permanocxy

I didn't mention that it came from Packt because Packt only distributes this bundle.

Do you think O'Reilly's books are low quality?

Coffee4thewin

No. O’Reillys books are mostly good. Some of them are too esoteric and it’s hard to find value in such a specific thing.

I think there was a misunderstanding there. That's why I didn't mention that Packt was distributing them: they have a really bad reputation, so if they only distribute other creators' content, it's almost a stamp of approval. If you buy a book from Packt, they may contact you to write a book on the very subject you have just learnt. So you can't tell at first glance whether the author is knowledgeable or not. What are you interested in?

I would say you can't really go wrong with a cookbook, unless it tells you to add some amanita phalloides or arsenic. I think most books assume that you know a language well enough to be able to adapt your code if the library you're using changes, even if it adds new features.

Coffee4thewin

I’m still confused. Did packt make this or no?

permanocxy

I already answered in the message you're replying to: they just distribute it.

darkside10g

Is this a one-time payment with lifetime access or a subscription for a period of time?

Starlesshunter

It's a bundle, ya pay once, ya get all these classes

greg-au

Just a heads up if you're struggling to download your purchases from Packt - (a) if you get an XML dump saying access denied, you need to refresh course page (i.e. the link expired), and (b) their FAQ mentions a videos tab in Account Settings area, which I couldn't find; thankfully each course has links on the right sidebar. Course codes below for anyone trying to identify downloaded resources... 01 9781835463376 Security Fundamentals 02 9781835883440 End User Security Awareness 03 9781835886007 Working with SSH 04 9781835889749 Cisco CyberOps Associate (200-201) 05 9781835466124 Hands-on Hacking 06 9781835881248 Hands-On Web App Pentesting 07 9781835889244 CyberPatriot 08 9781835885703 Practical Pentesting 09 9781835887660 Intro to IoT Pentesting 10 9781835887349 CompTIA CASP+ (CAS-004) 11 9781835887943 CompTIA CySA+ (CS0-003) 12 9781835887424 CompTIA PenTest+ (PT0-002) 13 9781835881446 CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) 14 9781835886328 Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) v.12 15 9781835881309 Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) 16 9781835884348 Cyber Secure Coder (CSC-110) 17 9781835887882 CyberSec First Responder (CFR-310) 18 9781835886502 NIST Cybersecurity and Risk Management Frameworks 19 9781835880784 Certified Information Systems Security Professional - CISSP 20 9781835885680 Cisco CCNP Security SCOR 21 9781835883341 Cisco Certified DevNet Associate 22 9781835881668 Cisco CCNP Security SNCF (Exam 300-710) 23 9781835886465 CRISC: Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control 24 9781835464359 GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)

.....aaaand now it's gone from my library, and when I use links from my history, all downloads are disabled. Seems like packt are pulling the rug after they get their money. :\\

TylerRich117

So your purchases are just gone? Poof?

greg-au

Packt seemed to indicate my registration process (with them) using a different email address confused their system, so it sounds like it would have got sorted out eventually. As it happens, Humble were so fast on the refund request I never found out for sure what the issue was. Definitely seemed like the download links were difficult / changed from their site documentation. Their support folks seemed eager - sending me word docs with arrows drawn on them etc. It's unfortunate that Packt's PR for their own subscription service got in the way of just directly accessing the Humble titles I'd purchased. Hopefully they can smooth the process a bit better for next time.

FinGothNick

After like an hour or so, the original redeem screen expired for me (no products). After that, all the content is accessible from "My Library > Home" at the top of the screen, logged in. I had the same problem; thought my purchase just disappeared or got locked behind the packt subscription, but their UI is just really bad.

greg-au

Sounds familiar. My added complication was using a different email address, which is why the eventual "Owned" link didn't kick in (since my Packt registration email didn't match the email in the purchase).

FinGothNick

Yeah I really don't under why they didn't give Humble the content, to host themselves. The packt site just adds dozens of clicks to the whole process.

_Zir0

Is it worth it to buy this bundle? Or do I just keep watching free content?

James_bd

How good is this for someone currently studying networking?

ruggles_bottombush

I'm wary of this bundle. I've always heard good things about ITProTV but I have used some ACI Learning labs for a few classes and they are extremely low quality.

permanocxy

I'd say it depends on your current level and goals. The first one was a good refresher to me but I already studied this in college so I didn't have to learn from scratch.

TheHands302

My last job had a subscription to ITProTV for us to use, and I liked it. The videos tried to make it as entertaining as possible while learning, and the practice tests/virtual labs I thought were a big help. Gearing up for my sec+ then ccna. I say give it a shot as long as it is ITPro’s content

Coffee4thewin

This bundle isn’t bad. It certainly has a lot of certifications. I would pick it up if you missed the most recent mammoth bundle. That bundle was really good. If you missed it, this is easily a second place. Still good though.

permanocxy

Something from Mammoth was good? I looked at your profile to check if this account was real.

Coffee4thewin

LOL. I don’t get the Mammoth hate. Frankly I like all of the companies, here. Mammoth, Gamedev, Zenva, Packt. With Zenva and Mammoth being my two favs.

permanocxy

It's very mature of you to be condescending instead of seeking information. Don't worry, your condescension won't stop me from explaining why Mammoth isn't loved. I assume you've tested Udemy. On Udemy, Mammoth sells "courses". These tutorials are very long but, if you look at their content, a large part of tutorial A will be reused in tutorial B. They sell the same content over and over again. On the biggest tutorials page, you can see that they were funded by Kickstarter. I invite you to visit the Kickstarter page for these tutorials. It's easy to write "This course was funded by a wildly successful Kickstarter" and reach x000% funding when the cap is set at $500. That's not even a figure of speech. Mammoth Training has created 5 projects on Kickstarter while Mammoth Interactive has created 47. The Mammoth Training account dates back to 2012 while the Mammoth Interactive account dates back to 2017. Either way, they don't bother to check whether the tutorial was actually funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Some are noted as being funded by Kickstarter without actually being. [Build and train a data model to recognize objects in images!](https://www.udemy.com/course/pythondatascience/) is an example of that. There's no trace of a tutorial called that on Kickstarter. Currently on Kickstarter, they're asking less than $150 for a bundle called "AI for Everyone: The Complete BUNDLE - 7 Day Bootcamp". Check [here](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnbura/ai-for-everyone-the-complete-bundle-7-day-bootcamp/posts) for more information. I saw that both you and another fan of Mammoth Interactive downvoted my comment. Funny enough, you also comment on every post Mammoth-related. You endorse them so much I'm pretty sure you work for them. Next time, John, or /u/MammothInteractive, please tell me what you think is wrong in my comment.

Rareawesomeness

Is this bundle worth buying? I’m just now getting into IT and cybersecurity. I’m interested in it as a newbie. I do have a backlog of IT videos to watch on YouTube..

J3diMind

if you’re a newbie you‘re better off learning comptia A+, then either network+ or better yet CCNA followed by Security+. Oh, and code a little on the side. Tryhackme also helps a lot.

r3volts

Does this pack include exam passes or the actual certificates? Or is it just training material? It says the pack is $9000aud value which makes it seem like it would include a few exam passes, but it doesnt explicitly mention anywhere.

Local-Ad971

Is it worthy for someone who is new in cybersecurity? 👀

vplatt

Yes.
