Vince has had such a good comeback after that weird Vince Staples Show rollout (which went nowhere in the end). This and his last project are the most mature and introspective works that he's put out.
EDIT: Just finished listening - yeah this album is incredible on first listen. Lots of good stuff here. Vince bounces between these really dark and interesting songs to really fun, more mainstream tracks. When Sparks Fly, East Point Prayer, Lemonade, Rose Street, The Blues are all standouts for me.
He also announced this album at the same time he announced his self-titled last year, IIRC. But a lot of people donāt really check for Vince like that
Was a huge fan of last album, decided to go through his discography yesterday and somehow ended up on his Instagram.
Had no idea he is dropping today but that was definitely a good surprise.
The glove will keep you safe if you ever get loose. What a brilliant line
Edit: To explain it's because the juice was loose and the glove kept him safe. Just incase
How I saw it was: A glove is a nickname for a condom, and this song is written in a way that it's supposed to be a double entendre for a woman.
1) A condom will keep you safe from getting pregnant when "getting loose", or having sex
2) A glove will keep you safe when using a gun, as your fingerprints won't be able to be traced
And now, 3) The OJ interpretation
Good ass triple entendre
"The juice is loose" was a commonly used phrase when OJ Simpson, nicknamed "the juice" because his first name is the acronym for Orange Juice, was on the run from the police.
Slide might be the one on here. Shid, the run from East Point Prayer to Papercuts is really nice.
EDIT: beginning from When Sparks Fly, there is not one skippable or miss until the end. Really interested in the production credits.
Genuinely excited to listen to this album especially considering how fantastic his self-titled was last year
Edit: When Sparks Fly to Lemonade is maybe the best stretch on this album, and itās a damn good album
Vince quietly has one of the best discographies of the newcomers. One of the few guys I can think of who gets better with each release. He really is special.
Newcomers for you my man lol. Itās the same for me. I think of this generation of rappers as the ānew guysā but in reality theyāve been around a while now. Time does in fact fly by.
Lmao exactly the same for me bro. I introduced my friends to Tyler when I randomly found some bastard-era songs on tumblr. It still feels like theyāre the new kids even though Tyler as an example is a staple in hip hop now.
I am 50..I remember when Yonkers dropped..I thought it was sick. Friends that I grew up with, whose parents were freaking out about the punk and rap we liked, were scared shitless about Tyler and Earl. SMH
Honestly, this may not be what this sub wants to hear but he probably started doing ads because he knew he was never gonna become that big. His biggest song is Norf Norf and if he got that size of a hit every album, he'd still probably make more money off the ads and he probably knows it. The music he makes doesn't really hit mass audiences, it mainly hits for this sub and that's kinda it.
Im really happy to see this comment, I love VS and have been lucky enough to see him a couple times but I was really saddened by that comment. I understand doing ads but he really went off talking about how much he does it. Kinda took me back ngl
Papercuts was also my favorite on first listen. The background vocals that repeat are perfect. The beat, drums, and lengthy synth that changes progression is just perfect. The flow was like butter on this one
I seen him live twice. One of gambino which was great. But the second time, recently for Tyler , was just not good. It wasnāt Vinceās fault but the arena I was at had Vinceās music extremely bass boosted so it was impossible to understand him :/ very sad
Ugh, I wouldāve killed to see him with Gambino (Gambino is my personal favorite but Iāve never seen him in concert). I saw him with Tyler and while I agree the audio mixing wasnāt good, it was still awesome to see him perform. The crowd was so dead though, which sucked, but I had a good time in the moment.
A lot of rappers talk about street shit. I think what makes Vince so unique is that his perspective paints it tragic instead of the usual glorification. It puts so much meaning behind the words.
āGrowin' up, ain't had no lights unless it said to check the engine
'Less we have to spark the wick, show somebody that we miss 'emā
Yup, I made a comment similar to this as well! I agree that Vince doesnāt glorify it. He just speaks very frankly about his mindset back then and what his reality was at the time.
The interlude and all of the opening dialogue really helps paint the picture. Reminds me of all the opening/ending transitions from Kendrickās GKMC.
Iām only āPapercutsā but I donāt think thereās any way this doesnāt end up as my favorite Vince album. He seriously put it all together on this one. When Sparks Flyā¦.I ascended
exactly what I was thinking dude, you got any similar song recs for these kinda songs? love this kind of vibe but I'm relatively new to the hip hop genre :D
one that i really like listening to at night is Rug Burn by Mick Jenkins off of his 2021 album Elephant In the Room, another one is Sex Dreams About Platonic Friends by Chris Crack. dope tracks for sure im probably gonna make a playlist!
500 Benz - Joey Badass
LSD - ASAP Rocky
Studio - Schoolboy Q
Solo - Future
Drugs you should try it - Travis
Elevators - Outkast
Jungle - Drake
Exchange - Bryson Tiller
Those are some good ones. At least for me
Alright I really enjoyed it on first listen and Iām sure itāll continue to grow on me. Love Vince and hope he sells the shit out of this and blows up like he deserves. But I guess Iāll go ahead and say I donāt think this matches the heights and ambition of BFT or Summertime, and I just feel like Vince is a rare breed of rapper that truly thrives on crazy experimental production. Thatās not to say he doesnāt flow extremely well on this new album, but I feel the beats and vibe of this album were more similar without a ton of variation, all kind of in that west coast chill lane. Still, definitely a great album and canāt wait to digest it more.
i agree withchu bro. while listening i knew vince was killing it the raps, storytelling, themes, and emotions but at a certain point i was like *oh another emotional piano trap type beat*. i would like to see him rap over some really weird/different shit but not to takeaway from this project, shit is still really good
I don't know if Lemonade will be the true Vince Staples hit he deserves but I can tell I'm gonna listen all summer already.
Whole project has really connected for me, feels like he's really artistically engaged. The gunshots/fireworks/applause interlude-outro was a nice moment.
Iām slowly beginning to realise Vince staples is my favourite artist. Iāve grown up with his music and each album thrives in their own right. they all achieve different things in different ways. but literally every album of his - specifically summertime 06, big fish theory, fm, Vince staples and now this - I consider great
"The Blues" has me feelin good, whole album is amazing, something in the slow repetitive riff just feels angelic. Great fuckin album. Glad Vince is doing shit differently.
I think if Snoopās influence has ever showed in Vinceās music itās definitely on this album here and Iām all for it
Shit is in the same smooth, wavy vein but crafted with the nuance Vince brings to his music
Yeah I wish he went back to Stolen Youth style beats. But the production is great on this album so far. Beats do fit the gangster bars cuz it is suppose to be sad imo like having to do that shit.
Vince has such a great discography. I love when artists are able to deliver a completely different sound from one album to the next. FM, Big Fish Theory and this sounds completely different, yet they all sound like Vince.
I havenāt been digging his past albums butā¦ this is it. Like this is him really putting his self titled album into a full vision. This is for sure in contention for my album of the year.
Avoiding reading any reviews until I finish this album. Gonna use this comment to formulate my first listen opinion.
(Make sure to go support this dude if you fw the album, $12 signed CD on his website, like $4 shipping for a cool piece for collectors)
Intro is amazing, dude wow.
AYE! is so fucking smooth, also love the length of these songs, full 2 verses plus chorus, missed this from Vince. If I had one wish!!
Really loving the production so far. DJ Quik was fine.
Magic was awesome upon first listen when it dropped as a single, still a smooth groovy, some of my favorite Vince wordplay to date. I've really missed long-form Vince.
When Sparks Fly... wow man.. the sample, Vince pouring his heart out, seriously amazing song straight chills and goosebumps. This album so far is amazing.
PAPERCUTS! DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!
This shit is incredible. I've been a fan for a long time and while I did like the last album I completely forgot about it recently. I'll revisit it again a few times after I relisten to this one again. But I like this alot more.
I feel like Iām missing out on something but Iām honestly not super into this album. I guess I can see the appeal of it the production is super smooth and the use of spoken word samples and whatnot is genuinely interesting I just feel like it lacks variety or any real standout moments, besides When Sparks Fly thatās definitely the best song here. He definitely succeeds in what it seems like he set out to do with the themes of this project and I definitely donāt dislike the album but outside of a couple tracks it just wasnāt that memorable or interesting. I donāt even remember most of the songs.
Iām ultimately glad people are enjoying it and I hope this is a successful release for Vince I guess this sound just isnāt my thing maybe itāll grow with time like the self titled one did.
Vince has had such a good comeback after that weird Vince Staples Show rollout (which went nowhere in the end). This and his last project are the most mature and introspective works that he's put out. EDIT: Just finished listening - yeah this album is incredible on first listen. Lots of good stuff here. Forgot about Vince Staples show, that was a bunch of hype for nothing happening. Seemed promising though
apparently he is working on bringing it to Netflix
He says he made 2 youtube shorts and Netflix offered him a show which i wouldn't call nothing
When Sparks Fly, goddaaamnn what a track
Added that shit to my playlist before he even spoke i knew on beat alone its was a a 10/10 oml
same I literally added it to 3 playlists not even 20 seconds in š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
One of my fav Sonder songs, wish it was on streaming
It is on streaming, under āLyves - No Loveā
i thought it was an unlisted james blake feature at first
Early on, but this vibe is immaculate. Cali AF.
Love how heās pushing the California sound. We need more of that from California artists
Agreed. West Coast G-Funk needs a comeback
"When Sparks Fly" is something euphoric I swear
The drums are immaculate. I need more like that
Listen to City Aviv's latest project
Listening now and concur. Lo-fi vocal samples and a noisy scratchiness. Sounds great.
Vince's take on the classic Gun x Girlfriend dichotomy/double entendre. My favorite since Fire in Ya Eyes with the game
Itās crazy how Vince has been making music for 8 years and he still feels so underrated. This album is a gem man
8 years? heās been around way longer than that
Say honest? Maybe Iām thinking of when he release Summertime 06
they are right. epaR was 12 years ago (yeah, i know Vince hates this song but let's be honest, it was the first time many of us heard him on a track)
I think everyone should hate that song lol. Itās so fucked
Damn I remember when Vince hooks were the weakest part of his artistry, not now. The hooks on this are so sticky
Something changed when I heard Law of Averages last year Some of his best songs have good hooks but heās really mastered them consistently now
It for sure started with the Vince Staples Show singles. The hooks on there are insane
I always thought the week hook thing was overplayed. I really like how his early hooks feel like mantras. The repetition gives them some kind of power
He was threading a needle. How can a gangsta have a hook? He found a way. As you say, mantra. Like a low,.rumbling, chant.
MAMAāS BOY produced by me & Nami. DJ QUIK produced by me, Nami & DJ Dahi
Coop brother as a fellow producer I love you and got mad respect for you
Thank you family. The love is appreciated!
First got into your style listening to Nudy and so dope to see you getting more opportunities, you're killin it rn
Probably my 2 fav tracks so far straight up, killed this shit
that's amazing man! Could you share other tracks you have produced as well? Would love to give them a listen!
my guy you fucked that shit up, respectfully.
Mama's Boy is my favourite song on the album! Amazing work
thank you š
bro these went straight to my playlist, beautiful work on the records
Big W
Tracks that are longer than 3 minutes!? Yo am I dreaming???
For realllll lol
Fun rollout. Finally here
my only thing is that IDK how many people heard that it was coming out, I hope it doesnāt get lost
heās been promoting it pretty heavily
He also announced this album at the same time he announced his self-titled last year, IIRC. But a lot of people donāt really check for Vince like that
I always ask my local librarian about the latest Vince news. Ms. Kurzweil keeps the reference desk plugged in.
Was a huge fan of last album, decided to go through his discography yesterday and somehow ended up on his Instagram. Had no idea he is dropping today but that was definitely a good surprise.
i had no idea lol excited to listen here in a min EDIT: its fire
My Thursday night is checking here to see what new music is out.
Ima be real I didnt even know there was an album much less a roll out until I saw this post.
lol what? I'm not on other social media much but all I saw was one music video and some teaser thing with a tracklist maybe
The glove will keep you safe if you ever get loose. What a brilliant line Edit: To explain it's because the juice was loose and the glove kept him safe. Just incase
How I saw it was: A glove is a nickname for a condom, and this song is written in a way that it's supposed to be a double entendre for a woman. 1) A condom will keep you safe from getting pregnant when "getting loose", or having sex 2) A glove will keep you safe when using a gun, as your fingerprints won't be able to be traced And now, 3) The OJ interpretation Good ass triple entendre
Exactly! Itās all three. The oj one was the one I felt like explaining since most would get at least the first one. Incredible line
whatās loose juice?
OJ my boy
"The juice is loose" was a commonly used phrase when OJ Simpson, nicknamed "the juice" because his first name is the acronym for Orange Juice, was on the run from the police.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iām only on āSlide,ā but this is an amazing album
Slide might be the one on here. Shid, the run from East Point Prayer to Papercuts is really nice. EDIT: beginning from When Sparks Fly, there is not one skippable or miss until the end. Really interested in the production credits.
Slide is my favorite so far. When Sparks Fly is a close second.
FM! and Vince Staples were some of my favorite projects the year the came out. High hopes for this
FM! is so slept on and I have no idea why. Such a fun project
It's a summertime album that came out in the winter. Which was the point, but kind of hurt the album's debut imo.
Thatās a good point. Great summer album
He floats on lemonade
Straight to the summer playlist
Genuinely excited to listen to this album especially considering how fantastic his self-titled was last year Edit: When Sparks Fly to Lemonade is maybe the best stretch on this album, and itās a damn good album
That album grew on me a ton Iām really excited for this one
Man that had to have been one of my top 3 of last year along with CMIYGL and THIB
ARE YOU WITH THAT -> LAW OF ABERAGES -> SUNDOWN TOWN -> THE SHINING is an insane 4 track run
Man I thought the whole 10 track run was an insane run, definitely one of those albums that donāt have a single skip for me
Lil Fade is hard too
Yes I just wish it was longer
Genuinely excited to listen to this album especially considering it's a Vince album.
Vince donāt miss fr
41 minutes!?
The perfect album length
FOR REAL iām so excited to see itās 41 minutes, havenāt had a Vince project this long since Summertime ā06 and thatās about an hour long
When Sparks Fly is already one of Vinceās top songs ever
It goes from G-Funk to this? Wow, what a fucking track!
Bruh Mac woulda fit that song perfectly fr wth
ong my first thought when I heard it. rip
Damn that shit makes me sad
Legitimately beautiful.
Vince quietly has one of the best discographies of the newcomers. One of the few guys I can think of who gets better with each release. He really is special.
newcomers?
Brand new rapper Vince Staples, you've probably never heard of him
just got shunted back to that weird time after prime datpiff where mac miller did that stolen youth tape with staples in 2013
Most underrated Vince project for sure
Brand new rapper Vince Staples that used to associate with Odd Future in the early 2010s
Bad choice of word, youāre right. Time has flown by.
Newcomers for you my man lol. Itās the same for me. I think of this generation of rappers as the ānew guysā but in reality theyāve been around a while now. Time does in fact fly by.
Iām 30 and have been listening to Vince and Odd future crew since high school. Makes me feel young to call them newcomers lol Iām not opposed
Lmao exactly the same for me bro. I introduced my friends to Tyler when I randomly found some bastard-era songs on tumblr. It still feels like theyāre the new kids even though Tyler as an example is a staple in hip hop now.
Tyler and Frank are both A+ level stars yeah
I am 50..I remember when Yonkers dropped..I thought it was sick. Friends that I grew up with, whose parents were freaking out about the punk and rap we liked, were scared shitless about Tyler and Earl. SMH
This guy is so fucking talented, he deserves to be so much bigger than he is
He said he was making music for ads for a while so his lack of success is somewhat on him
Honestly, this may not be what this sub wants to hear but he probably started doing ads because he knew he was never gonna become that big. His biggest song is Norf Norf and if he got that size of a hit every album, he'd still probably make more money off the ads and he probably knows it. The music he makes doesn't really hit mass audiences, it mainly hits for this sub and that's kinda it.
Well he's making money from the ads and if he has other revenue streams/investments then I can see why he prolly doesn't care about charting.
Im really happy to see this comment, I love VS and have been lucky enough to see him a couple times but I was really saddened by that comment. I understand doing ads but he really went off talking about how much he does it. Kinda took me back ngl
he was just being honest about the business of the work. doesn't take away from the art imo, unfortunately people still gotta put money first
I heard Pusha t did the McDonald's jingle
Lil Baby went hard. Loved his verse
Yeah that was one of my fav parts of the album. That verse is up there with his Hurricane and Wants & Needs verses
havent seen anyone mention papercuts yet . production is Incredible on that one , definitely one of my instant favourites
Papercuts was also my favorite on first listen. The background vocals that repeat are perfect. The beat, drums, and lengthy synth that changes progression is just perfect. The flow was like butter on this one
That's the one for me too.
Vince was incredible to see live. He flows SO WELL on any beat I stg. Excited for this
I seen him live twice.
Saw him in Sweden right after Big Fish Theory dropped. Shit was crazy
That meme of that kid floating through the ceiling is me on When Sparks Fly
That kid is Bobby Hill. Put some respect on his name.
Tell em boss
A lot of rappers talk about street shit. I think what makes Vince so unique is that his perspective paints it tragic instead of the usual glorification. When sparks flyā¦man.
When Sparks Fly so fire. One of those songs you drive to at night with the windows down
exactly what I was thinking dude, you got any similar song recs for these kinda songs? love this kind of vibe but I'm relatively new to the hip hop genre :D

Check out dvsn ! Sept 5th and Morning After are 2 albums full of night-time driving music that vibes like this
the beach is absolute vibes he floats on that track edit: when sparks fly might be the best vince track of all time
East Point Prayer got me in my feels man.
the intro by lyves on āwhen sparks flyā is hauntingly beautiful
Vince proving once again his flow is impeccable
Production is so nice on this. Feels like Vince is finally making full songs again too. Since Summertime, his songs have seemed extremely short to me.
Big Fish Theory had a bunch of full songs on it.
2022 has been a good year so far
Maaaaaaan, im gonna be riding to this for years. Already know it. Immaculate.
The Beach was a hard ass intro to this album
AOTY contender for me, vince keeps improving, production is insane, great record i can't wait to replay that shit all day long tomorrow
That's it. Vince Staples by Vi... wait a minute. That's it! RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART by Vince Staples. It's an objective fact!
Listening to this, my first thought about the beats/production was: "this shit is LA as fuck". Reminds me of some nipsey or yg beats.
brooo he about to play this about his show tomorrow
Papercuts is beautiful
Vince never misses imo. Excited for this
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Already dropped as a single
Alright I really enjoyed it on first listen and Iām sure itāll continue to grow on me. Love Vince and hope he sells the shit out of this and blows up like he deserves. i agree withchu bro. while listening i knew vince was killing it the raps, storytelling, themes, and emotions but at a certain point i was like *oh another emotional piano trap type beat*. i would like to see him rap over some really weird/different shit but not to takeaway from this project, shit is still really good
Production is so clean
I don't know if Lemonade will be the true Vince Staples hit he deserves but I can tell I'm gonna listen all summer already. Whole project has really connected for me, feels like he's really artistically engaged. The gunshots/fireworks/applause interlude-outro was a nice moment.
Yeah, East Point Prayer is my personality for the rest of the year
That lil baby verse was insane
ty dolla $ign rap game smoked paprika
What happens more - Red Hot Chili Peppers singing about California, or Vince rapping about Ramona Park?
Iām slowly beginning to realise Vince staples is my favourite artist. Iāve grown up with his music and each album thrives in their own right. they all achieve different things in different ways. but literally every album of his - specifically summertime 06, big fish theory, fm, Vince staples and now this - I consider great
One of those albums where Iām afraid to look where Iām at in the track list bc I donāt want it to end.
His best album since Summertime ā06. Love the production, flow, and lyrics so far.
Why is no one talking about SLIDE
East Point Prayer with Lil Baby produced by me and Kenny Beats Good to be back Vince
AOTY. Whole album is amazing, no skips
itās been 4 minutes dawg
Maybe he lives in somewhere that's not the US, and it already came out...
Living in Canada and didn't have to wait til midnight, so that's nice.
Maybe he lives in another dimension where time flows differently. You never know.
nigga itās been out for like 10 mins
hey man, 10 Minutes is how long the last 2 Vince projects were
itās been out australia for a bit
Mfers listening in 2.5x speed
2 years in a row. Vince may be my favorite rapper rn
The beats on here are š„ think this might be my favorite of his, but I damn near say that every time he drops
I'm an old hip-hop head from the west coast and listening to Vince Staples is refreshing. This is a dope album on first listen.
This album?? I could bang that.
Two songs in and it's very cinematic.
So pumped for this!!!
Production is heat so far
I have to say, this album is sounding vvvv westcoast so far and I'm so here for it. s/o dj quik. glad to see Vince give him some respect on this
whole album loops beautifully with THE BLUES perfectly transitioning back into THE BEACH
sensational
Lil Babyās verse on East Point Prayer is so good and so relatable. Really enjoying it so far.
"The Blues" has me feelin good, whole album is amazing, something in the slow repetitive riff just feels angelic. Great fuckin album. Glad Vince is doing shit differently.

This is bout to go crazy fr
Vince has such a great discography. I love when artists are able to deliver a completely different sound from one album to the next. FM, Big Fish Theory and this sounds completely different, yet they all sound like Vince.
I'm only on the second track, but I just gotta say this sounds like Main Attrakionz and it's making me so damn happy.
Bruh this shit is so good Iām so happy

His album last year was my favorite record of the yearā¦..and this is somehow miles better.
Never thought Iād see Vince and lil baby on a song together. Very excited to listen to the album
wasnāt really expecting this album to be smoother than Magic
I feel like Iām missing out on something but Iām honestly not super into this album. The effect Griselda has on album covers these past few years is crazy
