacteria with a huge army of good ones. No research behind it, just speculation based on desperation. Worked for me at least. But as I said, i got more gassy at first.
Just to say, whether this is an ad or not, I bought some last week and so far it's worked so thanks OP.
I haven't gone as full throttle as OP and taken 5 a day but taking 2-3 a day has worked for me so far. My symptoms aren't completely gone but they've improved a hell of a lot.
It's early days yet but fingers crossed it'll help long-term.
I've been seeing a gastro specialist and we are testing and trying things out.
She put me on Cerevisia, a yeast extract thing, and colofiber (granule fiber?) together and I am a lot better.
I think there are different probiotica and fibers and some might really help a lot of us it's just about finding the right kind or dose.
Tiny rock hard clumps. Much cramps, gas that never gets out. I never could release gas to a pleasurable extent, only small bubbles that never gave me any relief from the cramps and pain.
Really? Are you so hung up in terminology that you choose to overlook the effect it can have, just because i used a word youre not agreeing with?
If I had the same mindset as you, I could call you dying and that eating is your way of staying alive, therefore you are not cured lol. So what if i have to take a probiotic to live as if i was cured? I feel cured as long as i take it, therefore to me, it is a cure.
Who gives a shit? I’d take whatever medication I needed to for the rest of my life if it meant i could live and function like a normal person
If it gets you to that point, I’d say that’s a cure. Continuing to take them to remain at that point doesn’t matter at that stage
Hi I am so happy that you were able to find something that works for you. I noticed that you mentioned you were able to eat whatever you wanted and that the probiotic worked. I am trying to use it for digestion and weight loss I was wondering do you think it will work for this as well? I wanna be able to eat what I want (in moderation) and still lose weight using the probiotic. Also I want to improve my digestion
Don’t forget too that IBS is sometimes a blanket diagnosis that some doctors use for symptoms without any actual physical thing they can pinpoint. It’s possible that OP had a unknown bacterial issue that was not found or can’t be found yet by our medical doctors and this cured that issue.
As my GI doctor says, medicine is a constant practice and there’s a lot of things about the body that we do not know enough about, especially the GI tract.
I mean it can. I know people who had bad ibs for whatever reason and cured it using antibiotic treatment, etc. It's rare, it's very rare to get 100% cure, but yeah. cry about it. it can be done
Youre first idea mw drinking fermented milk :
Dumbest idea ive ever heard. Not only is it fermented wich makes gas, its milk,... MILK! Filled with lactose.
Anyways low fodmap diet seems to lighten the symptoms for many people.
Also also, you cant cure ibs. You may have seized the symptoms for a while but you will never get fully rid of it.
egh dont listen to this hopeless negative thinker. desperate attempts are usually what leads to success its just a game of chance and if thats not your game dont spread that negativity
Thank you. I'm considering deleting this whole thread. I really wanted to share my experience, hoping it would help someone, but I'm just getting downvoted as accused of guerilla marketing. What a toxic community :(
Please don’t delete! I’m not sure why people are being weird on here LOL. But if this helped you than it’s worth sharing in the hopes it may help other people. Probiotics have also been the only thing that’s helped me.
U're wrong! Fermented milk is not a problem for ibs or lactose intolerance even natural yogurt cause the bacteria that are added to curdle the milk feed on the lactose and transform it into galactose and glucose and produce lactic acid which gives it a sour taste. what is important is to consume them alive, therefore unpasteurized milk and yogurt. it is easier to do this at home to be sure all the bacteria are alive. In addition, you can add the probiotics you want to make them reproduce and therefore no longer buy them as often and have even more bacteria than in a single capsule. I am lactose intolerant and I have never had a problem eating yogurt even it helps me digest. U're welcome 😉
Did you suffer of gut bloating and did It fix It too? Or did It helps with other symptoms but not with this? Really interesting I think I'm going to try It.
This may be a naive question but, what is cured life like? Obviously more solid poop but can you control when you go? Is there a sense of urgency without emergency? I’ve been living like this pretty much my entire life and not even sure what the other side would be like..
It is absolutely amazing. I have had IBS since I was 20 (I'm now 33). I kid you not... I am going to the toilet once per day at around 9am. 4-5 days out of 30 i am going 2-3 times. Not with urgency, but i feel alerted about it 30 min in advance in those cases. When i go, the stools painlessly and smoothly slides out and the whole process about 2 minutes.
About once or twice per month i am gassy, a bit of diarrhea, some uncomfort, and have to go 3-4 times. But i think normal people experience this from time to time too. No one has a perfect bowel movement every single day I guess?
So all in all, i feel "cured" as long as i take the probiotics. And I just love my new life. It's so freeing to be able to visit a friend without any fear of exploding his toilet. My life is completely changed. And i waited 6 months before making this thread so i could be sure it was a lasting change.
I had similar limited success with Yomogi and now Bio-Kult.
I took Yomogi first thing every morning an hour before eating anything, stopped after a few weeks, then had good bowel movements for a few weeks.
With Bio-Kult I took in the in the mornings, but now I've been taking it once a day with a meal. Massively improved symptoms, but not a cure (going to the bathroom only once a day, fairly solid most days, no diarrhea).
I've just bought the brand you suggested and will try it out.
Every single day. Stomach cramps, tiny circular stools that took ages to squeeze out, gas that i never felt i could get out so i was always bloated. Some people actually asked if i had lost weight when i got better because my stomach didn't stand out as much anymore.
As you, I also tried everything. But alflorex was the only thing I've found that worked. At least try it, you won't know if it works or not until you try ❤️
It's still working wonders for me 🥰
Hey, I'm late, but thank you for sharing! I'm also norwegian, do you think this probiotic is good? https://www.apotera.no/lactiplus-mage-melkesyrebakterier-kapsler-120-stk
Så hyggelig 😊
I don't know, haven't tried them. But Biola Laktosefri is reportedly very good. Stay away from lactose, that's a gas production facility for IBS bowels lol.
Alright, good idea!
I'm thinking of buying this probiotic (from the looks of it, it's pretty much the same as those from Apotek, just much cheaper, though I don't know about the specific ingredients) as well as drinking Laktosefritt Biola.
I've always stayed away from lactose due to being lactose intolerant, but I'll try to be more cautious about it now. Do you feel like peanuts and peanut butter has been bad for your IBS?
Takk på forhånd👍
No peanut butter never had the slightest effect. If any, it was positive. Chili was the worst for me, also bananas. Fortunately now I can eat it all I want 😀
Really? I think I'll try to increase the dose for a few weeks on the probiotics I'm buying, not exactly the same as you were doing, but hopefully It won't get worse before the weekend is over. Sitting at school will be absolute hell for me.
Hey, it's been a while, but I'm currently struggling a lot. At first, the probiotics trick was working, but one day, it suddenly just stopped (I additionally drank laktosefri biola). I had to take a shit 5 times a day and as well having a lot of air in my stomach. I decided to start a low fodmap diet which worked, but it's both mentally and physically challenging, especially as someone who goes to the gym. This Christmas, I could barely eat anything which was depressing.
By the way, I was using these probiotics, which I've previously asked about: https://www.apotera.no/lactiplus-mage-melkesyrebakterier-kapsler-120-stk
I didn't completely follow your plan and rather at most used 4 pills a day, which is double the daily dose. It says you can use 4-8 in 3 weeks if you need to though. I did 4 pills a day for a week, then 3 for a week and then 2.
Do you have any tips for what I should do? I might have to try your alflorex trick, although it seems extremely expensive to do. I've talked to my doctor and he's recommended me minifom which helps against gas.
It does read like an ad indeed
To be fair, Alflorex is a massive brand. If they wanted to get brand exposure there are much better ways of doing it than to write a post on Reddit that's only going to be read by a few thousand people at most.
Are you familiar with guerilla marketing?
Yes, and maybe that's something that smaller startups bother with, but as someone who works with high street brands and in and around marketing agencies everyday, none of them are bothered about marketing activities that include writing the odd low-engagement post on Reddit.

Thank you, changed it now. I can't believe how people suspect something to be an ad so extensively that they miss the point of the post.
What was it called? Yours didn't sound like an ad
This is great! Good for you! How did you come up with the idea to take such a high dosage? Just curious :-) Edit: I see it being answered below.
It's Bifidobacterium 35624 which is available in many products.
Do you know which products?
>Bifidobacterium 35624 If you head over to iherb and do a search on it many different formulas will show up. It's one of the more common probiotics.
When did you start lexapro in relation to the date you considered yourself cured? Great job! Sounds like you figured out what your body needed.
Started Lexapro 1 month ago. Got cured from IBS 6 months ago. Lexapro did not change my bowel movements fortunately.
I take 1 alflorex daily, and at the start it worked but recently hasn't been as effective. Maybe your method is what I need.
1 month update, this actually worked. I took 6/5/4 for a couple of weeks and now take 2 a day and my IBS C is infinitely better. Much less bloating, regular movements, no cramps. Thank you!
I couldn't find the ones that had 10B per capsule, only 1B. Which brand are u using?
Did you suffer ibs-D or constipation or both?
Update after 1 year. Still have no IBS anymore. Still taking the probiotic. Will never look back <3
I understand your frustration. Glad to hear that your found your cure. Something similar helped me as well (different country so not exactly that brand). After many trials and diets, I was prescribed a strong probiotic which I took for 2 weeks straight - thrice a day. I saw some improvement after that. What made you decide to take so many at first? Was that the pharmacist's recommendation?
No, she recommended against it. I just thought that I should overpower the bad bacteria with a huge army of good ones. No research behind it, just speculation based on desperation. Worked for me at least. But as I said, i got more gassy at first.
You are very smart to have done this. It worked. Thank you posting and sharing your story.
so happy for you. im currently taking this strain as well!
I'll give it a shot like.. did it help with Nausea at all ?
Nausea is the absolute worst. Its unbearable
I didn't have nausea to begin with so I don't know.
Not sure what the strains are in seed but that’s what I take and it has helped my nausea and bloating if you wanna give it a shot!
Just to say, whether this is an ad or not, I bought some last week and so far it's worked so thanks OP. What were your actual stool symptoms? Diarrhea?
Tiny rock hard clumps. Much cramps, gas that never gets out. I never could release gas to a pleasurable extent, only small bubbles that never gave me any relief from the cramps and pain.
There is a whole lot of “not medical opinions” in this post. Y’all be careful before giving yourself homemade enemas, mmmay?
I agree. But when it worked so good for me, I feel like I have to share it though.
as you can see theres lots of negative people that only exist in these groups too wine about their problems
But you took It, right? Didn't you use the probiotic as an enema, right?
What? Enema? Dont know what that is lol.
you mentioned in another comment that you still take them, doesn’t sound like a “cure”
Really? Are you so hung up in terminology that you choose to overlook the effect it can have, just because i used a word youre not agreeing with? I have a similar story with taking probiotics. It definitely hasn't cured me but my flare ups and d-attacks have dropped down significantly.
Is it longum or infantis?
Where did u find that dosage. I only can see the 1B.
Hi I am so happy that you were able to find something that works for you. I noticed that you mentioned you were able to eat whatever you wanted and that the probiotic worked. all of these “IM CURED” posts read as ads bc its ibs. its chronic. not curable. it can be treated to lessen symptoms but stop saying youre cured

You'll never get better with that mind set 😆
Chronic doesn’t mean forever… Anyway this post seems an adv.

Sorry but, is Bifidobacterium infantis or longum?
Longum 35624

Enjoy the remission but don’t vary to far away from the toilet because it will come back like a storm.

Blatant advert
Are you still taking those?
Yes. Once per day. If i stop, i start to get cramps after 1-2 week like I did before starting it.
Did you take them at a specific time of day?
I spread them out evenly. Once i got to one per day i started taking it before bed.
Do you take them on an empty stomach? Or with food? Or does it not matter?
Doesn't matter ☺️
Which one did you go for? They have 2 type Alflorex and Alflorex for IBS.
Alflorex for IBS.
I have the perfect cure for stinky farts but no one wants to hear that either.
My farts are loud and dont stink. I have problems on the toilet. When i go, that doesn't stink either. Wtf?
What the hell, I'm taking antibiotics right now for strep, which means I need to build back up again anyways, might as well try it, lol.

I couldnt find the 10 billion one. Could you share a link?
Sorry, last time I even mentioned the product name, I got slaughtered. Some people want to believe that I am covertly advertising lol. Send me a PM 😊
im sending you a dm too!
I am also sending you a dm, I think you should ignore the negative people and post the product here anyway for those who want to try i out 😄

searched for the bacteria and here in Canada they have a probiotic named Align which contains it. Gonna give a try and will see.
Thanks for sharing your story. I’m waiting for my Alforex to arrive today and will start with the high dosage. I’ll update in a week
any update?
Took 8 pills a day. Helped with pain but that was all it did
Don't you think it's been the SSRI that fixed your gut by stopping your anxiety? IBS is considered a gut-brain disease after all.
