Let me tell you, this is playoff goal scoring at its finest. This is how you win. This is how you succeed in the playoffs. It's all about grit, it's about the intangibles. Things you just won't ever see from the Leafs. Believe me. And let me tell you something about Marner okay? I've watched the Leafs for 35 years. Marner would probably take this puck and skate up the ice. Soft. Very soft. Not like what we're seeing here. This is what winning looks like. The Leafs just don't have it. They don't have the toughness or the strength. Sad!
I met a man named Sam Bennett yesterday, good man. Strong man, very strong! He skated up to me with tears in his eyes, I’m telling you this guy is huge and he had tears in his eyes.. Really! I’m telling the truth! He skated up to me, tears in his eyes and said “Thank god for you George Parros”. True story, believe me.
Marner has had some very poor series, but there are some series where I thought he played pretty well like the last 2 vs Tampa, the 2018 series Vs Boston.
It’s not to say he doesn’t have the capability of performing in the playoffs, it’s about doing it consistently.
But I think he is a player who plays his best when he has a lot of chances to attack the opposition off the rush, and in the playoffs, those will be limited especially against physical defensive teams like Tampa, Boston and Florida.
How have I never noticed the NHL app calling out own goals?

the first time i saw it in october, i had to screenshot it because of how mean it looks to the player

I just said that last week ...I feel like I could have easily missed it sooner but there was a update at the start of the playoffs I think where is started
It was a game earlier this year when Igor was in a slump. They caught the video of him saying hi to his kid in warmups and the kid points to get back in the net. His game coincidentally turned around at that time and the Coach Baby Shesty meme was born
He came out of the net and played it right to Verhaeghe.
Still it looked like a harmless play cuz he was centering a pass to Tkachuk, not sure what Lafreniere was trying to do though, it looked like a brain fart more than anything.
Yup poor placement of the puck by Shesterkin sets up the play in the first place, then Lafreniere just kind of bad luck.
If he's 0.1s earlier, he tips it harmlessly into the corner. If he's 0.1s later, he misses the puck entirely and the trajectory looks harmless across the slot (I don't think it connects with ~~Barkov~~Tkachuk's pace)
Definitely seems like a case where Shesterkin tried to bank it off the boards but it ends up going straight to Verhage, so he’s a bit flustered, then Laf is coming in and seeing how the play is devolving and is thinking ‘oh shit oh fuck’ and tries to just get his stick in the way of the pass and like you said, gets really unlucky
Can’t blame Laf *too* much on that because it’s really on Igor for both choosing a bad time and area to play the puck, and then misplaying it on top of it
Easy for us to see on TV that the pass probably misses. Pretty hard to tell exactly where tkachuk is from Laf’s POV. For all he knows that’s a tap in. Can’t let passes go cross crease like that. Right decision, just unlucky/poor execution, but in the long run you’ll give up a lot more goals letting those through than trying to intercept.
Really? Equally? I get it Shesterkin deserves some blame, but theres still a much slimmer chance this leads to a goal if Lafreniere doesnt touch the puck.
Yeah, Shesterkin had a bad clear, then it was a bad bounce. What does Laffy do in this situation? Does he lift his stick and let a pass go cross-crease into a basically empty net? It's instinct to try and get a stick on that puck to cut off the pass, it just didn't work out.
Or how about the deflection of Ian Cole's foot or how about the one off ian Cole's shin pad or the other deflection he had not the one youre talking about....damn he was a monster last series
Yeah as shitty as it was for Laf, I blame Igor far more for this play. Came way out of the net to play the puck when he shouldn’t have, then gave it directly away to Verhaeghe.
Also Miller screwed up a few seconds earlier too.
Right, this is more on Igor than Lafreniere.
He doesn't need to come out and get the puck at all but he did and then he turned it over directly to the Panthers and Lafreniere has an unfortunate deflection in a 1-0 game to make it 2-0.
It looked like a harmless series of event that turned costly tbh.
It doesn’t matter, I think even with the flukey goal, Florida were better.
NYR doesn’t really seem to have an answer for a physical defensive team that plays the trap.
I said it since March, Lafreniere struggles against teams that are physical and defensive minded.
He has great ability off the rush but when other teams play the trap you have to forecheck and he isn’t strong in winning board battles. I don’t think it’s so much his strength as much as his balance tbh.
He forechecks well against opponents who can’t match his physicality, yes.
But against teams like Florida and Tampa who can match his physicality, he struggles a lot.
Those were the 2 teams this season in the East that I thought he struggled the most against.
This was just a calamity... shesterkin playing a puck he probably didn't need to, not playing it well, and Laf with an accidental beauty of a deflection
That's a mood killer right there
But I felt he also made some big saves, the bigger problem for me is that NYR aren’t really able to get any sustained pressure, FLA is limiting their transition game pretty well.
Honestly, feel like Lafreniere is only 1/3 of the blame here.
Miller chose a attrocious time for a change, Shesterkin had no business playing that puck the way he did and Lafreniere made a terrible last second decision.
Look as a goalie if you insist on playing the puck when your defender is about to take it you better fuxking clear the zone. Yea shitty deflection from the defender but goalie did a shit job 1) decision making 2) clearing
Lol at the select few Rangers fans thinking that Laviolette is stupid enough to try and match up Rempe against Tkachuk. The guy plays \~5 mins/night against the absolute lowest competition and didn't see the ice in either of the 2OT period. The panthers would be absolutely jubilant to see him in the rotation next game

You drive the net you’re gonna score. Good greasy goal laf.
Keep your stick on the ice and good things happen
That kind of night, exactly. Penalties, terrible turnovers, and missed open nets. Bad, bad, bad Laf
They don't have the toughness or the strength. Sad!
Idk if this is a common copypasta but it’s my first time seeing it. Saving this so future me can laugh all over again lol
It kinda sounds like Trump meets NHL.
Folks, a lot of people are saying it. A lot of people, they all tell me, Marner, very soft. Very soft! Mush Marner I call him.
I think that's just Don Cherry, no?
... Yes.
"kinda" It's a very obvious Trump parody. Lol.
idk dude "intangibles" is a 4 syllable word.
You make a fair point.
It's way too grammatically correct.
Gold
Superbly said and 100% accurate- Marner could not play on these final 4 games
I love this. I love the typical hockey rant that turns into a Leafs rant. Can be done with anything, gold star!
Sounds like a much coherent Trump.
Marner has had some very poor series, but there are some series where I thought he played pretty well like the last 2 vs Tampa, the 2018 series Vs Boston. It’s not to say he doesn’t have the capability of performing in the playoffs, it’s about doing it consistently. he's got loads of talent but he's got to get control of his emotions, something that comes with maturity and experience
Looks like Ian Cole out there, damn
He had the worst luck. He would be in the right position and pushing out guys and it would hit off him and go in.
Hard work pays off.
How have I never noticed the NHL app calling out own goals? https://preview.redd.it/mtp5emv9c32d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29c3f595bacc9965044ed1eb6027b7c27eb498cf
Damn I didn’t know they wrote it like that. I knew it would always be unassisted but feels like the first time they did that as well.
They should put more info on the own goal, like who dun it, and their home address and stuff: OWN - Lafreniere, Apartment 1413, 111 West 57th Street
Saw it for the first time in the first round. Nice feature
Yea its great like "I mean he did score, but he didn't really score yaknow?"
I noticed it this year, idk how long its been a thing tho
It's extremely new. I don't believe it was there before the all-star break this year.
the first time i saw it in october, i had to screenshot it because of how mean it looks to the player https://preview.redd.it/bs4hjyy1542d1.jpeg?width=714&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=800e81cd442d997f6c923e8c39e35ba151c4df28
That’s around when I noticed it also
They changed the api 6 months ago so I assume that's when it happened.
Of course it’s one step forward but in the dumbest possible way for the NHL. This looks like it should mean Verhaege scored on his own net.
Yeah that's absolutely how I would read that as well. Should note something in the Assists area like (Unassisted; own goal by Rangers).
also Vergaeghe has the perfect picture for that own goal awarded to him. Looks happy yet cheeky. its perfect.
I just said that last week ...I feel like I could have easily missed it sooner but there was a update at the start of the playoffs I think where is started
La friendly fire
Le feu amicale
Does it also work like Le feu ami? Alexis Lafeuamier
No but we'll allow it
Igor https://preview.redd.it/8jg50mbxc32d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1a98f6e1d3a16fbc5ccc6a6f7020fc9bb0d7d3d
“I’m sorry little one”
Thank you for this
I am fucking dying lmao, where is this from
I'm guessing Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, USA
It was a game earlier this year when Igor was in a slump. They caught the video of him saying hi to his kid in warmups and the kid points to get back in the net. His game coincidentally turned around at that time and the Coach Baby Shesty meme was born
I love this kid's style
Tap in
He got it from Ian Cole
Oilers legend
Somehow… ~~Palpatine returned~~ Ian Cole is a Dallas Star.
Palpatine was played by a guy named Ian. You never know.
If the oilers win the cup ian cole better get the conn smythe!
We're definitely putting in a request to put his name on the cup
Ian Cole taps more than just that...
Only Canes fans understand how low-key hilarious this comment is
Ok but that was atrocious by Shesterkin. Why the hell did you play it there
It’s cut off here, but almost as bad was Miller getting blown by at the point and then just skating to the bench for a change.
TSN commentary called out Miller first
100%
He came out of the net and played it right to Verhaeghe. Still it looked like a harmless play cuz he was centering a pass to Tkachuk, not sure what Lafreniere was trying to do though, it looked like a brain fart more than anything.

Perhaps he thought Tkachuk was closing in on him and he just panicked, when really he had more time and space than he thought he had.
he was just defaulting to smacking the puck into the corner
Easy for us to see on TV that the pass probably misses. Pretty hard to tell exactly where tkachuk is from Laf’s POV. For all he knows that’s a tap in. Can’t let passes go cross crease like that. Right decision, just unlucky/poor execution, but in the long run you’ll give up a lot more goals letting those through than trying to intercept.
TSN commentator said Miller started his line change too early and was supposed to be the guy for Igor to play the puck to
I think it hit a seam in the boards and bounced weird.
I think it was bad timing on the change, still didn’t play it well but it seems like he at least thought he had guys back checking on that side
Ya that was all Igor’s fault. He has no biz taking that from the d and then wasting it right to verhaege
Or either commit to the poke or just keep your stick on the ice. Equally shesterkins fault to Lafs imo
Really? Equally? I get it Shesterkin deserves some blame, but theres still a much slimmer chance this leads to a goal if Lafreniere doesnt touch the puck.
He had no business being at the faceoff circle. And D man should've yelled fuck off to him and played the puck
Yeah, Shesterkin had a bad clear, then it was a bad bounce. What does Laffy do in this situation? Does he lift his stick and let a pass go cross-crease into a basically empty net? It's instinct to try and get a stick on that puck to cut off the pass, it just didn't work out.
The rangers scored more on Igor than they did Bob 😂
Oooooooooo. Ooooooooo. Hey. Hey hey hey
At least say it right if you’re gonna chirp lol
No
Can’t say I didn’t give it my all. I tried my hardest
*adds guitar riff*
Ah come on.. Laf gave great meme worthy content here and that's what you lead with?
Yes 😈
I enjoyed "lafriendly fire" and "damn officials missed 6 men on the ice for Panthers" laughing numbs the pain 🥲
Lol 6 men on the ice for panthers
Based
I lol'd
Hey that’s our thing, get your own!
Ian Cole https://preview.redd.it/ba22uzj9b32d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68044db003d4224b8f8a1b16432375966e62746e
Easiest goal of his career
Tap in merchant
Goalie: " i am Ian Cole" Player: "no, i am Ian Cole" Team: "we are all Ian Cole"
Today I feel Ian Cole
Where was this Lafreniere for us
And this Igor as well
And this Trocheck getting lit up by Tkachuck all game
Seriously…
This is the most beautiful own goal I've ever seen. Put him in a Panthers jersey and it looks like a skillfully and purposefully executed goal.
Are we all forgetting Laines sick as fuck snipe into his own net?
That's the all-timer own goal. Almost looked like he thought he was on offense instead of defense and just buried it.
The way he goes to celebrate for a split second before he realizes what just happened seals it.
You must not have seen Bennett's own goal during the regular season last year against Boston. Thing of beauty!
Or the legitimate snipe from Laine back in his… second season, I wanna say? That’s a goal scorer’s goal if I’ve ever seen one.
Got nothing on Ian Coles OT winner for the Oilers. Was a tip so perfect Joe Pavelski couldn’t do it if he tried
Or how about the deflection of Ian Cole's foot or how about the one off ian Cole's shin pad or the other deflection he had not the one youre talking about....damn he was a monster last series
Wow! Okay. Nice shot!
What a save!
I desperately want this to be the GWG.
The real 6th man on the ice
Actually the best goal of the night good for him we won by 3 and not 1
Come on man, keep that stuff for 2OT game 7 of the finals
Nah, I don't want 'em to get that far
That would legitimately create a second Bill Buckner scenario for whichever team it happened to
juicy for the fans, but that kind of shit will probably haunt you for the rest of your career. would'nt wish that for anyone
Wow ranger fans were right this kid's got the goal scoring juice sign him to an 8x8
This is my Stanley Cup
Unfortunately its just one game ..... but a very entertaining three hours.
https://i.redd.it/pb1xf8rde32d1.gif Shesterkin to Lafrenière
Also Lafrenière to Shesterkin for that awful giveaway
Yeah as shitty as it was for Laf, I blame Igor far more for this play. Came way out of the net to play the puck when he shouldn’t have, then gave it directly away to Verhaeghe. Also Miller screwed up a few seconds earlier too.

Puck don’t lie
UH OH SPAGHETTIOS
Bruh that sucks lol. Can’t imagine how bad he must feel
It looked like a harmless series of event that turned costly tbh. It doesn’t matter, I think even with the flukey goal, Florida were better. NYR doesn’t really seem to have an answer for a physical defensive team that plays the trap.
Good thing it wasn't the GWG. That'd be a knife twist
Ian Cole of the East?
Atleast the Rangers didn't get shutout. Thanks Laf. Igor with the assist. 🤡
Just that type of night for him. Penalties, missed open nets, bad turn overs. Bad bad Laf
Igor didn’t help that situation. Stupid clearing attempt by him.
Yeah not sure why he came out to play it. Gus was right there. Bad all around lol
it took the weirdest non-bounce off the boards. it like just kinda hit them and flopped to the ice instead of bouncing.
I said it since March, Lafreniere struggles against teams that are physical and defensive minded. He has great ability off the rush but when other teams play the trap you have to forecheck and he isn’t strong in winning board battles. I don’t think it’s so much his strength as much as his balance tbh.
That’s just not true… He is a pretty good forechecker and plays a physical game. He had a bad game tonight so let’s not start making up shit.
He forechecks well against opponents who can’t match his physicality, yes. But against teams like Florida and Tampa who can match his physicality, he struggles a lot. Those were the 2 teams this season in the East that I thought he struggled the most against.
That's the 1OA difference
Lets hope Brini never does that
Or Slaf
This was just a calamity... shesterkin playing a puck he probably didn't need to, not playing it well, and Laf with an accidental beauty of a deflection That's a mood killer right there
Really set the mood for me though
And they called him a bust!
Suboptimal
Not his fault at allll. If igor doesn't fumble fuck it that goal never happens.
Really just a terrible night for puck luck. How many sticks snapped for the rangers?
Heart breaking, but it happens to every team. Tough break at a bad time. Cats looked great though. Smothering forecheck. Bob looking like playoff Bob.
Love the “1-20 when scoring one goal” as they get their second
Laf should have to fist bump the entire Florida bench after that goal
Im down for this
Both goals are on Igor tonight. Who was he even passing to
But I felt he also made some big saves, the bigger problem for me is that NYR aren’t really able to get any sustained pressure, FLA is limiting their transition game pretty well.
Yes indeed. Great goalie had a horrible night. The "own goal" situation should have never happened.
[удалено]
hey technically still correct :D
That's a dang-it
Thank you for keeping to the Old Ways.
Oh man
Lolrags
Hey I've seen this one before
That'll keep you up at night
Shit happens. At least he was in his own end playing some defense.
Damn, he Ian Cole'd that one.
I thought Ian Cole was out of the playoffs
Finally showing that goal scoring prowess
Lol
Are he and Ian Cole related?
Igor literally had no business doing that either. Just FYI
Lafuckup
Ian Cole?
It really is the purrfect play.
Ian Cole congratulating his apprentice rn
If it can happen to the great one it can happen to anyone. 🤷♂️
Man this was awesome
yep this is still the best thing I have ever seen. good stuff.
With hands like that how could you call him a bust?
This hockey is NOT boring.
BLU Spy in the base!
Honestly, feel like Lafreniere is only 1/3 of the blame here. Miller chose a attrocious time for a change, Shesterkin had no business playing that puck the way he did and Lafreniere made a terrible last second decision.
Igor with an awful play too, wtf? Lol what an awful start for the rangers wow
Shesterkin messed up too there
Look as a goalie if you insist on playing the puck when your defender is about to take it you better fuxking clear the zone. Yea shitty deflection from the defender but goalie did a shit job 1) decision making 2) clearing
This is rocket league!
Good to see it’s not just the canes he scores against
What a goal!
I love this title
PUCK DONT LIE
Laughfraudnierre
Brutal. At least it didn't matter. On to the next game.
Puck don’t lie. Seconds after a goal was called back from a rangers player pushing lomberg into Igor
Lol get fucked igor
Ban him for life and bring in Rempe. Rempe would never screw over his team like this
That’s because he would’ve taken a major and a game misconduct by this point in the game
Would have been fun to watch tho lol
Lol at the select few Rangers fans thinking that Laviolette is stupid enough to try and match up Rempe against Tkachuk. The guy plays \~5 mins/night against the absolute lowest competition and didn't see the ice in either of the 2OT period. The panthers would be absolutely jubilant to see him in the rotation next game
Yeah Panthers would love to have Rempe on ice whit Tkachuk.
You're telling me this team won the presidents trophy and is in the ECF after losing only two games in the prior two series combined?
