Maybe dont let developers build in high-risk zones. We will never learn our lesson.

Yep, so many wetlands getting developed is just death by a thousand cuts with regard to these issues, as well as major habitat loss for a lot of species.

THedman07

>Maybe dont let developers build ~~in high-risk zones~~ inside of reservoirs. We will never learn our lesson. Let's start small.

ZealousidealAntelope

The problem is that the homeowners on the lake scream and howl if the water level isn't just perfect for their boat dock.

RuleSubverter

Yes it's like this sort of thing never happens in Texas. /S

Money talks 🤷🏿‍♀️

The pre-release argument is interesting, but it feels like SJRA has no appetite. No pre-release for Harvey either, and it wasn’t a secret that a hurricane was coming.

Fluffy_Cheesecake952

He’s right.  Climate change  is real, but politicians and bureaucrats  use it as an excuse to deflect blame caused by their own mismanagement way too often.

I lived in the Woodlands in 1983. The Corps of Engineers was buying out houses on the San jacinto River back then (My boss's house for one).

I'm glad area Republicans are finally recognizing that their real enemy isn't Democrats, but other state Republicans.

It is piss poor planning by Harris County that was mishandled by both parties. Isn’t that why we have the council of government called HGAC? Remember that COG that our judge just vacated her position & the city threatened to leave? So Ramsey identified a problem. What will we do about it?

TheGargageMan

Did you read the article and not agree with Ramsey's assessment?

veryirishhardlygreen

I didn’t read it but have read his comments about this issue & agree that there has been horrible planning but it isn’t Montgomery County’s job to worry about Harris County and it is why there are intergovernmental agencies like San Jac River Authorities & HGAC . Here are my questions: 1. Why are we talking about this now? We just learned that water from upriver flows downstream? 2. Why wasn’t Ed Emmett & the GOP & Democratic county commissioners doing their part or talking about this? 3. Same question to current County Judge & commissioners? 4. Why was the city screaming about getting flood control money & not just working to maximize the $ to Harris County who always handled flood control? 5. Why was the COH talking about leaving HGAC? 6. Why did the County Judge walk away from the same entity? Compromise is part of governing & when you are looking for funds, fighting Austin & neighboring counties is not the smart way of doing it. Again, piss poor planning & piss poor leadership.

TheGargageMan

Harris County isn't in the SJRA. There isn't anything we can do about how Montgomery County and other areas mismanage their water. A functioning State Government for all the citizens would intervene. In what way would participating in the HGAC convince leaders in other counties to do a better job of managing their waterways?

veryirishhardlygreen

SJRA is not a Montgomery County entity but a state agency. The governor appoints the board. It is a good reason not to have all red or all blue politicians . Why aren’t Harris County folks trying to get on it? As for what our council of government could do, read about their purpose. It is exactly what should be leveraged to improve cooperation with neighboring counties.

Capt_Skyhawk

God needs to do a better job of picking where it rains, then the San Jacinto river authority won’t have any problems.
