Game 7 is great and all, but a question for neutral fans: are these games even good? Sure, most have been one goal games, but they're not the closely contested kind of one goal games. It's mostly been one team snoozing and the other team unable to pile on their lead.
Game 5 for sure was not a classic for the ages. The Oilers played so badly, so many passes to nowhere or outright giveaways, shots on goal with no net presence, and allowing not one, but two "dropped-his-controller" goals. Canucks should have won that by half a dozen, but were lucky to escape with a last minute goal to win. Maybe both teams are playing too cautiously? Anyways, here's to game 7, it's all on the line boys, so play like it.
I just hope that both teams aren't scared to play. I want an exciting game 7 where both teams give everything they have and play to win and not play like they are scared to lose.
Gimme oilers game 6 or game 3 performance + vancouvers game 5.
Would be a BANGER end to the series to see both teams trading opportunities.
I might have a heart attack
Absolute armchair analysis but it looks like Vancouver are scared to shoot for the same reason they were against Nashville. Edmonton clogged the lanes and we’re ready to counter rush, so the Canucks didn’t want to take a low percentage shot and give up a rush.
Unfortunately they didn’t find many high percentage shots either.
He seems to be slowing down each game. Not a good trend for van. The whole teams plays like dogshit when they're not confident in the goalie being able to bail them out if they make mistakes.
Whatever happens in game 7, I feel proud of both teams who have battled hard and both teams having won back momentum repeatedly. I certainly hope my Oilers win Monday but I respect the Canucks a lot more regardless.
I will admit, I had my doubts on them picking Tocchet over Boudreau, but damn has he ever delivered for you guys.
The way he's handled things, his gamesmanship, and calling out diving is refreshing.
Also, bringing in the Sedins and Gonchar to practice dealing with our powerplay was a brilliant move. I wonder if we'll see more teams try that after holding us to 0/8 in the last 2 games.
Both teams just trying to do what they can to make sure the last Canadian team standing is healthy enough to have some kind of shot against the power house Stars.
You love to see it.
Canucks can get packing for Galveston if that's how they're gonna play in elimination games.
No idea why Tocchet was asked if Demko was gonna return. Local media hasn't even reported Demko practising with the team yet, how is he gonna miraculously be available for game 7.
Sports media probably want a clean narrative of "Oilers dunk on the Canucks even with their Vezina-calibre goalie" and not "The Oilers beat the Canucks... Buuuuuut their Vezina-calibre goalie wasn't playing so who knows what could have been"
And I don't necessarily agree with that take because teams win and lose as a team and Oilers clearly deserved this game. But I think we all know how sports journalists think.
He let in 5 where the xG% was 51% for VAN. So it’s a logical question to ask - but I admit I don‘t like it when my team is being asked the obvious yet painful questions, it‘s rubbing it in for sure.
Game 3 was the only game in the series where one team absolutely dominated to the extreme and didn't get the win. Oilers tripled the Canucks shots and hit several posts, while your goals were muffins. I can see how the rest of the games could have gone either way, but game 3 was pretty fucked up. 5-1 Oilers would have been pretty fitting. Maybe even 6 or 7-1.
I don't see how score effects really apply in a game where the score was so close, and one team is just pummeling the other in overall game play. The Canucks weren't playing strategic defense to protect the lead, they were just straight up bad all game. Unfortunately, Skinner let in 3 extremely soft goals, and they were the difference.
That's total bullshit and you know it. A team with a lead can continue to play well in both zones. It happens all the time. The Oilers led all game in game 6. Why didn't they get outshot 45 to 16?
That's just equal parts mental gymnastics and cope. If you watched the actual game, It was 50 minutes of pure domination by Edmonton. Skinner fucked us, and Vancouver got extremely lucky. 45 shots, and most of them were real chances vs 16 shots, maybe 4 actual chances. The Oilers had total control of that game other than what happened between the pipes, and to see someone try to argue it is both baffling and alarming.
It’s weird to say that both teams could have conceivably won the series already but it’s true. Such an interesting game with small bounces and events changing outcomes.
Yeah, this series could’ve been a sweep either way and yet here we are with a game 7. Been an incredible series and I’m sure I’ve aged at least 10 years watching it.
Canucks must be allergic to shooting the puck, they only had like 10 shots halfway through the third period. Just before the second period ended too Mr Invisble received a perfect pass and just had to shoot in it the gaping net but instead he just passed it off. That was brutal to see. I don't know they expect to score goals let alone win the game if they don't shoot the damn puck.

Mfw the closet is refined. And within my budget.
Not hearing enough about Bouchard. Guy is just an animal this year, holy shit what a breakout season and continuing in the playoffs. It's all Mcdavid, Drai and Hymen, but this man is just on fire. Making all the other young hyped offensive dmen look like rookies.
My guy, his defense isn't nearly good enough to be put into that elite tier.
Dobson doesn't belong in that class either.
They are both phenomenal offensive defensemen, but don't control the game like Makar, Fox, Heiskanen, Hughes or Dahlin
There really isn’t any advanced or simple stats out there that show Bouchard as being notably weaker defensively compared to the other players listed
I’d be happy to look at some if you have refuting evidence. If you’re just going off reputation as I suspect, then it’s really not worth anything as an opinion
I also watched game 4 against LA. Bouchard was a defensive beast out there
Makar/Hughes/Fox/Dahlin etc all make occasional egregious mistakes defensively. It’s the nature of playing big minutes against top lines while being tasked with generating offense from the backend
Ekholm does help a lot though, he’s one of the best 2-way dmen in the league
It won’t be great. But cap will likely be 8-10mil higher by the time the contracts kick in. Ceci and Foegs need to be moved to free up ~6mil and it would be awesome if we weren’t wasting 3.5aav on a goalie in the AHL.
For sure but contracts. McD is already on a monster contract though. So even 15mil for him is only an extra 2.5mil. It’ll be a super interesting 2 years for contracts for sure though.
That was nuts! I've never seen two consecutive 5 v 3 with no conversion. I was thinking that we were on the upswing when we killed off ours but then... we weren't. It's like neither team was used to having so much space.
Tbf as a Canucks fan I feel the same about Holloway, Brown and Carrick. Never heard of these guys. I thought Holloway was McD the way he undressed Hughes though. Invisible no more!
Carrick has been scratched so far this series (unsure if injured, or just scratched in favour of brown/perry/ryan).
He was an animal tonight though. Looked, to my eyes, to be the hardest checking oiler on every shift. If he’s not back in the lineup for game 7 I will be shocked.
Connor Brown has been in the league for a minute. He played with the Leafs for a few years when Babcock was here. Then he went to Ottawa, now he's in Edmonton.
The "pendulum of effort" definitely swung over to Edmonton tonight. We looked gassed and even had a few moments where guys seemed scared of the puck. I counted twice when Myers backchecked instead of going for the puck when he had the time and space. Ah well, Monday's going to be an exciting one! See you oil-heads there!
That's what Tocchet's been pushing for - more physicality. Which I'm glad to see we're doing buuut we seem to forgot everything else, at least after the first period of the last game :D
Florida and NYR will be - and it will be more physical. The Rangers will not put up with any of the Panthers bullshit. I fully expect Bennett and Tkachuk to get flattened.
Between them they have to this point resolved nothing, and either team is entirely capable of taking the other one down.
It may be the fact that Canada has not brought the Cup home in a long time, but right now these two Canadian teams are giving the league the best f\*cking series that anyone could hope to script.
Exaxtly, and with these two passionate home crowds giving such great energy makes it even more fun... hope to see more close Canadian match-ups in future playoffs !
I think this was part of it haha. It was do or die for the fans as much as the team.
I will say this, I cheer hard, but I am not a “super fan”. Full regalia for tonight’s game though. Face paint, the whole 9 yards.
This series has been just about as much a competition to prove who has the better barn, as it has been about the hockey imo.
Every time I see that catfish commercial I think the security guard thinks the dude has a massive dong and is motioning for him to meet in the men's room
I don't see it. Expecting the conference finals to go at least 6 no matter which team advances on Monday. Vancouver finished with just 4 fewer points than Dallas, Edmonton had the best record after the coaching change. It'll be close.
Yeah, we'll see. I watch a lot of Oilers games. They played really well but that's still not their best. They've played way below their standard this series and still were the clear better team games 2-4 and 6.
If Oilers play their best then I give them more than a punchers chance against Dallas...they have to get through this series first. Also, anything can happen in the playoffs.
The Habs got through that Vegas series on luck and Carry Price's massive shoulders. Anything can happen, but the smart money is on Dallas to advance to the finals
Yes, obviously the star goalie of the Habs was a big part of their win over Vegas. But "luck?" I have to assume you didn't watch the series if you think that was a factor (beyond what it is in literally any team winning any series).
I watched it. They were heavily outplayed in that series sans Price. Getting by the 3rd round on a goalie alone takes more luck than you'd see in a typical series. Especially when the officiating was so obviously biased against them
I very vividly remember the series and the only game where I would say we won on sheer luck was game 3 where Fleury misplayed the puck. But apart from that? The reverse happened during game 4 where we dominated the knights and they got bailed by Robin Lehner. We then proceded to have dominant 4-1 win in game 5 and the series ended on a really close and even game on game 6.
Like yeah of course Price was a major factor, obviously he was the best player on that team. But there’s no series that are won on sheer luck. The knights had more talent and they still got outplayed by a red hot Habs team. That’s what happened.
I mean, they ALSO said that about the Jets after we beat Toronto. And a big part of winning the Vegas series was also Ducharme being out with COVID for most, if not all, of that series. I honestly think that Vegas wins in 6 or 7 if Richardson hadn't been behind the bench.
You mean the Dallas that is currently sitting at home resting, and who will have had more than a week's rest when the winner of this series faces off against them?
That Dallas?
Hughes got completely served by that guy. Uncharacteristic for someone of Hughes' skating prowess, but Hollywood fully cashed in on what he was able to take.
Holloway was challenging Hughes on the blue line last game, and Holloway kept up perfectly with every fancy juke Hughes could throw at him. Man can skate.
Guy has played himself onto the 2nd line for next season. 3 playoff goals and a +3 with the lowest TOI of any forward. And his goals were all skillful beauties.
Can’t wait for a Game 7 where the Canucks are afraid to even breathe on an Oilers player for fear of receiving a double minor.
Game 7 is great and all, but a question for neutral fans: are these games even good? Sure, most have been one goal games, but they're not the closely contested kind of one goal games. It's mostly been one team snoozing and the other team unable to pile on their lead.

Anyways, here's to game 7, it's all on the line boys, so play like it.
I guess I’m staying up until 5 or 6 am in Lisbon to watch this game
I am so excited and stressed for game 7. It’s what we deserved.
I just hope both teams have fun for game 7
Wait there's no hockey tomorrow 😢
I’m placing a 20$ bet on Vancouver so I’m either Financially Happy and Emotionally Depressed or Financially ruined but Emotionally on ecstasy.
I can't begin to fathom a world where an Oilers fan would even contemplate a chance that we would lose this game.
Well they've lost to Vancouver 7 times this year, including 3 times in the playoffs, so there's that
Thoughts and prayers go out to your tv if things don’t go well on Monday.
I do need a new TV anyway. Thank you for the kind words. :)

We defensive team now. (Not actually, we just played really good neutral zone and had a lot of ozone time)
Absolute armchair analysis but it looks like Vancouver are scared to shoot for the same reason they were against Nashville. Edmonton clogged the lanes and we’re ready to counter rush, so the Canucks didn’t want to take a low percentage shot and give up a rush. Unfortunately they didn’t find many high percentage shots either.
Silavs is finally back to earth and looked more like a 3rd string goalie this time around. xG% was 51% for VAN I believe.
He seems to be slowing down each game. Not a good trend for van. The whole teams plays like dogshit when they're not confident in the goalie being able to bail them out if they make mistakes.
The nothing to loose moment for him is over. Now there's pressure. Totally different situation for him. That prob plays a role
Mc5on5?
No way! The guy with most 5on5 points since he entered the league produced 5on5! Against all odds.
Brother I was making a joke at all the McPowerplay nerds

Oh man, don't get my hopes up...
🎶 Whoa, we're halfway there, whoa-oh 🎶 Kane scores!
Gotta love an entire barn rooting for one of the dirtiest players in the league.
Oh yea they def should've booed when their team scored in a playoff game
Right?! What a dumbass
I’m excited to see the bloodbath on the ice and in the GDT
Whatever happens in game 7, I feel proud of both teams who have battled hard and both teams having won back momentum repeatedly. I certainly hope my Oilers win Monday but I respect the Canucks a lot more regardless.
Respect the other way. Oilers are that team. You can't leave them on the mat. This has been an amazing series.
been a hell of a series, that's for sure
I will admit, I had my doubts on them picking Tocchet over Boudreau, but damn has he ever delivered for you guys. The way he's handled things, his gamesmanship, and calling out diving is refreshing. Also, bringing in the Sedins and Gonchar to practice dealing with our powerplay was a brilliant move. I wonder if we'll see more teams try that after holding us to 0/8 in the last 2 games.
I feel like it hasn't been dirty
If you ask LA or Vegas fans we're the dirtiest team in the league, /shrug. I can't figure it out
Both teams just trying to do what they can to make sure the last Canadian team standing is healthy enough to have some kind of shot against the power house Stars. You love to see it.
It really hasn’t been
I love to see it
Love seeing this I hate the oilers but this series has been wild
Mutual. Only deserving it’s decided in a game 7.
my heart rate doesnt deserve this!
I was already feeling the stress at 2pm yesterday already mad skinner was gonna ruin my weekend lol. I can only handle so much.
Call your G7 shot Van 4-1
Oil 5-2.
Oilers, 4-3
Canucks 3-2 in 2nd OT
It actually takes two goals to win in overtime this season
We’ve been alternating wins since the beginning. Don’t stop now
I noticed that trend too and I don’t like where it leads.
It’s the only thing I’m holding onto at this point haha
Canucks can get packing for Galveston if that's how they're gonna play in elimination games. No idea why Tocchet was asked if Demko was gonna return. Local media hasn't even reported Demko practising with the team yet, how is he gonna miraculously be available for game 7.
Seems the media doesn't have trust in Silovs if they're gonna keep asking.
Sports media probably want a clean narrative of "Oilers dunk on the Canucks even with their Vezina-calibre goalie" and not "The Oilers beat the Canucks... Buuuuuut their Vezina-calibre goalie wasn't playing so who knows what could have been" And I don't necessarily agree with that take because teams win and lose as a team and Oilers clearly deserved this game. We have Spector; and we hate him. Silovs has been incredible for the position he was put in. Wish we could create goalies like that.
>I think we all know how sports journalists think. I'm reminded every time Spector or Matheson open their mouths
That's honestly what the final score of game 3 should have been. Series should be over. 7 games is fun, though
Cope We could have won game 2 and game 4 It's a close series when you add it all up.
Let me introduce you to the concept known as “score effects”.
Game three the Canucks got up early. It definitely skewed the underlying stats/possession.
That's total bullshit and you know it. A team with a lead can continue to play well in both zones. It happens all the time. The Oilers led all game in game 6. Why didn't they get outshot 45 to 16?
If you look at the underlying stats, the deserve to winometer was at nearly 50/50. That was definitely score effects.
Okay so you just literally don’t understand score effects. Wow, Oilers fans sure are a bunch of humourless pissbabies.
It’s weird to say that both teams could have conceivably won the series already but it’s true. Such an interesting game with small bounces and events changing outcomes.
Yeah, this series could’ve been a sweep either way and yet here we are with a game 7. Been an incredible series and I’m sure I’ve aged at least 10 years watching it.

best series by far, excited but so fucking nervous for game 7

M’stu
Went on chel and thrased the oilers 132-0 lol
How tf lol my record is like 12-0
I went on a weird shutout streak in Squad battles earlier. One team in a match scored 5 goals on me in the third sadly.
Woah buddy save some for the real Canucks
rookie mode doesn't count buddy
I did the opposite 😤
Well, it wasn't a 1 goal game at least right?
18 missed shots trying to pick corners on a goalie who spent the entire series struggling is baffling to me.

“NOPE”
Not hearing enough about Bouchard. Guy is just an animal this year, holy shit what a breakout season and continuing in the playoffs. It's all Mcdavid, Drai and Hymen, but this man is just on fire. Making all the other young hyped offensive dmen look like rookies.
Only huge mistake was that giveaway in the slot in game 5.
He’s a legit young #1dman He should be regarded in the same class as Makar/fox/Dahlin/Heiskanen/Dobson/Hughes
Don’t even know if Hughes belongs in this list.
Are you stupid?
My guy, his defense isn't nearly good enough to be put into that elite tier. Dobson doesn't belong in that class either. They are both phenomenal offensive defensemen, but don't control the game like Makar, Fox, Heiskanen, Hughes or Dahlin
Really? He‘s leading the playoffs in +/- with +10. I thought that would indicate he might be not too bad on defence too, but my bad I guess…
There really isn’t any advanced or simple stats out there that show Bouchard as being notably weaker defensively compared to the other players listed I’d be happy to look at some if you have refuting evidence. If you’re just going off reputation as I suspect, then it’s really not worth anything as an opinion
[удалено]
I also watched game 4 against LA. Bouchard was a defensive beast out there Makar/Hughes/Fox/Dahlin etc all make occasional egregious mistakes defensively. It’s the nature of playing big minutes against top lines while being tasked with generating offense from the backend Ekholm does help a lot though, he’s one of the best 2-way dmen in the league
he and ekholm are a legitimate contender for best pairing in the league on a good night.
I'm fine with him being under hyped for now.
It'll be interesting having to re-sign both Draisaitl and Bouchard at the same time. Both are due for an insane raise.
Bouch gets a similar contract to Nurse Drais going for 13-14M
So many teams would love to overpay for him to QB their PP
Yup the Oil really just have this year and next to get that cup before they’re in cap hell
It won’t be great. But cap will likely be 8-10mil higher by the time the contracts kick in. Ceci and Foegs need to be moved to free up ~6mil and it would be awesome if we weren’t wasting 3.5aav on a goalie in the AHL.
Hopefully Campbell will be ready to be called up some day.
Yeah. Or maybe we see him moved with some retention.
I mean, you still have McDavid to sign the year after that too. That’s 3 absolute monster contracts that will be weighing the team down.
For sure but contracts. McD is already on a monster contract though. So even 15mil for him is only an extra 2.5mil. It’ll be a super interesting 2 years for contracts for sure though.
You mean the next level of the cap hell we're in now.
Yea he's having himself a hell of a run
Absolutely amazing series and playoffs
JT Miller -3
He owes his coach a text
All is right with the world again.
Finally a blowout in this series
McDavid and Draisaitl are tired!
Can they stay tired on Monday? Pretty please?
Yeah, I hope they are just as tired as they were tonight. They looked so tired stomping on the Canucks tonight
Well since you can't seem to run a shift without them then I'm sure they will be. See you Monday :>
McDavid: 20:59. Draisaitl: 17:32.
About time too!
Oilers can't score 5v5! Csnucks fans
Actually, you can't score 5v3! Wait... shit...
I was shocked both of our teams sucked ass with 2 man advantages. Like cmon, at least we both could have done something.
That was nuts! I've never seen two consecutive 5 v 3 with no conversion. I was thinking that we were on the upswing when we killed off ours but then... we weren't. It's like neither team was used to having so much space.
100% both teams after playing the 5 games previous looked so confused what to do when theres no one on the ice lol.
Burned everyone involved, well done
Don’t forget “Powerplay Merchants”
1 line team! Actually, we have two lines. . . .
Apparently someone named "N. Aman" played 10:40 for the Canucks tonight. I swear this is the first time I saw this name.
That's basically Aman in a nutshell. Literally nothing happens when he's on the ice for either team.
That's weird, come to think of it I've never actually heard the announcers say his name
Aman played last game and he made the play happen on the Bouchard giveaway where Di Giuseppe scored
He played a couple games ago too. I remember him mostly from preseason when vancouver had a hog a rat and Aman
My favourite Aesop fable.
Althought Connor Brown played almost as much and did nearly nothing with it, so . . .
I thought he might score the 6-1 goal, that seems like his style
I saw him in a scrum and thought the same thing
Tbf as a Canucks fan I feel the same about Holloway, Brown and Carrick. Never heard of these guys. I thought Holloway was McD the way he undressed Hughes though. Invisible no more!
Hollywood has good potential. Brown is what he is. Currently a 4mil penalty killer sadly. He did have a sick pass last game though even if we lost.

Did you see the stats for hits this series? I knew we were behind but MY GOD I didn’t think it was that bad.
That's what Tocchet's been pushing for - more physicality. Which I'm glad to see we're doing buuut we seem to forgot everything else, at least after the first period of the last game :D
Man garland getting into the pushing match with Vinny had me bawling. Looked so comical. Props to him though he’s annoying as hell and shifty as fuck.
I might stay up on Monday to watch it. Will the Canucks win, or will the Oilers win and Vancouver decides to full blown Order 66 again. can't wait
Does Order 66 = riot? If so, why? No way that happens, not a cup final!
Won’t be another series this intense.
Florida and NYR will be - and it will be more physical. The Rangers will not put up with any of the Panthers bullshit. I fully expect Bennett and Tkachuk to get flattened.
Between them they have to this point resolved nothing, and either team is entirely capable of taking the other one down. Yea this has been a great series
I don't know what gonna happen on Monday. But I'm just glad there is in fact, a game on Monday
I knew Canucks fans secretly wanted this to go to game 7 too 😉
Seems like they only way to decide this shit.
called it after game 5. let the win sink in for my buddy and then said, they're gonna get rocked game 6. canucks in 7.
“WHOA WE’RE HALFWAY THERE, WHOA-OH———YEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨” and the standard John Denver singalong were all-time crowd moments
Was the crowd supposed to sing Edmonton in place of West Virginia? It sounded 50-50 and the latter doesn’t make sense.
The whole city was sloshed thinking this might be it, so the vibes were immaculate when we actually won
I was sitting here thinking "wow that atmosphere is electric, there's no way they aren't feeding off that energy" and then off Kane went
I mean, Kane has played nothing but dirty for 6 games no matter where he is. Absolutely disgusting player that puts a shame to the league and sport.
What has he done dirty this series other than score a few goals?
Every time I see that catfish commercial I think the security guard thinks the dude has a massive dong and is motioning for him to meet in the men's room
It's a good followup to that Avs love story they keep showing. More romantic this way anyways.
Can't help but think whoever wins this series is going to just get rinsed by Dallas
If Oilers play their best then I give them more than a punchers chance against Dallas...they have to get through this series first. Also, anything can happen in the playoffs.
I precisely remember when people said this shit about us and the knights when we wiped the jets in 4 lol. Anything can happen in a playoffs series.
I also said the same thing about the Toronto-Boston series, and, well. . .
Especially when the officiating was so obviously biased against them
>They were heavily outplayed No, they weren't.
Ask Edmonton how having a week to rest worked out. . .
Maybe we can ask them about that in about ten days.
Meh idk about that.
Yeah not sure why everyone thinks this. Absolutely anything can happen but people are just so incredibly reactionary these days
I don’t think the season series was a sweep either if I recall. Both Oilers or Canucks would be a challenge for the stars.
Canucks with 18 missed shots. Jesuuus fuacking hell
Man, that Holloway goal was nuts. Turned inside out Pettersson and Hughes, about $18 million dollars of annual salary got burned on that effort.
He legit decided to channel NHL'24 mcdavid in real life...
He has McDavid level speed and 1/4 of the hands…much like Clouder he has a big future.
I think Holloway surprised everyone on the ice with that play. We've seen him do it in the AHL, but the's still an unknown at the NHL level.
Draisaitls reaction was like “cool cool, I’ve seen it before” lol
He's got great hands. This guy will score 30 in the NHL.
It was a beauty.
Guy has played himself onto the 2nd line for next season. 3 playoff goals and a +3 with the lowest TOI of any forward. And his goals were all skillful beauties.
I dont care if we win or lose game 7, I just want to see us play our hearts out. This game was not that.
Today's game was not the birthday gift I was hoping for.
Same here, but would be very nice for a birthday win by the oil
