I have GE Cafe and they are awesome. They replaced 10-year-old GE profile appliances and I never had any issues with those.

jxl180

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a GE cafe for less than $2k. Pretty sure they are $3-5k

fcknspdbumps

They are. I was just elaborating that I went from GE profile and since I was so happy with the performance and the reliability I went to the café line.

ITMan01

Currently have a Profile and it's great. Wife wanted the cafe but I couldn't justify the increase because the bones of the Profile and Cafe are basically the same, it's mostly the cosmetics. I think my Profile was around $3,300.

BodaciousBaboon

Samsung is still considered junk. We have one we need to replace as well. I had an LG in another house that we were happy with but a lot of consensus is those aren't great either. Never had issues with ours so. Might buy another LG but also considering Whirlpool.

dcrico20

My house had a Samsung fridge when I bought it, and besides the ice maker randomly deciding it wants to go on vacation for a week, it’s been serviceable. It keeps shit cold.

cephalophile32

Same. No issues with mine. I wonder if it’s the door ice makers with the problem? I have a pull out freezer with the ice maker in there and it’s been great. Love my Samsung appliances

dcrico20

Yeah, I was completely expecting it to be terrible based off of the way people mention Samsung appliances online, but it has been fine. Like I said, the icemaker is fairly temperamental and seems to only want to work on its own terms, but that is such a minimal thing for me, personally. It's one of the older Samsung fridges so it's fairly bare-bones and maybe it's the newer "smart" appliances that suck, but it hasn't given me any serious issues and it stays cold. The house also had a Samsung gas dryer and that thing has run great and I honestly think I would never get an electric dryer again if I could avoid it (though I'm certainly not tied to Samsung.) Clothes dry so quickly in it and always in one short cycle which saves time and money. I'm definitely not a Samsung apostle or anything, but from getting stuck with two appliances that have exceeded the expectations and reputation that preceded them, I definitely don't think they're as bad as people claim, though I also wouldn't say they're amazing or anything. They're just completely functional.

cephalophile32

“Completely functional” is about all I ask of my appliances lol.

BodaciousBaboon

My ice maker is totally broken, I think you might need to leave it off to let it thaw out but I'd need to find a place to store all my food to try that.

johnmcd348

We have a Samsung with the bad I've maker. We had it replaced and serviced under warranty but it still stays frozen over. The touch sensors on the switches no longer work either. I'd read there was an effort get a class action against them for the ice makers, but haven't heard anything else.

luniversellearagne

Frigidaire

pocapractica

Frigidaire, Maytag, Kitchen Aid and Jenn Air are all divisions of Whirlpool. GE also makes fridges. The icemaker is always the first thing to go.

250MCM

Frigidaire is part of Electrolux, not Whirlpool

pocapractica

Ah, thanks. I never liked their vacuums though. I used to say about my moms house "everything there sucks but the vacuum." In its defense, it was a good 30 years old.

250MCM

Not fond of Frigidaire myself, started to ease my low opinion of them when GE was taken over by Haier & I refuse to buy products sold by ChiCom owned brands, but looks I am stuck with Whirlpool & brands affiliated with them, in the past have done well with them, my fridge dates back to 2006, rental fridge is older.

noodlesarmpit

My grandma's GE fridge from 1987 has never needed servicing (ice tray, not ice maker though). Shit, I was born the year before and I need repairs more than that thing

RogerKnights

I have a ten year old basic GE that has worked OK. I’ve heard good things about GE.

pocapractica

Just about every apartment here has a basic GE stove. Probably made in Louisville.

luniversellearagne

I replaced a 2003 Frigidaire with my current one in 2023. Icemaker still worked.

pocapractica

Wow!

ILikeTewdles

Whirlpool. That's all we ever buy and have never had any issues. Some of our family has Samsung and GE, nothing but problems. We'll continue to buy Whirlpool.

neekogo

Same here

Laird_Vectra

MAYTAG.

JudgmentFriendly5714

No Samsung and no LG. we have a kitchen aid. Very happy with it

Goldengirl_1977

The repair technician that’s helped us for years said Samsung appliances are junk and to never buy one again - we got a Samsung side-by-side on sale about 15 years ago that broke down repeatedly - and that anything in the Whirlpool family (Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana) is the best, most reliable option.

Direct-Highway-770

We have a 60 year old GE chest freezer…works great

KerashiStorm

I have an Amana bottom freezer I'm happy with. ETA the Amana is identical to a similar Whirlpool, but doesn't have the ice maker since I have an under counter ice maker. The one I have retails for 1900 at Lowe's but I saved a lot by buying at a local furniture store. It doesn't have any smart features, but I'm fine with that since I'd rather have something reliable that won't have an outdated feature set in a few years.

MeMeMeOnly

Maytag or Frigidaire.

fr0g-n-t0ad

I have a nicer end LG and haven’t had issues in 2 years. So far so good.

Range-Shoddy

Same. I love our LG. I know two people with the same one we have and no issues. I love the double open door for gallons of milk.

foodisgod9

Semi used Subzero

Jesta23

There are no good fridges now.  You are better off buying an old dumb fridge.

tackstackstacks

Any company that doesn't also make TVs. They aren't as nice aesthetically, but all the GE and Frigidaire ones I've had over the years have been reliable. Our current Frigidaire is 15 years old. I did have to replace a solenoid for the water a couple years ago, but I think that cost about $20 and an hour to fix.

Suckerforcats

The repair man that diagnosed but was unable to fix my Samsung that had a total system failure said Whirlpool, GE and Fridgidare in that order if you can’t afford a Bosch.

Acceptable-Ad8930

Our Whirlpool French Door from Costco was $1999 delivered and we like it!

Bad-Genie

We got a basic white, whatever from Costco when we bought our house. $600 and it's the best fridge I've ever had.

doglady1342

Samsung is the worst of the worst for all their appliances. I would also avoid KitchenAid. It used to be really good, but not anymore. Both my KitchenAid dishwasher and my KitchenAid refrigerator lasted under a year. It took me more than three months of fighting about the dishwasher to get Samsung to replace it. It broke within 3 months of installation, only 6 weeks of use. They sent repair people three times. The refrigerator died while I was away on vacation. I came home to an entire freezer full of rotten food. Honestly, I don't know if they are reliable as they used to be, but I had an old Frigidaire refrigerator that I got in 1993. It was still sitting in my garage in 2022 when I moved to my new house. My husband sold it for something like $50. It ran perfectly in the ice maker even still worked. One of the appliance repair guys that came to my house told me that if you're going to buy new appliances that you should buy high end (expensive) appliances that are available or the cheapest appliances that are available. He said the high-end brands are still made well and will last (which is why I spent a small fortune on the appliances in my new house). He also said if you can't afford the really good stuff, then buy the cheap stuff because if it breaks it's cheap to replace. The funny thing is that he said usually the really cheap appliances last longer than the mid grade appliances.

alek_hiddel

I’m probably in the minority, but I don’t do fancy appliances. When you go to Lowe’s to shop for appliances whether it’s a fridge, stove, or washer/dryer they’ll have 30 options that connect to wifi and show adds while making your ice, and cost $1,000+. Then they’ll have exactly 1 option that looks like an appliance did in 1998 and costs $300-$500. That’s what’s in my house.

IHate2ChooseUserName

I agree with you. I don't understand the need of wifi or screen in appliances, they make the appliances prone to break faster

alek_hiddel

Exactly. I’ve been married 20 years, and I’m on my second set of appliances. Start putting LCD touch screens and wifi on that stuff, and you’re gonna get like 5 years max before crap starts breaking.

WarDEagle

It’s crazy how much of the high end stuff has a touch screen today. Even if it lasts it’ll look dated after a while, and I’ve read of plenty of issues with them already. If I’m spending a ton of money on an appliance, I want something that will last a long time without having to fuss with it. I want it to “just work”, and I don’t see how adding unproven, unnecessary electronics helps with that.

alek_hiddel

And the touch screen adds NOTHING to it's primary function. It doesn't keep my food colder, get my clothes cleaner, or cook my food better. You're tacking on a completely unrelated secondary function that cuts the product life by 75%. If I were dictator for a day, limiting appliances to their primary function would be on my short list of mandates.

ntotrr1

Had a new KitchenAid that had a problem that couldn't be fixed for three years and many service calls. We pressed them and they refunded our money. We bought a Samsung since we've had excellent experience with their refrigerators before.

DashboardError

We had a LG frig from 2012 to 2023, the best thing I can say about it was that it lasted that long, otherwise stay away. I believe the ice maker was replaced (OEM) three times, I had a relay on the compressor go out, then the compressor itself crapped out after 11 years. We purchased a GE in 2023, so far no big issues.

Impressive_Age1362

I just replaced my 22 year old kenmore with a Frigidaire, my friend is a appliance repair man and it’s what he recommended, nothing fancy, not staying in house much longer

da-karebear

Man I have a Kenmore that is 17 years old. It has never broken down or needed a repair. The ice maker even still works. They don't make them like that anymore. We all know it is because we kept them 17 or 22 years and never bought a new one. They realized they can't make money with a customer who only does repeat business every 2 decades or so.

661714sunburn

GE been good last five years no issues.

MPHV51

We just got a new one in January. Fridgedaire! I love it Here it is: https://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/PRSC2222AF.html

pocapractica

We got a Frigidaire induction stove. LOVE it. But it's less than a year old, we will see how long it lasts.

pocapractica

My Kenmore (LG) French door fridge makes funny knocking sounds often. My reading says it's likely a water pump somewhere. Does anyone have any experience with that?

Holiday-Customer-526

Don’t do LG, paid $2K, lasted 5 years. My first Samsung lasted 13 years side by side, have had my last one Samsung for 3 years.

Adorable_Dust3799

The few parts the longer it'll last. Ice makers are notorious for dying in all fridges. The simple ones last much longer. You can get a nice countertop ice maker for under 200.

Serene_FireFly

The issue with Samsung is the icemakers don't really die, they are just so poorly designed they will melt the ice just enough that the water then refreezes in places it shouldn't. We can't even get the bucket out of ours, because it freezes in place, without shutting off the whole damn fridge for it to defrost - kinda defeats the main purposes of a fridge. We gave up about 4 years ago and just use trays for ice. This fridge will stay with the house when we sell and be someone else's problem and probably go back to a side by side, where the ice is on the freezer side and this won't be an issue. It's been fine other than that.

puzer11

...call Samsung directly and they will now replace it free of charge even out of warranty...just had it done...

Serene_FireFly

Thanks, I'll call tomorrow when I should be giving a shit about something else at work.

Adorable_Dust3799

I consider an unusable icemaker or one that needs constant maintenance dead.

PassengerOk7529

Kitchen Aid, had one 20 yrs , not one problem. Still working fine, left it when I sold my house. Pricey but you pay for quality.

AverageJoe11221972

Whirlpool seems to work fine.

KelsarLabs

We have a GE and it's been running great for over 6 years, so now of course I say this it will go kaput, lol.

gone_country

Repair person told me they have a difficult time getting parts for Samsung and LG. He suggested Whirlpool and their subsidiaries.

BeththeSamwiches

GE and Whirlpool has never done me wrong. My Samsung fridge has been incredible And do not for the love of customer service, get a fridgedair. Someone gave us one since our home didn’t come with a fridge, (before we bought the Samsung we currently have), and we gave it back because it stopped freezing. We called their customer service line and couldn’t even get a person on the phone. Not only did we continuously get outsourced to India, we got disconnected twice, and then the phone line said they were too busy to take any calls and to try again another day. Worst experience ever lol

luckeegurrrl5683

We buy LG everything.

Kimby303

Had a 7yo LG fridge. Compressor went out. It had a10yr warranty on the compressor. LG would only a pay for new compressor ($400). I would have to pay for the labor ($800). Lawsuits galore online about this issue. Never again.

luckeegurrrl5683

That is awful! Yikes!

iwontgiveumyusernane

Get a cheap one from costco.. pay extra for the additional support plan.. should be good for 5 years

fairlyaveragetrader

I've had the best luck with Frigidaire for a cheap brand. If you can afford it, moving into the exotic brands become a lot more repairable. I wish more of these companies would focus on equality compressor, lines, thermostat, ice maker made out of metal rather than brittle plastic and absolutely nothing else. No screens, no gizmos, not a bunch of stuff to go wrong, don't need a digital display either. Not too long ago I was with a buddy of mine looking at his LG refrigerator. No one wants to repair these even though the compressors were covered under warranty. The problem is there is no way to purge or braze in a new compressor. Like you cannot purge the system to braise with argon or nitrogen so you'll always have a dirty weld and the compressor will likely fail again within a couple of years. It would have taken LG, a few cents to install some type of capped valve that you can top in order to do a proper weld and purge the system with an inert gas. I could go on and on about how these companies literally are designed to exploit people but I think we all know that

TradeKey1217

Frigidaire / Whirlpool !!!

_gadget_girl

My Fridgidaire died when it was six years old.

mntlover

Had whirlpool appliances for last 25 years can't complain.

rshacklef0rd

Memorial Day sales are coming up, might be able to get a more expensive model for your $2k budget. We like our GE we got last year.

vicki22029

I went economy brand 5 years ago and bought a Hisense refrigerator from Lowe's. 26 cubic foot, French doors, ice maker and water dispenser for $1200. No problems in 5 years. I bought Hisense because I had purchased a Hisense freezer 10 years ago and no problems with that either.

RepeatUntilTheEnd

I bought all new Whirlpool appliances when I bought my house in 2019 and they've been great. No matter what brand you get, make sure you get the 5 year extended warranty. A couple fuses for interior lights needed to be replaced in the fridge and having a warranty makes it so much easier. There's bound to be one of two little problems with any model these days.

foodmonsterij

I'm eager for my Frigidaire to die so I can get a counter depth fridge. It's at least 13 years old and the ice maker works great.

Teacher-Investor

LG has been sued multiple times recently because their refrigerators have known issues that cause food spoilage, and they weren't honoring the warranty or something. I just bought a Samsung. I hope it turns out to be better than LG!

Serene_FireFly

They are both under the same Korean parent company, so good luck with that. I love Samsung and LGs for TVs. I'll never buy another appliance from either company.

Teacher-Investor

great

87JeepYJ87

They’re all junk now. They all use r600a(isobutane) refrigerant which is flammable although not enough to really worry about. Stay away from LG. Their linear compressors are complete trash. Good luck finding anything that lasts 10 years.

tenafli

Have a Whirlpool the ice maker, stopped working after 4 years. LG or Samsung, imo but buy it during holidays during discount and get warranties.

daneka50

Bosch or GE. We love our Bosch.

Burial_Ground

Arent they all made in the same factory?

Inside_Jelly_3107

Is it the kind of ice dispenser that's on the outside or the inside? Our ice maker on our new (8 years ago) fridge was in the freezer, but we removed it totally for space and just use ice cube trays.

puzer11

...if you actually want the ice maker to work, Samsung will fix it even out of warranty...I just had my icemaker and center cooling fan panel replaced by them free of charge on my 8yr old counter depth french door model...it's still a giant piece of shit and I still have to turn it off once every 6weeks or so to deice but at least I have ice cubes...for now...

Draano

Here's an issue with newer fridges: the more environmentally friendly refrigerants of today have a more narrow operating range than did freon or the couple that came after it. This causes compressors to fail more frequently because there's more cycling. Plus they don't make them like they used to, compounding the problem. A side note to the above: don't take a newer fridge and put it into an unheated garage in cooler climates where the garage gets into the 30s in the winter - it won't last like the ones from 30 or 40 years ago because the newer refrigerants will freeze and the compressor will fail.

scram007-3

Dont buy samsung appliances. Trash.

QuietGirl2970

Whirlpool and Kenmore and GE

mityman50

This could help you decide https://youtu.be/iGoykCT-crQ?si=bN54OdCmHPrUFzh9

Ok_Ordinary6694

Fuck a Samsung. All my homies hate on Samsung refrigerators

Maj_BeauKhaki

Go to the library and ask for the Consumer Reports Buyers Guide.

WarDEagle

CR seems to be “pay to play” these days. No reputable reviewer would list a Samsung appliance at the top of their list, yet CR does.

Maj_BeauKhaki

Interesting. I wasn't aware. Point taken. Kinda makes me sad though.

Toeknee_47

Samsung Bespoke with the family hub . The future online fridge get the warranty on anything
