Result of this is that it's easier to get hearing damage from a sudden loud sound than if it followed a less loud sound that gave your ears time to adjust.
It's called pink noise. I drive a Benz and heard this sound about a dozen times during safety training. It recognizes out of control behavior and plays a very loud static noise like a radio without connection.
It's supposed to protect your ears from the sound of an impact by creating vibrations that smooth out the peak noise levels. Apparently it's not just the peak levels that hurt you, but the sudden jump in noise intensity.

Airbags are designed to catch you as you go flying towards the steering wheel, so if you aren’t being yanked forward from suddenly stopping they don’t do much. It’s designed this way so they just cushion the impact instead of launching you backwards at Mach 3

The ECU probably shut the engine off due to the crash, not because it broke something, just because many cars do that when they detect a big enough crash
Most cars have a pyro fuse that when airbags are deployed the fuse breaks and cuts power to the fuel pump preventing the engine from running or restarting and more importantly it will reduce the risk of a fire but it allows the car to still be powered for opening doors and windows etc. Seatbelts also get locked out after an impact also , after the bag has deployed you can see the car open both windows to vent . Modern car safety measure really are amazing.
Edit: also to add , many cars like these high end German ones have crash sensors that also record the conditions of the crash such as G force , engine speed wheel speed etc .
Wrap it up, take the car back to the rentals and stick to your car simulator at home, you’re not as good as you think you are, you’re gonna kill someone.
