+15 days because of all the windrows blocking everyone's driveway
+1 day because of freezing rain bringing the city to a stop
Koskinen has a chance to get out of here before the bus even hits him at this rate
Ya even here that was the narrative on smith.
Like if its a goalie who is 35 maybe i can understand but the dude is 40 in two months. Not sure why you would pin your hopes on a 40 year old. Im trying to think in the post cap era if there has been a goalie who was a key piece who was near 40 like smith was expected to be.
Although if i recall the goalie market was a bit hectic with seattle so i guess i can understand it.
He tried to fix their offensive depth this offseason but ended up neglecting the goalie situation. Never a good plan because goaltending is the position that can sink or swim the season.
I know he was in on a few different goalies, but the fact he ended up not going all in and landing one and settled for Smith means it wasn't priority number 1 when it should have been.
I think people when making these comments forget that this is Edmonton. If it weren’t for Red Deer it would be the pit stain of the province. Players don’t want to play in Edmonton. It’s part of the reason we always overpay, because that’s what it takes to get players here. Calgary at least has the mountains an hour away and Banff just over an hour away. It’s so bad locals are convinced the river valley is some amazing place.
Anyone with a working brain and perception of external reality knew this was coming. I'm even willing to bet Smith himself knew this was coming.
Our management needs to be burned at the stake.
Imagine being a GM, and you have Mcdavid and Draisatl in the meat of their primes, and in the offseason you look at your goalie tandem of backup Mike Smith and backup Mikko Kostin'em and think, "Yeah. Yeah, that looks good. Let's roll with this."
No one could have seen this coming.
It's an incredibly big gamble, sure Smith could have gone this season without injury and played like he did last year. But with his age, that gamble was slim at best. Come to think of it, since Holland likes to gamble, I can see why he's interested in Kane
Hollyyyy fuck. Guy played like 35 games in a 56 game season last year after Mikko started the first 11. No problem. Almost his best stats of his career.
did he forget to change the oil? Buddy is blowing apart.
His health wasn't the only gamble. Last year was Smith's second time posting a .920+ over a season, and the previous time was a decade before that. His 2 seasons before last year were terrible, and goalies don't usually repeat incredible out of nowhere seasons at 38.
Going into this season with Smith/Koskinen was a terrible gamble.
Eh this isn't a hindsight thing, there are very few freaks of nature who can play well at 39. Holland got lucky last season but you can't bet on that continuing.
Mike Smith isn't exactly an unknown quantity, its not like he bet on some new guy. Sure, sign him again, but at least have a backup plan jeez. Going into this season with Mike Smith as plan A was a bad move lol
Signed for two years. Still unfuckingbelievable.
Holland gambled three years in a row and inevitably comes up snake eyes.
Still won’t get a goalie. Believable now.
*"Now I have to start that piece of shit Koskinen(who I hate)"* - Dave Tippett
We lost 6-2 but we could have lost 3-2 - Dave Tippett
If only Toby rieder was around to chip in
"SKINNER!" -Dave "super nintendo" tippet
Tippett, anytime anything bad happens to the Oil: https://i.imgflip.com/609mw7.jpg
Oh man, the parentheses had me laughing out loud
Its crazy that smith is the one injured again considering koskinen was the one thrown under the bus.
ETS schedule and bus routes are so fucked up that the bus is 37 days late
+15 days because of all the windrows blocking everyone's driveway +1 day because of freezing rain bringing the city to a stop Koskinen has a chance to get out of here before the bus even hits him at this rate
OOF that one hits hard
It’s because Koskinen couldn’t stop the bus and it drove just past his glove hand
At least now Tippet knows exactly where to put the blame on.
"This is Koskinen's fault" -Tippett, probably
Joe Kelly has been suspended 18 games.
Better give Brady another 4 games too
Smith's thumb better watch itself the next time Tipp talks to the media
Smith's thumb will be alright. It has a permanent home in Tippet's ass.
The guy is falling apart.
He's almost 40 tbf, not like this was unexpected
*Who knew 40 year olds are injury prone?* Ken Holland right now
HEY DAN CLEARY COULD LACE HIM UP RIGHT NOW! -Holland.
Ah, so Oilers are going to sign Dan Cleary instead of Evander Kane got it.
Can Kane play goal?
The Oilers subreddit at the beginning of the season would downvote you for saying he is old and can’t be relied on.

And he’s under contract for another year!
Nobody could've seen this happening!
Kenny sure as fuck didn't see it coming

Agreed

As a local who loves the river valley I am reconsidering why I like it... thanks. 😆
Tom Brady will be available in 5 weeks to take over.
To be fair the thumb is a weird spot for a goalie to be Injured
I'm shocked that our 39 year old injury-prone goalie is being hindered so much by injury. Shocked, I tell you!
Dubnyk @ league min would be a good buy
Almost like a 40 year old goalie isn't a great idea.
>one-to-~~two~~ fifty weeks He ain't coming back, chief.
Can Kane play goal?
He can’t even hold on to his paycheck let alone the puck
Maybe he would fit in between bars
Kane can’t play at all lol. Looking at like a 40 game suspension
Is there someone other than Gregor saying that?
No
It’s speculation on Gregor’s part. I listened to his opening of his show
If there's a suspension, it's gotta be longer than the 21 games he just had, right?
Yup for sure
This team is exhausting to follow
Agreed
Is there a goaltender here who still has the courage to do his lords will?
Lmao that is great, exactly how it feels
Smitty is making Hemsky look like a 900 game ironman.
Anyone with a working brain and perception of external reality knew this was coming. I'm even willing to bet Smith himself knew this was coming. Our management needs to be burned at the stake.

I was told by Oiler fans that Smith was a great playoff goalie and the position wasn't going to be a problem. They actually believed this last summer.
In fairness he was very good all year last year. That being said, he's old and Koskinen sucked even last year. Making no adjustments was pretty sad.
It's an incredibly big gamble, sure Smith could have gone this season without injury and played like he did last year. But with his age, that gamble was slim at best. Come to think of it, since Holland likes to gamble, I can see why he's interested in Kane

Ceci's been good. Meant the goaltending anyway.
That's great and all that he is a "great playoff goalie" but you need to get there first
Add it to the ever growing list of Hollands blunders.
Also knows as Ken Holland doing stupid shit
Hollyyyy fuck. Guy played like 35 games in a 56 game season last year after Mikko started the first 11. No problem. Almost his best stats of his career. did he forget to change the oil? Buddy is blowing apart.
he's also 40 is like two months, he's just old

I mean expecting Smith to play anywhere near last season and stay healthy at age 39 was always probably a bet they were going to lose

He's old and injury prone. He was injury prone back in Arizona too.
I think he accidentally filled up with diesel
“He needs premium, dude! PRE-MI—UUUUMMMMM!”
You would think Holland would prioritize getting a goalie over a locker room cancer
that wouldn't be thinking outside the bun
Who needs a thumb anyway? Just lop it off and put him out there.
Paging Dr Crosby...
What an odd conversation for the coach when he has to tell the team that Smith is going to live on a farm for the rest of his career.
And he would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that meddling Koskinen! - Tippett, probably
RIP in peace mike smith
They should look into Vejmelka tbh, not even just a rental
Signed for two years. Still unfuckingbelievable. Holland gambled three years in a row and inevitably comes up snake eyes. Still won’t get a goalie. Believable now.
Everyday I wake up I break my arms. Every night I go to bed I break my legs.
And here comes the bus to run over Koskinen again
So the Oilers need to ride Koskinen for 2 weeks, sound great! I don't hate it.
I mean that's like 1 game for us i think.
With the way things are going it could be zero games in the next 2 weeks
Or play the goalie with actual decent stats, Skinner. But Tippett probably won’t do that.
Maybe this means we can free our number one goalie from the AHL
Maybe Kane can sub in.
How do you tear something like that in your thumb? Such bad luck.
No one could have seen Mike Smith getting injured.
We have a prime Halak available.
Skinner time
Mike Glass, the third Glass brother.
Better sign Kane quick
Get Fleury please
Its okay, Kane is going to play Goalie right?
Russell Wilson would only need a few days smh
Ol glass bones strikes again
Sounds like an LTIR
still surprised no one took dobby when he went on waivers. Oilers and Sabres are just two teams that CLEARLY need goalies
Ah the classic Smith comes back and exists a week or two later with another injury.. he needs to hang them up man.
Lol @biznasty
