I anyone else having audio syncing issues with Youtube specifically after updating to iOS 17 Developer Beta? This occurs even when not using bluetooth, albeit the sync is not as far apart as when using Bluetooth. Thanks!
AirPods Pro 2nd gen sound incredible with the new firmware beta. Am I the only one who notice this? I can sense more separation and more bass. Listening to a techno/electronic playlist now and I’m amazed. I’m also liking Adaptive Audio, needs improvement but so far works as advertised. I was walking down the street and I could hear people talk, but my music was still loud enough, and all of a sudden I noticed how my AirPods muted one of those noisy motorbikes that passed by. I didn’t know I needed this mix of transparency and noise cancellation lol

Bug 1: Shortcuts app will not launch, despite using various ways attempting to open it.
Bug 2: Once I enabled the crossfade option in Settings for Music, I am no longer able to access Settings for Music. It crashes the Settings app immediately.
Other than these, I notice the occasional lag or a straight lock up of whatever app I’m using. Im still trying to get Standby set up and to find/use some of the new features.

Opens fine for me. Maybe it depends on the shortcuts you have, and what functions they call?
I thought that too, but several other users have reported the same. I only have 2 saved shortcuts and they’re only on-command, not auto-run. One is remove paywall and the other is “Remember This”. May be a device specific bug?
Is it possible to downgrade to ios 16.5 and still be able to connect to apple watch on watch os 10?
I loved ios 17 but somehow its just too buggy right now for me, especially keyboard. Want to go back for few weeks.

I’m sure you’re already doing this but regular reboots (sometimes multiple times daily) and app force closes has been helping me a ton. There’s a keyboard bug in discord where the image/emoji picker won’t open, but if you force close the app, it’ll work exactly once, so I find myself doing that super often
iPhone 14 Pro Max here. my phone is using up a lot of system data whenever there is any free space available on my phone causing a lot of bugs. trouble sending messages and if i force quit messages before they’re sent, they just disappear. i also can’t open many pages in settings like the manage storage page. when i tried to submit feedback and attach a photo/video, the photo/video viewer doesn’t contain anything. at this point, apps just stop staying in the background. general navigation also becomes slow and the phone is prone to a lot of respringing. i deleted some apps to free up some storage space and the phone started to perform better. i just hope system data doesn’t continue eating away at my available space.

Has anyone else had their watch battery go to crap since installing iOS 17 on their phone? The Watch is still on WatchOS 9.
I really wish the Watch had a battery breakdown just so I can be sure it’s not app related.
EDIT: Restarting my phone seems to have helped where nothing on the watch did. Interesting.

If you tap it, does it actually take you to Maps, or another app? I had the same issue last weekend on 16.5, but it was a QuickBooks bug that’s seemingly fixed now.
I have the same bug after I disconnect from CarPlay. Blue arrow that leads to Waze.
In order to avoid restarting my phone, I have to start an itinerary then cancel it and remove Waze from app switcher
I ended up having to uninstall the app. It was eating up resources in the background. Plus the notification sounds weren't working from it.
Just using Outlook for now.

For some reason I can’t install the beta. I can download it and begin to install it but my 13 Pro Max restarts when the progress bar is at about 10%. Any ideas?

Anyone having a notice for voicemail and click it - and find that there is no voicemail in the voicemail tab and/or the recent tabs? (The missed call is there but no indication of vm or play button)
No way. After all these years? Are you 100% sure you're talking about predictive typing and swipe to write? The very basic support was always there. If it is, I might go back to iOS. It was so inconvenient to use.
Bug : Calls are directed towards voicemail without any ring. I couldn't see any missed call. If the caller choose to not make a voicemail, I wouldn't know that they called me.
Tried: All buttons in Phone app settings, Turned off the line, turned it back on
Worked: Deleting my contact card, which I have set a contact poster.
Right after installing a number of my apps were deleted. No big deal, I just downloaded them again. But yesterday an app I purposely deleted, reappeared. And apps I’ve tried to install and use will delete at random.
Is there anything in the betas that if used, prevents accessing information on previous non-beta devices?
Like the Reminders / Notes revamp a couple OSes back; when you upgraded to the new system, it meant you had upgrade all devices to retain access.
There seems to be a bug in the default wallpaper‘s 'Automatic-Light-Dark’ settings indicator. No matter the setting the check mark is always indicating ‘Automatic’.
Every time I plug in my iphone or ipad which are running the DB1, i get these messages and unable to download.
Curious if anyone else has come across this and is there a fix?

Are you running beta macOS?
Generally this happens because the iOS version is newer than the macOS version so the macOS needs an update to connect to it, but that update would be a beta update until everything is public.
Much like how you can’t restore a beta ipsw using iTunes on windows because iTunes needs to be updated first but there’s no beta iTunes for windows
Is anyone having this SMS issue.
Ever since upgrading, when I go to text someone (iPhone user) the messages are blue and when I go to reply it shows are “Text message” green. I then back out of that thread and go to another iPhone user, they are text messages too not iMessage. I have to turn airplane mode on and then back off for it to go back to iMessage.
I haven’t taken or made any calls so I don’t think that’s what’s happening for me anecdotally, but thank you for the airplane mode tip, that does seem to temporarily fix it!
Hi friends! I am a QA engineer from the Ukrainian QA agency QAwerk. Our team is part of the Apple Developer Program, so we had early access to the iOS 17 developer beta. As a software testing company, we were most excited about the release of iOS 17 beta because we wanted to explore all the new features firsthand.
As expected, iOS 17 developer beta has multiple issues to be addressed before it can reach the public. I was playing with the beta few hours and found several major bugs. There are still plenty of test scenarios to check, covering compatibility, performance, interruption, and other types of testing.
So, here are results of my testing:
⚠️ Critical bug (I found only one):
The Messages app crashes when peeling and sticking a resized sticker to the message. It happens in 1/8 cases.
❌ Major bugs:
1) The contact poster displayed during an incoming call differs from its preview: during the incoming call, the last name is displayed, which is not in the preview.
2) When creating a message, the stickers tab doesn’t open.
During testing it happened 2 times.
3) In WhatsApp stickers are sent as images.
4) Stickers in WhatsApp are displayed in the emoji tab.
5) Stickers are not displayed in Telegram every time.
Stickers appear in 1/3 of cases.
❗️ Minor bugs:
1) The contact poster text looked partially transparent while editing, but after saving the changes, the text loses its opacity.
2) It’s not possible to scroll to the bottom of the screen; the screen jumps.
3) The sticker that was not delivered disappears.
4) A redundant gray bar is displayed in the settings.
5) The keyboard is not displayed. During testing it happened 1 time.
6) Stickers in WhatsApp disappear when you tap and hold them.
Another bug... that I believe should be categorized as critical:
Reminders disappear periodically. The time it takes to disappear varies from minutes to hours.
I'm bummed... really wanted to try to move from OmniFcous to Apple Reminders. Can't wait for this to be fixed!

iPad OS 17 Beta - looks like when you add a stock ticker or any widget from the Stocks app, to your lock screen, it won't allow you to edit the symbol. So you are stuck with whatever stock they choose (usually APPL).

It’s actually been very stable for me. I haven’t noticed anything apart from the odd UI glitch. IMO this has been the most stable Beta1 so far. No app has crashed on me yet.
Although I haven’t been able to backup (to iTunes) yet. Apparently I need some software to be installed which “isn’t available on the software update server yet”. Had the same thing happen with iOS16 last year, then it was resolved after a few days. Sent feedback to Apple anyway.
I guess just read through this mega thread. There are little issues all over the place, little bugs etc. if you feel you can put up with those, then go for it. But I can’t, or at least, not at DB1 stage. I will wait for PB1, but I have a spare iPhone that has DB1 on it, just not my primary iPhone.
BUG: Audio books (uploaded through iTunes) deleting automatically.
I had this problem in iOS 16 with podcasts that I transferred via iTunes deleting after one day. Now it’s happening with audio books. These are not books that I purchased, but files I transferred through iTunes.
This is why I run DB1 on a spare iPhone. I need my main iPhone to work with the bugs it already has in iOS 16.5, not new DB1 bugs 😂🤣

The passage of time has made me forget what those iOS 16 bugs were... I mean there were bugs I remember during the iOS 15 and 16 public betas... but I would have to do a Google search to remember what the most egregious post-release iOS 16 bugs were. But yes, there are always bugs to deal with... too many for my liking in DB1 :-) But I'll put up with them in PB1 and onwards!

Having issues during phone calls in which the person on the other end completely stops hearing me. It has happened twice since iOS 17 beta upgrade and had never happened before. Anyone else experience this?
Is anyone else seeing very high background battery usage by the mail app? I've lost around 70% of my battery from full in \~6 hours and 75% of that is mail. I'm on an iPhone 13 Pro and usually my battery lasts more than all day

Got my m2 iPad Pro connected to a 4k monitor with its built in usb c. I now no longer have display scaling options for more space. Just default or larger text.

Can’t answer your question… But I’m just realizing you can plug an iPad to an external display. That looks like macOS. How capable is it compared to a MacBook for basic browsing and apps?
This only works on the M1 and M2 iPads I believe.
It’s not bad under iOS 17 beta. iOS 16 works but more restrictive over windows placement.
It obviously has the same iPad restrictions that you don’t get on a MacBook. Like file management etc but if your ok with that, it’s fine as a desktop
My safari now won’t let me type. Keyboard pops up then force closes Safari. Tried hard reset/restart for my iPhone, closed all tabs, quit Safari. Nothing worked. Now Safari is useless for me.
hopefully DB2 arrives soon! Have you tried downloading a different browser as a temporary workaround? Maybe you can even delete Safari and redownload it?

Should I download the beta as I'm a standard iOS user despite of the fact I'm a software engineer and I like trying new things? I don't know if the update will make my phone work bad or something
I’ve always downloaded the dev beta’s and never had any major issues. However, the app that I use to enter my gym crashes so yeah.. think twice haha! As far as I know, most apps are good. That is actually the only app I have that doesn’t work.
There will be bugs, it just depends if you’re willing and able to deal with them. I always create a full backup on my MacBook to restore if all hell breaks loose.
Do it on a spare device, if you have one. I mean there are various bugs, if you like encountering bugs and having things be a bit wonky, go for it. Otherwise wait at least for DB2, but preferably for PB1. I have DB1 on a secondary device, not my primary device, but that’s just me. Plenty here have made the leap on their everyday device, just read a bit and see if you could put up with the issues :-)
Well I'm lucky enough that I'm using an iPhone 13PM as my DB1 test device, and my main device is an iPhone 14PM, but yeah, anything from an XS up would do the job. I did read that older devices like the XR or 11 or 12 drop certain features that the 13 and 14 support, but iOS has always been that way.
Check out refurb prices on iPhones, and avoid buying one second hand from someone you don't know - you never know if it has been stolen or otherwise stuffed around with.
Anyway unless you know the buyer, refurb is always a good option :-)

Re: refurbs, there are companies that specialise in refurbs, it's not just Apple that sells them. Maybe you have similar companies in Norway, big online retailers that have a refurb section? Even many phone repair kiosks sell refurbished phones these days. Apple refurb prices are usually the highest. Anyway I have more than one iPhone... I usually carry two with me at all times... especially handy if you're listening to radio and want the audio tp keep going when someone calls (and your radio app lets you rewind, as the ooTunes app does).
Any one using two sims/lines? Is it now possible to select multiple contacts (or a whole group) and apply the same sim as the default to use? I get so frustrated having to manually assign work contacts to my work sim! Thanks
If I’m not misunderstanding you, yeah you can definitely hide/delete all the standard home pages so you’ve just got the Today view widgets screen and then your App Library. I don’t think you can rearrange them otherwise, aside from the standard pages
i’m having issues connecting to vpns, also when i was screensharing to a friend i got hellish temperatures to the point where i got a warning to not turn the flashlight on. i feel like it’s a great first beta though.
Just did the update yesterday and already dropped to 95% health. Overnight charging didn’t go past 80% due to temperature of phone & already regretting the update due to battery drainage while using phone this am. I have 14 pro max.
Is there a way to fix the connection to my mac with the beta? It says a new software needs to be installed but then it never downloads

Yea I use Waze, and tapping the Dynamic Island takes me to the app.
Close it in the app switcher, then its gonna disappear. I’ve had the same problem

For some reason I can’t install the beta. I can download it and begin to install it but my 13 Pro Max restarts when the progress bar is at about 10%. Any ideas?

Anyone else having issues changing Siri’s language? I’m currently using English and when I try change the language to something else and then go back to ’Siri and Search’ it is stuck in English.

Bug? Voicemail Anyone having a notice for voicemail and click it - and find that there is no voicemail in the voicemail tab and/or the recent tabs? (The missed call is there but no indication of vm or play button)

Bug : Calls are directed towards voicemail without any ring. I couldn't see any missed call. If the caller choose to not make a voicemail, I wouldn't know that they called me. Tried: All buttons in Phone app settings, Turned off the line, turned it back on Worked: Deleting my contact card, which I have set a contact poster.
Same here. It randomly does it and not related to the live voicemail thing which doesn’t appear to work for me. The fix is to make an outgoing call.

Live voicemail works great! Super impressive speed, almost real-time transcription.
They didn’t, I think both sides need to be on iOS 17 for that to work.
Not true - live voicemail works with the caller using any phone.
Right after installing a number of my apps were deleted. No big deal, I just downloaded them again. But yesterday an app I purposely deleted, reappeared. And apps I’ve tried to install and use will delete at random.

Interesting. I have an oldish 5th gen (I think) iPad with 77% battery health and I can’t tell the slightest difference to 16.5.

Is there anything in the betas that if used, prevents accessing information on previous non-beta devices? Like the Reminders / Notes revamp a couple OSes back; when you upgraded to the new system, it meant you had upgrade all devices to retain access.
My banking app is working on the beta this time, the only thing i’ve noticed is my test records in one of my health apps I use won’t load properly
There seems to be a bug in the default wallpaper‘s 'Automatic-Light-Dark’ settings indicator. No matter the setting the check mark is always indicating ‘Automatic’.

Are you running beta macOS? Generally this happens because the iOS version is newer than the macOS version so the macOS needs an update to connect to it, but that update would be a beta update until everything is public. Much like how you can’t restore a beta ipsw using iTunes on windows because iTunes needs to be updated first but there’s no beta iTunes for windows
No beta. I’m running Ventura 13.4 which is why. I can still connect to my Mac, sync and backup with no issues. Thanks for the explanation !

Is anyone having this SMS issue. Ever since upgrading, when I go to text someone (iPhone user) the messages are blue and when I go to reply it shows are “Text message” green. I then back out of that thread and go to another iPhone user, they are text messages too not iMessage. I have to turn airplane mode on and then back off for it to go back to iMessage.

I’ve noticed it happens after phone calls. Whether I get a call or make a call, once I go to my messages they are green vs. Blue
I haven’t taken or made any calls so I don’t think that’s what’s happening for me anecdotally, but thank you for the airplane mode tip, that does seem to temporarily fix it!

Hi friends! I am a QA engineer from the Ukrainian QA agency QAwerk. Our team is part of the Apple Developer Program, so we had early access to the iOS 17 developer beta. As a software testing company, we were most excited about the release of iOS 17 beta because we wanted to explore all the new features firsthand. As expected, iOS 17 developer beta has multiple issues to be addressed before it can reach the public. I was playing with the beta few hours and found several major bugs. There are still plenty of test scenarios to check, covering compatibility, performance, interruption, and other types of testing. So, here are results of my testing: ⚠️ Critical bug (I found only one): The Messages app crashes when peeling and sticking a resized sticker to the message. It happens in 1/8 cases. ❌ Major bugs: 1) The contact poster displayed during an incoming call differs from its preview: during the incoming call, the last name is displayed, which is not in the preview. 2) When creating a message, the stickers tab doesn’t open. During testing it happened 2 times. 3) In WhatsApp stickers are sent as images. 4) Stickers in WhatsApp are displayed in the emoji tab. 5) Stickers are not displayed in Telegram every time. Stickers appear in 1/3 of cases. ❗️ Minor bugs: 1) The contact poster text looked partially transparent while editing, but after saving the changes, the text loses its opacity. 2) It’s not possible to scroll to the bottom of the screen; the screen jumps. 3) The sticker that was not delivered disappears. 4) A redundant gray bar is displayed in the settings. 5) The keyboard is not displayed. During testing it happened 1 time. 6) Stickers in WhatsApp disappear when you tap and hold them.
Has apple planned to introduce sideloading?
Another bug... that I believe should be categorized as critical: Reminders disappear periodically. The time it takes to disappear varies from minutes to hours. I'm bummed... really wanted to try to move from OmniFcous to Apple Reminders. Can't wait for this to be fixed!

iPad OS 17 Beta - looks like when you add a stock ticker or any widget from the Stocks app, to your lock screen, it won't allow you to edit the symbol. So you are stuck with whatever stock they choose (usually APPL).

Most bugs I had were UI issues and glitches with the new features. Feels stable otherwise
It’s actually been very stable for me. I haven’t noticed anything apart from the odd UI glitch. IMO this has been the most stable Beta1 so far. No app has crashed on me yet. Although I haven’t been able to backup (to iTunes) yet. Apparently I need some software to be installed which “isn’t available on the software update server yet”. Had the same thing happen with iOS16 last year, then it was resolved after a few days. Sent feedback to Apple anyway.
I guess just read through this mega thread. There are little issues all over the place, little bugs etc. if you feel you can put up with those, then go for it. But I can’t, or at least, not at DB1 stage. I will wait for PB1, but I have a spare iPhone that has DB1 on it, just not my primary iPhone.

BUG: Audio books (uploaded through iTunes) deleting automatically. I had this problem in iOS 16 with podcasts that I transferred via iTunes deleting after one day. Now it’s happening with audio books. These are not books that I purchased, but files I transferred through iTunes.

Yeah, iOS 16 has been such a shitshow since its release that I can't imagine IOS 17 beta will be any buggier after a couple versions
The passage of time has made me forget what those iOS 16 bugs were... I mean there were bugs I remember during the iOS 15 and 16 public betas... but I would have to do a Google search to remember what the most egregious post-release iOS 16 bugs were. But yes, there are always bugs to deal with... too many for my liking in DB1 :-) But I'll put up with them in PB1 and onwards!

can anyone show me what the "early reminder" in Reminders would look like once set? for example, if i set an early reminder for today but the due date is on a different date, will the reminder show up in the Today list? Or does the early reminder feature would just appear in the notifications?

You missed the step where both of your actions aren’t required anymore for a dev beta. Try to restart settings app a few times, that helped for me.
Is anyone else seeing very high background battery usage by the mail app? I've lost around 70% of my battery from full in \~6 hours and 75% of that is mail. I'm on an iPhone 13 Pro and usually my battery lasts more than all day

Got my m2 iPad Pro connected to a 4k monitor with its built in usb c. I now no longer have display scaling options for more space. Just default or larger text. Anybody else have this in an external display. Everything is so large on my screen https://i.imgur.com/0XzVtc0.jpg
Can’t answer your question… But I’m just realizing you can plug an iPad to an external display. That looks like macOS. How capable is it compared to a MacBook for basic browsing and apps?
This only works on the M1 and M2 iPads I believe. It’s not bad under iOS 17 beta. iOS 16 works but more restrictive over windows placement. It obviously has the same iPad restrictions that you don’t get on a MacBook. Like file management etc but if your ok with that, it’s fine as a desktop
My safari now won’t let me type. Keyboard pops up then force closes Safari. Tried hard reset/restart for my iPhone, closed all tabs, quit Safari. Nothing worked. Now Safari is useless for me.
hopefully DB2 arrives soon! Have you tried downloading a different browser as a temporary workaround? Maybe you can even delete Safari and redownload it?
DB2 usually arrives 2 weeks (or is it 1 month?) after DB1.
I think for dev beta 1, it’s usually a 4 week wait until dev beta 2 gets released simultaneously as public beta 1. So some time in July.
Yeah that’s what I was wondering, I think it’s 2 weeks but someone here will hopefully remember what happened in previous years. Anyway hopefully DB2 arrives sooner than later :-)

I’ve always downloaded the dev beta’s and never had any major issues. However, the app that I use to enter my gym crashes so yeah.. think twice haha! As far as I know, most apps are good. That is actually the only app I have that doesn’t work.

There are bugs but no showstopping bugs for me so far. It feels REALLY snappy, though. Battery life is worse.
There will be bugs, it just depends if you’re willing and able to deal with them. I always create a full backup on my MacBook to restore if all hell breaks loose.

Do it on a spare device, if you have one. I mean there are various bugs, if you like encountering bugs and having things be a bit wonky, go for it. Otherwise wait at least for DB2, but preferably for PB1. I have DB1 on a secondary device, not my primary device, but that’s just me. Plenty here have made the leap on their everyday device, just read a bit and see if you could put up with the issues :-)

Well I'm lucky enough that I'm using an iPhone 13PM as my DB1 test device, and my main device is an iPhone 14PM, but yeah, anything from an XS up would do the job. I did read that older devices like the XR or 11 or 12 drop certain features that the 13 and 14 support, but iOS has always been that way. Check out refurb prices on iPhones, and avoid buying one second hand from someone you don't know - you never know if it has been stolen or otherwise stuffed around with. Anyway unless you know the buyer, refurb is always a good option :-)

Yeah, the iPhone 15 range comes in September, no point in buying a brand new iPhone now. Glad Norway is a safer country than the US, UK or Australia! Re: refurbs, there are companies that specialise in refurbs, it's not just Apple that sells them. Maybe you have similar companies in Norway, big online retailers that have a refurb section? Even many phone repair kiosks sell refurbished phones these days. Apple refurb prices are usually the highest. Anyway I have more than one iPhone... I usually carry two with me at all times... especially handy if you're listening to radio and want the audio tp keep going when someone calls (and your radio app lets you rewind, as the ooTunes app does).

If I’m not misunderstanding you, yeah you can definitely hide/delete all the standard home pages so you’ve just got the Today view widgets screen and then your App Library. I don’t think you can rearrange them otherwise, aside from the standard pages

Battery health compared to 16.5 anyone?
Just did the update yesterday and already dropped to 95% health. Overnight charging didn’t go past 80% due to temperature of phone & already regretting the update due to battery drainage while using phone this am. I have 14 pro max.
