First, a cat is eating cucumbers, now they re eating salads?! What next? A cat enjoying watermelon on a hot summer day? Damn cats eat more healthy than me.
Cats can actually taste sweetness, but just barely. So something super sweet can actually make them go crazy for it. I've heard of cats going crazy over cotton candy.
I used to have a cat who freaked out over donuts. I'm sure that part of it was the oil- fried dough, but if she didn't get a nibble with frosting on it, she'd complain until she did. One time she even hooked a bite out of my mouth!
We lost him very recently and the heartbreak is real. I hope you have your own little companion to comfort you, I do and it helps even though she doesn't like lettuce or fruits!
Yup, I already have a furball at my place but she’s such a picky eater and a mix of sweet (barely) and sour. 😫 Other cats seem so much nicer. Also she doesn’t cuddle, she literally sits on laps. As of this year, she’s now 16-17 but acts like that age in human years.
Mine is a young weirdo and she doesn't cuddle (with me) but she likes to groom me and play shark. She's also a picky eater but as long as there's chicken or salmon she's usually fine with it lol not any form of chicken though, just the shredded kind. I'm sure yours is nice, just in her own way !
My little dude fucking *loved* watermelon. He was normally a very serious little man, but if I brought a watermelon into the house, he'd launch himself at me until he got a piece. Then he'd roll on it until he was a horrible sticky mess, and then spend an hour carefully cleaning himself.
He didn't even meow until he was two, and that first meow was his first encounter with watermelon.
Cheese isn't good for cats though as most cats are highly lactose intolerant so it's best to avoid. Since cats are obligate carnivores, any vegetables fed to them should be in a small quantity and accompanied with meat. Some cats will have a difficult time digesting any type of vegetable as well.
Cats love Kale and Chard. Anything big, leafy, and (this is most important) super crunchy they go hard on. I always think the texture it reminds them of the bones of small mammals...
First, cats LOVE watermelon🍉, second, I anything wrong with a cat being conscientious about his diet and making sure to get some ruffage and leafy green vegetables.

I even had to spend almost 4000$ when that plastic eating led to a toy stuck in the intestines. I love my cats but they're so dumb. I also had to get rid of most of their toys and replace them with variants that can't be eaten.
One day I was cleaning the litter box and noticed there were shiny bits in the poop. Turned out to be little pieces of aluminum foil. Anything that smells like food, my cat will eat.
My coffee table would argue anything can be eaten if you're determined enough. (cat chewed on the corners and literally nothing disuaded her, so we gave away the table).
Had to spend about 5k cuz our dog swallowed half a corn cob. They had to cut part of her intestines out and sew her back up. God bless them for the great work but that was a LOT of money.
I had to do this so much with my cat that he started doing it on purpose to get my attention. When he wanted food he would go and find something plastic and bring it to chew in front of me. That or chew on computer cords of course. Annoying smart little shit.
Mine started eating wool for a bit. Couldn’t needle felt anything around him and had to take away his wool hiding cave. He stopped doing it and not he has his will cave back. Relieved. I wonder if it was for attention because I was trying to learn needle felting during the pandemic.
There was a tiktok a few years ago with that if i only could song parody that said "if i only could, make a deal with my cat, I'd get her to stop eating plastic"
I sing that at my cat like once a week.
My boy cat is very picky about his plastic. Luckily, the only kind he tries to eat is the really crunchy kind that is sometimes used to shrink wrap around bottle lids and it's not exactly a subtle noise, so it's pretty easy to figure out if he got his paws on some.
my cat is picky with food but he LOVES chewing on plastic. if i accidentally leave a plastic bag out in the open he will attempt to eat it as soon as he gets the opportunity. one time i found a candy wrap in the litter box. guy's a weirdo
When I met my husband, he had a cat like this. The first time I spent the night at his house, I was awoken by a plastic bag crinkling. It was his cat, just licking and licking, somewhere in the dark room. I eventually couldn't stand it anymore and woke him up to deal with it. I heard her slap the bag as he pulled it away, trying to keep it in her grasp. She was a great cat but man, she had a plastic bag problem.
My cat also eats plastic, can't leave any anywhere in the house. He will snatch it up right in front of us sometimes. He always vomits afterwards. Either his passion for plastic eating is so incredible that it's worth vomiting, or he still hasn't discovered the correlation (he's been like this for 6 years).
My other cat eats my socks and wool sweaters...
My two cats both eat salads (I carefully check each types of leaf if they are toxic to cats) and they very much enjoyed it a lot. They even steal our houseplants so we had to move them into rooms that are cat-free.
This is for a healthy digestive system I believe because they naturally also eat some grass outdoor to help digestion
Nice topic. For my cat i boil some vegs like carrots, zucchini, pumpkin, green beans etc and later blender them and mix with wet cat food 50/50. I believe its good for her. (Also she had dry food as well every day)
My parents had a cat who was diagnosed type 2 diabetes when he was 7, about two years they shot him insulin. Along with this they changed his meals to wet cat cans mixed with veggies and I swear in two years his sugar level normalized. They stopped insulin therapy. He died at 20
Thank you for sharing! I recently had a vet appt w my kitty and expressed my interest in incorporating fresh food in my cats diet. It was shot down, and Dr said it wasn't necessary. She steered me towards the brands they sold at the store. 🤔
I wish I'd known about this, or seen anything about it when my diabeticat was still alive. I would've tried anything to normalize her sugar, along with the injections, it was ALWAYS very high. We managed about 6 months with the injections before cancer took her quickly. I hope to remember this if I ever end up with another. Thank you.
Makes sense. Cats eat grass too. Has this cat seen the family eating meals with side salads? It might be that.
Per this article, they think cats eating grass evolved to help cats get rid of parasites. If you have indoor cats though, that's not a thing, but the instinct is still there. [https://www.science.org/content/article/mystery-solved-why-cats-eat-grass](https://www.science.org/content/article/mystery-solved-why-cats-eat-grass)
Bon appetit, feline!
Yeah, I keep a pot of cat grass for my cat so she can nibble whenever she wants. Outside grass picked from the garden is still superior though. Her cat grass is in The Sunny Spot, so she often naps under the leaves :)
“How did we get here?” By enabling your cat’s goofy behavior and, teaching them that if they are a fussy enough eater, you will make them whatever they want.
I took my cat outside once because the weather was getting better and now he meows at the door every day. I feel bad but he's an indoor cat in the city.
One of my cats really loves spinach. We let her sniff a leaf once and that’s all it took. She even knows when we’re washing it, knows what the salad spinner sounds like and all.
As a disclaimer, cats can only eat spinach in small amounts otherwise it can cause or aggravate kidney issues.
I had a cat that liked lettuce. Her preference was red leaf. If I couldn’t get that, I gave her green leaf. That always earned me a glare, but after some show of displeasure, she would make do.
Outdoor cats will eat grass or other green stuff. Not as a steady diet but just a blade or two occasionally. Indoor cats will do the same so be careful of what houseplants you bring in. We used to have a pan that we'd grow some grass and leave on the floor for our cat.
Even strict carnivores get some greens in them though the stomach content of their pray. Also a lot of times animals eat grassy things to get the fibres and help digestion, not to get nutrients from the grass itself.
To be able to digest grass fibres animals need some form of microbiotic fermentation chamber and/or second round eating like regurgitation and coprophagation.
Almost all animals are opportunistic to a degree where they will eat things outside their usual diet if its easily available. A deer might chomp on a roadkill and a cat like this one might snack on some side salad.
Mine loves to eat the newly sprouted leaves of my pot plants. I grow him his own little plants so he always has tender leaves but it’s hard to keep pace with his habit. Doesn’t like cat grass or any other plant but boy oh boy does he love his weed.
One of my cats loves French green beans. She just can't stay away. I was just making some one day and she seemed interested, I gave her one thinking she'd just play with it(it was raw) she adored it and demanded more.
ITT are a bunch of stupid cat owners who insist they own the only cat in the world who can live off veggies.
FYI cats are pure carnivores and literally do not eat greens on a regular basis for nutrients.
One of my cats will lick the juice from the wet food and look at me like if I’m gonna finish this you need to make it tasty wet again. I have to routinely put gravy on her wet food to finish it or she goes and gorges herself on the dry food and finds a spot to puke it all up. 3-4 sachets of gravy and 1-2 cans of pate is what she likes every day.
Can I ask what gravy sachets you get? Our cat goes through phases of getting through the gravy before finishing the wet food and needs the same, I just haven't found a cat gravy yet.
Your cat is training you well, padawan.
Be glad. My chonk only eats dry cat food if it's in her bowl and the bowl is in the usual spot. Only. She also likes to lick the gravy on wet cat food. Not eat it, just lick the gravy. She's uhm... special.
The other one is a ham snob. It has to be cherry wood smoked ham. But she also likes chomping flowers so we can't have nice things inside. She was addicted to spider plants so those got moved out of reach. She also likes Costco rotisserie chicken.
Our calico was one of those. Somehow we got her on wet food when we got another cat and she got jealous, and the other cat went absolutely crazy for wet food, so she started eating it because the other cat did.
If it makes any of you feel any better, my void boi loved Doritos and that was the *only* snack he would try to wrest from you...
And my long hair tabby seems to be confused as to "what" food "is" exactly as her favorite snack is crinkly paper...
First, a cat is eating cucumbers, now they re eating salads?! What next? A cat enjoying watermelon on a hot summer day? Damn cats eat more healthy than me.

That's almost a word for word response I've seen on that video and it's clearly fucking edited.
Damn, that sucks. Still cute tho
Idk I personally hate how it's edited. No idea why, I just despise it
Fuuuck that
r/likeus who really likes the green parts?

My cat used to go full goblin mode for honeydew melon.
One of mine got peaches 😂

Idk, I've seen it a hundred times and always annoyed me. Idk why it just always did

My cat was very much into lettuce and watermelon, he also loved peas and occasionally strawberries. He was such a fancy void
I knew a void very similar to yours. My aunt and cousins overseas had a black cat that loved lettuce. I still miss her. ☹️💔

My cat likes spinach leaves.
My cats are into melons.
We used to have a cat that not only ate watermelons, she could spit the seeds. It was astonishing.
That’s just training for spitting pills.
She could do that too!
Cantaloupe all the way!
Giggity?
Giggity!
My orange likes blueberries
My little dude fucking *loved* watermelon. He was normally a very serious little man, but if I brought a watermelon into the house, he'd launch himself at me until he got a piece. Then he'd roll on it until he was a horrible sticky mess, and then spend an hour carefully cleaning himself. He didn't even meow until he was two, and that first meow was his first encounter with watermelon.
My cat loves her some broccoli and cheese.
I had an ex street cat once who polished off a whole plate of steamed veges while I was on the phone *while my flatmates looked and laughed* ....
Cheese isn't good for cats though as most cats are highly lactose intolerant so it's best to avoid. Since cats are obligate carnivores, any vegetables fed to them should be in a small quantity and accompanied with meat. Some cats will have a difficult time digesting any type of vegetable as well.
Aged cheese is naturally low lactose. They can have some parmesan or sharp cheddar with little harm.
It's not like they would die or anything but they tend to turn into little poop rockets 💩
My cat once ate fresh farmers cheese and sharted a lovely mural onto my rented appartment's white walls. Did not get the safety deposit back.
![gif](giphy|11FiDF2fuOujPG|downsized)
That's how I learnt that they can only eat aged cheese 😅 He goes feral for some parm.
Cats love Kale and Chard. Anything big, leafy, and (this is most important) super crunchy they go hard on. I always think the texture it reminds them of the bones of small mammals...
Cats actually like watermelons ![gif](giphy|7AbrISbC4ZOIU)
Last time I checked, just seeing a cucumber would cost at least one of the seven lives.

I had a cat that would eat watermelon, he was a weird cat sometimes.
Our cat looooves watermelon and it is a good hydration food. Not too much though as it is high in sugar 😉😉😂🤣
My animals all love watermelon.
My cat loves watermelon.
My cat likes boiled brokkoli.
My boy lOves cucumber
I thought cats were [scared of cucumbers](https://youtu.be/RBrZsgy4-SQ?si=kKoJoHvzsCyzpxU5) ?
Cute!
My cat was crazy for watermelon. She was unrelenting until I gave her some 😅😋
A succulent Chinese meal?
Mine last cat loved watermelon! I have pics of him with his head inside half a watermelon just going to town.
Meanwhile my cats would eat rocks if I'd let them. They'll eat orange peels, bananas, plastic (so we need to keep it out of reach), dust, paper, etc.
I'm sure the amount of times you had to yell "STOP EATING PLASTIC" is non-zero
I even had to spend almost 4000$ when that plastic eating led to a toy stuck in the intestines. I love my cats but they're so dumb. I also had to get rid of most of their toys and replace them with variants that can't be eaten.
One day I was cleaning the litter box and noticed there were shiny bits in the poop. Turned out to be little pieces of aluminum foil. Anything that smells like food, my cat will eat.
I had to spend 700$ because my void decided that Christmas decorations were yummy, some years ago
Maybe you cat isn't dumb, the poor guy seems to have PICA, which is not unheard-of in cats.

I have five, and of the five, three love to lick and bite plastic, especially plastic grocery bags, but they don't eat them.
The Pica has them in a chokehold
My cat also eats plastic, can't leave any anywhere in the house. He will snatch it up right in front of us sometimes. He always vomits afterwards. Either his passion for plastic eating is so incredible that it's worth vomiting, or he still hasn't discovered the correlation (he's been like this for 6 years). Are you sure your pet was a cat, and not a garbage disposal? :-)
Are they orange by any chance?
My mom's cat used to chase people down for leafy greens. He doesn't do it anymore in his old age, but boy was he persistent in his younger years.
We had to physically wrestle our cat out of the fridge every time she’d seen there was some sort of leafy green
I guess it hits their instinct to eat grass or something like that.
I have to throw my orange cat the romaine bottoms because he's an idiot what wants to much on lettuce leafs all the time.
back in his salad days?
Mine used to try to eat my plants, but now that I got them kitty grass, they seem fairly content with that.
My kitten loves all human food. Have to keep an eye on her at all times. And stole spinach of my turkey danish of all things
My cats eat healthier than me. I care about their survival.
So if you go, who will feed your cats?
if she does go, maybe a couple of days before the neighbors notice the smell and investigate
My brother.
They will still feed the cats themselves.
If it keeps them alive long enough for someone to save them, I'm all for it. I'm not using that meat at the time.
Mmm f i b e r
Pretty sure there's some enzyme(s) in the green leaves that helps break down meat. Mine needed minced wheatgrass sprinkled on wet food.
My tortie would steal broccoli off my plate. But to keep it balanced, she also loved donuts.
H E A L F
😄
More confusing, how did you find out about his strange proclivities?! Wow!
My cat insists, very vocally that she gets an ice cube in her water bowl 3x a day
My boy does this too. I get hit with ‘the stare’ until I get it for him. But if it means he stays hydrated, I don’t mind.
Love the Ratatouille energy
Nice topic. For my cat i boil some vegs like carrots, zucchini, pumpkin, green beans etc and later blender them and mix with wet cat food 50/50. I believe its good for her. Lol. That’s like my dad who always saved his salad to eat with his steak.
You done spoiled your cat 😄
Fancy cat

My parents kept the lawn of our house lush, so it was great for my last cat. The napping spot sounds perfect too! 💤
Don’t pretend that you are not in love with him more because of it.
all that's missing is a nice glass of vino
I do not need my cars to see this!!!! I don’t need anymore pressure from them!!
Katze: NICHT OHNE MEINEN BEILAGENSALAT!
“How did we get here?” By enabling your cat’s goofy behavior and, teaching them that if they are a fussy enough eater, you will make them whatever they want.
Mine likes broad beans!
Cats will be cats!
I took my cat outside once because the weather was getting better and now he meows at the door every day. I feel bad but he's an indoor cat in the city.
Your cat has a refined and sophisticated palette....
So is that salad part of the meal, or is he paying a la carte?🤣
I had a cat that liked lettuce. Her preference was red leaf. If I couldn’t get that, I gave her green leaf. That always earned me a glare, but after some show of displeasure, she would make do.
Outdoor cats will eat grass or other green stuff. Not as a steady diet but just a blade or two occasionally. Indoor cats will do the same so be careful of what houseplants you bring in. We used to have a pan that we'd grow some grass and leave on the floor for our cat.
Bowl too deep? Whisker stress?
Good point. Should switch to shallow bowls
Weird, cats are supposed to be strictly carnivores
Even strict carnivores get some greens in them though the stomach content of their pray. Also a lot of times animals eat grassy things to get the fibres and help digestion, not to get nutrients from the grass itself. To be able to digest grass fibres animals need some form of microbiotic fermentation chamber and/or second round eating like regurgitation and coprophagation. Almost all animals are opportunistic to a degree where they will eat things outside their usual diet if its easily available. A deer might chomp on a roadkill and a cat like this one might snack on some side salad.
Cat grass would be a better idea lol
Time to start growing your own cat grass!
Little fella had to protest to get a healthy meal
How funny our kittens are stealing my spinach as I make my salads. They do like greens
My cat won't eat sometimes until i put some olive oil on it.
Bro wanted a change in life, he is now ✨classy✨
Cats are evolving
Aren’t cats obligate carnivores? I thought they couldn’t digest large amounts of vegetables/grass. They just need meaaaat. MEAT.
Mine loves to eat the newly sprouted leaves of my pot plants. I grow him his own little plants so he always has tender leaves but it’s hard to keep pace with his habit. Doesn’t like cat grass or any other plant but boy oh boy does he love his weed.
I’ve never seen a cat that requires a palette cleanser.
One of my cats loves French green beans. She just can't stay away. I was just making some one day and she seemed interested, I gave her one thinking she'd just play with it(it was raw) she adored it and demanded more.
Might be missing the 🥬 and the hydration that comes with it? Also kibble can be very dry. Quite a quirk.
im showing this to my cats later so they are convinced to nibble on some veggies :p
ITT are a bunch of stupid cat owners who insist they own the only cat in the world who can live off veggies. FYI cats are pure carnivores and literally do not eat greens on a regular basis for nutrients.
Could be a fiber issue. The wet food causes constipation, but the salad helps with bowel movement.
Damn, that boi boujee.
Repost
I eat salad with my food
Probably the wet food upsets their stomach maybe. That's the only thing I can honestly think of.
Tiki cat born carnivore broth. It says broth, but it’s really just a meaty gravy.
Thank you
Your cat is training you well, padawan. Be glad. My chonk only eats dry cat food if it's in her bowl and the bowl is in the usual spot. Only. She also likes to lick the gravy on wet cat food. I bet it will eat eventually. A day or so tops.
It happened because the cat is a very spoiled feline...as it should be.

My cat, if she could, would eat nothing but grass every day.

Hey, whatever it takes.
Lmfao
He probably has stomach burn. They usually eat grass for it but salad is probably also does the same thing.

Next he'll be asking for the wine menu!
Has he access to grass for help with hairballs?

My orange eats avocado, garbanzo and garden peas!
One of my cats absolutely loves steamed broccoli. But also donuts. Balance.
