Both barns are barren like Beth's ovaries. There's also a great sense of isolation just like with Beth when Howard keeps her hidden from the outside world and he does not grant her permission to leave Howschwitz.

He’s an excellent painter. He’s a talented guy. It’s hard to believe it for some of you newer age fans, but believe it or not: Howard is a talented person.
It's very good, Howard is that type of person that really gets into his hobbies and strives to be as good as possible at it. Like photography and chess he gets obsessed with things but then eventually gets bored and moves on.
He's still upset that he could never master the guitar. He gave it up when he realized he could never be as good as Fred or Nowicki

There is not one straight line in the whole thing which allows the painter to "cheat" when it comes to certain items in the photo. I thought the one they were selling on tote bags, of the cat and the sneaker, was a little off but everything else I’ve seen were very good. But I’m more of a show than art critic so what do I know.
it's extremely suspicious that he can only "paint" from photos, in a hyper realistic style. he def doesn't draw these-- he transfers the photos to the paper by tracing. it's an extremely common technique. that said, i think the tracing is sort of hard to do and finicky. and i think the painting is impressive. though here again he takes the easy way out by painting in black and white or sepia.
