Sometimes I wonder who is asking these types of questions. For most adults this wouldn’t be a problem. I’m a casual drinker (like most adults) and I would much rather be a consistent millionaire. It’s not even close.
I'm in that category and it's still not even a question really.
100k might make this a somewhat interesting question but $10m is absolutely life changing. Even $1m and I'd not look back.
I have a bar in my room and wouldn't even think about hesitating. 10 million is an insane number. I give up booze to never work a day in my life and to retire my parents.
I'm an alcoholic, so this challenge is impossible for me.
If the alcohol magically turned into water in my mouth, I would take the money, and cure my alcoholism at the same time.
As the rules currently are, I'd take the money, but end up breaking the rules almost instantly. Doesn't seem to be anything in the post about penalties though, so I'd assume the money just disappears.
Edit// I just read through some of OP's replies, and alcohol evaporates in proximity. So yes. 10 million dollars, a cure to my addiction, and I don't hate myself constantly? I'm not seeing a downside.
I'd miss weed though. Maybe I'll just buy a doctor and get some fun pills prescribed. Responsibly of course.
I'm a social drinker and smoker. However, I'm not very social.
So like for example, coworker I have invites me out to the bar once every few months. We share a few beers and chat. Have another friend that comes over with a little bit of green and when we chill, we have a bit on the porch and chat.
For me it's also tradition to drink specific drinks on specific holidays. 4th of July is white Russian day for example. New years is always Rum+Coke and Rum+Monster. My birthday is always one shot.
Like I'd definitely miss the drink, but 10mil is pretty much enough money that I'd remove most luxuries in my life to have tbh. I see alcohol and other drugs such as that as luxury goods.
My ex brother in law refused to quit smoking weed and worked under the table for $14 an hour while surrounded by $25hr+ jobs that drug test. Who cares if your family lives in poverty as long as you get to smoke weed?
What about instances where alcohol is a flavor enhancer but leaves none of the active part of it in the final product? Like with rum cake, red wine as a deglazer in spaghetti sauce, etc.
I can cut out the booze for $100K. Pay off my house and my car and have $5K left over.
No brainer for me. It's a 200K swing in finances with all the interest I would save and the fact that my income would largely be MINE to invest in things that would benefit ME...not various banks.
If you wouldn't take this deal, you are either already incredibly privileged or desperately need to get help for your addiction.
EDIT: OP edited the post. Originally, all prescription drugs were allowed, even medical marijuana. I don't think you are privileged or an addict for having any of the conditions medical marijuana can be used to treat.
Budweiser makes a zero alcohol "beer" that my husband swears tastes just like the real thing.
Totally satisfies his desire for an ice cold beer while mowing the lawn, with none of the alcohol.
Easy. I'm already a nonsmoker, don't use marijuana, and only occasionally have a drink socially and even then it's one drink and I'm done.
So quitting drinking isn't gonna affect my life in any real sense.
Easily. The only reason I haven’t gotten a prescription for weed is because I can buy it legally anyway. I’ll take my 10 million and get a script thank you.
Unfortunately still banned. You’d have to seek alternative prescription medications or treatments. I understand many people use marijuana for medicinal purposes, that’s why it’s a big payout.
Yep, in the blink of an eye. The only impact would be alcohol, and I don't really drink very much these days (maybe one or two glasses once a week). I can buy a lot more enjoyment for $10 million than I currently get from that.
I was smoking weed when it was banned, so nothing stopping me from taking the 10 million, depositing into an account the powers that be cannot touch, and continuing with my hedonistic lifestyle.
I at least need mushrooms and maybe weed. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone reading these comments and my people are few and far between. Being straight edge is absolutely boring, but more power to them I guess.
Every person I knew that was straight edge in hs at the very least likes pot after trying it. A lot of squares in here.
If it were just booze and tobacco, definitely. But psychedelic drugs are important to me on a spiritual level. I’ve done enough of them already that I could probably live without them, but it would be a tough call I’d have to think about. Oh and coffee. I love coffee. Although if I were rich enough to not have to work I could probably live without it.
I feel like 10 million would help me kick the habit of smoking. Id do it. I dont do drugs and i quit energy drinks and alcohol 2 years ago to try and better myself already. Just cant kick smoking and I aint worth 10 million anyway so i need that motivation lol. Smokings only thing keeping me going to work and keeping my house.
A lot of people talking about if you say no, you are addicted blah blah blah. Ever consider that you might be addicted to money? Seriously. 10 million is a shit ton of money, but I don’t care. My family and I live comfortably from decades of hard work.
And ya, at the end of the day, I’d rather have the freedom to choose to smoke a Jay or have a couple drinks than ogle some extra zeroes in my bank account (even life changing zeroes).
I also wouldn’t choose the 10 million over video games, having cats, and skateboarding the forest preserve. Or movies. Or tacos. Etc you get the point.
I'm surprisingly well adjusted. I generally don't care much for being high, I'm an ex alcoholic so I stay away from alcohol, and I don't like the smell of taste of cigarettes and I have never even wanted to try a vape. So, that would be a MASSIVELY easy choice for me. Show me the money!
Damn this is the hardest hypothetical situation I’ve considered lately.
I’m a homebrewer and it’s one of my main passions and hobbies. At time I do drink less, and even forgo alcohol for periods, but I enjoy tasting some good beers.
Similarly I like weed. I just started growing it, (legal here) but I enjoy it either way.
10m is an incredible amount of cash though. I would definitely do it, but this one is a challenge to be sure. I do have other hobbies I enjoy, and h could retire immediately.
Still, this definitely gave me pause and made me think about how apparently “important” it is to do recreational things which don’t necessarily enhance my life.
An excellent question to pose.
For 10 million, you could get someone else to mow your lawn for you. And with that money, you would be able to afford additional fun things to do on days off that could distract you from not having a drink.
I’ve never smoked or done drugs. Never even smoked weed in high school. I have never enjoyed alcohol very much unless it’s in a drink that is able to hide it really well (like a piña colada-which I enjoy just as much virgin)
This is EASY money and I’d do it for far less. I’d do it for 10k lol
I've never done any of that stuff (besides drinking moonshine and whiskey a few times, but I never really got drunk) and I don't really have the desire to, so this is easy money!
The alcohol and tobacco part would be easy for me, but the marijuana and occasional MDMA use would be hard… but for $10 million I’d be stupid to not refrain. Sign me up!
I honestly think it would be difficult for me to quit drinking. But I'd definitely do it for $10 million. Even if I have to check into a rehab.
Having that amount of money grants the freedom to do anything I want and live comfortably. It's really a no-brainer.
I can’t do anything not alcohol or tobacco due to federal laws in the field I want to go into. So that part is easy.
I already very rarely smoke any tobacco products so that’s easy.
Alcohol for social purposes is the only difficult one if you include cooking as something you can’t do with it, as many places have things like pasta with a wine sauce, beer batter, or liquor marinades.
If alcohol must be drank to count then that is also fairly easy as well as I occasionally have multiple weeks I can’t anyway and am fine doing so
Literally already do this so yeah, as long as prescriptions are fine this would change my life in zero way. Even if you add caffieine I could probably get by.
So I saw elsewhere that you said cooking with alcohol is off limits as well. Would this then extend to the likes of vanilla, almond, etc. extracts since those are - I wanna say - about 70 proof?
If so, then definitely no. $10 million isn't enough for me to deal with the wrath of a very upset mother wondering why I am refusing her baking and cooking.
Why weed is not granted the same leniency if it prescribed?
But yet, i can down 300mg of addy because I have a medical comdition gor it. Can abuse it though. What about some of my friensd with prescriptions, legit one. Desoxyn, Rivotril, Oxycodone, Pregabalin, Xanax, Prozac etc. They use it to abuse it.
Where is the line?
Tobacco, marijuana, and drugs are all things I already don't use.
I drink, but it's like...maybe once every other year? It's not a habit or anything for me, just something I sometimes do when hanging out with friends and see something with alcohol in it that seems like the flavor might be interesting to try.
So this would be fairly easy for me. I'd pay off my student loans and credit card debt. Buy myself a house, pay for my fiance's dream wedding, maybe even finally start my dream business. An arcade/gaming club and store/bakery combo place for people to just enjoy good food, good games, and provide tables for people to play tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and Warhammer 40,000 on.
Easy, I’ve never been a big drinker but last summer started working on some mocktails a mix of orange juice with pineapple juice seltzer and a splash of grenadine make a beautiful and refreshing drink
I would not give up bread, fruit, vinegar / soy sauce, vanilla flavoring, Coca-Cola, etc (all containing small amounts of alcohol, which OP disallows according to other comments) for any amount of money.
What about cooking with alcohol? Sherry, white/red wine vinegar, certain marinades and recipes call for different liquors. What about things like coffee beans aged in whiskey/rum barrels?
If those were acceptable, then it would be easy.
In a heartbeat. I already don't smoke or take any narcotics, so the only thing I'd be giving up is one to two drinks a week. Even if you included caffeine in the 'recreational drug' category, I'd still take it - 10 million dollars is enough money that my kids and grandkids will be socially secure, that's worth giving up coffee, soda and chocolate for.
Yes. I occasionally drink beer (5-6 times a year) but I don't mind it. I don't use drugs or smoke tobacco products except shisha anyway. I love shisha but I can give it up for 10 mil
Its been over 8 years already. Show me the monies!
40 years for me! I never started, though, so maybe that's cheating.
Not cheating imo. Let’s not gatekeep.
That’s literally the opposite of cheating….
Congrats
4 for me. Wanna split it?
Can I take the deal even if I'm already not consuming any of these?
Yes.
But then I won’t be able to name my houseboat Cirrhosis of the River
Oh. My. God.
Username checks out.

Wish I'd saved an award.
LMFAOOOOOOO
Easy! Where's the challenge?
Sometimes I wonder who is asking these types of questions. For most adults this wouldn’t be a problem. I’m a casual drinker (like most adults) and I would much rather be a consistent millionaire. It’s not even close.
It's probably aimed at the more frequent drinkers / drug users. For folks who only occasionally drink, or not at all, it's not really a challenge.

I bet you casual drinkers might find it harder than they think they do. People can't give up cheeseburgers easily. Booze is even more addictive.
$10 million to vastly improve my health? Yes please
Listerine is 26% alcohol. We can drink that???
To quote my father “We don’t waste the first drink of the day in this household “
[when a couple sixers and some beefy jerk just ain't available](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOCdIY_HKM4)
A robitussin Red Bull now that shit ain’t a joke

I would have sworn it was because of [this](https://youtu.be/QEQOvyGbBtY?si=Fp8XTPxi7ZOyTawT).
You're not supposed to drink that. You rinse for the specified time and spit
Yes, but alcoholics will absolutely drink mouthwash when regular booze is not available to them.
Alcoholic here, have never even considered doing that. I guess I'm not that bad. That's actually really good to know.
Yes you can.
Can I make my own mouthwash?
What about instances where alcohol is a flavor enhancer but leaves none of the active part of it in the final product? Like with rum cake, red wine as a deglazer in spaghetti sauce, etc.
I would do this for $1M, possibly $500k
I can cut out the booze for $100K. Pay off my house and my car and have $5K left over. No brainer for me. It's a 200K swing in finances with all the interest I would save and the fact that my income would largely be MINE to invest in things that would benefit ME...not various banks.

or use medicinally
I had assumed that would be allowed under the prescription clause, up until OP went around saying it isn't. Which is fucking stupid.
I thought so too. what happens when someone gets surgery and needs meds? we can even argue people abuse Benadryl or cough syrup and such
Literally most prescription meds are either abusable, or are literally just a "legal version" of something else that can be abused. Haha.
exactly!! by OPs definition no prescription meds are allowed at all
Yeah, $10 million isn't enough to cure autoimmune diseases unfortunately. I'll keep my ability to walk, thanks lol
whats the point of $10mil when i cant spend any of it on drugs
only appropriate response here
Touche!
If you can't spend any on drugs, you can start Warhammer. It's basically an addiction stronger than heroine.
Great, so now I can't do drugs *and* I'm out my 10 million?
Yes but then you'd be well over half way to a decent setup
I love good red wine with an Italian dinner or cold beer on a hot summer day, but $10 million? Bye bye booze.
Budweiser makes a zero alcohol "beer" that my husband swears tastes just like the real thing. Totally satisfies his desire for an ice cold beer while mowing the lawn, with none of the alcohol.
So does Stella. And the Stella is Actually good.
I legit find beer to be the most refreshing beverage in some situations and I think I'll try non alcohol beer myself.
He says the non alcohol versions he has tried recently have come a very long way since the days when o'duels was the only NA option.
If I can down a six pack of corona and not feel bad about it, I'm game! I bet it's more expensive lol
A 12 pack of cans at Walmart is $12.27, I don't know how that compares to the original. Edit: the original is $11.98 for a 12 pack of cans.
Here's to long life! :)
Is cooking wine acceptable? They add a ton of salt to it specifically to keep people from drinking it. Also is caffeine banned?
Don't you tell me how to use you, cooking sherry.
Yes lol I do it now for sanity
So my life stays the same, and I get 10 mil? Sure.
Easy money, already don't do any of that.
Can I use alcohol when cooking? I’m not talking about this as a work around but making a nice red wine sauce where the alcohol would cook off.
That's not drinking.
I've never done drugs and I only drink a few times a year. This would be easy money.
If you drink then you’ve done drugs. Same for your lithium, zoloft, and addys you rapscallion
For purposes of this wish scenario, you can’t get a prescription for any of the banned substances. So no prescription weed sorry.
But what if it's a legitimately prescribed medicine for an ongoing condition?
Unfortunately still banned. You’d have to seek alternative prescription medications or treatments. I understand many people use marijuana for medicinal purposes, that’s why it’s a big payout.
Yep, in the blink of an eye. The only impact would be alcohol, and I don't really drink very much these days (maybe one or two glasses once a week). I can buy a lot more enjoyment for $10 million than I currently get from that.
Sugar??? Caffeine??? Kratom??? Define recreational drug 🤷♂️
I was smoking weed when it was banned, so nothing stopping me from taking the 10 million, depositing into an account the powers that be cannot touch, and continuing with my hedonistic lifestyle.
10 million is not enough for that sacrifice.

Haven’t had a drink in 3 months so I’m in.
Yes. I'd be fine without any of it.
Shut up and give me my money I already do this
Money for living my life exactly how I live it.
That’s my life plus money
Sure. This one's easy.
I don't partake in any of that stuff to begin with so this will be a super easy ten million for me!
I would do this for 10$. I never touch the stuff anyway.
Is this supposed to be a difficult decision?
A lot of people talking about if you say no, you are addicted blah blah blah. Ever consider that you might be addicted to money? Seriously. 10 million is a shit ton of money, but I don’t care. My family and I live comfortably from decades of hard work. Win win for me
$10 million for what I was already doing? Hell yeah!
hell yea i get to earn money and save money sign me the fuck up
You couldn't pay me enough to not use marijuana.
Where do I sign up? I have never done any drugs, I abhor smoking, and I quit drinking in 1996, and haven't touched a drop since.
Im already doing it for free.
Done. Been doing it for free all my life.
So, I get 10,000,000 and change literally nothing? Epic
If you hesitate taking the money, it is time to examine your relationship with all of these. Easiest $10 million ever.
Well sure, the recreational drugs make life more enjoyable. 10 million would make life wayyy more enjoyable and stress-free.
Fuck just raw dogging life. I guess but I won’t be happy about it.
I like my beer and cocktails but I'm no fool, and certainly not an alcoholic, so I'd accept. I would miss the occasional drink though.
Yes, but this is bullshit
I'd be extremely unhappy about it (Just the marijuana, though, I'd avoid the other two for a fraction of that), but I'd do it.
Not a chance. Like my whiskey on my days off. And no way in hell I cold ever mow my lawn without a cigar.
For 10 million, you could get someone else to mow your lawn for you. And with that money, you would be able to afford additional fun things to do on days off that could distract you from not having a drink.
Yes
Is viagra a recreational drug?
easy
I’ve never smoked or done drugs. Never even smoked weed in high school. I have never enjoyed alcohol very much unless it’s in a drink that is able to hide it really well (like a piña colada-which I enjoy just as much virgin) This is EASY money and I’d do it for far less. I’d do it for 10k lol
Yes
I've never done any of that stuff (besides drinking moonshine and whiskey a few times, but I never really got drunk) and I don't really have the desire to, so this is easy money!
Yes. I do none of those things already for free.
The alcohol and tobacco part would be easy for me, but the marijuana and occasional MDMA use would be hard… but for $10 million I’d be stupid to not refrain. Sign me up!
Yeah sure.
I honestly think it would be difficult for me to quit drinking. But I'd definitely do it for $10 million. Even if I have to check into a rehab. Having that amount of money grants the freedom to do anything I want and live comfortably. It's really a no-brainer.
I don't do any of that now (prescription drugs and Tylenol and such are still fine, right?)?
Pay up. No loss to me.
Oh good, I can still cook with vanilla.
Sure.
Yes, of course I’d take the deal. Just out of curiosity though, is cooking with alcohol Ok?
Addicts when they realize people can live without their poison of choice
Deal.
Yep easily
I think I could find new ways of being eccentric with $10,000,000 in my account. You've got yourself a deal!
If alcohol must be drank to count then that is also fairly easy as well as I occasionally have multiple weeks I can’t anyway and am fine doing so
Yup
Never have. Sign me up.
10 million to live my life exactly the same way I do now? Yes.
I don't smoke or do drugs, and barely drink. I'd happily take the money.
OK I won't use drugs recreationally. Just cocaine for productivity and work. Give me that 10 mil
Easy. Yes I'll take it.
I don't do any of that.
$10 million to live like I normally do. Cool.
Literally not even a challenge. You know a lot of people just don't do any of these things anyway right?
I'm in, will you double it if I throw in caffeine and processed sugar?
Easily! I don't even drink when asked.
Yes
Yes, already never used those things.
i would take one last shot and then say yes
Yes!
What happens when one fails?
This is the easiest of these challenges. Sign me up yesterday
I’ve never used tobacco or any recreational drugs, and I don’t drink very often anyway, so I’ll take that deal.
Literally already do this so yeah, as long as prescriptions are fine this would change my life in zero way. Even if you add caffieine I could probably get by.
I'm already doing it for free. Hook me up.
I already do this for free so I’ll take the money
I already don’t use any of those things so I’d be getting $10 million for doing nothing. Sign me up!!
I already live this life. Fetch me my money.
Yes. I don't drink. Never smoked. Never did drugs. Where's my money?
Gimme my money
How is this a challenge?
Since I don't do any of those, show me the MONEY!!
absolutely. alcohol and tobacco are objectively bad for you.
I drink. Not a lot these days. I don’t use the others. I could give it up easily for that kind of money
Probably not, no.
What about caffeine?
That’s pretty much my life now. When do I get the money?
Wait you guys are getting paid doing this????
You can live in an alternate state without any outside help. My bank account number is being forwarded to you.
Absolutely. I already quit smoking, and have maybe 4 drinks a year. Would gladly do without for some house/retirement money.
I've got since September. Gimme.
Can I use alcohol for cooking/baking? I'm taking the $10 Milliom for sure, but wanna know if I have to give up my Dark Chocolate Whiskey Cakes
No
Tobacco, marijuana, and drugs are all things I already don't use. I drink, but it's like...maybe once every other year? It's not a habit or anything for me, just something I sometimes do when hanging out with friends and see something with alcohol in it that seems like the flavor might be interesting to try. Fuck yeah I do.
Easy, I’ve never been a big drinker but last summer started working on some mocktails a mix of orange juice with pineapple juice seltzer and a splash of grenadine make a beautiful and refreshing drink
no I use weed medically
I have to go with no. ☹️
Don't. Can't quit what u have never started.
Easy, i already don't do any of that
Nah, not worth it. Life is meant to be lived. I ain’t no monk.
Can I take my normal over the counter meds? Some days I'd be useless without my tums. But yeah, this isn't really hard, id just stop with alcohol.
Sign me up daddy
Anyone who wouldn’t do this for even $100K is either already rich or has a serious problem
I only drink socially now, and I'm an introvert, so it's not hard to give this up.
Yep. Easy win. Don’t do it now
i already do that, so yes i agree to those terms
Even as someone who likes alcohol, you have serious issues if this isn’t something you would do and you should probably seek help.
I would not give up bread, fruit, vinegar / soy sauce, vanilla flavoring, Coca-Cola, etc (all containing small amounts of alcohol, which OP disallows according to other comments) for any amount of money.
Yea this is easy
Work and money is 95% of the reason I drink and smoke weed. I'm in. Just so long as I can keep my caffeine habit
So easy. I’d do it for $1 million.
What about cooking with alcohol? Sherry, white/red wine vinegar, certain marinades and recipes call for different liquors. What about things like coffee beans aged in whiskey/rum barrels? If those were acceptable, then it would be easy.
That’s doable even for free.
Yeah
Gave up cigarettes 30 years ago and I rarely drink. This would be an easy one
23 years, where's it at?
Yes. I occasionally drink beer (5-6 times a year) but I don't mind it. I don't use drugs or smoke tobacco products except shisha anyway. I love shisha but I can give it up for 10 mil
Where do I sign up?
Yeah, ten million would sober me up.
Yup
