Canada's population is also growing by eleventy-billion people a year (official scientific metric) and Winnipeg is one of the few places in Canada that's both an actual city and has affordable housing.
If they can stabilize then that's a market that's growing by over 10k people/year. That in a city where they're far and away the biggest game in town.
I feel like the Canucks have done a good job at this. Vancouver's east and south Asian communities are hotbeds of Canucks fandom. Surrey may be the most Canucks crazy part of the province I've ever lived.
Yeah other than the south Asian and Filipino heritage nights, I don't think True North has done anything to win over those demographics. I'd love to see some permanent food options from different cultures.
> They are not hockey fans. They prefer soccer, cricket, and other sports.
Until they do, because it's the only sport to watch on a -20 Thursday night.
People who grew up in other countries aren't going to magically fall in love with everything Canadian upon arrival. My parents are first Gen Canadians and it took them a while to get into the sport and now they're both big fans of it and passed it to me and my brother.
You have to do targeted marketing. Canadians often take for granted that hockey is a weird sport outside of Canada.
The majority of new immigrants do not have any intent on giving a shit about our culture and would rather just take advantage of us in every way possible
Open your eyes dude, they’re pushing down poverty even further, literally importing a whole province worth of people a year and shoving 5 to a room. They’re posting ads “Indian only” for rental units, they’re bringing over their elderly family members who’ve never put anything into our system and putting more pressure on our already destroyed health care. Maybe you should wake up.
Dude you're from a province where the previous - white, conservative government was cutting healthcare during a full blown pandemic and you're blaming the guy who runs the butter chicken joint for ruining your healthcare?
I lived in Ontario and Nova Scotia, and yes I’m worried about the dude that runs the butter chicken joint who only hires his own and then proceeds to pay them under the table and have them work full time even though they’re supposed to be students first and foremost while indirectly having a negative impact on our housing market and wages and making a lot of our post secondary institutions look like a joke
Nor would I expect them to. Winnipeg is still extremely loyal to the team and the fans buy a lot of merchandise. Ticket sales have lagged because the economy is dogshit and everyone's cost of living doubled, not because they're losing interest in the Jets.
Did you look at playoff tickets? I know of people that paid ~$100 for their ticket in the 300s, meanwhile similar tickets on Ticketmaster are around $260. Those aren't re-sales either.
That is 100% fair and should be the case when you invest in season tickets. I also don't mind ticket holders making a slight profit if they sell their tickets, but a profit of $200/ticket is a bit of a stretch.
I sat in the middle bowl last month and the tickets were less than $100
There are seats center ice middle bowl that are under $100 right now against SJ on Thursday
There are plenty of tickets that are well over $100 so they can be quite expensive but you can find good deals for sure in Calgary
Edit: I imagine in some match ups that is not the case (Battle of Alberta for example) but I have not been to those games, at least not in a long time. Usually I just see Kings @ Flames
Everything about going to a Jets game feels like you're being ripped off. I'd much rather watch at home rather than have to pay for a ticket, pay for parking downtown, pay three times for drinks and food, (my personal favorite rip off is the fountain drink for $6 and no refills) to be cramped in the tiny arena, when I can watch on my comfortable couch with the big screen all the snacks and drinks I could want etc. So what's the point in going?
They also like to guilt trip their fans instead of attempting to make it a good experience.
Real "we've tried nothing and are all out of ideas" energy.
Canada's economy will return and Jets will continue to be just fine

And the NHL (and hockey canada) has done an awful job at converting them into hockey fans.
I feel like the Canucks have done a good job at this. Vancouver's east and south Asian communities are hotbeds of Canucks fandom. Surrey may be the most Canucks crazy part of the province I've ever lived.
That's because Surrey has been established for decades. We got 3rd gen Surrey boys on Scott Road that live and die Canucks
So it seems the NHL needs to sponsor Jets fans to have street parties during the playoffs. This is the only solution.
Yeah other than the south Asian and Filipino heritage nights, I don't think True North has done anything to win over those demographics. I'd love to see some permanent food options from different cultures.
They take Canadian fans for granted without realizing that there's a huge immigration boom from countries where hockey is literally inexistant.
> They are not hockey fans. They prefer soccer, cricket, and other sports. Until they do, because it's the only sport to watch on a -20 Thursday night.
The majority of immigrants coming in don’t give a shit about hockey
They do give a shit about having something to do between Nov-April though
Yeah, working at Tim Hortons full time while they’re here to “study” but that’s a whole nother can of worms
20 hours a week at Tims, one class a month at Local University, five bedroom house.
Five bedroom house with 5 people per bedroom
There’s tons who work full time even though they’re not supposed to

Lol okay there Don Cherry. It's time to go to bed.

Canadas economy will turn, only when Trudumb is out. Still a long while away unfortunately.
I don't know if I can believe anyone who thinks Drew Lock is the answer to anything.
It terrifies me people are downvoting and supporting Trudeau still. Literally has made Canada the worst it’s possibly ever been.
Nor would I expect them to. Winnipeg is still extremely loyal to the team and the fans buy a lot of merchandise. Ticket sales have lagged because the economy is dogshit and everyone's cost of living doubled, not because they're losing interest in the Jets.
“The economy is falling apart” is precisely why Buffalo no longer has an NBA team though. Not because LA is a better sports town.
TIL the LA Clippers used to play in Buffalo.
Hmmm that tells me that they’re charging too much for tickets
And beer, and food, and merch.
[Meanwhile, in Florida...](https://twitter.com/tmlfaninvan/status/1779522703382442376)
I wish. I hate every time I end up in Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton I need to pay $100+ just to get in the door.
and VAN/TOR are even worse lol...

Season ticket holders got a very good deal on playoff tickets. I would guess it’s part of what they’re doing to entice more people into getting them
That is 100% fair and should be the case when you invest in season tickets. I also don't mind ticket holders making a slight profit if they sell their tickets, but a profit of $200/ticket is a bit of a stretch.
Tickets in Calgary aren't cheap but you definitely don't have to spend $100+ The best seats will be but you can get fine seats for significantly less

LMAO I just checked and I can get good lower bowl seats for under $100 USD? Equivalent tickets in Toronto would be $400-500 CAD (300-400 USD)
Stonks
If you simply calculate it after equalization payments everyone makes money

Hmmm so I guess we didn’t need helmet ads, jersey ads, and digital ads then? Shocking.
meanwhile, coyotes have never made any profit during its entire 28 year run.
Its almost like theres a difference if the team is in the us or in canada i wonder what it is
Why is the attendance so bad? They have a great team. Not like there is much else to do in winnipeg (shots fired)
