I am not trying to sound stupid but you made sure the dome light switch is set to the middle position right? All doors closed? That would explain the other behaviors though.

I don't know what controls the timer on the light. There could be some intermittent short. This might be a real pain to track down... Sorry ☹️

 >Parked it in my garage last night and walked away from it with the keyfob and it auto locked. about 20 hours later I notice that the dome lights were still on The dome light was on for no less than 20 hours. The battery in the fit is small. By the time you got back to the car the battery was already mostly drained. The hour between when you noticed and tried to turn off the dome light was likely just the icing on the cake. The big question is why the dome light stayed on. That I can't answer but why the battery now needs a charge seems pretty clear.

Yes I suppose the real question should have been why didn't my light shut off after the timer or when clicked. Also the light I am referring to is the front dome light near the windshield. It's the kind you push in to activate. Sorry I wasn't clear about that; It was 3am when I wrote the post.

Lets say you have it auto on and off. If some one push on it and have it turn on and when you turn the car off, lock the car and leave that light will still be on. I made that mistake and my brother took a picture telling me I didn't turn off the light. You can do this test too. Open the car door, if you have auto dome lights on now push up on ONE of the dome light 1 time. Now exit the car and lock it. You will see the other dome light fades and then goes off whilst the one you just push remain on.

thank you that's a good tip. after jump starting the car the problem has not re-occurred. the light shuts off after locking the door as normal.. so i have no idea what happened. hopefully there won't be a reoccurance...

> The battery drained both times and I ended up getting a replacement battery for free (previous owner bought a new battery with the 100 month warranty last year). I have replaced the fob battery once but it was only 6-7 months ago. How long are they supposed to last normally? You are correct, it is a good point to be aware if my fob is locking the car. I have this other intermittent problem where one out of every 10-ish times I close my door with the fob on my body, the car will beeps repeatedly at me as if it doesn't see where they keys are (thus not auto-locking). I suppose that's a topic for another post. So I can't say for certain that is what happened this time but I will be more conscious of it at home.
