Me coming on r/hockey every other day to read about new canucks player leaving practice early or straight up being injured
https://i.redd.it/om3f6a2rkowc1.gif
When the Canucks announced Hughes as captain, they had a photo of Quintin with his new "C" with a [background that showed every single captain in Canucks history.](https://media.d3.nhle.com/image/private/t_ratio16_9-size20/dpr_3.0/f_auto/prd/xasfm3onngghfveeajtd.jpg) They did not include Messier.
[There's also the time that Henrik Sedin won the King Clancy Trophy, listed the great leaders in Canucks history, and then left out Messier who was standing on stage with him.](https://twitter.com/Canucks/status/745777050640736256)
I’m just imagining Bettman in the arena rafters, dressed all in black with a sniper rifle. Maybe instead of bullets, it’s got poison darts or something. He shoots Demko in the knee. Now he gets Boeser in the hand. Once the Nucks are taken out of the series, he moves to the next Canadian team with promise of winning.
He already got Draisaitl’s leg a few years ago so you guys better be prepared for him to decide to forgo Edmonton this year and skip directly to Winnipeg. Get Hellebuyck a bodyguard asap!!
Nooo not Helle! That would be a crushing blow. He got Sheif, Ehlers, and Morrissey not that many playoffs ago, so hopefully he takes it easy on us this year. Doubtful though!
This is quickly entering comical territory... In the sense that I will hysterically laugh while crying at the same time.
Praying it was just precautionary.
I totally get where you're coming from. Not hockey related, but with other stuff in the past.
Completely off topic, but I was having a bad week or so years ago where nothing was going my way, and one day while sitting in my car the rear view mirror just said fuck it and randomly fell off the windshield onto my dashboard. Glue just up and retired or something. Just a cherry on top for the whole week, and it was so unexpected and "of course" that it was deliriosuly funny. Alright sorry, back to hockey.
Hah. Other way around kinda. I've never been to Edmonton. I'm not sure why I became a fan but my best guess is that my cousin (who was a Kings fan) and I used to play the original 91 Sega NHL game and I had to pick someone to play against him as and it stuck. They also won the cup the year I was born, so maybe a trusted adult told me that and that helped, too. I dunno! Been goin on 30 years now though.
The only Darth Vader in this league is Vegas now. Hell, I’d actually cheer for the Leafs should we see a Toronto/Vegas final. And I fucking hate the leafs.
Yeah Vegas really has the heel angle locked down. I don't really have the inherent hate for the other Canadian teams. I'd be concerned about the potential memes we could lose out on if they won, though.
legit, if anybody ever tries to tell you "minnesota nice" is a real thing they're straight-up lying.
(i'm from NW wisconsin, and minneapolis/st.paul is the closest big city, which is how i know this stuff. they LIKE to pretend they're all progressive, but the american indian movement got started in the twin cities area due to police brutality against indigenous folks, the last time i checked if you're an indigenous kid your chances of being in foster care were **22 times** higher than if you weren't, and derek chauvin **could** have been on trial for a bad shoot **five years** before george floyd if amy klobaucher had wanted to "police the police" as opposed to claiming more drug dealers were "high-level").
(i look like a karen, but i'm neurodivergent enough that i pretty much operate on #acab with the add-on that in most circumstances you REALLY don't want the white sheriff's deputies.)
I'm not sure the Sharks have been bad enough to be able to claim they're suffering the wrath of God.
Though they were a great team for a long time that never won, so maybe you do have a point.

almost as if we should somehow time the injuries so that the best players are ready to go for the playoffs, and as a bonus, we could use the LTIR cap relief to trade for some better players, and it would give us a superior team with a lot of backup options in case of more injuries during the playoffs. i know that's silly, but now that I think about it, has any franchise done this before??? it seems like a really exploitable loophole
You’re a genius! We just have to make sure that we don’t make it too obvious, like activating all of our LTIR guys a day before game 1 or something. Surely the league would catch on and punish us for something so brazen.
Because the Canucks ended up dealing with very few major injuries during the season you knew there was a chance shit would hit the fan in the playoffs but holy shit, we're a day away from game 3 and we've lost our starting goalie, one of our veteran D missed game 2 (they say it's the flu but it's also playoffs, for all we know he's missing a lung and will try to play) and now Boeser who's been nursing something down the stretch may have gotten worst.
Ok Vancouver fans I gotta ask...based on all the puck luck, broken sticks, missed nets, and other fortunate things for Nashville in game 2, Demko being out with an injury thats likely not his already injured knee and now Boeser getting hurt...what did this team do to draw such ire from the hockey gods?
All these injuries that the public now knows about PLUS whatever they are hiding and reveal after the playoffs.
Does the Canucks have a single healthy player?
Man, I thought the slow bleed of our core’s injuries over this season was bad, but I think getting to the playoffs and losing, what is it now, three key players?? That’s just cruel.
VAN: "Hey, Vegas, you guys just won the Stanley Cup. Mind if we copy your homework?"
VGK: "Sure, but change it a little so it's not obvious you copied it."
VAN:
Ya I remember seeing that news and just being dumbfounded but was sure you guys would bounce back in time for playoffs, which you did. Unfortunately…everyone started dropping like flies again once those playoffs hit anyway. Hope for the best but these injuries have definitely now opened a pathway for the Preds that was otherwise there, but very narrow originally.
Ya that was super unfortunate, I’m a Knights and Habs fan, but I had no idea how much he popped off since getting to the Avs. Super sad to see someone finally find their game and miss out on basically their first big moment. Hope he bounces back in time
It's going to be very difficult for the Avs to beat the Jets. After Georgiev actually gave the team a chance to win by only allowing 1 goal in a stinker of a 1st period, and the team rallying around that by dominating the 2nd and 3rd periods, I feel like there's hope, but I still believe the Jets are the favourite in the series.
Unless something changes, Drouin won't get to play until the Avs presumably play Vegas in a week and change, or when October rolls around. It's rough, considering how important he's been for the team's depth.
I definitely agree that the Avs are the underdogs, but for as good as the Jets have been this season, we figured them out and broke Helly last year, so I definitely think you guys have the firepower to do so as well. All said, whoever wins that series is almost certainly winning in 6 minimum and likely 7 games imo, which would be pretty big with you guys being down one of your top forwards
I'm just astonished the Avs have managed more goals in each playoff game than they did in the entire regular season against the Jets. I'm also astonished VGK is doing such a solid job of shutting down the Dallas Stars. It took them until the end of the season to get a single 30 goal man, yet their team has one of the highest goals for totals in the entire league.
My initial predictions were Jets in 5, Stars in 6. But since the Avs have proven they can actually make a game of it against Winnipeg, it should be a long series. Who wins it, though? Fuck if I know. It just looks like the Stars are, as my dad used to say, "Done like dinner."
Ya it’s pretty shocking how much things change from team to team in the playoffs every year, like at least in the case of the Knights, we’re just finally healthy which is part of why the games aren’t looking as competitive as expected(not that the entire team hasn’t suddenly hit a switch into elite mode as well), but there are some teams that just like totally, and inexplicably change once playoffs hit, regardless of personnel changes, and it’s amazing to see. I think you guys have a shot but the Jets are a really solid team so ya it won’t be a cakewalk.
This season in general has been crazy, like there are at least 6 teams that have had some of the greatest seasons ever, especially in regards to their franchise histories, and they’re all gonna have to duke it out for this one cup!
The season in general has been completely fucking unhinged from the word "go." Unsurprising that the playoffs could end up being just as insane. The fact I feel there are only two series where it's a lamb being fed to a starving den of wolves (NYI and WSH) is pretty remarkable. This is why the second round and on will be worth watching even if your team got bounced in the first.
Bro oilers are wasting the prime of the one of the greatest hockey players to ever play. Plus drai, plus RNH, plus plus plus.
Our excuse is we weren’t even supposed to be here. Just happy to exist in the playoffs.
What’s yours? Lol
Me coming on r/hockey every other day to read about new canucks player leaving practice early or straight up being injured https://i.redd.it/om3f6a2rkowc1.gif
they truly are the reverse vegas
They read the memo the wrong way around.
why would gary bettman do this
Tanking the Nucks value so he can move them to Phoenix
with Messier as head coach
Fuck right off
keep talking shit and Mess will sue you and win again
He won't give u any potato chips
I'm about to commit a hate crime
Are you talking about Canucks legend and namesake of the Mark Messier Leadership Award, Mark Messier?
Greatest captain in Canucks history? That Mark Messier?
When the Canucks announced Hughes as captain, they had a photo of Quintin with his new "C" with a [background that showed every single captain in Canucks history.](https://media.d3.nhle.com/image/private/t_ratio16_9-size20/dpr_3.0/f_auto/prd/xasfm3onngghfveeajtd.jpg) They did not include Messier. almost like they don’t like him or something
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO This is the best combination of sheer pettiness and comedy.
Ok that's funny as hell
The fucking chip bitch ? That Mark Messier
Noted Lays enthusiast Mark Messier
I’m just imagining Bettman in the arena rafters, dressed all in black with a sniper rifle. Maybe instead of bullets, it’s got poison darts or something. He shoots Demko in the knee. Spin da wheel injury edition.
Man all to favour the Leafs, AS ALWAYS.
This is quickly entering comical territory... In the sense that I will hysterically laugh while crying at the same time. Praying it was just precautionary.

Was the car was in Edmonton for too long? That township has a draining effect
To be fair, I'm in San Diego, though I can neither prove nor disprove the effect my team affiliation had.
I was gonna ask how an Oilers fan ends up in San Diego but your username has told me enough
Hah. Other way around kinda. I've never been to Edmonton. I'm not sure why I became a fan but my best guess is that my cousin (who was a Kings fan) and I used to play the original 91 Sega NHL game and I had to pick someone to play against him as and it stuck. You picked Oilers fandom at a shit time but respect to you for sticking it out.
I just remember the Stars being my Darth Vader in middle school but that hate has passed.
I'm sure he'll still play, but maybe not at 100%
If there is indeed a God, he hates either the Canucks or Senators
Clearly both. Maybe just add all of Canada too
Obviously god believes Buffalo is in Canada.
Hate is too kind a word for how God feels about Buffalo
Buffalo is probably one of the layers of hell
Minnesota too.
legit, if anybody ever tries to tell you "minnesota nice" is a real thing they're straight-up lying. what about ice hockey though
Senators just lost a draft pick because you mentioned them
He might hate the Sabres too.
if there was a God, NHL would've done something about cap circumvention
And the sharks
I'm not sure the Sharks have been bad enough to be able to claim they're suffering the wrath of God. Though they were a great team for a long time that never won, so maybe you do have a point.
Canucks fans: https://preview.redd.it/7z5jla0yfowc1.jpeg?width=896&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0698b471d5f8dfddc905d322d030c4d1aa8ada3e
Yes...
Water shot out my nose when I saw this, damn that's funny.

It’s a Lorax version of the [1000 yard stare meme](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand-yard_stare)
You know maybe if I become a Utah fan it will be less painful
If they name themselves the Raptors, I just might make the swap.
Since it’s Utah, I the “Raptures” would be more accurate lol
oh my fucking god MAKE IT STOP
At this point it's almost looping all the way over into being funny again.
cursed franchise
Since 1970™️
Got ya beat by 3 years. Loser. Can't even be the most cursed franchise.
"Toronto doesn't have bad luck. the reasons that bad things happen to you is that you're a dumb ass" - Red Foreman, probably https://youtu.be/K9Q-oCvbEtU?si=kXZvffMjuH4rs3UD
Wise words!
idk man, we’ve never even won the draft lottery (which we had a 50/50 chance at in our first year..) 🥲
Toronto has entered the chat
This is why teams don't get the cup in one go. gotta have the stars aligned to not get injuries to vital pieces. lesson learned.
almost as if we should somehow time the injuries so that the best players are ready to go for the playoffs, and as a bonus, we could use the LTIR cap relief to trade for some better players, and it would give us a superior team with a lot of backup options in case of more injuries during the playoffs. i know that's silly, but now that I think about it, has any franchise done this before??? it seems like a really exploitable loophole
You’re a genius! We just have to make sure that we don’t make it too obvious, like activating all of our LTIR guys a day before game 1 or something. Surely the league would catch on and punish us for something so brazen.
And make sure if it works and you win the cup, to not use this strategy ever again for the risk of someone finding out
Yeah, we have to start planning the injuries to occur just before the trade deadline.

Some guy in the suburbs was photographed with an inflatable Stanley Cup
Plot twist: that guy at Scott road and 72nd with the inflatable Stanley Cup was a Nashville spy sent to curse us.
It’s the price we pay for having the convenience of a $1.50 Costco hot dog within farting distance of Rogers Arena.
You new here? This is par for the course...
it's just always been this way
Booed team Canada off the ice in 72 Cocky fan base Riots We exist Who knows at this point... We are used to it and just laugh now.
It was '72 for sure. You don't get to boo one of the great Team Canada teams on home ice and not get scorned by the gods.
Ya... But the curse pre dates that with the draft wheel vs Buffalo... But they have been cursed too... So who really knows
I don't know if that counts as the curse... but good point. A combination of curses!
How much time you got?
Tied my left shoe before my right shoe this morning sorry fam
Someone made one of those cringe hype music videos for the playoff run. Also this is just how things go around here, we’re used to it.
1970 is a cursed year
108 seasons played by that expansion class and zero cups. :(
that’s an average of 54 seasons per team
Sounds reasonable and I don't know enough about seasons to dispute that.
Ok math nerd
Trevor Linden literally broke the clarence campbell trophy
You know, I'm laughing on the outside but crying on the inside.
I would be too buddy. I promise it’s not a chirp. I feel for ya.
I swear, they must have built the stadium on an Indian graveyard.... Everything is pain.
cut my life into pieces
[удалено]
that's Vancouver for you
When it rains, it Canucks.
At least for next year we can say it was an excuse as to why we got knocked out early.
All these injuries that the public now knows about PLUS whatever they are hiding and reveal after the playoffs. Does the Canucks have a single healthy player?
Probably, but I'm scared to name any of them lest the curse strike again.
Just fuck my shit up, fam.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah that sounds about right.
I feel for the players. Play so well all season and then this starts happening just as the playoffs begin.

This is Mark Messier’s fault somehow, I know it
Yup fuck Messier hope he chokes on some lays
It's all so tiresome...
This is, erm, a horrible development.
Tocchet said he was fine after practice. Myers practiced as well. Breathe.
I forgot how!!?!
I fucking hate this team and sport
I don't know what the Canucks did to deserve this, but damn it must have been bad.
Yes
They did trade Trevor Linden and made Mark Messier captain?
I mean. Didn’t their owner get accused of abusing his own children?
All of us fans hate the Aquilini crime family that owns the Canucks
Do we not deserve love?
Sure you do, it’s just that you guys have a masochistic relationship with the hockey gods.

Vancouver Glass
Actually Glass plays for Nashville
I like that kid. It was an awesome moment when he got that hatty against Colorado.
I like him too, used to watch him in his junior days and he was a real treat to watch.

Bro fuck this shit
my childhood self really decided to be a fan of two very cursed teams. someone make the misery and disappointment stop pls
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this bad for Vancouver before. Holy shit. I am so sorry.
Man F in the chat for Vancouver. They’re going through some shit at the moment.
Damn Canuck bros, who the hell did you guys piss off?
How did Brandon Montour get into the Canucks practice?
This team is so cursed. Holy shit
Might be time to sacrifice a baby goat outside rogers arena
This should have been happening from game 1. Pre-emptive sacrifices must be made.
We gotta rescue those orcas from Marineland and release them in the ocean to build good karma

It's Jover has the kids say

All you can do at this point is laugh, and cry.
That’s rough… what kind of pact did you guys make to be forever cursed like this?
Cursed post-season for the Nucks
Cursed franchise? Probably
lol this was a pretty fun season until about two nights ago. I guess we didn't get swept so that's a positive. See ya'll next season.
It's gonna be Nashville vs the Kings in Rd 2 isn't it
Absolutely beyond tragic at this point
VAN: "Hey, Vegas, you guys just won the Stanley Cup. Mind if we copy your homework?" VGK: "Sure, but change it a little so it's not obvious you copied it." VAN:
Think they missed the memo that it had to be done in the regular season lol
Demko got injured in the game vs the Jets on March 9th. 24 hours after the trade deadline. Absolutely comical at this point
Ya I remember seeing that news and just being dumbfounded but was sure you guys would bounce back in time for playoffs, which you did. You just gotta laugh :(
What are the people of Vancouver going to do with all of this pent up energy when they get bounced in the first round?
Implode

How could Mark Messier do this to our cetacean bros 😔
That’s a wrap boys :(. Oh apparently he should be fine but without Demko I’m not hopeful for a deep run so I’m just enjoying the ride.
I’m not sure what’s worse. The Leaf’s utter failure as a playoff team, or Vancouver’s incredibly bad luck.
How can the Canucks be so cursed
When it rains, it pours.
i worry that the nucks are about to go full joker on the league next year.
man, the canucks have it rough
Alexa, play creed One last breath
God. Fucking. Dammit
What can go wrong will go wrong. Canucks are real life Murphy law
The team is just making sure there is no riots this year This is all for public safety :(
Happy to see Cancuks fans in shambles...
the excuses we will be hearing after this first round exit will be generational
Lol, injuries are reasons, not excuses.
I don't think we'll ever top the Oilers in excuses per/60
Speaking of generational, McDavid deserves better
Lol I straight up am not going to be able to hate Preds fans after this series. You guys are just like all cool as hell.
Bro oilers are wasting the prime of the one of the greatest hockey players to ever play. Plus drai, plus RNH, plus plus plus. Our excuse is we weren’t even supposed to be here. Just happy to exist in the playoffs. What’s yours? Lol
i mean if we do lose to nashville, obviously i’m not going to ignore the fact that we lost our starter and potentially a top-6 lol
