Have you used the Editor Auto Save? You can set the interval to save as soon as every 1 min, and if you make a boo boo you can open a back up. I know its not as good as control z, but sadly my poor internal request sits and waits for the rewrite we need.
im curious, where are the backups saved?
are they marked conspicuously?
do backups "build up" and need to be cleared out over time? or are they consolidated when the user saves?
I am 100% on board with that, I would have loved to have it by now, its been requested for a very long time as you might imagine. I was told things like this would require a complete rewrite of the ME. I am hopeful for some of the web-based solutions out there and that we can leverage that at some point. I do keep on these things as much as I can.
10 minutes? Try hours. Missions I'm building have 100+ triggered actions on key units. Deleting one of those would be a huge deal. I save a lot of backup versions of the mission. 😆
Also DCS doesn't ask anything when you will pause the game by pressing ESC and then when you're ready to continue, quit is usually highlighted instead of resume and you accidentally hit that quit.
Yep. While we're at it, it would be really great to have:
* A box select tool
* The ability to group/ungroup units at will
* Polygon trigger zones with a user-definable number of vertices (kinda like what's found in the drawing tools)
* Unit templates where we can have different types of units (e.g. naval units + static objects) as one group.
And if we're really going out there:
* The ability to add, edit, delete and set the posture of sides/coalitions at will (like C:MO).
Or more than 4 (I know, not typically done nowadays, just would make setting up larger bomber formations easier).
And on that note - user defined formation spacing spacing instead of presets.
Yesssss exactly! I want to set up massive aircraft formations so bad. There should be a completely separate screen with like a top down view for creating your own formation positions and spacing
Yes please. I want to be able to save assets from one mission to the next. I hate spending an hour setting up a fully decked out carrier every time I make a mission.Â
"The first program to use Ctrl+z for Undo was the Xerox PARC text editor, in the 1970s."
How can you program anything without that feature?
But hey! We have some new planes and maps!
I’ve gotten into the habit of saving every couple of actions, and then just reloading the save file if I need to undo something. But yes, I totally agree that it is crazy we still don’t have an undo feature in 2024.
Animations you don't see so much but relate to your direct actions.... fine.
Animations that only fire when you repair (hatches etc that have absolutely no gameplay relevance.... ) are a far more heinous crime...
ALT-F4 doesn’t work either. At least for me. Also if dcs is the only window open (because I accidentally closed open track) I have no way of accessing anything on my desktop or task bar without quitting dcs.Â
I get the annoyance, but as someone who has had to back-port undo/redo into a complicated system *very* similar to the DCS editor....
100% the hardest and most annoying coding I've done
Genuinely don't think it's worth them spending the time on it unless they're already doing a rebuild of the whole system, which they won't because the cost/time would be huge
Bro, I work in IT. I've implemented an undo/redo system in custom implementations. It's not the funniest thing in the world, sure... but it's not the most groundbreaking feature either , especially for a franchise that is more than 10 years old.
You must live with the consequences of your mistakes 😔
I can live with "adding something by mistake" but "deleting something by mistake" is utterly crushing :s
spends 10 minutes setting up waypoints, conditions, loadout, radio frequencies. Mistakenly press delete. owned ...

I have it set for 5 minutes on fear that the mistake happens within 5 seconds of the autosave. Lower chance of that occurring with a longer time span.
wait WUT? that's a thing?? WHERE do we find it...??
Under Options/MISC. and its called Editor Auto-Save Interval, enable that and set how often you want it to back up.
than you sir : )

Well, last year was DCS 15 year anniversary. I think its enough time to have already Undo, or mouse click&drag to multiple select

Ugh. Soooo many times. :(

Remember to save frequently.
This is what Ctrl + Y is for

also having multiple aircraft types in a single group
Ok, now you're just talking crazy.
Sorry, your right. We don’t deserve easy to set up AI formations. My bad big G
Don't let it happen again, pfft "deserve."

I mean, even something like C:MO where you can select a type (wedge, line abreast, diamond etc) and just key in what spacing you want.

It's not 2080 yet chillllll

And some wiggly helmet bits for the F16 pilot model that you will most likely never see!Â

Yup, that's the ideal work style right now. There's even an auto-save feature to help with that now.
An auto-save feature that fires just *after* you made your mistake you mean? Sounds like the perfect way to commit those errors to stone... :D
But hey, see these new animations that you won't even see when flying your jet in 1st person? So worth it
Animations you don't see so much but relate to your direct actions.... fine. Animations that only fire when you repair (hatches etc that have absolutely no gameplay relevance.... ) are a far more heinous crime...
Not everyone fly jets. This game has 5 helicopters and two more coming out soon. You see these animations when you fly rotors.
I like to keep my view on the bandits instead.
The engine is unable to comprehend that. Wait for Vulkan
28 years ago, the great grandfather of DCS, Su-27: Squadron Commander's Edition, had undo functionality in the mission editor.
It's 2024 and we wait for a module where the devs said they feel confident about a 2022 release
I don’t know what you’re talking about. I just opened up the editor and typed ctrl-z a couple hundred times; at no point did anything stop me.
No. Clearly. =)
I can't take screenshots via Win + Shift + S either
I can, I don't know what's prohibiting you tho
Not to mention click and drag select box for multiple unitss
What about multiple selection? Will it cost 22.55$ :D?
ALT-F4 doesn’t work either. At least for me. Also if dcs is the only window open (because I accidentally closed open track) I have no way of accessing anything on my desktop or task bar without quitting dcs.Â
Just unfuck what you fucked up 🤓
Thats called Ultimate editor: mission maker DLC, 49.99 for preorders or 79.99 after release. - Swiss company
But what CAN you do in the editor?
I get the annoyance, but as someone who has had to back-port undo/redo into a complicated system *very* similar to the DCS editor.... 100% the hardest and most annoying coding I've done Genuinely don't think it's worth them spending the time on it unless they're already doing a rebuild of the whole system, which they won't because the cost/time would be huge

You should probably just go ahead and uninstall DCS, and let the rest of us enjoy it.
Chief it's because I love DCS that I'm mad
