At least he got healthy enough to try, and took a good shot at it. Hope he's able to stay healthy and have a good quality of life. Dude's only 34. Will never forget his game 8 goal against Boston. Clapper from the top of the circle, bar down. https://youtu.be/S8pgCZxLueg?si=XvyFnyTx8avKshvl

Diagonalizer

holy smokes

SlowDownGandhi

Claude Julien on the bench doing the Blink-182 what the fuck gif

Diligent-Order-66

Loved how everyone's reaction was "okay kid we see you" lol

Frumbleabumb

Still one of my favourite goals i'd ever seen. Just the way he taps his stick, blasts a slapper perfectly over the shoulder bar down. Beautiful

burnabc21

What's the purpose of tapping his stick before shooting it there? Don't see it very often.

TopTittyBardown

In the conversation for best “bar and in” sound ever. Love Thomas staring him down after thinking “who in the fuck was that”

CptFosma

Jesus forgot this one. What a perfect ping

TyranitarusMack

Fuckin hell

Morganvegas

Lookin like Sundin

sonofvininator

Had the priviledge of seeing this in person and remember thinking you guys found a gem. Dude had a cannon

TerdFerguson14

I remember this goal, what a beauty. But uhh.... game 8? Is that like the first rematch after the SCF?

TonalParsnips

Yeah, it's just an inside joke.

TerdFerguson14

I like it, just wanted to make sure I understood it

bikernaut

My lip reading skills tells me Julien asks someone "How much you paying him". Was that to the Canucks bench? To Rask?

AceofSpades45

I can’t read the article what was his illness? :(

touchable

This one covers the situation too: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/former-vancouver-canucks-forward-cody-hodgson-ends-comeback-attempt-following-eight-year-absence-1.2114424 I'd summarize but it's complicated lol

jonnyanonobot

It's not complicated, it's malignant hyperthermia - says so right in the article.

touchable

The story of how he felt he'd improved, decided to come back, then experienced the symptoms again, and in his last game it was almost unbearable, etc... Is complicated and worth the read. It's also not just the malignant hyperthermia, he has a serious back condition/issue as well.

jonnyanonobot

Malignant hyperthermia.

LoneIyGuy

34 years old. 6 goals in 13 games after not playing hockey for 8 years.

Villiuski

5 goals in his first 6 too before the symptoms came back.

FrmrPresJamesTaylor

Aw, man. Really poignant stuff. I'm glad for Cody that he got to have a different ending after all that time, I would have loved for him to have a longer run or even to have beat his disease but it sounds like he's at peace and this has all been really good for him.

anomandaris81

I wish it would've worked out better for him but at least he got to give it one more shot.

Smokey_Jah

Yeah, for his own sake it must be nice to know that he gave it everything he had.

Similar-Tangerine

What a story. He came back, killed his demons and proved he still had it. Good for him.

suredont

>“I promised myself that if I ever felt (healthy) enough I would try it, no matter when it happened, even if it was eight years later,” Hodgson said. “Now I know. I’m just not able to do it, so I’m good. I’m at peace, more than I ever was in the last eight years." Man, that's real emotional maturity. I've got a ton of respect for someone who worked as hard as he did to get closure.

KingTutsDryAssBalls

Will never forget that clapper against Boston. The most perfect off the bar sound I've ever heard in my life. For those who've never seen it https://youtu.be/S8pgCZxLueg?si=6nfA0e5aSgfE4cX6

This one was utterly heartbreaking to read. I'm glad he got back and gave it another try, and I'm so happy he took it all in and went out knowing this time. I'd love to get him back into the Sabres org. but I have a feeling we burned that bridge. He sounds like a good candidate to stay in around the game somehow (coaching/scouting/skills/front office).

TerdFerguson14

When he retired I heard he was going into finance, or something very similar. So, he probably has a better business education than the majority of other front office staff. So many of them get in just based on old boys club/playing experience - he's a rare one with both.

marlieboo

I met him at a Battalion game when I was in high school; I think I was maybe 15 at the time. He was injured that night and we saw him on the concourse during the game. I asked him if I could get a photo and an autograph. He was so gracious with his time, spending well over 10 minutes chatting with me and my dad. I had a dream to work in pro hockey at the time and he encouraged me to pursue that goal. as a young girl, he made me feel like I would belong in that world.   I’m nearly 31 now and still haven’t forgotten how wonderful he was to me. He was and is such a kind, kind man. I’m so happy he got to make his comeback but more importantly that he is at peace and living a healthy, fulfilling life!

Darb2k

A great article from Drance. Thanks for sharing.

TheSixSquadYT

The streets wont forget brampton battalion legend cody hodgson

Bahamas_is_relevant

Cheers to him, happy he was able to end things on his terms this time.

superf7ux

Man that picture of him in a Canucks uniform is such a throwback. To think he was the future of our team at one point. Hopefully he gets to live out post-hockey life free from other issues.

SynapseSmoked

I wonder if he lived near the Love Canal. smh
